Yeah me too. Reeve, Reeve, Reeve. I'm four minutes in and every "Reeves" feels like being punched in the same place again and again. However, our boy here is not alone. People constantly say it wrong.
The Donner cut was a good idea in theory, but the fact is it's not really his vision truly brought back to life. It's a bit of a hodgepodge of the scenes he shot put together as well as they could, but it leaves much to be desired as he only shot about 75% of the movie to begin with, and ended up taking what was supposed to be the original ending of Superman II (spinning the earth back and reversing time) and using it for the first film instead. Really, the movie doesn't have a true beginning or end that makes a lot of sense. It pretty much retcons the first movie with one of the missiles being what breaks open the phantom zone, and then ends with turning back time to send them back. Had Donner stayed on he would have no doubt had to come up with new scenes for the villain's escape and the ending, and who knows what other re-writes or re-shoots he might have done with the rest of the movie. Really such a shame the producers were such asshats and let Donner go. I have no doubt if he had stayed on the quality would have been much more consistent throughout the series and it wouldn't have become the joke that it did.
George Reeves. Christopher Reeve. George Reeves. Christopher Reeve. George Reeves. Christopher Reeve. George Reeves. Christopher Reeve. George Reeves. Christopher Reeve. George Reeves. Christopher Reeve.
I'll blind buy this during a sale. Man of Steel was the first time I cared about Superman. Reeve was around and on TV when I was growing up but I much preferred batman
The Donner cut of 2 is far superior to the Lester one, you should have watched it all. I won't even watch the Lester one anymore. One of the reasons is exactly something you mention. In the Lester cut Superman just finds the green crystal and boom, powers back, easy peasy. In the Donner cut, there's an actual sacrifice. The remaining energy of Jor-el is expended to return his powers. There's an actual price to pay for Clark's earlier hubris. He no longer has any contact with his father and his birth world. He's truly alone now. I also like the fact that Lois figures out Clark is Superman by being smart enough to put two and two together, thus ending the age old "how is a star reporter fooled by a cheap pair of glasses" question. She isn't. In the Lester cut, it's just dumb luck that she happens to see Superman land and Clark walk out. Lois is a stronger, smarter character in the Donner cut. As for Superman giving up his powers for Lois, we saw in the previous film he was willing to break the laws of time for the woman he loved. This is a logical continuation from that point. Also, you say "how it was originally intended." The Donner cut was the original intent. Lester was brought in after the fact and recut and reshot stuff, so really the Donner cut is closer to the intent. Told you 3 and 4 were awful. 😂Unless this box set is on sale cheap, I'm just going to wait for a stand-alone release of the Donner Cut of 2 to go along with the stand alone 1.
Love the channel but I gotta say... It's Christopher Reeve... Not Reeves... Haha George Reeves from TV yes... Got my set coming in the mail. Can't wait...
@@midlevelmedia I wish that the bad Superman was the main villain in the movie the woman that turn into a robot at the end of the movie always freaked me out when I was a kid
I bought this set, can’t wait to check it out. I did buy the first one in 4K five years ago, I thought it was just me, I was disappointed in the restoration in which I like the blu ray better. As for the movies themselves, my two favourites is 2 & 3. I saw them both in crowded theatres and both times everyone had a great time at those engagements. The 4K set, I really wish they would have had the same for the Back to the future 4k set where they were individually packed like this set.
Glad you got to see these. Supes: The Movie is fantastic. I refer the Donner Cut to the theatrical for II. It's more cohesive, but still hampered by the ending. III isn't really good, but still way better than IV because of the Superman vs. Superman fight alone. Great video!
I admittedly cannot be objective when it comes to Christopher Reeve’s Superman; some of my earliest and fondest memories are asking my Dad to rent these from Video Chest, and I was mesmerized. I love all four of them.
The look of the original superman is deliberate. If you read up on it, the fog/diffused lenses was a directorial and cinematographer choice in order to create a surrreal/dreamlike quality to the image. The picture has received a lot of criticism due to this, but when you scratch the surface, it's an accurate representation of how the movie was supposed to look in the first place. Any changes to this would have been very much revisionist and as you say, you prefer to watch the movie as it was originally intended, so...
