This incident is going to be used for many clickbait thumbnails to come. I expect to see many "TOP TEN ACCIDENTS AT DISNEY WORLD THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT!!!!" videos in the near future.
I really hope they replace the head (that appears to be the only damage largely) and bring her back, fire and all. Sometimes these things happen no matter how many checks and ticks you do in daily maintenance. Nobody was hurt, it was dealt with swiftly and she's been running for a long time without incident. So please keep her, she's the best float!
Oh this is so sad, I’ve always thought of the dragon as the best and most impressive part of the parade. Hope the guys who control her are ok, I don’t think it’ll be back though.
I know folks tend to get triggered by vertical video, but I think there are times for it, and this is one of them. Like a tall comic book panel, sometimes it's better to fit what you can into the frame. From where the first person was standing, if they had it landscape, the float would have taken up about 1/3rd of the frame, cutting off either the top or bottom as well. In portrait mode, it captures more of what's actually happening. Now, after being transferred to YT for a landscape vid, the portrait vid feels clunky. Sometimes it's even better to always shoot portrait mode, such as for Facebook vids since many folks actually browse FB on their phones in portrait mode (who browses in landscape mode on a phone?). I think in 10 years this will be less of an issue when people realize how video is changing. TVs aren't viewed in portrait mode, but phones often are.
I see the vertical video as being zoomed in too much that why I think horizontal would have be better, you’d get a more overall view of what was happening.
I honestly think we’ll see an effect again. Maybe not real fire, but something innovative and just as fun and impressive. That said the way the float burned and how the cast members handled it looks like they had safety protocols in place and had their act together, it speaks very well of the team on staff that day and I hope they’re all commended for how well they did protecting guests and getting the fire out.
Goldendino14 It was probably a technical error regarding the fuel. I'm at the park today, and the high is 94° F, so maybe the heat had something to do with it
Come on people. You think a worn hose or o ring couldn't have caused this? Think back to 1986. Probably not temp or human error, just worn parts over time.
If people were to remove things just for something going wrong, there would literally be nothing left in the park. Everything has incidents. It just needs updated. Maleficent has been there for at least 4 years and the parts are probably just worn. I hope they bring it back. A lot of people find this to be their favorite float.
Dang, that's awful, that was an impressive float. I'd hope they would rebuild it but they'd probably want to change whatever system they were using for the dragon to breathe fire. Isn't there a duplicate of this in Paris?
This is such a tragedy for dragonlovers!!! They MUST rebuild this BIGGER and BETTER!!! It was 90 percent of the reason I even watched any of the parades as a local passholder from 2014 to 2017.
"Fire cannot kill a dragon" *FWOOSH* "FIRE HAS KILLED THIS DRAGON--!" In all seriousness, though, that's one hell of a mishap to happen, hope Maleficent Recovers from the massive burn she's given herself (as in, I hope the float gets fixed proper after this), this is one of my favorites of the Festival of Fantasy, from the look and the music segment it accompanies
I remember seeing the parade for the first time when I was 15 and like I thought the dragon was so freakin cool, so I’d be sad to see it go... But dang, it kinda looked cool when it was burning. Thank goodness everybody was safe though.
I remember getting news of that while watching infinity war with my friends at the theater. (My phone was on silent and I put my screens light on the lowest setting so I wasn't disturbing anyone) I remember watching this parade in January and just loving this dragon, sad that it might not return
I don't think they won't let it breathe fire again if they fix the float. I expect they will have a detailed look at the mechanism and maybe do some changes here and there, but this seems like a technical error, and could have happen anywhere where pyrotechnics are used. So yeah, I expect that if they fix the float it will breathe fire again eventually. But it was weird to see this indeed.
I sincerely hope they rebuild this float and restore the fire-breathing aspect of it. I'm sure it was a terrifying experience, but once they dismantle the head and determine what caused the malfunction, they (hopefully), can know how to keep something like this from happening again. With the float being 4 years old and this happening very suddenly, I'm hopeful that they'll weigh the pros and cons and decide to rebuild it with the fire portion. I've had the privilege to see this parade a dozen times since its debut and every time I smile at the reactions of first-time viewers as Maleficent rears up and a plume of fire shoots from her mouth. If they choose not to reinstall the fire, I won't be surprised but I know the parade just won't be quite the same without it.
I worked on as a Main Street CM as parade audience control and I normally got put on liberty bridge, and OF COURSE my first week working at Figment and something exciting happens lol
I don’t think that she’ll breathe fire again but I am so thankful that I saw her do it last time i visited lol. I got a text in school from a friend saying that she saw it on the news or something 😂
I don't think it will be gone for good, however, I think that they might suspend a lot of fire elements now that this has happened -- at least for a short while. I wonder if they will take away the fire effect from Murphy (Maleficent) in Fantasmic, or in the Jack-Jack figure in the Pixar Play Parade while they try to figure out the malfunction here and prevent it from other things. I don't think that it will be completely gone though.
