Recently bought my first ASUS board - a ROG STRIX Z690-e. Paired it with Corsair Dominator DDR5-5600Mhz RAM and a 13700k. I’ve never been an ‘overclocker’ but I loved this series and played along at home with all the tweaks and tests. Got some amazing results (5.99Mhz on one of the P cores) and great stability. My sims are performing better than ever! Ps. That ROG STRIX 3090 I got also helped too! Cheers and thanks ASUS!

Thank you so much for making this video. It defently helps alot, on letting us know on feature sets for the 13th Gen and the Z790 Platform. (Even for other platforms as well)
Seeing this video, I actually changed my mind on the board that I was getting from the last message from before. I'm more leaning towards in getting the Z790 Hero than the Strix-E, at first I was leaning on for the 13900K but got worried on how Power Hungry from some reviewers have said (including with the Temps it reached in CinBenchMark and was thinking of the 13700K)
But by seeing this video, I may end up changing my mind n still go for the 13900K and most likely follow up from what you've shown there. I was more concern like with Temps when its under a heavy load, including if i was multi tasking, while gaming or even task in Blender or Content Creation, while Gaming.
    Thanks soo much J.J

@@ASUSUSA I got a low sp 13700k and I have set the optimism value to the max allowed which is 150 (I increased little by little) and I have noticed that the voltage idle is high around 1.5v and under load it drops significantly. Would I have any risk of damaging cpu? I haven’t touched the jumper for extra cpu power.
Edit: temps are really good, both under load and idling.

Hey JJ! @ASUS North America I got a question regarding the subject of "undervolting" I know I probably leave alot of performance on the table and I will never actually use AVX instruction stuff outside benchmark scenarios, however, out of the box (factory settings) my ROG Maximus z790 APEX + i9-13900KS run VERY hot in benchmarks, usually hitting TJMAX within seconds on 2 or 3 cores and then throttling. I have done 0 manual OC and do not have AI OC enabled. I remounted my i9 several times to make sure it was not a thermal paste issue and it is not. I am fully water-cooled as well using 3 rads. Which leads me to the undervolt discussion. I see in AIDA64, HWINFO64 that I am currentlly using ~1.37v - 1.45v and around 350w of power to the CPU. This is insanity for the motherboard to feed the CPU with out of box factory bios 0904 settings. Will setting negetive (-) offset of 0.10000 to GLOBAL VRM CORE VOLTAGE (changing it from auto to offset mode) significantly reduce my overall performance? And will it be possible to increase frequency after said changes? I wish you guys showed a way to lock the voltage at intel specs, and lock power draw at intel specs (PL1 and PL2) 253 & 125, while still being able to use the 2-core 6ghz, 8-core 5.7ghz. I know its possible, but I got no idea which settings I would have to adjust or modify to get there. Anytime I change the power limits and set a fixed voltage my benchmarks go significantly down (-20% +). Please help! I should not be having all these heat issues with the z790 APEX and i9-13900KS; especially with a fully water-cooled loop! I essentially just want to reduce the power draws but maintain current OEM performance. It's feeding the system way to much power currently to error on the side of safety/stability. Help JJ! I wanna get this down to 1.3v 260w power draw, and then use my thermal headroom to OC.

looking to finally upgrade my old 8700k and 1080ti, but i haven't done any overclocking since i built my system in 2016! Wow things have changed so much! Its kinda confusing me tbh!
Does no one overlock in BIOS anymore?? I always remember these overclocking utilities massively overvolting things, and therefore most people tweaked in BIOS for better control. Is that not the case anymore?
Is the adaptive voltage just a new way to say offset overclock? or is that something different? My old 3930k ran an offset overclock setup where it would only ramp it up if needed

The card must be used in a Gen 5 slot if you want to use a Gen 5 SSD but the reality is modern applications do not readily leverage the bandwidth of Gen 4 or upcoming Gen 5 drives. Hello, first of all, thank you for the detailed video and for the extensive work you put in all of your streams.
I am very curios and searching to maybe validate my future choice: Is the APEX a good investment? I am building a high end PC, 13900k, RTX 4090, custom water loop, etc.
I want this PC to last about 5 to 7 years.
So: 1 - Is the APEX RAM size enough for this time period? If so, is it 64 or 128 Gb max?
2 - Will there be 64 Gb DIMMS in the future, and if so would the APEX take 64x2 ?
3 - Will there be a Quad channel DDR 5 in the future ( even tho the dual channel DDR5 Is already a sort of Quad channel ) ? Curious because I'm still oscillating between 2 or 4 slots.
Mentioning that I am a heavy pc user, game developer with Unreal 5 , Blender, Adobe suite and many many browser tabs constantly opened.
    Thank you very much !

