This video covers a lot of ground and introduces the races of giants that will be getting more in depth, individual videos, later in this remastered Giants Series, for the forgotten realms and the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game.

Hey guys, this is part 3 of the series to remake the Giants videos. Improving sound quality, updating lore, etc, etc... Defiantly worth a look at if you have not already seen the other remakes, covering the History of the Giants and their Gods in more depth. Links below.
Did I miss anything that you would like to see linked? Lots of good adventures out there for Giants. Of course there is the classic of Against the Giant, updated in Tales from the Yawning Portal, and then Storm King's Thunder. Do you have some good stories about facing down Giants, either as allies or enemies? Comment down below and lets get this discussion going!

3 a.m. in Portland, Oregon here. I'm knee deep in the spirit world via Psilocybes Cyanescens and I can't put my finger on it so I'll just say it the best I can: You present a subject without condescension, contrivances, or pretension while maintaining the facade of a reliable narrator in a fantasy setting. It's like you've been there. A real-life Volo.
This man gets it. Very well said.
I also live in Portland and concur.
Gotta love the fact that Giant's history, mythology and pantheon is messy like real pantheons
The last time I was this early giants still ruled the earth.
And now it's everyone's favorite show, living with Anam!
Bill: Anaaaam! Why is my car pregnant?!
*canned laughter*
Anam: Your car gets around dude...
*canned laughter and clapping*
Bill: Anaaaam! You owe Othea like three world's worth of souls in back child support!
*canned oooohs*
Anam: Oh come on like half those kids aren't even mine.
*canned laughter*
Bill: Anam... where is my wheel of cheese... it's been missing for like nine months...
Anam: ... I dunno...
*canned laughter*
Squelching sounds from closet: Ffpphhhaaathherrrr...
*canned screams*
5:00 Omg I love this art so much, happy giant just hanging out with some kids, thats so wholesome

Hope you had a great christmas @AJ Pickett, and have a great new years as well :)
Thank you Zasek, you to!
I dont know why but I love Ogres, Ettins, and Hill Giants more than any of the other giant kins
Great discussion. Giants are some of my favorite monster types in the Realms. I think the Ordning is a cool idea (though, sadly not used to its full potential, but that's what homebrew is for), I love the idea of an ancient feud between Giants and Dragons, and I enjoy the sheer variety of Giants, even if there are a couple individuals I don't much care for (e.g. why the monstrous Ettins are Giants and not Giantkin or Hill Giants, which feel redundant with Ogres and don't have the elemental properties most of the other True Giants have). Still, these are really, really cool.
Fantastic news! My sister and brother in law found a Rick and Morty D&d set, the perfect present to convert my friends back home. In the name of Gygax, I compel thee!
I have heard it is a very good product.
That is some super rich lore. Thank you as always for posting this incredible content. You could run whole campaigns off the information from a few videos you put out.
Is this an accurate representation of what chaotic neutral looks like?;
_”I’ll tell you that there are traps. I won’t tell you where they are, just that there are traps.”_
Yes
You'd think that Gods would practice pulling out, when they're having 'affairs' ;)
It's amazing d&d respects the old stories of yore better than most scholars. I can imagine how much fun H.P. Lovecraft had with thinking of extremely ancient beings listening to this.
I've heard Vaprak and Othea's "affair" was a little bit less than consensual on Othea's part.
(Insert Wilson Fisk style dialogue) When I was a boy I thought Dragons were the best fantasy monster in DnD, now as a man I know it’s the Giants.
Thanks AJ! I’m starting to see just how cool the Unearthed Arcana for the Rune Knight is. ‘Wrath of Fallen Ostoria’ indeed!
That reminds me, what is your favorite UA that you hope will be added to the d&d canon soon?
The psychic stuff.
Would be great to hear more on the Goliath Gods.
Damn. So just like real pre-history, i will have to settle on best guesses. Just like Gobekli Tepe.
Thanks for the detailed analysis AJ!
Thank you for this. I kept screaming for a voadkyn video, but never knew they were true giants.....hope to hear more in this
Great video and awesome expansion to your last video AJ. My favorite giant-kin to add are the wood ones. In my last campaign where I had them, the PC party left the human-dominated area to solve the wood giant problem. They ended up speaking to wood giant leaders after a while and took the giants' side over that of the forest-unfriendly humans.
Fun fact, a whole community in ancient Netheril got accidentally transformed into Wood Giants due to a magical mishap.
@@AJPickett That would suck for all the non-vegetarians. Imagine a tasty steak suddenly not being tasty, smells foul, and does not really digest well if you can swallow it without wretching. Poor ancient Nethreil people...
Thank you for inspiration for my next Monster Mash submission. I couldn’t decide what type of creature to do next until I watched this and I haven’t done a Giant yet.
That pic of the white, topless giant is by Cary Nord, from the newer Conan from Dark Horse comics, a very cool retelling of the familiar tales.
Yeah! Good spotting.
Fee-fi-fo-fum which one of you is not my son
Oh god
Oh no!, the dreaded "plate mail" 😢
Hey AJ firstly absolutely loving your content; I was wondering if you could consider adding the names of specific subjects within the video, either onscreen as they come up or as a list in the video blurb (maybe timestamped if you love extra work :P)? I am so inspired often to use the lore in my games and having the correct spelling would really help in my research.
Good idea. I did add the chart during the vid with the names of all of Annam's and Otheas children listed, if that helps? its at 5:11
@@AJPickett yes that list is rather extensive thank you, ill be hanging out for the next video for the "Vadekin"? wood giants, keep up the amazing work!
Another dope video, dude! Just a suggestion but there isnt really a lot of information online about blood mages. Hemomancey seems like a fascinating field of study.
Kobold Press has a number of magical expansion books I will be taking a look at in the not too distant future.. blood magic included.
Great work AJ. You even mentioned the newbie giants from MM3! Technically there were some similar giants in MM2 (Sun, Ocean, and Mountain), but they aren't particularly interesting. Your treatment of the giants has taught me just how rich the Forgotten Realms lore for giants really is, and the magnitude of Annam All-Father's power. If he returned to active participation in the affairs of the Realms, would he even have to listen to Ao? That's amazing! Annam All-Father and the Lady of Pain are the only two beings I can think of that could sass Ao and get away with it. XD
Annam, Father of Sass.
I always thought ogres were the result of giants going to sweet home, Alabama.
May I introduce ye here to ma cousin, uncle daddy.
AJ Pickett Oh my god XD
Be a good brother be like Stronmaus
Ack, those blue cow-men Volo calls Firbolg give me conniptions.
I just assume they are some offshoot of true Firbolgs, they both exist on the world, by the Firbolg player characters are like... half hobbits... to the rest of the Firbolgs. "Oh, those little hippies in the lowlands ... mmph!"
@@AJPickett I think they've spent a bit too much time in the Feywild, so they came back out looking like they lost a fight with a Warner Bros animator
@@Mare_Man Oh... the new Thundercats cartoon.. dear gods.
@@AJPickett Odd that you noted how different they look from their lore, yet your picture for the Verbeeg was literally art for the half-ogre. In all editions which had them officially, the art for Verbeeg look like big, balding humans. I myself love the new Firbolg design and think it sets them apart from verbeeg, goliath, and really tall humans.
Learn DnD lore to crack open World of Warcraft Secret
(as we all know how they copy/mixed all mythos into their lore)
Is that a Caduceus Clay cameo I see?