I definitely agree this is overpriced at $90. I went ahead and picked it up anyway because I have been waiting a long time for this set. Fortunately I sold my digital code to someone for $25 which brought the cost down to a comfortable level for me.😊
C'mon Ken! It's not New York City, it's Metropolis! Geez man. The only problem with your review, I feel, is that you are too young to understand what an impact the Superman films had on us older people that didn't grow up on the newer Batman movies. I got the steelbook collection coming tomorrow and I can't wait to blow up my OLED and 7.1 Atmos sound system!
If you listen to Richard Donner’s commentary on the Donner cut he refers to Superman III a Richard Pryor comedy with Superman as a secondary character which to me seems quite accurate
My Steelbook arrived from Amazon today. What a beautiful set and the nostalgia hits me good. I grew up idolizing Reeve’s Superman and I remember seeing IV in theaters.
Hey Ken just got done watching your review for the Superman movies on my PlayStation five. I just wanted to write this and thank you for doing this review I think I’m definitely going to wait a while for the Superman movies at least until after July maybe I might go down to $69.99
Great Review. Enjoyed it. As to your issue with Superman being willing to give up his powers so quick, I have an explaination. Superman was acutally already in love with Lois in Superman 1. He was willing to defy what has father told him about changing time and save Lois. Only if he really loved her would he be willing to do that. Even early on in Superman 1, when Lois interviewed Superman, just the way she looked at him, you could tell she was in love with him. Then they had that big flying sequence, that really setup the romance. So it doesnt suprise me in the least he was willing to give up his powers for her. For me, it wasnt a quick descision. They loved each other long before going to the fortress. Got mine on Gruv for 20% off. So $55.99 plus tax...worth that..
This set has problems. WB should've had a true pre-order for a long time so everyone who wanted the steelbooks would get as many as they wanted. The basic set has lame covers. Why no reversible art of the posters? Why doesn't this set feel like a celebration? No big fanfare, no big push. No slips. Not much for new features. This is a lazy release. I'm the core audience and I'm passing on it. Maybe I'll get it on a Black Friday sale or something, but this isn't the Superman collection we deserve.
I love all the movies, Superman the Movie was the first "Adult" movie I saw in theaters, I was 8 and SO excited that my aunt took me to see it, a very happy memory, she also took me to see Star Wars a New Hope, she is my favorite aunt.
Superman the movie is my favorite movie of all time. I saw the first one the day after Christmas 1978 and have loved Superman ever since. Completely disagree with you about him giving up his powers so quickly for love. Females through out time have been the cause of many a man getting tricked up. Lol Samson, Paris even some of the angels in heaven gave up their immortality and their stations in heaven to be with human females. So, it was by no means a stretch that he gave up his powers so quickly. The Donner cut did a better job of showing the why a little better I thought. The Dynamic between Supes and Jor- El was way better than between him and his mother in the Lester version. Also didn’t mind him using the formation control Crystal to get his powers back in Superman 2. If he had dropped any other crystal he would’ve been screwed. But she dropped the right crystal and saved his behind. Lol One complaint I always had with Superman 2 is that he went to the artic as a normal human being wearing only members only jacket. 😉😂😉🤦🏾♂️ Superman 1 is a masterpiece. And like you I’m conflicted with the theatrical Version of 2 and the Donner cut. There are elements I like from both films. Maybe we need now the fan cut that splices the best part from both versions into a new version of the film. 3 and 4 broke my heart. I haven’t seen them since I saw them in theaters. I’ll revisit them here now on 4K. And for the record I bought the Steelbook collection and the one you are reviewing now. Yea, I’m that much of a Superman fan. 😉
When I discovered the expanded version of the original was not on this set I checked out. I’ll stick with what I have. ANY ultimate new compilation should never be missing any bonus material from previous offerings, especially with a $90 price point. I prefer the expanded original.
