I watched Jocko’s podcast with Jonny Kim who graduated from the sniper school and he said that you rarely ever see a clear target with cross hair on them. You’re always switching the focals on the scope and there’s so much going on plus the element to take into consideration that you rarely shoot “at” the target. I know nothing about guns so hearing this was incredible. God bless our troops
I led a small team of guys in Afghanistan for two years. We had two snipers. All of us were great shots with multiple weapons, but I was so impressed with a guy we called Smiley. That kid (20 years old) could hit targets most of us couldn't see. I lost touch with him when he rotated to another unit after our unit was shut down. I always wondered what happened to him?
Very interesting story! Thank you for sharing it here! It would be great to know more about your comrade Smiley... I sincerely hope he is still among us and doing great! Thank you all for your service.
Thank you for your service, brave warrior! I am always humbled when I see NCOs posting stories of their bravery and leadership! Also, good on Smiley! Bulletproof helmets don't really protect against the bullet impact causing massive physical shifts with the helmet material against your skull. If the bullet doesn't penetrate the helmet, it's sure as hell going to dent it and push it against your skull. Think about smashing your head against a concrete ground.
to put this into perspective for you, armor plating weighs a lot couple that with 210 rounds minimum of 5.56(usually a lot more), a helmet, vest, camel pack full of water, 2 fragmentation grenades minimum, 2 smoke grenades minimum(usually 4), rifle, medical gear, and whatever additional gear your MOS mandates and your carrying at least 80lbs on your torso alone. most soldiers/marines wont wear all their armor plates. Then you realize that a 7.62x39mm (akm round) can punch through a cinderblock and that insurgent sniper is using a 7.62x54mmR which is more powerful that a .308/7.62x51mm NATO (what Chris Kyle used) and you can understand that shit isn't very bulletproof, even Humvee windows at the time (early 2000's) weren't "bulletproof" or really armored at all for that matter. and a round deflected off on a helmet, a lot of things can cause this mostly the angle and range. also the vast majority of shots taken that killed people we at gaps in the armor, 1 guy got one to the neck/lower throat area, another got one to the side of the torso where there aren't plates and the driver took one to the face.
As a veteran the most tragic part of the Chris Kyle story is that he was praised for how many of the "bad guys" he gunned down but he was murdered by someone in his own country
In the movie they show us the shots fired and the kills that happen because of them, but what they don't talk about is just how far away from their targets the shooters are, U.S. military snipers usually work between 600 meters and 1200 meters away from their targets which means you'd NEVER see them.
I humble myself and greet all the military forces around the world for the great work you have been doing. May God give you strength and good health so that you can continue to maintain peace in your nation.

And the helmet did what it was meant to do. You'll find that round objects (like a helmet) typically deflect things if not hit straight on and perpendicular to it.
its clear the bullet when to the side of the helmet. kevlar can absorb the impact of bullets but it is also built and designed in a way that if given enough angle, the bullet will 'slide' off the armor
Bro, you have Arabic writing as your profile picture, which probably means you're from the Middle East, and your saying we murder a lot? You really are stupid.