This was one of my favorite Disney floats I hope they re build it breathing fire or not I hope they rebuild it if not I’m happy I got to see it so many times before this happened
The second time it happened was on April 22 2023 on Tom Sawyer island at Disneyland in a show called "Fantasmic". The fire started around the dragon's head and then spread to its body and along its neck, according to a tik tok video.
I'd guess they simply drove it to backstage, the main motor is in the body which was not affeceted, so once the fire was out, the driver would get back in and drive it with the rest of the parage stuck behind it following.
I heard from a cast member the cause of the fire was due to air getting into a fuel line. Maleficent is still in a coma and is still getting cosmetic surgery to repair the damage.
I think the float will be back, it has appeared a lot in their commercials so not having it would be an issue as for it breathing fire that may be a different case. I could see it going either way however if it does breath fire you know they are going to inspect it with more care then before.
As someone who has never been to WDW and can only see what happens vis internet (we got to Disneyland), I must say I wouldn't be surprised if Maleficent joined Spectromagic. Maybe if she comes back, no fire.
This has been a cursed year it seems for Disney animatronics. First the Ursula one losing it's head, now the Maleficent float catching fire. At least there's 2 positives. 1 No one's been injured or hurt and 2 At least it happened with villain characters so it's hopefully less traumatizing (though I'm sure still scary) for any kids who witnessed this.
I'm sad about this, but hey, they could still rebuild it and make it move through the parade. Just no more fire. Granted, I don't know how expensive that would be, but I hope they can do it. Having her breathe fire was cool, but the really awesome part was the float itself. Just how it moved and everything...I hope it isn't gone for good.
I just don’t understand how there wasn’t a plan for this. “Let’s build a super expensive float that blows fire, make the parts flammable, and then arm the cast member with a mini-fire extinguisher that doesn’t even have the range to hit the head of the float, where the fire comes out. Genius!” C’mon. Imagineers are smarter than this. Right?
They'll just drop this float from the parade until they can fix it. We will never see it shoot fire again though as I'm positive Disney's internal insurance group will tell them no more fire in parades.
I mean If it's just the upperhalf that's burnt then maybe? But if they fix her up/rebuild Her it would either have to be flame retardant if they also want to keep the fire too.
Oh my lord! I hope no one got hurt! Now that this happened, they're probably removing the effect, if not the whole float. There were already rumors that this parade was going to be refurbished. They may be adding Zootopia, Moana, Coco, and other films. We'll just wait and see.
They will definitely bring her back. But the fire may be iffy. I think if Disney can determine what went wrong and what to do to avoid that, they let her breathe fire
I hope they can make her breathe fire once again, but with some sort of failsafe, she the best part of that parade in my opinion, and my fiance loved her too...
wow, that is a real shame. I loved that float. I would go to see that parade just for that one unit! I really doubt we will have fire again, probably more of a sparkler shooting out of her mouth, similar to the ones you see come from mickeys hands during fantastic. it they can figure a way to light a magnesium spark every few minutes, I think that would be a great compromise.
This incident is going to be used for many clickbait thumbnails to come. I expect to see many "TOP TEN ACCIDENTS AT DISNEY WORLD THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT!!!!" videos in the near future.
Room302 YES
True af
Everyone sees this live I saw it live and it was so funny I cried
She's back! And she breathes fire!!
I loved that float and effect. I'd be sad to see it stop, but I can see why.
DAMN IT that was my favorite float
oh my god that's something you don't see everyday the float catches fire dan the man
Oh this is so sad, I’ve always thought of the dragon as the best and most impressive part of the parade. Hope the guys who control her are ok, I don’t think it’ll be back though.
I wish people would shoot video the proper way... horizontal.
Yes this x 10000000000000
I know folks tend to get triggered by vertical video, but I think there are times for it, and this is one of them. Like a tall comic book panel, sometimes it's better to fit what you can into the frame. It now pale in comparison with more massive Fantasmic dragon fire at Disneyland.
I just hope this float comes back to the parade someday. She doesn’t have to breathe fire, but her design is too cool to leave out forever.
I was over in WDW from Australia when this happened! Talk about a unique experience. Good thing it was our second time seeing the parade
I find it amazing that it was still moving its animations while it was on fire. That is pretty cool.
They I’ll probably fix the float it’s one of the cooler ones and this had to be a human error it just doesn’t catch fire after a couple years of use
The fuel is comparable to diesel (in how it ignites), i doubt it was the fuel...