I believe so.
I always wondered how Trolls fit into Giant genealogy. Figures they’d come from some degenerate giant stock.
Intro song?
Nice.
🎵they might be giants, oh boy🎵

*OH HELLO THERE!*
I don’t know about giant, but the Daytona 500 is a pretty big race.
I could see fire giants being HEAVILY into building mad max style hot rods using captured infernal war machines and their own mastery of metalwork, alchemy and rune magic. RUST to RODS, AVERNUS OFF ROAD!
Desert giants are slowly turning to stone due to a divine curse!
Considering that's your interpretation of the Goliath origin (or at least your preferred one and honestly I cant knock it) I'm guessing you don't care much for the Goliath pantheon presented in Races of Stone? (personally they're one of my favorite pantheons and I'm still salty they aren't in 5e)
There is no reason the goliath can't have their own pantheon and have a giantish origin. Myths and legends, religions and gods are integral to a race's culture just as much as anything else.
Goliaths have a pantheon! Plz tell me where i can find it, im plating a goliath and i want to give the race good representation.
@@thecourtjester2610 Like I mentioned above the book is a 3.5 book called Races of Stone and it includes a lot of cool info on gnomes and dwarves as well. It's actually where Goliaths premiered too! You should be able to access the pdf online for free and a website or two may have it.

So in 5e the Firbolg are cut off from the Ordning and are active enemies of the true giants. Has this not always been the case?
It's complicated, there is a big story arc and War in the far north involving Othea and Annam's last child... Hartkiller.
But what about the Jungle and Reef giants?
Kinda funny when it comes to the height chart being the basis of the Ordening, but then there are Giant-Kin who can be taller than some of the shorter Giants.
Frost Trolls were actually huge, bigger than some of the smaller giants.
They sure are!
Just how much did that mountain get around? And who's attracted to a mountain?
Where they into her HUGE... (0)(0) ...tracts of land or something?
Great video! Since you did something big think you small like the halflings?
I've put them on my To-Do list
@@AJPickett thanks can't.
Aren't there also beach giants or am I mistaken?
Reef giants, Zakhara has some unique giant populations there.
@@AJPickett Ok thank you can't wait for the vid on them
Reef giants
There are more giant breeds than there are plants and insect life in the amazon rain forest.
Wouldn't be surprised if more new breeds spring forth. Cyclorpses would be a new hybrid resulting from an orc and cyclops.
Sick
But when is the live show?
Did you watch the last one? Next Year my dude.
No I didn't catch it. Why not putting the time somewhere? Could put it in the dooblydoo to the previous one. I think last week it wasn't on the same day of the week
@@mrl9418 Thank you, that is an excellent idea!
Loved your lore video man drop you a sub
Much appreciated!

Um, I thought Obadhai was a nature deity... or am remembering something from a D&D Movie...?
Not a D&D player yet but he could be both a nature and a giant deity.
Obad-hai is a Greyhawk nature god
AJ Pickett so he’s both a Nature deity and a giant deity?
@@sirwilliam4128 forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Obadai different spelling
AJ Pickett so, Obadai [oʊbædaɪ] vs. Obad-hai [oʊbædhaɪ] ...?

Wait, you're saying people don't seem to understand the difference between mythology and history... would never have guessed that from anyone. Well, except humans all over the world.
LOL, did I accidentally say something controversial again?
*RELIGION*
Beyond the fact that you are a devil worshiping, satanic spell throwing, evil D&D person looking to corrupt the innocent masses of the world...
No, I just found that statement humorously (or maybe not humorous) a little too true.
Anyone else hear banjo music during the troll section? . . . Yikes
Ps. 20:32 Jesus Christ!
Pps. 21:14 Caduceus!😀
Midgets, huh, hm, not sure I'd use it neither to describe the firbolgs nor in general, with all due respect for the humor and to you
No offence intended, sorry if I did cause any.

if goliath are from hartkiller then they are true giants ?
