12 years ago, I made this suggestion to Futaba...a video on "How to set up the transmitter". Futaba said "No". This is why I switched to Spektrum because it is more user friendly. Not trying to start a Ford vs Chevy argument...just saying what happened back then.
20+ years ago i was do or die futaba. Did NOT want spektrum! Started flying again with a dx6e. (Then nx6, nx8 & now nx10). Only reason i went spektrum cause HH planes included rx's. Now, 2ish yrs later, nx10 & AR620 rx's. I dont like ANY reciever that limits what im doing. (Point being, yesterday i removed the safe rx from my extra 300. It was impossible to hover. After putting my ar620 in, retrimming, on that same battery i was hovering 4" off the runway. Ill keep my dumb (spektrum! 👍) recievers!
@@old-rcplane-phart I love my Spektrum AR636 AS3X/SAFE receivers. I know how to program them to do what I want. I had to help a club member with his new 18 channel Futaba the other day. I’ve never seen anything as unfriendly as it, not even OpenTX..
Hi BD .As usual you have great How To videos !!! Question.....would you recommend using this method over the "Elevator / Flap Mix on the Fly" video ? which one gives you the best results> thanks!
Hey Aiden, i prefer the "Elevator / Flap Mix on the Fly" method. Allows for a smooth elevator transition with the flaps. Both adjust at the same speed. Flight modes cause a instant change. Also keeps all flap related values in the flap system menu...
BD, Is there a way to set up amix on my nx10 to operate the retract/open servo on my powered glider, using the throttle stick to open and close the motor retract servo and advance the throttle?
Just seen your other video on flight modes, and you're a genius . I think it has sunk in. What you've done on this video, will it work in conjunction with the flap systems ? In other words my flaps are on switch F. Can I still put flight modes on switch F as well? Would love to set the trim in flight rather than static in flap systems
BD, I watch your channel a lot and figured you are the person to ask. Do you know if the is a audio event for reverse thrust? Like Forward & Reverse Trust? I can’t find in the list. Or is there a way to create one on all the Specktrum series transmitters? Thank you in advance BD!!!🙏👍
The manufacturer of my (Heron) glider recommends the following settings: Ailerons up 24mm, down 12mm and flaps +2mm /- 2mm Can you make a mix of these on the NX8+?
Once the operator changes the settings from the default (5 Common) to F Mode in TRIM SETUP, doesn't that hinder or eliminate the ability to trim the model when the flaps are retracted (up) or in a flight mode where flaps aren't being used? I use a 3 pos switch for FM 1 (OFF), FM 2 (AS3X+), & FM 3 (AS3X+ @ SAFE). If I assign a different switch to operate flaps and reset the trim default to F Mode, if I'm in FM 3 without the use of flaps, won't that eliminate the ability to use normal transmitter trims? Help me understand what I'm confused about. Thanks 🤪
No because flaps up is another flight mode,in this case its Flight Mode 1.Flight mode allows separate trims for different modes and independently. Flight modes for AS3X is different than Flight Modes for trim...
@@BDTennessee in this case, do I not use the elevator trim in the flap setup menu or just control flap to elevator trim using your method? Transmitter trims and not set in the flap configuration menu?
Elevator trim adjustment in flap system can be used in conjunction with Flight mode trim. (Example: -15% elevator and -15% flight mode is -30%). Another option is to use elevator trim thats in owners manual for starting point and fine tune from there. Lastly use Flight mode to trim every flight mode independently.
