@CheaterDxny UA-cam has always had replies. Unfortunately, the thread structure of many old videos was lost forever as a result of the Google+ integration a few years back.
Okay, that was one of the best UA-cam reviews I've seen. You actually used the device like how a typical end user would; instead of boring us with specs. Great job!
Actually for me after months of using it the worst thing is heat (it gets really hot when you do certain stuff with it, the music application overheats it like crazy). Weight and noise isn't a major problem and its a pretty snappy device.
Actually I didn't pause the camera once. The video was originally 46 minutes long but I edited it down to 22 minutes. My aim was to wiz through a bunch of content while keeping the video reasonably short. To do that I had to make lots of small cuts and make them often. I cut out the boring stuff while keeping the more essential stuff.
Ah, I won't be doing another one of those vids for a long time. When I do the next will be "Can DOS Replace Windows 7". Thats gunna be a crazy vid lol ;)
Lol you want another one of those videos? I've got to do a bunch of mum tries out episodes first then a "can dos replace windows 7". Windows 8 is still in early stages so I want to give it a chance to improve before I start trying to see if it can replace windows 7.
I meant the surface... I am so used to saying iPad that I used the wrong word. I didn't mean that the ipad shakes in fear when I touch a button on the surface lol ;)
Few weeks ago I had to get a new computer. It came with Windows 8.1 so I made sure with the manufacturer to dump it. They were very helpful and showed me step by step. I did not even make a back up disks knowing I will only be using linux on the system.
Windows 8 IS good the only thing is I had a slow laptop that ran Windows 8 and I never liked it. But 3 years later in 2016 I gave it another chance and I liked it!
It depends what you want to use it for. The problem is that both are very different tablets used for different purposes. If you plan to use apps then I'd go for the iPad but if you want to use your windows desktop applications go for the surface pro. The problem though is that desktop applications can run on the surface pro yet aren't optimized for it like the metro/modern apps are. So getting the surface pro has made me feel quite worried about the future of computing to be honest.

Windows is known for slowing down quite quickly so a follow-up a few months later might be interesting. The slightly laggy camera is unlikely to improve. Kinda the opposite of other OSes which often improve as you find better apps or better configs without dropping the resolution. Interesting to see this being used by someone who has researched into how to use it and who is an expert in these sorts of things. The mum is kinda an expert too now so it's going to be challenging to keep finding total noobs as people seem to quickly become quite expert once they try Mac and a couple of Gnu&Linuxes (Linii?). Please, I beg you OSfirstTimer, don't compare the Surface Pro to the iPad, they are in two different parts of the same spectrum that are distant apart. At least with the Surface Pro, just compare the thing to other ultrabooks and convertibles, even MacBook would be a fairer comparison. It's like you're comparing the power of a phone to the power of a high end gaming pc, its an unfair comparison
I agree 100%, let's just understand he WAS indeed comparing two competitors to give us the viewers, a better idea of which one might be better. I do however wish he would have done a pros and cons segment of each device.
don't compare producers nor tablets. Use what do the most for you. A product that allows me to do more is surely the one I choose but there are far more users who buy products just to speak for their needs.

I really enjoyed this review and the natural humor you add with it. Keep up the good work! I like that you incorporate your mother into your reviews as well. It adds a nice contrast and flavor to them. I have subscribed.

Btw, it is bulky, it is hot because it runs an actual CPU, not an "ARM" cpu. The A6 CPU used by Apple (Manufactured by Samsung) is using ARM's architecture, which is heavily mobile based, it isn't an 86 processor.
This is an operating system review channel. In the very far future we may do software reviews where we explore software from lots of different time periods. For example Deluxe Paint (1994) for the Amiga 1000. Still I don't think our channel will really get into that for at least 10 years.

Might be late here but Windows 8 isn't that bad. I used 8.1 kinda recently. On a PC when the lock screen comes up - you simply hit any key on your keyboard to bring up the login/password screen. You don't drag anything up with your mouse, as you stated.
The big difference with the Surface Pro vs the iPad is the CPU used - the iPad 2 uses the 'A5' chip (designed by ARM in Cambridge (where I live)) and the Surface Pro uses the Intel Core i5 CPU (a standard CPU)...
I have Windows 8 on a standard laptop. I installed "Classic Shell" which gave me a Start Orb on the desktop. I do all my work from the desktop, and Classic Shell boots the computer right to the desktop, avoiding the Metro Start screen altogether !
Looks great, there's a couple of things I'm disapointed with : 1 - Charger seems enormous, 2 - seems laggy, 3 - seems noisy, even if it is really little. I think I'm going to wait for Gen2 Surface for MS to iron out the bugs and improve the hardware.