    • @ASUSUSA
      @ASUSUSA  Рік тому +1

You may be better served by the HERO. With this noted.
      1. the APEX supports 64GB currently and may support 128GB once these DIMMS are released on the market, this may require a firmware update and is unknown at this time.
      2. Yes, there will be 64DIMMs in the future. future support is TBD
      3. No Quad Channel is based on the CPU IMC and chipset. Z790 is a dual channel platform.
I would recommend you check your currently memory load usage and target your memory selection based on this, keep in mind that density affects scaling. The denser the lower the frequency.

Hey JJ - I've been playing around with AiOC on my Maximus Z790 Extreme with 13900KS and was wondering if you could help clarify a few things:
    1. Is it possible to apply an undervolt to the AiOC to try and lower temps even further? If yes, how or where in BIOS would I do this? Do I use the V/F Point Offset for each point or do I need to enter an offset voltage value in the Actual VRM Core Voltage or Global Core SVID Voltage settings? I played around with the latter two settings but could not see the offset reflected in Intel XTU.
    2. I always get confused around the effects of MultiCore Enhancement and how that now ties in with AiOC. What is the best practice of MCE with regards to AiOC? Should we leave MCE on Auto or Enabled or disable it for best results?
    3. Could you do a more in-depth tutorial video on how to use the new Cache Dynamic OC Switcher feature? I tried OCing my cache following what you did in this livestream but my system became unstable and I wasn't sure which values to adjust and how much to change. I looked online but could not find any useful guides on this feature so it would really help to have some kind of detailed tutorial.

    • @ASUSUSA
      @ASUSUSA  Рік тому +2

I would advise you join our ASUS PCDIY group.
      With this noted.
      1. Undervolting is counterproductive for overclocking. All temps are not an issue with real world workloads/gaming workloads. Measuring your temps by a synthetic albeit popular from a community perspective is limiting and not sensible as you will leave considerable frequency on the floor at the expense of a thermal load that does not exist.
With this noted after you engage AiOC you have your choice to tune the VF curve via the UEFI or XTU and you can also adjust the scaling slider or temp target values.
Keep in mind the voltage curve set is model after hundreds of sample so most times you will just be introducing instability.
2.You do not need to worry about MCE it is irrelevant as you have a per core OC applied when engaging ASUS AiOC Leave it at auto.
      3. Stay tuned there will be an updated guide expanding on what was detailed in the live stream.
Best of luck with your overclocking! #MoreMHz

Geekbench can't even finish a CPU Benchmark with AI OC turned on, and that's if I don't crash/freeze in between attempts. Using a 13900k on the ASUS ROG Z790 Hero, just like you are in the video. This is really frustrating.
I'm back on default settings now - I hope there's something obvious that I'm doing wrong, but I've been at this since about December and getting this thing overclocked seems to be way more hassle than it's worth.

Consider joining our PCDIY group for more insight, keep in mind overclocking is not guaranteed but you should first vet you system at full defaults ( f5 ) your issue may not be CPU based but memory based so ensure if engaging ASUS AiOC to not enabled XMP to help to reduce the likelihood of have two factors that can lead to instability.
You also want to ensure you have updated your UEFI and MEI firmware and then re enable ASUS AiOC and check for stability, if you still have issues reduce the optimization slider as shown in the video to a value like 90.
If you are also using a mixed memory kit or have a IMC that cannot support your memory speed this could also be an issue.

I actually decided to purchase an Asus z790 Maximus hero AFTER using a gigabyte z790 aorus master. My experience with it has not been great. My cooler rating is 161 And the processor sp is 98. While aioc is pretty cool, I cannot even run the chip at stock with ANY synthetic benchmark at all and not have it thermal throttle within 30 seconds. I am going to do a fresh install of windows later today and see if it improves the performance.
So far I've updated Intel ME to the latest using the update tool on the support page. I've flashed the latest bios for the board, and I've installed all motherboard drivers. I'm at a complete loss as to why this board is running so hot. I've tested it on 2 different 13900k processors (sp 94/sp98) and both perform similarly. I've remounted the aio pump 4 times and even reoriented the 360mm rad to give the tubing more slack to see if it would help, and nothing is working. The aio is a brand new ryujin ii 360mm argb.