Great in depth review, thank you. I have the Blu-ray box set and have been considering the steelbook 4K box set I’m never able to get over the line and commit to a second box set of this franchise. I was disappointed with the original movie in terms of transfer I traded it in. I am essentially wanting the steelbook set for the packaging- a tough sell here.
Will Definitely wait on this one. Especially since there are no slipcovers. Im a sucker for getting stuff early for the slipcover but ill wait on this! thanks for the review!
I want to say I saw a comparison on another channel and it looks like Superman movie has a new color grading at a minimum on this set as compared to the 2018 release
100% dissagree. I did not like it at ALL! I grew up with the version we saw which is the Lester version. The Donner cut changed so many key parts of the movie I grew up with. So thank God we can see the original version still
Hey Ken I have been a big fan of yours for a while and looking forward to your reviews. Unfortunately I have to say this hasn’t been one of your best. I know the review are your opinions but coming from a massive Superman fan it was let down. You stated that you only skimmed through Superman 2 the Donner cut. I mean he only tried to make that movie with the limited resources he had and it made more sense than the original Lester version. You state in your opinion that it becomes comedic in Superman 2 but that’s because of Lester’s background in comedy. If you watch the Donner version in its entirety you will notice the continuous tone to the first movie. Also you state that Superman 3 is the worst of the franchise. I mean really? It definitely wasn’t the best but certainly not the worst. No matter how good the transfer is for Superman 4 it still let’s down the franchise. You stated that Michael Shannon’s Zod is more menacing than Terrance Stamp’s character. I beg to differ. He is the original bad villain in superhero movies in my opinion. And please it is Christopher Reeve and not Christopher Reeves. I could go on more but it would take a while lol. Feel free to reply to the comment. And do keep up the great content you provide.
Definitely gonna be buying this set and actually already have it on the way. For the record as far as what you said about preferring the original vision, if that's the case, then you need to go with the Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2 because that was in fact the original vision of that movie and that's what was originally intended.
Especially with Marlon Brando rather than Susanna York. The Father figure idea was much better then the mother figure. There is a story behind that why Brando wasn’t in part 2 theatrical.
I disagree. 1.) He means what was in the cinema at the time. What people on the street and critics saw and talked about. That is "original". The director had another vision? Well that's Hollywood! 😉 - The Donner Cut is not the original vision but a Frankenstein cut created years later. Donner might have approved it but he couldn't go back in time and made it exactly like he had imagened it.
I definitely have to agree, the man is still was a very, very good movie, but the superman original movie was an awesome classic, first of its kind, you get your ass, kicked by a classic, you can steal that if you want, I’d love for that to be spread around, but you also got admit Thank God they gave it to us in Atmos, a lot more surrounding mix in all films, thank you, Warner Bros. for finally stepping up, I will bring up the last boys, hand poltergeist, but at least she gave us superman, all the movies, and Dolby Atmos, thanks for that one or brothers
Ken not sure if you are aware but there are some really cool extra scenes on the DVD snap case release of the first Superman film! I think they add a lot to the narrative
The removal of the 70mm mix of I, no new transfer of I, issues in II, the massive audio problems on II and IV and the extreme overpricing in a cheap box that has no new Blu-ray Discs AND is missing extras from the Anthology BD set are all dealbreakers. Warner has zero QC.
Superman The Movie was an epic movie with top billing stars in the cast. I feel that unlike any other superhero movie - it had heart , I felt very invested in the characters and when ( SPOILER ALERT) Lois Lane died I felt really sad for Superman. And the score and the love theme is just so iconic. I would love to get this set at some point, when the price drops. The artwork for the covers are hideous! I wish they used the original poster art like on the steelbooks.