I hope that she doesn’t go away that part of the parade is when my wife told me we were having a baby 😭
Congrats, Prince Phillip. You finally defeated Maleficent. Happily Ever After 😋
“Holy Moses” hilariously clean 😂😂
Mickey comes up with an insanely happy smile upon his face and points to the burning remains of Maleficent. "Some imagination, huh? "
If people were to remove things just for something going wrong, there would literally be nothing left in the park. Everything has incidents. It just needs updated. Maleficent has been there for at least 4 years and the parts are probably just worn. I hope they bring it back. A lot of people find this to be their favorite float.
I loved that float, when I last visited, Disney World 2016
Dang, that's awful, that was an impressive float. I'd hope they would rebuild it but they'd probably want to change whatever system they were using for the dragon to breathe fire. Isn't there a duplicate of this in Paris?
Disney Duck Enthusiast Disneyland Paris does use a more modern system instead of the “isopar” system which can be kind of dangerous at times
Yeah there's definitely one in Paris, saw it myself at the start of the year :)
This is such a tragedy for dragonlovers!!! They MUST rebuild this BIGGER and BETTER!!! It was 90 percent of the reason I even watched any of the parades as a local passholder from 2014 to 2017.
This makes it even more badass
Great fireworks, Disney has the best special effects.😂
OH NO! THAT WAS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE EVER SINCE I FIRST SAW IT! 😭😭 I hope they rebuild the float! Ill miss it so much!
I sure am glad nothing else caught fire or anyone got hurt when Maleficent dragon form was in flames
That’s devastating. Don’t trust dragons
Honestly i was waiting for this to happen.
I HEARD ABOUT THIS! Also kind of ironic and it is AMAZING that no got hurt and such a blessing🙏🐭
Omg I loved that float
Well, they better check the one in Disneyland Paris because this already happened.
Tj Samson it's a different system, but the fire is turned off until they know why it happened
I liked that float it was lit
"Fire cannot kill a dragon" *FWOOSH* "FIRE HAS KILLED THIS DRAGON--!"
In all seriousness, though, that's one hell of a mishap to happen, hope Maleficent Recovers from the massive burn she's given herself (as in, I hope the float gets fixed proper after this), this is one of my favorites of the Festival of Fantasy, from the look and the music segment it accompanies
I never seen this parade before. Omg. I started crying.
Yo that’s crazy! I’m glad that nobody was hurt from this.
I remember seeing the parade for the first time when I was 15 and like I thought the dragon was so freakin cool, so I’d be sad to see it go... But dang, it kinda looked cool when it was burning. Thank goodness everybody was safe though.
I hope they rebuild it it was as great float I say if they rebuild it they will get a better mechanism
Near tears
This is my FAVORITE thing. I'm not stupid, though ... I can't imagine it will ever breathe fire again. I am heartbroken.
Ooh boy. Its still the best daytime float ever made.. come on dizney, don't let this ruin the fun.
I remember getting news of that while watching infinity war with my friends at the theater. (My phone was on silent and I put my screens light on the lowest setting so I wasn't disturbing anyone) I remember watching this parade in January and just loving this dragon, sad that it might not return
Oh man! That was my favorite float 😦
I don't think they won't let it breathe fire again if they fix the float. Same especially since the one in Paris has stopped spitting the day after this.
I sincerely hope they rebuild this float and restore the fire-breathing aspect of it. she was just _lit_
on _fire_ af.
You should send it to TPMvids.
Were texting right now.
There is already a video
Looks like they've got another animatronic malfunction to add to the next list.
Fox Prince i
I don’t think that she’ll breathe fire again but I am so thankful that I saw her do it last time i visited lol. I got a text in school from a friend saying that she saw it on the news or something 😂

Thankfully everyone was safe but i really hope they can rebuild her.
It's jul/30/2018, is the dragon still gone from the parade?
Huzzah! The mighty dragon has been vanquished!
"This is my dream!" 😂
The best part was the epic music while battling the fire
They have the same float at Disneyland Paris (wonder if they will take it out of action?)
This was one of my favorite Disney floats I hope they re build it breathing fire or not I hope they rebuild it if not I’m happy I got to see it so many times before this happened
Are fire fighters not readily available? Because they are using fire extinguishers on the thing. I think Disneyland has standby firefighters...
The second time it happened was on April 22 2023 on Tom Sawyer island at Disneyland in a show called "Fantasmic". The fire started around the dragon's head and then spread to its body and along its neck, according to a tik tok video.
Well. Better check the one in Paris. Make sure it’s not leaking or anything.
