Great instructions, but I have to admit that I used an Allen wrench to pop the lens off and was done in under 2 minutes. No need to go through the backside.
Thank you so much for this video. I had made several attempts to replace a Licence plate bulb on my 2010 Toyota Corolla. Just could not figure it out. Very fortunate to find your video at the right time. Your instructions were so helpful. Followed them step by step and managed to get the holder out and replace the bulb. Had to work very carefully but got there. Thank you very much, very grateful for your help.
Thanks a lot my friend , i was trying to change these for a while then i came across your video.. thanks a lot . i got them changed because of you instructions. God bless .. Thanks !!!
Great video!!! This is JUST what I was looking for. Had to change out a light bulb....now the replacement is way brighter than the other original 😂😂😂. Looks like I’m gonna have to change the other one too!!
Had 1 of 2 license plate lights blow out on my 2012 Camry, ordered some LEDs, couldn't figure out how to install them. Watched a few vids on how to remove from the outside, but couldn't get mine to budge. Watched your video and 5 minutes later I had 2 brand new LEDs installed. Thanks 🤙🏻
So funny!! I could have use this video but I ended figuring it out myself! I replaced my bulb with Panasonic 4300k blue parking bulbs and it looks great at night to match the front headlights I replaced as well! Thank for the video:)
Thank you for the video. It helped me change out my tag bulbs today. Saved this girl money with not needing a mechanic. One side wasn't cooperating but I finally got it back in.
You said at the beginning do not use the Allen key. But in the end that is the recommendation. Well, I think if you have time, do it like this video. And also to get these parts out you have to be a skilled person. I explains my self better, Do not use extreme force and be a Hulk for these kinds of tasks just decent force and that's it. So the well-managed Allen key works and saves time. I did it in my 2014 Toyota Avalon. Thank you
Thank you VERY much for this video! I would have most likely not been able to figure this out by my self so again ty. After doing this my self, I have to say that this is no "flaw" in design(my opinion) but rather made to keep average people from doing this for them self's which then forces them to take their car into the dealership to have a Toyota mechanic replace a fricken light bulb! I had to push, pull, torque, twist(which is risky because you can break the plastic) & curse at this thing to get it out because the hole that is there is to damn small. There are raised edges on the fixture that dont appear to have any purpose other then to make it very hard to pull this damn thing out. Before I put everything back together I'm gunna use a file on these raised edges and shorten them down a little so it will be much easier to do this job again in the future. I suppose next we will need a certified electrician to come out to our houses just to replace the light bulbs in our lighting fixtures......>.< As far as I'm concerned, Toyota like all big businesses today are greedy leeches out to suck your wallet dry! >...> OK, I'm done ranting.
Appreciate your effort but your method is cutting the tree down in order to get an apple. The hex key (Allen wrench) method is exceptionally easy. You can almost effortlessly insert the tool (which in truth, doesn't even necessarily have to be an Allen wrench) and quite safely pop them off/out. I didn't know about them until I looked up the bulbs to see if they were typical, standard, traditional, garden variety, if-you've-seen-one-you've-them-all, tag light bulbs, (the same ones that have been utilized for 50+ years) and a UA-cam video demonstrating the exceptionally easy removal process came up in my search. You can remove both covers, replace both bulbs and do it all from outside. It literally took me about 45 seconds to replace both bulbs. 👍🏻
This is also the method for 2015 Toyota Corollas made in Thailand and sold in Australia. Don't follow the youtube videos that tell you to twist, otherwise you will break the light assembly (guess how I know).
UA-cam here! Nice video .. :-) Thanks! Suggestions: 1. put on hat before bumping head .. it's less painful that way! (Thanks for the humor on that!) 2. another video suggested getting a spare clip for the trunk liner. .. although, removing two clips is easiter .. so I would suggest getting two clips. These pretty much break all the time. (maybe I don't have the proper technique.) 3. as trh55 said: the bulb number is 168. ... 'nuff said. 4. mine is the 2014 Camry Hybrid XLE. (It has a liner on the trunk lid.) 5. If you have to do both sides .. do one at a time .. that way it's easier which way the assembly goes back in if it got all turned around.
wanted to make sure i didnt break the plastic covers so i tried your way. still a pain in the ass but got the job done. about 20 minutes. struggled getting the tiny ass bulbs out of the socket.
Thanks for the video, but I have to say that I have tried your way and for some reason it just won’t come out and I just don’t want to break that part, I guess I will try the other way with the Allen wrench and see if can get it out, but it’s just a little annoying not being able to do that.
I just changed my lic.plate bulbs on my 2013 Corolla the other night. I replaced it with LED. The left side was hard to remove. I had to turn It clockwise to remove it. It took me 30mins to remove and replaced it
Looks like same set up for the 2021 corollas I was tryyna replace mine and got stuck there, because other videos show replacing them from inside of trunk
Nope, tried that and it's BS. You can't get the bulb out after taking off the lens cap. At least not without pliers. This worked better and he didn't show how easy it is to remove the liner by gently easing the liner clips out with a knife blade.
Same thing happen to me. Mine were almost impossible to get out of the hole in the trunk lid. I just used some red neck engineering and used a wire secured to the trunk lid to hold the light in place.
I broke the clip getting it loose :^( and it was not that easy to get the whole assembly completely out. I think just getting the clear cover off with a single Allen wrench would have been easier.
The hex key (Allen wrench) method is exceptionally easy. You can almost effortlessly insert the tool (which in truth, doesn't even necessarily have to be an Allen wrench) and quite safely pop them off/out. You can remove both covers, replace both bulbs and do it all from outside. It literally took me about 45 seconds to replace both bulbs. 👍🏻
Ironically, the general overall excellence of Toyota vehicles comes close to being PROOF that this was deliberately designed to be unnecessarily difficult. There is no way Toyota engineers were incompetent enough to screw it up this badly. I used a file to grind off the little metal tab that was added to stop you from pulling out the fixture.
Literally was just placing mine into my 2014 Camry... thought it was impossible.. thanks for the detail!
Remy LaBeau My bulb on my 2014 won't come out soo annoying
If everyone did a how to video like this guy did his, people could save a lot of money on repair bills.
Great instructions, but I have to admit that I used an Allen wrench to pop the lens off and was done in under 2 minutes. No need to go through the backside.
Allen wrench method is so much easier. The use of a 3/32 Allen wrench to remove lens covers makes replacement simple and less work.
thank you. it took some digging to find your video that applied to the type of light fixture I have. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the video! I just changed the license plate bulbs on my 2013 Toyota Camry and saved a lot of money and time at a repair shop.