My favorite Superman film is Man of Steel, I do love these films too as they were a good adaptation of the comics of the time, just as Man of Steel is for 2013, but I'll have to disagree that it's more timeless than Batman 89. I find that both films hold up well but have a campy nature to them that wasn't felt at the time. Superman 2, the whole "Clark giving up his powers to sleep with Lois" is completely misinterpreting the situation. Yes they sleep together pretty fast but he gives up his powers to be with Lois in a relationship as he's told he can't otherwise (which doesn't make sense & is just forced drama), but it's not really as single minded as that. I do think the exchange between Clark & his mother vs Jor El and Clark are vastly different and both give off equally powerful feelings. With the Donner Cut, Donner kind of made it a horror scene where he's not happy & looks towards Lois with anger & disdain while Lara in the Lester Cut has a much more tender, yet tragic feeling. At the end of the day the whole subplot is dumb & has never made sense outside of allowing Zod & crew to wreak havoc. I certainly hope your stance on theatrical cut only viewing is not the same as Justice League, because the theatrical cut is an insult to everyone involved from fans, to the workers involved in making it, etc. Superman 3 is a guilty pleasure, like Batman Forever, it's not great but it has moments. I especially like their version of Red Kryptonite. Annette O'Toole is actually a huge comic book reader & played Martha Kent in Smallville where she'd often give some insights on knowledge. She was in Superman 3 because Margot Kidder was very vocal about her disgust at how Richard Donner was treated for Superman 2. Superman 4 had good moments too but man is it a shame how bad it was. Good I'll say is the fight sequence, the music is actually pretty good too and Christopher Reeve does well. This did help us get Street Smart though as that film was paid for by Reeve doing this film Superman Returns was not included and I think it's because of Bryan Singer & Kevin Spacey was in it. Which sucked because they weren't the only ones who worked on it. The documentary Look Up in the Sky was missing as well as the Bryan Singer journals for Singer's involvement in that too. Not sure why You Will Believe documentary as as the Christopher Reeve tribute & Science of Superman documentaries aren't on here either. Guess they didn't want to create a new disc since all the Blu-Ray's are the same as the 2011 Blu-ray set, which in itself was an upgraded version of the 2006 DVD set. Another thing missing is the Superman Special Edition disc which featured a Donner commentary & other features, the Extended TV Version is also not on here and finally the Supergirl film with Helen Slater which is connected to the films aren't on here. I got the 4K Steelbook set just for the new discs and Steelbook as I have the Blu-ray set. The digital code does include the Extended TV Cut as a special feature though on Movies Anywhere.
Hey Ken I have to agree with you about the opening credits. I have a Sony HT-A9 system with the SW5 subwoofer and the Dolby Atmos was great, especially those opening credits.
My beef was the fact that a disc and a half of extras and the extended edition of 'Superman' are missing from the original BluRay release. That set also includes 'Superman Returns' so I will just stick with that...
I have learned to wait when buying movies from Amazon until after the preorder has ended especially on older rereleases. It seems with the older releases they always drop in price on or after release day. I have had this on my wish list for a month now and it has dropped 33% since i added it. Just waiting for my April Prime points to be deposited in the next 24-48 hours and should be able to pick this up for $55.00- $60.00. Expect this will be a huge upgrade over my $5.00 four film favorites Walmart bin set that I have had for 12 plus years.
Thanks for the review! 3 and 4 are god-awful. I'm not paying $90 for a set of 4 movies when two suck. I'm waiting for a 4K single release of the Donner cut to pair with my 4K of the first movie and I'll call it good. I have no use for the other movies. Ken if you're a big fan of the first movie there's also a 3-hour extended TV version that you can buy/rent on digital.
No DB he probably does not know, as i find out stuff thru sources before he tells us, but why 28 mins far too long, lets see how James Gunn does with Superman Legacy, coming summer 2025.
Superman the movie agreed it’s such a great film . I was lucky enough when I was 13 years old to see it in the theatre when it was first released . I would go to the theatre another 4 times to see it again and stayed for 2 showings a couple times lol . I have the 2018 4K and I can tell you the image is very close to what I remember the film looking like.
I've been struggling to upgrade this. I heard there is a bonus features disc that is not included that is on the bluray set. Doesn't sound like there is a massive video or audio upgrade and no new special features I might have to pass and keep my bluray set Thanks Ken for the review!!