XMP 1 sets the timing parameters and so on according to the manufacturer of the board like asus, msi, gigabyte etc. It's a profile prepared directly for the board. Most of the time it is more stable, optimized and squeezes more performance. XMP 2 will use the parameters written on the memory (given directly from the memory manufacturer) regardless of the board. It is often used as a fallback profile due to the instability of xmp 1.

You cannot update the UEFI to improve scaling beyond a certain point you have to understand that the IMC is the limiting factor not the board topology or the UEFI firmware which while they play a part are not the largest determining factor.
4 DIMM population is alongside increased rank, density and overall population ( 4 DIMM vs 2 DIMM ) will yield worse scaling. It is not needed as DDR5 supports higher ddensity in 2 DIMM configurations.
Furthermore there is NO 4 DIMM XMP kit on the market.
We have an extensive write up/post in our PCDIY group and have covered this in multiple videos. Please join the group and read the post to understand the limitations.
In your configuration you are actually limiting your scaling by a considerable margin due to using 4 DIMMs.
As to temps they are fine and expected if you are looking at unrealistic loads, real world loads and gaming and generally productivity will be much lower. Basing your OC and temps on unrealistic stress test only has relative value for stability and even then no as AVX offsets exists alongside TVB offsets based on temp. As such your best marketer for stability and temps should be based on what you are actually running.
With all this noted if you are happy with your config keep it as is but by moving to a 2 DIMM configuration you could easily look to scale to 6800/7000MT+.

I bought an Asus gaming laptop Tuf A17 in 2021, it worked for 1 year and 6 months and stopped turning on that for quality it is expensive more than $ 1000, I wrote to the support service and they said you need to pay! and you still need to pay for repairs in half or even more than the cost of a laptop, I don’t want to take this nonsense anymore, I was going to take 3 more laptops, and I also advise my friends not to take it. I thought that due to a factory marriage, replacement and repair would be at the expense company!☹️

It's seems like Assus don't have money to buy 128GB RAM. Or am not right? 7200MHz 4DIMMS is possible only with 64GB? Can you repeate everything with 128GB RAM just to shut my mout close?
Dude, just give as config to import.

Yes, that was just a misnomer in description. All the high MT testing was on the MAXIMUS Z790 HERO.

Just recently downloaded your newest Bios for the Asus Extreme z690 Firmware (March 2023). I did it because your onscreen OLED did not work consistently on my $1200 motherboard. I regret downloading this bios when the PC otherwise worked great which also took me some time to do and it worked great for 6 months. What a mess of bios from your company and your tech support is terrible. Google me, I am a retired fortune 50 systems engineer. I have worked with thousands of PC's and millions of dollars in network gear and I am certified on more products than I care to mention. I have built PC's for 30 years for fun, and the fact that your company has techs who read off of a piece of paper and tell me to send the motherboard in, makes me never want to own another Asus product. Basically, I have spent three days now working on what the Motherboard and OS likes with absolutely no guidance or tools from your company. I have been told to re-flash numerous times along with other BS. I believe this version of the bios is no longer happy with the memory I own. I will buy another manufacturer's motherboard before I replace the memory.

The facts thats this Asus guy defends the Armoury Crate software leaves me with two possibilities: he dosent know the software or hes a liar.

Keep in mind the voltage is an adaptive voltage and based on a V/F curve it is not a fixed static VID commonly users by some users. The voltage for a stock 13900K will exceed 1.4xx ( 1.415 ) without even enabling muilti core enhancement. You can also limit the max voltage if you want via the tuning options. Regarding X3D series CPUs, ASUS alongside all AM5 motherboard manufactures have released updated UEFI BIOS builds that contain new AGESA alongside new auto rules relating to max SoC voltage. If you have further question feel free to reach out to our service and support team.

I’ve had this motherboard, RMA the 1st board due to PCB issues of the board, received a 2nd board that had the same issues but worse and had to RMA that one as well… 10 months passed and just received a full refund, Total Trash Board… Customer Service is not for the customer at all… I have a lot to say and share, I have multiple emails and correspondence with photos, plenty of data to support what I’m stating as being true… ASUS is NOT what it once was, if you get a good product then congrats but if not then you are in for a terrible experience.

Asus, do you respond on UA-cam? Cause my key cap is broken. It breaks very easily after ~2 years. Try to provide parts on your website so I can order from 🐇
I couldn't find key cap anywhere to buy for my Asus TUF Dash F15 2021 model with RTX 3070