Madison Cook im pretty sure that was the one from paris given to the park
The one in Paris has stopped making fire :/
The Paris one still emits smoke, but they've disabled the fire mechanism. I guess this is why!
I'm bummed if they don't use fire after this. This was always so cool
I was surprised to see her come back 8 months later.
My friend was working at Columbia Harbor House and had to assist with evacuating Liberty Square
Crazy, thanks for putting a video up. I didn’t even know his happened
It will breath fire again but it will either have different effects or they will slightly rebuild it.
What did they do when the fire was out how did they move the float?
Nick Granato the drive unit was still working, all that was effected was the head, the rest of the unit is perfectly fine
I'd guess they simply drove it to backstage, the main motor is in the body which was not affeceted, so once the fire was out, the driver would get back in and drive it with the rest of the parage stuck behind it following.
It was still drivable.
I heard from a cast member the cause of the fire was due to air getting into a fuel line. Maleficent is still in a coma and is still getting cosmetic surgery to repair the damage.
Wow! Poor Maleficent! I have a feeling she's not going to breath fire anymore... Also I'm happy no one got hurt.
I think the float will be back, it has appeared a lot in their commercials so not having it would be an issue as for it breathing fire that may be a different case. I could see it going either way however if it does breath fire you know they are going to inspect it with more care then before.

Exploded???? I call that catching fire 🤔
Exploded sounds cooler. Haha
Perhaps maybe Dragon Hunger Catching Fire lol
They may either use a float from a different park or rethink the idea of the float and put it on hold, also i heard there was oil leaks
Poor maleficent 😶😁😂
You hardly hear anyone in fiction say that. Still even though she's the mistress of all evil, it's still a terrible event for anyone.
E-ManAnimates yeah😂😂
I'm sad about this, but hey, they could still rebuild it and make it move through the parade. Just no more fire. Granted, I don't know how expensive that would be, but I hope they can do it. Having her breathe fire was cool, but the really awesome part was the float itself. Just how it moved and everything...I hope it isn't gone for good.
What did the float behind it have to do ? Just curious
They stopped the parade and looped the floats back around where they came from.
50th anniversary she’ll come back. And hopefully a villains float too.
Wow...well, doesn't sound like anyone got hurt. Hopefully it gets refurbished quickly. Would love to see it once we finally get there next year
My favorite float in Disney history...
Woah!!! 😯🔥🐉
I just don’t understand how there wasn’t a plan for this. “Let’s build a super expensive float that blows fire, make the parts flammable, and then arm the cast member with a mini-fire extinguisher that doesn’t even have the range to hit the head of the float, where the fire comes out. Genius!”
C’mon. Imagineers are smarter than this. Right?
If the parts were flammable, the whole float would have been in flames. There are plans for malfunctions, the response was very fast.
I wonder what the future of the parade will be like now
They'll just drop this float from the parade until they can fix it. We will never see it shoot fire again though as I'm positive Disney's internal insurance group will tell them no more fire in parades.
utube101x i mean no one was injured, they might just update the system they were using to a safer system or produce a different type of flame
i guess so but now they have a new sleeping beauty float in the parade for now
is this float the sole reason why they don't have garlands at Christmas any more, or are their other floats that cause that?
That's 🔥lit man
How did this happen?
We will see her again
I was watching the parade on the May 14th and was wondering where the Maleficent float was.
I mean If it's just the upperhalf that's burnt then maybe? But if they fix her up/rebuild Her it would either have to be flame retardant if they also want to keep the fire too.
its so sad to see, it was my favorite float that i find it very unique
hope they fix it
holy moly omg
Apparently they are pulling all similar floats from other Disney parades and doing a thorough check on them all to ensure that this won't happen again
Wow. That is Some Good Fire
Nooooo! I am going in July, and was so excited to see it... :(
Oh my lord! I hope no one got hurt! Now that this happened, they're probably removing the effect, if not the whole float. There were already rumors that this parade was going to be refurbished. They may be adding Zootopia, Moana, Coco, and other films. We'll just wait and see.
Well, I just got back from Paris, and they have the same parade float their. I’m curious if they will quit having it breathe fire.
They will definitely bring her back. But the fire may be iffy. I think if Disney can determine what went wrong and what to do to avoid that, they let her breathe fire
I saw it I didn’t see you there tho
I hope they can make her breathe fire once again, but with some sort of failsafe, she the best part of that parade in my opinion, and my fiance loved her too...
Man, first Small World, now Maleficent.
I wonder what could have happened.
wow, that is a real shame.
I’m going in two weeks i loved this float 😐
Omg!!!! I was just there 2 weeks ago 🙁 Glad we didn’t witnessed that...