It's a shame that they wouldn't do anything new in the features. You're right. I'm curious to know what features are on three and four though. Four supposedly has an hour of footage that was lost. Not saying that would help the movie at all but I'm curious.
The foggy effect was the type pf principal photography. That is how the director intended. Check reviews from the movie collector. I also saw the first one in a movie hall int he 1980's It looks exactly the same. So there is nothing wrong with the transfer. In fact the blu ray was DNRD to death. Also you are wrong, warner brothers has also restored the first movie again specifically for this set. So an advice, leave the review of audio and video to videophiles and audiophiles who really understand the details of the transfer and how it conpares to the original director's vision.
Jeff East played young Clark Kent . He was earlier seen with Jodie Foster in Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn . Managed to get his autograph, as well as Richard Donner’s autograph in 2000. I do hope you saw the restored Brando scenes in the Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2. Superman The Movie is supposed to look “cloudy” - that was the way Geoffrey Unsworth intended it to be shot. Having said this , I agree it could look a tad better.
I appreciate these movies and the artistry in them way more than I enjoy the movies themselves. Also, Superman isn't my favorite superhero so this is an easy pass for me but I'm glad the fans got a tricked out set with those gorgeous steelbooks
Hey Ken I know you don't review digital version of movies.but for the those hardcore fans The digital version of superman the movie has 3 hour ttv cut of the movie. I was suprised that The video quality is quite good IMHO.
They need to release a cut of Superman 2 that is the Richard Donner Cut but with the ending of the theatrical Richard Lester cut. The Donner cut does everything better except for rehashing the same ending of Superman '78.
That was a huge thing when superman did that for lois man i think your over thinking or missing something watching these Terry stamp feels more powerful than shannon Shannon just more modern Im letting you slide on these reviews man lol
I was in high school when the first Superman came out. Moving on .... 😁 It's a shame Richard Pryor made so many awful choices when it came to movie roles. He had a few good ones like the Silver Streak but most of them undermined his groundbreaking stand-up routines. Anyone who wants to see Pryor at his best should track down the DVD where he hosted a first-season episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975. That includes the Exorcist 2 parody and the very edgy word-association sketch with Chevy Chase that can be found online. That episode ran with a seven-second tape delay because of fears that Pryor would swear on live TV. There are also DVDs of his very short-lived TV show - the Richard Pryor Show - from 1977. It's somewhat uneven but the special that launched the series is hilarious, as is the skit in one episode where he plays America's first black president.
I really wish. Warner brothers would have made these individual releases, Especially those of us who purchased the 4K of the 1st film. At the very least I wish they had put the television Is cut in for this release Giving us an excuse to at least rebuy it In This set. Honestly the only film I want out of this is Superman two the lester cut. This is the film I saw in the theater I watched on HBO. Multiple viewing as a child. On to VHS and finally DVD. And the blue ray which was difficult to locate because it was only released in the Box. That was released in 2006. This is a $90 set through Best Buy right now and I'm going to hold off and Hold off to see if Warner brothers Eventually releases singles of these.
Good video, I’m so conflicted if I should buy this. First Superman the Movie it’s a shame they didn’t give us the Special Edition. I like the theatrical version but the special edition is my go to when watching. I’m not sure if I’d watch the theatrical version much. Next is the price to buy the collection with the collector tins it will cost me $349.95 Au not that the price is a big deal with the extra stuff you get looks good but then we go back to my first point of the first movie not having a 4K Extended version. I’ve got the original collection on Blu-ray with Superman Returns and I’ve also got the 3hr Superman Movie Tv version. So I’m just very confused if I should get this or not. Thoughts ?