I think you mentioned it, but F Mode Trim should really only be used with ailerons to compensate for any unevenness with the flaps. Any elevator adjustment I would make in the Flap system settings. That allows the flaps and elevator to move to the new position in sync, especially if the flaps are slowed down. If you do set it for all surfaces, just remember that they are separate. Easy to put in a little rudder trim in one mode expecting it to be there in all modes. You gave me the idea for using R Knob in a mix R Knob > ELE for adjusting the elevator to find best position for different flap configurations. I have expanded on that and have started using it on planes without flaps. Allows me to dial in up elevator. I can reduce throttle and increase up elevator to find a nice slow speed while holding altitude. I can slowly reduce throttle from there and can get the smoothest landings. On the NX10, other than obvious things, color screen, wifi updates, etc., have you found anything that really makes it worth upgrading? Currently with DX8G2. Sliders might be nice instead of using the knob for doing some of these mixes. How easy are they to control with any precision? I have the InterLink controller with RealFlight. They are pretty difficult to control effectively.
I always wanted the nx10, even when it had bad reviews on horizon. This past Christmas, i got it as MY Christmas gift to ME! I came from the nx8. Id jump all over a new iX12, but! HH has a new NX10se. Save that extra $250 & get yourself another plane 🤷. Only difference is orange bling u can buy on Amazon for $30 + grips, another $30 & a foam case ($50.00 at HH). DONT SCRIMP on tx case!!! Get something metal to protect your $500+ investment! My best buddy got my nx8 after i got my 10. He loves it. He loves mine a lot more. Just the feel of it & accuracy of everything.
Yes i mentioned only really trim needs to be done is roll for uneven flaps. Also talk about the instant change in flight mode compared to flap/elevator mix. Video i made awhile back talking about using L/R trim (NX8 and NX10) in flight and then transferring to flap system, is same thing and i prefer that as well. Oh yeah that works implemented the knob.I think we talked about that and good stuff too :) NX is the way to go over DX if funds allowed. Sometimes when im helping others it makes me think about how much i like using NX all around. Sliders have notches so can be controlled fairly well but not as smooth or linear as the dial. Using NX on RF is a plus as well. You get same feel/muscle memory from Sim to Flying Field.
Hi BD, what are the R Trim and L trim buttons thare are near the very top of the radio on both sides? They are slanted diagonally. They are located near the D and E switches.... I am flying Helis, so what do these buttons do???
Hi BD. I know you are very busy answering questions and everything else. I have a question if you could answer at your conveinece. I am using the NX8 TX and I set it up as you described. D/R 100%, 85%, 70% etc, etc. I set up my own airplanes with your settings. Aeroscout and a P51 in my TX. I'm using the RF 9.5s simulator. So if i select a 300 or Thunderbolt and I would have to use my P51 model to select on the NX8, what parameters am I using? The plane from the RF simulator or the P51 NX8 . They do handle differently.the 300 rolls way faster than the P51. Just want to know how the 300 is going to react out at the airfield. Hope I got that through. Confusses me looking at it. Have yet to find anyone on UA-cam to clearly say in 1 sentence what a flight mode is. On my DX6e I have assigned switches to do clever mixes. I have used the flap system to give a tad of down with the flaps - but I still haven't used a flight mode. What am I missing? Is a flight mode a combination of instructions like, throw a switch and bomb doors open as flaps deployed with a hand full of up trim? If just 1 instruction, stick with a switch? Help
I set my spoken flight modes so that it displays what the voice says, e.g., "Flaps Up", "Takeoff Flaps", and "Landing Flaps". If you want to clear the displayed phrase, leave the cursor on the first letter and press the Clear button. Now you need to do a video showing how to create a custom category named "BD Tennessee" and put the phrases in it that you use the most often. Then you wouldn't have to scroll all over the place looking for what you want it to say.

When the flap servos are on a Y-harness, there’s no way to adjust out any differences in their movement. And it’s not that it rolls; it just doesn’t fly perfectly straight. There’s nothing wrong with using a bit of aileron trim to compensate for a slight difference in the flaps. I’ve never had to use it for yaw. I like using f-mode trim for the elevator because I can adjust it in the air, unlike the mix in the flap system menu where you have to use trial and error. Also, I adjust my linkages so that my trims are as close to center as possible. If your trims aren’t centered, neither are your servos.

If your airplane rolls or yaws when you extend the flaps you have bigger problems than trim.
