- I decided my 5hp Tecumseh could stand for a governor delete to see how fast the go kart could really go. I managed to get through it all without cratering the engine! Hope you enjoy.

Best advice I can give for removing the pin in the center of the governor gear is to grab the tip of the pin in a table vise and use a dead blow or rubber mallet to knock it slowly out of the cover. The end of the pin is splined and so trying to twist and pull it out usually just causes slipping and scarring of the pin itself. I fought this same battle last week. P.I.T.A.
Getting that thing out took freakin' forever. Good call on the bench vise!
Thanks! Have been trying to figure out how to get the old gear out for replacement. Gear is only $12 and it's on a snowblower, so I sort of need the governor.

This is where Id say use a rotary dremel tool it would save you time. Good video I am going to remove mine soon. I am subscribed on cars and cameras. I have yet to see them do a Tecumseh governor removal. Thanks for the upload, anyway.

You can leave the gear on but take the arm off that's what pushes on the gear and slows it down
Why not just disconnect the linkage to the carburetor allow thus mechanism to function but it will have no effect on the throttle if the linkage isn’t connected. Right or wrong ?
Well if he did that then he would not have made a video showing us how to take a governor off. The video he made helped me with my engine.
You DON'T want to leave the governor Gear on the shaft without the Spool installed. The Governor Weights will Spin out and CATCH inside the case and Tear the gear teeth off the governor Gear!
I know its been 5 years but i could just use a Dremel to cut off the pin?
The black gear is the camshaft
So I removed the governor on the exact same engine and when I start the engine it runs and doesn't stop? What's the solution? I connected a metal wire to the throttle but nothing works. Could you explain it or possibly make a video?
It runs full throttle? Or you have no way of stopping it?
@@LukesAmateurHour Not necessarily full throttle but when I start the engine the wheel spins fast and the engine runs by itself it doesn't idle at all it's like I'm pressing on the pedal
It sounds like your Governor is out of Adjustment. There is a way to Static Adjust.

I’m pretty sure it’s just the carburetor cause my tecumseh does the same thing, I’ve seen people put predator carburetor on them and they perform much better

hey I know it's been a long time but I have just rebuilt the exact same engine in this video and can't seem to get the timing right. Do you think you could take off the crankcase cover and show me where your timing marks meet? Ive looked everywhere online and cant find anything on that. This would help me out a bunch so I dont have to buy a new motor. Thank you and I hope to hear from you. :)

I did this just a moment ago and took me 5 minutes it was two clips holding the governor on so just clicked those out and up n out it come instead of grinding it of

I have a brand new never used 2007 Tecumseh 5.5 snow-king on my go kart, So I will not remove the governor,
But I just realized I have another older crappier 5hp snow-king I'm going to remove that governor and run it,
If it dies no biggie, Plus I will have a better understanding of what it can handle.
Should of just bypassed by using a wire on the outside and connecting to the throttle plate preventing the governor from engaging!
Then the the plastic governor will tear up inside smh

Why didn’t you show how you hook up throttle
I've got a 6 horsepower motor and I'm can't find a video on how to hook the Throttle , driving me crazy.
You should never take the governor off. If you want more speed, get your different axle.
I used my grinder & cut the shaft below the gear
Too many lock rings & they Re are super small
Shave head and Vance springs
All u had to do was take a flat head and a hammer and hit it and it will come right off

Bro don't smoke before you mechanic if you don't do this much .my wrenches feed me and my family and I'm 3rd generation mechanic so i know first hand what a missed bolt or nut or thrush bearing can do lol but if your having to write this 15 minute process down you smokin and no disrespect I and my wife do as well but take care of that motor and it will rip forever