I’m not a die hard fan of Superman just a casual fan of Superman I prefer more Batman than Superman but that just me though Kenny bro and I really do like Superman Returns 2006 and Brandon Routh was my favorite Superman back in my childhood days Kenny bro and Man of Steel 2013 was actually good and never seen the original Superman 4 movies and this set is so expensive so I might get it if it goes down in price but we shall see though
I'm crazy, I already received the Amazon Steelbook collection and waiting on the regular set to come in from Best Buy! know I'm annoyed they didn't do a rescan of part 1 also no new features and why Returns was added too, when it was originally to both the DVD and Blu-ray collection, which I have (I guess I'll keep that for now) and conserned cannon with the other films? I kind of agree that over time for me 3 has gotten worse than 4 even though I don't truly hate any of tham! It's just 1 and 2 are just miles better ten the other 2! I seitch back and front on 1 and 2 on which is my favorite! As far as The Donner Cut goes it was okay and glad it was included but it wasn't necessary and probably will watch it one more time to see how the 4k looks than go back to the Theatrical Cut for future watchings!
Superman IV is better than Superman III, cuz 3 has that goofy slapstick opening sequence, like what was that supposed to be? Richard Pryor is fine honestly. Watch the Donner Cut in its entirety because I feel it’s better than Lester’s. As far as the transfers yea the original Superman is not the best looking 4K but I think that dreamy look was intentional, the colors still look great good and his costume pops out good. I think the remaining Superman films all look great but it shows how much they have aged though with the effects. I’m happy with this release though and I just wish they would’ve released Returns also because that audio is amazing.
I've always liked Superman 3. Actually, it was Superman 2 that I didn't really like that much. It's way too cheesy as compared to the first film, like they tried too hard to appeal to the kiddie audience. It's only in recent years that I've begun to appreciate 2 for what it is.
I have seen in other reviews that the first movie is a slight upgrade from the 2018 4K release. Not a lot better but not the exact same release as 2018.
One of the reasons why Superman IV was so horrible and cheap was because it was released by Canon Films. The same company that brought us Masters of the Universe and all those Chuck Norris movies.
They deliberately, and idiotically, used non-digital diffusers, on 'Superman: The Movie' like 'Casablanca' it can't be fixed. The Extended TV Version and Longer Director Cut of Superman I are available in a separate 2 Movie Blu Ray similar to 'Supergirl' having a Director and Extended International Cut.
There was so much drama with Superman 4 you should look into it. There was 45 minutes of footage cut from the movie and the budget went from like 35 million to 17 million which is why it looks so bad. Cannon bought the rights from the Salkind’s and basically were bankrupt. It was a mess. There was no chance for that movie to succeed right from the start.
So I watch a lot of your videos you're making it harder for me to continue after what you said about comparing Adam West to Christopher Reeve, that's like comparing a McDonald's cheeseburger to a porterhouse steak . Even George Reeves was a better Superman than Adam West was a Batman nothing against Adam West I just thought his Batman was pretty campy which was intentional anyways Christopher Reeves the greatest Superman there ever will be Henry Cavill was okay .
I said I was wrong after actually watching the films. That was just my perception beforehand. I love Reeve now. Fully endorse him as the best Superman.
I enjoy Batman Forever and Batman and Robin and I like those movies than the first 2 Batman movies since I didn’t grew up with those two and I love Batman Forever 1995 and it’s the same year I was born so that movie was made for me to like and appreciate it and I love Nicole Kidman in that movie and she was so hot back in the good old days and she is still good looking for her own age too and I love her as a actress too and I’m glad that she in a Batman movie rather than Superman but that just me though bro in my opinions
Every time you call him Christopher ReeveS sends shivers up my spine. It’s Reeve.
Yeah me too. Reeve, Reeve, Reeve. I'm four minutes in and every "Reeves" feels like being punched in the same place again and again.
However, our boy here is not alone. People constantly say it wrong.
Just like his Star Track. Ken gonna Ken.

It's Christopher Reeve... Not Reeves... Haha
George Reeves from TV yes...
Got my set coming in the mail. Can't wait...
I did know that, but can't stop myself from saying it that way. Lol

Hey Ken, I saw the first Superman at cinema. I remember my mom took me and my brother for the first time to see a movie and I loved it
That movie was so good. I couldn't believe it. Loved it!