Thank you so much. Mechanics wanted to charge $40+ for changing it. Happy l came across your video and was able to do it! Great job
You are the only person I have ever heard call a camry a truck lolz. Thanks for the video champ.
Great video!!! This is JUST what I was looking for. Had to change out a light bulb....now the replacement is way brighter than the other original 😂😂😂. Looks like I’m gonna have to change the other one too!!
With your video it took me 5 minutes to complete this task. Thanks.

Thanks for for posting this great video! I just changed the license plate bulbs 2011 Toyota Avensis T27

I was struggling until I found your video. Thank You 😊Excellent video!
My boy helped me in 2023. Thanks mate
Without your video I couldn’t have done it, Thank you so much....
Thank you for the video. It helped me change out my tag bulbs today. Saved this girl money with not needing a mechanic. One side wasn't cooperating but I finally got it back in.
It was the left side, wasn't it. The right was easy.
Thank you, made it look so easy I switched them out in no time with your video.
Thanks, got pulled over last night for my light being out. Didn't even know I had one, LOL! I can do this now, thanks for video.
Thank you for good video I just got mine done after watching your video it took me about 10 minutes it was easy
Dude omfg....this the best car video I’ve ever seen...you slayed it
Finally!!!!! I could not find a correct video, this works for my 2007 Lexus es350

Thanks ! I finally installed my LED’s , easiest way !!!
Thanks bro, I struggled for about 20 minutes myself before I looked it up on yt lol 👍🏻
Thank you so much! I was able to install my rear view camera! You are awesome! 😊
Thanks! Advice was spot on.
This really helped. I got a 2012 Camry and I was struggling

Thanks for sharing bro
thank you so much
about to go do mine now
cool. thanks man!
Perfect thank you
Thank you!👍
Great! Now both light clips are broken and all the trunk liner clips are broken. A simple led swap has become a major hassle.
Thank you!
If only car manufacturers made it this hard to remove a catalytic converter...
Thanks for the video, but I have to say that I have tried your way and for some reason it just won’t come out and I just don’t want to break that part, I guess I will try the other way with the Allen wrench and see if can get it out, but it’s just a little annoying not being able to do that.

Thaaannnnk you
Muy útiles los vídeos e instrucciones que se proporcionan, EXCELENTE.

Beleive it or not first time I did it to change bulb, broke assembly
Thanks
Looks like same set up for the 2021 corollas I was tryyna replace mine and got stuck there, because other videos show replacing them from inside of trunk
Do
You just pop those out without taking out center piece?
you don't have to do all this to get it out. you can easily pop the cover off from the outside, WITHOUT damaging anything (allen wrench method)
How did you pop the cover off from the outside?
👍
Hey I bumped my head on the trunk just like you said but still can't get it. Did you bump it once or multiple times? Lol
But how do you put it back? I can't put the bulbs back! :(
I couldn’t take it out with the the se I broke my damn clip mad now shout of just used my Alan ranch
Nope, tried that and it's BS. You can't get the bulb out after taking off the lens cap. At least not without pliers. This worked better and he didn't show how easy it is to remove the liner by gently easing the liner clips out with a knife blade.
I love our 2012 Camry, but these have to be the worse designed licence lamp assemblies that I have ever had to replace on any vehicle we have owned :S
Agree 100%. Terrible design!
Omg yes!!! This helped me out a lot!! Hahaha just a female trying to do everything herself lol
i am available whenever you need help.. i am a good man .
👍🏼👍🏼
i broke a side of the clip lol now need to adjust and add something to stabilize it meanwhile i find a replacement
I broke mine too... lol
Been trying to get it back in for 30 minutes straight… idk how the hell I got it out at this point
When removing this way, be careful when squeezing the clips bc I broke my first one and had to order a new one.
Same thing happen to me. Mine were almost impossible to get out of the hole in the trunk lid. I just used some red neck engineering and used a wire secured to the trunk lid to hold the light in place.
Thank you. We broke ours 😢. It’s was our fault though.
Thank you very much...

I had the same difficult time trying to get bulb holder out of the trunk lid. Toyota must have had a moron design this.
