    • @kiajadeurbangardener

She said this “Fruit flies are terrible! the nectarines have become chook food. I tried netting last year but the tree didn’t like that.
The fruit flies are fine with citrus but not good with nectarines and peaches.
They leave my plums alone.” 🤷🏼‍♀️

Jaboticaba trees are one of my favourites! They are just beautiful small trees, at about 3M, and I love their bark and small leaves. The black shiny fruit, which tastes like woody grapes grow in their hundreds, all over the trunk and branches, close together, in clumps, and taste divine….. I can’t stop eating them when I start. I also love picking the fruit off the branches. I read somewhere that trees that produce fruit on their trunks and branches are very ancient trees! I don’t know if this applies to Jaboticabas.
That mango tree needs to be moved! - They’re beautiful massive trees. This one is growing between an orange tree and another fruit tree, so there just isn’t any room for it where it is, even at the size it is now. The younger it is when it’s moved, the better. There’s nothing like home grown mangos!
I also live in SEQ, and it’s been my dream to live like this, though 1 acre would be enough for me. - I’m older than your mother. And without the snakes! lol. Thankyou for this guided tour. You packed a lot into it. Loved hearing your Mum off camera. This is obviously been a labour of love for her, and it shows. Just stunning!

@@kiajadeurbangardener - You’re more than welcome. My parents had one in their yard and unfortunately we had to sell the house. I miss the house, and that tree. Your Mum is very lucky to have a jaboticaba.
I don’t know how well mango trees transplant, but it would be good to give it a chance. I think eventually it would kill the fruit trees either side, as it gets bigger, by starvation, because it’s such a majestic tree. It depends what plants you prefer in that area.

Your mother's garden looks really beautiful. It also seems that she enjoys watering with a hose, but it takes a lot of time and the amounts of water are not equal. Have you considered making an automatic irrigation system for the vegetable garden and plants that need frequent watering? And in general for all the plants according to the needs of each group? This seems to me to be a very good investment for the future. I would appreciate a response from you. 🙏 Like your mother, I also live in a very hot area and we grow many plants imported from Australia. All our gardens, including public gardens, are watered by an automatic system adapted to the needs of the various plants.

@@kiajadeurbangardener A few things. Call 911, keep at heart level, restrict movement. There used to be snake bite kits with a little device to suck the venom out they used to sell but I haven’t seen those in years so I assume they’ve found that to be unhelpful. (Just looking it up…) yes, apparently it is actually worse to do that. I live in rural Oklahoma, plenty of pit vipers here but not much in the way of education.

@@kiajadeurbangardener I’m going to have to look up the wrapping technique. I did learn that hospital policy for snake bites has changed a lot since I was a kid when last year someone on Facebook complained about our local hospital not giving them anti venom. Apparently best practice now is not to give anti-venom for all Cotton Mouth bites (our most common viper) unless symptoms are severe. They keep track of the swelling and other symptoms to gauge if it’s needed.

She gets goannas but I’ve never heard her mention a quoll! To be honest I have never heard of a quoll until just googling them then - they’re so cute!

    Sorry that's some bad misinformation
Snakes are not aggressive nor are they violent
Saying things like this will encourage people to kill or wound them creating more bites and misinformation
I am a professional snake catcher and breeder.
    Great video though love it

Thanks for watching. Just to preface, the snake did bite my mum, so they can attack. At no point did I say you should harm or hurt snakes, if anything I mentioned, keep your property clear and keep an eye out. Appreciate you watching the video!