My Mom took me with my brother as well when it was at the theater.
It was almost sold out and the three of us had to sit in separate seats.
If you're into comics, check out superman 78. It's the original superman 3 before they got richland pryer. Not bad actually.
Feel like they could've done Supergirl in 4k just for completion purposes since it was technically a spinoff
Superman 3 is my favorite because you got bad Superman and I like the 3hr cut of Superman movie if that was on 4K I would get the boxset
Bad Superman fight is the best part of that movie.

Now that you watched superman 1 and love you might appreciate wonder woman little more
The look of the original superman is deliberate.
100 % correct about the look being deliberate. Don't doubt the DP of 2001 A Space Odyssey.
And what an impact it was.
Without superman movies you dont get those awesome batman movies lol superman the best
Rejecting The Richard Donner Cut and calling the Lester version "the original version" is heartbreaking.
It's what we grew up with so to me it is the original version.
If you listen to Richard Donner’s commentary on the Donner cut he refers to Superman III a Richard Pryor comedy with Superman as a secondary character which to me seems quite accurate
My Superman steelbooks are coming tomorrow.
Christopher Reeves is my favorite.
I was also lucky enough to order that set before it sold out.
@@nangaeboko6710
Nice.
I have the steelbook set coming also
@@mikebragg9591
Nice.
Tomorrow?
My Steelbook arrived from Amazon today. What a beautiful set and the nostalgia hits me good.
I grew up idolizing Reeve’s Superman and I remember seeing IV in theaters.
I do think batman 89 and returns hold up
Hey Ken just got done watching your review for the Superman movies on my PlayStation five. I just wanted to write this and thank you for doing this review I think I’m definitely going to wait a while for the Superman movies at least until after July maybe I might go down to $69.99
The greatest superhero movies
The Donner cut is the only version of part II available in Scandinavia. If you want original cut. You need to buy the box set.
Thanks for the review will pass for now!! Maybe Black Friday
Great Review, really looking forward to picking this one up and watching them for the first time.
Thank you
Great Review.
Great review!! Looking forward to picking this up!
The steelbooks are still available from the UK . Some state out of stock which are old listings
@@movieflicktube Yeah I'm not paying $200+ after import fees.
I love all the movies, Superman the Movie was the first "Adult" movie I saw in theaters, I was 8 and SO excited that my aunt took me to see it, a very happy memory, she also took me to see Star Wars a New Hope, she is my favorite aunt.
Thanks for reviewing Ken, I’ve got the first one in 4K & second one in blu. That set is a lot of money.
Nice review dude... I picked up the Steelbook Set of these but haven't cracked it open yet....
Superman the movie is my favorite movie of all time. I saw the first one the day after Christmas 1978 and have loved Superman ever since.
Completely disagree with you about him giving up his powers so quickly for love. Females through out time have been the cause of many a man getting tricked up. Lol
Samson, Paris even some of the angels in heaven gave up their immortality and their stations in heaven to be with human females.
Lol
One complaint I always had with Superman 2 is that he went to the artic as a normal human being wearing only members only jacket. 😉😂😉🤦🏾♂️
Superman 1 is a masterpiece.
Yes you are right.
Not the exact same as 2018.
I'm not into superheroes but have seen them all. Good review and cool video Ken!👉😃👈
The Richard Donner cut is the only version that needs to exist. The “original” was a trashing of Donner’s vision. Burn the Lester version.
I am sorry to disappoint you. Just my opinion from the way I saw it.
Nice review Ken I'm waiting for a price drop on this set.
Thanks man!
High School Clark Kent= Jeff East and Ursa= Sarah Douglas. I might also add that Jeff East was in Pumpkinhead.
- The Donner Cut is not the original vision but a Frankenstein cut created years later. Donner might have approved it but he couldn't go back in time and made it exactly like he had imagened it.
It’s unfortunate that this set doesn’t include slip covers. Luckily, I was able to snag the Steelbook set off Amazon.
