I used the samsung s8 today ro demo some of these features and I didn't realize that I was in DEX the entire time! It was such a nice environment to work in. Just like a touch screen laptop. I am so stoked for my s9 ultra!

Normaly to start dex, you can just swipe from the top of the screen down to all of the normal settings, like wifi/Bluetooth, there will be a button to start dex
I wish Dex was usable directly on the Fold series screen. Even though OneUI is very well optimised for tables, sometimes Dex would be easier in some cases, especially with the S-Pen.

Saki, I currently have the Tab S7+, and I also have the book cover keyboard. The cover I have also has a spot on the back for the s-pen that came with the tablet. It holds it in place nicely.

There is nothing the s9 series can do that the s8 cannot.
My ultimate Android/Samsung Dex wishlist...Davinci Resolve and Reaper (audio DAW). Dex can also be sent to a display wirelessly and most Samsung phones have Dex. The idea of having a phone in my pocket that runs "full" desktop software transmitting wirelessly to a display nearby...game changer. EDC would be my phone, folding pocket keyboard, small pocket mouse...absolute game changer.
DeX is brilliant. Is there any way to customise the icons whilst in DeX mode though? It would be great to pack in smaller, more numerous icons.
The more icons you have on the lower quick pannel the smaller they look. 😊
You can also change the scale of the screen, and the icons will become smaller.

In every country there's a different promotion. I am living in Germany and they offer differently, there's no free book cover and kind of expensive. I checked france and Switzerland and both of them have the offer of free book cover with keyboard. So, I ordered in France and I used someone's address to get it haha. So, you have to be wise on buying it. :P I ordered S9 ultra with 1TB. Can't wait. My first tablet I own. :)

I pre-ordered the 1TB version directly from Samsung yesterday and did not get a free keyboard. They wanted $99 for the slim, and $349 for the regular. I guess they said 🖕 to America.
Yeah last year in the US if you pre ordered the tab s8ultra you got the key board cover case free. I guess this year they are offering it other countries. Also this year the only versionwith 16gb ram is the 1tb as where last year the 512 cae with 16. I did get an amazing deal and i will be replacing my tab s8u simply because the snap 8 gen 2. Its a game changer in effiencey and battery will be even better and so will editing and creative tasks. This should last me about three years this time around. I dont see much else they can add except a higher resolution display at this point.

@dudejunks I had the s22u and the s23u is night and day in smoothness and battery life was game changer. Thats one of the other reason i decided to make the jumo to the s9u. If this is your first time with a tab then you are in for a treat my friend. I had a 12.9 ipad pro and sold it because of the versatility and display of the tab s series. You can get a foldable magnetic stand and a nice bluetooth mini key board and mouse and its a dream. I got the samsung bluetooth key board and mouse on amazon for cheap and it hooks up to everything up to 3 devices which is nice. I also got magnetic stand which the tab s8u fits right into and its an absolute dream. And when i travel i slap on the keyboard cover case. If you download nova launcher on this beast you can pretty much design it however you want since oddly enough the samsung theme store isnt on the tablets for some reason. Good luck. Also down load good lock which is an official samsung app that allows you to further customize your device including your phone.
Yeah, US residents are still getting shafted. No 5G/LTE option and lack of a back-lit keyboard (even if not bundled for free) for the Ultra. Still buying it anyway (as my first Android tablet) for the Dex feature, AMOLED x2 display and IP68.
@youmeme90 the tabs8 ultras keyboard cover is back lit I have it. I suppose we can't always get stuff for free but I did get a discount on it for 250 and I'll have this one for atleast 3 years I hope, as long as the new Shiney tech bug doesn't get to me. Also as far as a 5g variation your carrier might have them. But I believe the s9ultra supports esim so when it gets in I'll let you know. That's a nice feature so it doesn't have to be carrier locked if this to be true.
Samsung's S series tablets have gotten so good that, next year, when my Google support hits 5 years, I'm gonna scrap my Chromebook for this beast!
Wondering when microsoft will let office apps in android or ios with full features like pivot table like in windows or mac. If that features available, more people will move to tablets.

They need to add lights to their keyboards make them a back-lit keyboard that would be awesome ill pay extra if they offer options one with and one without.. if you want a back-lit keyboard you need to buy a 3rd party bluetooth keyboard..

Should look at the Lenovo Tab Extreme. As a lot of the same things that that Samsung Tab has and some other unique functions like display in and out, so can be a second monitor. Pen and keyboard included.