Amen to that. good men die so quickly that when the ones who are lucky enough to make it back are called monsters for what they did and they are labeled as just another man who had fallen. Those people are wrong. They are not ordinary people. They are heroes. They are the reason I can sleep soundly at night. They are why I am free. I owe my life to all of them.
@David Chen In "The" military? Not by a long shot, maybe in american special ops units and some canadians I believe, but not "the military" in general.
@@TehF0cus it is definitely common because several shops sell them for cheap. I was in a standard infantry unit and most high rankers had something like this, my CO specifically had the exact logo on his plate carrier. It is definitely common.
Ok,I want you to try to see the movie through other people's eyes- imagine the pregnant woman he shot was hurt because American soldiers killed both her father and husband. Now imagine that the Iraqi sniper feels that he has no reason for living anymore, because American soldiers murdered his wife and only son.
@@osamaalafghanee8868This movie is set after Saddam's Death and as you can see they are fighting insurgent's, not Hussein's Republican Army. This is not about oil, it's about keeping peace and stability in a hostile environment.
@@doomguy349 How can you invade a country, and call the people living there insurgents? Those people are: fathers whose child or children were killed by US troops, or children whose parent, parents were killed by US troops. If some IDIOTS show up in the town that you live in one day, and then murder your only son, wouldn't you want revenge?
I love reading all the anti US comments XD actually makes me laugh... it's your opinion not here to argue, you have the right to your own opinion, just think all your pointless name calling and hypocracy is funny. neither side is morally correct but you can't call a soldier a murderer unless you've been in the same situations as they have defending comrades doesn't make you a bad person, judging someone for it does however. I could make the same argument for the insurgents yet i won't cause I see people standing for their freedoms as honorable. (not condoning terrorism, if your gonna fight don't target civilians).
Actually Chris Kyle did, very proudly, proclaim himself to be a murderer, of Americans. He gloats about killing civilians after hurricane Katrina. Never actually happened, of course, dude was a liar, but he enjoyed the idea of killing unarmed American civilians and made that very public.
Cause they made no non-American sniper movies. In Finnland there was a sniper singlehandly holding back whole divions of the Soviet Union in WW 2. He could sit stil for hours and he was couvering in snow (and eating the snow to lower his breath temperature). He killed hundreds, possibly thousands of Russians. In the end they even bombarded mountains with heavy artillery cause the soldiers where afraid of him hiding in the mountains. This are people like this we should watch a movie over.
Honestly, I think the Syrian Sniper is much more dangerous than Chris Kyle. Chris Kyle has really advanced gear and equipment and additionally a Spotter as well.. he can make sure that all his shots are on target, meanwhile the Syrian Sniper has nothing but his rifle and a worse scope.. he cant calculate anything but roughly the distance, and he is able to hit that precisely.
@@Drnken229 The enemy Sniper is actually JUBA from Iraq. He killed 37 american troops and pinned most of them using Dragunov. Watch the movie The Wall you'll know better and he was never killed.
I remember when the movie came out, I was a college student and part of the senate team at the time. The movie was among the best I have ever watched and I had a lot of good movies come out growing up. Bugs life, Toy Story, Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World. Chris's story is among the best of all those who served> My grandpa also served during WW2, one night shot a flair in the air then next morning learned a dead Japanese soldier with a flair burn to the back of his neck had been found. My grandpa lived well after the war before dying at age 92 first day of Spring 2015. He went to the same college as Trump and his kids. He managed a Honeywell for many years before retirement and spent the rest of his life in retirement. I'm working on becoming a leader in the environmental field. I also want to start a family and run a museum. I want to help veterans have something to come home to as part of my service in the environmental field. Beginning work in a career field is tough but I'll need to remain resilient, it will become easier the more I do it. Thank you to all veterans and all future service members!
When I was 19 years old in a Recon Unit, I shot my first person. Had a FNL .308 and using a starlight scope and this guy in Central America lit a cigar. My spotter said the shot is yours, I took my breath, did my figure 8 loop and at the top squeezed the trigger. He went down. 2 days later we went into their camp they had abandoned, this guys whole left shoulder was blown off. I aimed for his head but missed the mark by 4 inches. Was wet, had been raining and was a little windy. At 700 yards I still think it was pretty good.
Sure you did. Now it's time for your map, Willie. and of you are real good, you can go for a ride on your bike before your father gets home for supper.
Confirmed or probables? Carlos Hathcock had 200 probables along with his 91 confirmed kills. Chuck Malwhinney had 135 confirmed kills with another 75 possibles.
Chris Kyle was good but Carlos Hathcock was on a whole other level, the man took a suicide mission before he was suppose to b sent home from Vietnam and not only did he kill the NVA General after days of sneaking and hiding in the field outside his OP with ppl walking within ft of him he managed to make the shot and sneak away unseen White Feather needs his own movie guy was a total badass

Helmet can take shot from angle... If direct hit then bullet will go trough
Kevler is supposed to absorb the impact not deflect it, you stupid?
Dylan Wang he literally said the angle of it is what deflected it. The surface is still pretty solid bud.
its clear the bullet when to the side of the helmet. kevlar can absorb the impact of bullets but it is also built and designed in a way that if given enough angle, the bullet will 'slide' off the armor

Amen to that. good men die so quickly that when the ones who are lucky enough to make it back are called monsters for what they did and they are labeled as just another man who had fallen. @David Chen In "The" military? Not by a long shot, maybe in american special ops units and some canadians I believe, but not "the military" in general.

I can't believe the actual Navy SEAL sniper was murdered in a shooting range by a marine that had PTSA. he got 150 kills

Best millitary movie I have ever watched
Ok,I want you to try to see the movie through other people's eyes- imagine the pregnant woman he shot was hurt because American soldiers killed both her father and husband. Now imagine that the Iraqi sniper feels that he has no reason for living anymore, because American soldiers murdered his wife and only son.
@@osamaalafghanee8868 Well if they didn't fly a fucking plane into the towers then they wouldn't have been murdered now would they
@@doomguy349
Oil! It was all about oil, why do you think Saddam ordered all the oil-wells to be set on fire as soon as the USA arrived?
@@osamaalafghanee8868This movie is set after Saddam's Death and as you can see they are fighting insurgent's, not Hussein's Republican Army. This is not about oil, it's about keeping peace and stability in a hostile environment.

How can you invade a country, and call the people living there insurgents? Those people are: fathers whose child or children were killed by US troops, or children whose parent, parents were killed by US troops.
We complain because the main guy in this film has admitted to war crimes and genocide.
Actually Chris Kyle did, very proudly, proclaim himself to be a murderer, of Americans. He gloats about killing civilians after hurricane Katrina. Never actually happened, of course, dude was a liar, but he enjoyed the idea of killing unarmed American civilians and made that very public.
AceMcCoy He was a prick. Nuff said.
there it is.
Yeah lets invaide a country steel all of the oil turn it into a war zone and you will be a hero you are not a murder at all

Best sniper movie ever until now
Cause they made no non-American sniper movies.

映画って何でも出来てホント素晴らしいな
