Its incredible that as a non-native speaker, she can not only speak fluently, but switch accents in English! Those who have attempted languages will know how difficult that is!

she probably could have played Jyn Erso. either way, she's going to be the next Lara Croft, not Star Wars, but still a pretty big franchise, high expectations and they couldn't have chosen a better candidate

I think she uses the British accent now because it makes her more marketable for "prestige" films from US studios. Think of the insanely huge success of British actors in the past few years. I don't think it makes her fake, in fact I think its pretty damn clever. And in the end both her American and British accents are equally artificial, as English is not her mother tongue.
I really like her and want her to be a big thing. The trend of loud, obnoxious, minimally talented actors is annoying.

+Colorless green ideas sleep furiously. as another non-native english speaker who has it as a second language, my accent constantly changes, and I see the same happening to friends who also have english as a second language. Most times is because you try to speak in a very articulate manner, but also it is very easy to accidentally pick up an accent when you have been hearing it for a long time. Sometimes I sound American, or British, and occasionally I end up sounding Australian. All depends on who I speak with.

I am Spanish but speak 5 languages. Sometimes is a matter of adaptation. You just want to do your best in all circumstances. That's it!
She actually lived in England for a long time trying to make a break in film. Probably where it's from. Like anyone else who moves to another country for a long amount of time.

geemachine666 She lives in England and has an English accent normally, my guess is that she was filming something she needed an American accent for and was keeping it during the interview so it didn't slip.

+Nicole Chow haha well here in sweden you only have an accent if you are kinda bad at English. We consider knowing the English language as not having a swedish accent. We learn british English in school but are influenced by american English via tv and movies.