I've seen someone use the keyboard from the S8 which is cheaper. It said it wasn't compatible but it still worked.
Samsung should have added the always on display. Other companies put it on their tablets.

Yes you can. I have the Tab s6 and i use it in dex every day. hit the power off button. when you turn it on it comes back in that mode. he also doesn't show that the pull down menu has a dex button. so it is super simple to get to dex compared to what he is showing.

I shifted to using Apple products years ago because it's what my client uses for work and integration of the iOS apps are just seamless. However, I would like to convert from iPad to Tab S9 and I want to know if this tablet can be used as an external monitor for my Laptop Pc if connected thru USB C-Thuderbolt? My other work is a Windows based ecosystem but they have strict limitations on peripherals. It would be a huge deal-maker for me if it is! Thanks!

Samsung branded tablets aren't the only ones that have a desktop mode. Lenovo tablets have it as well. E.g, Lenovo P11 Pro Gen 2

I have both S8 and S8 Ultra and S8 Ultra is a mistake. It is just too big and too limiting. I really hope Samsung revive Ubuntu on Dex soon.
the Ultra is more of a laptop replacement and you have to use it on a desk. I have the S8+ and it's this strange middle ground... not as nice to hold and use as an 11" but not as big as a laptop to use on a desk.
I agree about limiting though, Android needs some better apps and to not kick everything out of ram so quickly.

No.1 performance snapdragon chips didn't even touch the power of Apple m serices silicons.
No 2. Lack of powrful/ pc level productivity apps.
Because ipads with m chips are so power full so they can have some of the pc lvl softwares like adobe photoshop(premium version, the playstore version of photoshop is photoshop express that does not came with all of the features)
So samsung should have many productivity apps in their galaxy store(a section for only apps for galaxy tabs).

Agree, I do have the Apple iPad Pro 12inch bought it only for 1 reason, Affinity Photo and Designer. I prefer the Samsung ecosystem over the Apple, if it is light editing I use the Tab S7+ with Snapseed, but if I need to edit with more advance tools like masking, I will use the iPad Pro with Affinity Photo.
I agree. And for people into music production, ios has far far many more high quality offerings.
That being said, ios is turning into a subscription dystopia, especially with those "PC level apps."
And I refuse to go down the subscription blackhole. I'll gladly sell my iPad before I do that.

Samsung ought to just have Dex running Linux.
Dex is pretty good as a "desktop like" interface but it's still Android.

You can do this on an iPad Pro its called stage manager up to eight app separate apps running at the same time and full external screen expansion. You can argue its not as good as Dex but it does the same thing

You do need to buy the keyboard separately, but the pen comes with it.

I had the Samsung Tab S3, S4 currently own the tab S7+, and now I have purchased the Tab S9 Ultra. I also own and using the Samsung S23 Ultra, previously S21, Note 10+, Note 20 Ultra. In all the devices I had in past and current, I hardly use DEX mode. I switched it on couple of times, and I found it nothing interesting to be hyped over - after all it is still a Samsung Android platform just with another look. As far as multi-tasking, not all apps multi-task properly. Yes you can watch a video while writing an email, but I have noticed one particular application (MT4) while it is open in the background it pauses, it does not update market rates until I actually switch over to the app as the main focus.
Despite that I still prefer the Samsung Galaxy system tablets and mobiles over any other device..
The size of this tablet is perfect for a folding tablet. 7 inches closed and 14 inches opened.

Literally what's the point of Dex at this point? Main goal of Dex years ago was to achieve a more "desktop-like" OS experience, but it's 2023 and Android tablets ALREADY provide us a "desktop-like" experience.
So what's the goal of Dex in those tablets? Can it run desktop applications? Photoshop? Lightroom? No? Not a single one? Then what exactly Dex has that Android (for tablets) doesn't? Better multitasking? Android already got that, "desktop-like" interface? Android already got that. Sure, Dex is still nice in smartphones, but I honestly can't think of a single feature that Dex adds to the Android tablet experience.
Also the whole "NO OTHER TABLET CAN DO IT 😱😱" thing so funny, there's literally tablets with Widows out there my dude and while Dex is basically Android cosplaying a real desktop OS, windows IS a real desktoo OS.

Foes anyone know if I can use gps on the s9 ultra? I drive in the field a lot and use google earth tonsee where I am with a work kmz showing... I wantedbto get the s9 on another carrier so when my phone is not getting service I can try another network on my tablet... anyone know if gps will work?
