Episode 9: I finally opened the crankcase and removed the governor. This proved to be pretty straightforward other than not lining up the timing appropriately when I first put the gearing back in.
Considering this is the first time the motor has ever rev'd up high I shouldn't be surprised that the carb isn't happy at high rpm. I'll pull that apart and rebuild in my next video. I'm getting closer to full send with this thing.

Love the wood spacer block something I would do 😂

I originally planned to make a metal motor mount bud didn't have enough scrap. I do think I need to get lag bolts that will go all the way through the block though. I still have some trouble with the existing bolts working their way out. I'll also need a metal plate to act like a big washer so they don't pull back through the wood.

Thanks, It drives much smoother now without the 'surging' caused by the governor. Not sure why this motor surged so much compared to the original 5hp motor.

Inocente. Bastaria acelerar direto na borboleta sem nem remover o governador. Perda de tempo e muita gambiarra. Não gostei, mas assisti até o final. Sempre se aprende algo. Gilson

What horsepower tecumseh are you running? Like 8hp, 10hp? Usually the model number shows it, like HM80 HM90 HM100

I’ll double check and post back in a few days as I’d hate to guess and be wrong.

The tag on the engine says it is a Tecumseh from Sears. Engine model 143.991201. Engine family vtp358u1g2rd. Displacement 358cc. It doesn't say horsepower on the engine itself but the snowblower that donated it for parts called it a 13hp.

Vermont Life awesome, I’ll give it a try then. That’s how I found your channel though. Love projects like this so I subscribed and “rung the bell” as everyone calls it. 👍🏻

With a hearing change I’m sure it could. It has a 12tooth jackshaft to 55tooth wheel mounted sprocket for a ratio of 4.58. That gives it the torque which is nice for trail riding. I bet if I came down to a ratio of 3 I would still have good torque and more top end considering the motor has 350cc’s or so.