Apparently they messed up the score on the 4th movie. Its disappointing that studios are slacking on the quality control on these classic releases
This did help us get Street Smart though as that film was paid for by Reeve doing this film
Superman Returns was not included and I think it's because of Bryan Singer & Kevin Spacey was in it.
It was amazing.
Ken, you know they’re coming out with individual slipcover additions. Same with ROCKY, and BACK TO THE FUTURE.
No DB he probably does not know, as i find out stuff thru sources before he tells us, but why 28 mins far too long, lets see
how James Gunn does with Superman Legacy, coming summer 2025.
Are the blu rays included in this set upgrades as well?
Superman the movie agreed it’s such a great film . I was lucky enough when I was 13 years old to see it in the theatre when it was first released . I would go to the theatre another 4 times to see it again and stayed for 2 showings a couple times lol . I have the 2018 4K and I can tell you the image is very close to what I remember the film looking like.
I've been struggling to upgrade this. I heard there is a bonus features disc that is not included that is on the bluray set. Doesn't sound like there is a massive video or audio upgrade and no new special features
I might have to pass and keep my bluray set
Thanks Ken for the review!!
It's a shame that they wouldn't do anything new in the features. You're right. I'm curious to know what features are on three and four though. Four supposedly has an hour of footage that was lost. Not saying that would help the movie at all but I'm curious.
Nice reviews Ken!
Good review man I heard the 4k doesn’t have no where near the same features the Blu-ray had! Wth
On Amazon it's on sale for $89.99 at this price is it worth it should I wait till goes cheaper????
That is a cool super man box set Ken I remember watching those movies RIP Christopher Reeves 👍👍🆒🆒

If it's any consolation Ken, I said "Reeves" my entire life. I just learned today that it's "Reeve".
Yeah the worst part is I knew it, but still pronounced it wrong. Now dealing with the repercussions in the comment section.
If you ask me, it's too expensive. But I am happy with DVDs, which I have of all 5.
Did you see the Amazon Exclusive Steelbook version of this set ?
🦸♀🦹Are these 4k blu rays just as good as the ones in the steelbook❓❔Are the special features the same as the steelbook version as well❓❔ THX‼
Reeve
Great review
That was a huge thing when superman did that for lois man i think your over thinking or missing something watching these
Terry stamp feels more powerful than shannon
Shannon just more modern
Im letting you slide on these reviews man lol
I was in high school when the first Superman came out. Moving on .... 😁
It's a shame Richard Pryor made so many awful choices when it came to movie roles.
Sad that producers didn’t listen to Richard Pryor when he said he should do the role serious instead of comedic
The fogginess is inherent to the first film.
you got the superman collection free ?
Yeah i bought the first release of Superman in 4k and i was not impressed with the picture quality
Sweet
I prefer The Richard Donner cut
I got mine in the mail
You're the best reviewer of movies that suck. Always enjoy your take.
Yeah if they did additional work, it wasn't much. Everything I saw in the promo material indicated it was the same transfer.
There was no chance for that movie to succeed right from the start.
algún día lo voy a tener en mis manos
This needed to have Returns included. It's part of the storyline.
For sure
And Supergirl as well for completion purposes
Had to turn off the video when you said anybody buy Reeves is the best Superman
But he didn't say that so maybe you should have watched it.
@@outdoorsjoeUh, yeah he did. And he has before.
It's Reeve, not Reeves
I said I changed my mind after giving these Supermans a fair chance. Reeve is the best to me now.
Before I saw Reeve movies in their entirety.
Christopher Reeve, not Reeves!
@@midlevelmedia lol I still love your vids
I enjoy Batman Forever and Batman and Robin and I like those movies than the first 2 Batman movies since I didn’t grew up with those two and I love Batman Forever 1995 and it’s the same year I was born so that movie was made for me to like and appreciate it and I love Nicole Kidman in that movie and she was so hot back in the good old days and she is still good looking for her own age too and I love her as a actress too and I’m glad that she in a Batman movie rather than Superman but that just me though bro in my opinions
