As a "vintage Pan" it was fun to watch this story and then--surprise--to find myself in it! So happy to have discovered your Distory lessons! Thanks so much.
The only time I met Peter Pan in my life, I don't remember anybody else being around me as I threw a coin in a pond (I think in Adventureland), wishing for me to meet him. And as I raised my head, there he was, and he saw me and was coming towards me!
That shadow costume is awesome. I wish that there'd be a Peter Pan shadow in the Disney parks, indiscreetly following Peter Pan from behind buildings or the two just generally causing mischief together. It would be hilarious and incredibly fun to interact with.
I met Peter Pan and Captain Hook in October of 2016, he was super goofy, telling me to compliment the captain on his “curlylicous” mustache, and asking why I didn’t get a pin of him yet. I ran into him again the next day and he was so happy I finally got his pin that he walked around with me and got me one of the hats that looks like his 😂☺️
I’ve had an experience like this! I was 6 years old and I LOVED Mulan! I told her how much I loved her, and she closed the line and walked me around China in Epcot for like 40 mins I was so grateful
I met a peter that asked me about why I didn't have a pin of him too! I never got to show it to him when i got one though. He's one of my favorite characters so I'm glad to have gotten that pin. It helps me remember the encounter :D
I actually think the tunic starting to be buttoned to the side was taken from Once Upon a Time! Pan debuted on that show in 2013 and that's how his costume was designed! The leather cuffs were also from the show!
Fantastic video! I had no idea there was so much history behind the Peter Pan costume evolution over the years. Can't wait to see more, no one does these type of videos like you!
It was because the latex ears/spirit gum made ears bleed regularly :( so cosmetology tried styling his hair to make it look like the ears were pointed, but was eventually given up on due to accuracy & difficulty. So his ears were eventually just covered by the hair or pushed back & looked regular
Hey, it's Disney Dan the man! I have realized that you haven't touched on the Disney Princesses! I would love to see some princess costume changes! And, as always, amazing video!
Being someone who hand sews costumes. This is honestly extremely fascinating! To actually get to know what a costume goes through! Hoping one day I'll get to be making costumes for Disney :>
I'm absolutely in love with Peter's more earthy costume designs. There's such cool nice little details like the foliage that makes it look so cool and unique. It gives the Pans in the parks it's own identity while still keeping them relevant to their respective film, which I think is really cool.
When you talked about the Peter Pan ride I remembered that there was a video some one made once where they were complaining about Disney, calling them a sell out and saying that it was horrible that the parks changed rides all the time, that the park should have never changed its rides, that the park only started changing its rides after they acquired Star Wars, that Disney was the only park to change its rides and that Star Wars never made merchandise of every thing before Disney bought the brand. The number of wrong things in that statement made me loose it.
I love these evolution videos! Ariel would be an interesting character to do considering all of her dresses and mermaid outfits. Also, seeing the history of the making of Peter Pan would be cool!
I really love the red thread accents. It matches the red feather and brings just a touch more vibrancy and variation to the costume. It looks like something he just patched together and had maybe found a scrap of red thread abandoned somewhere and used it to sew part of his outfit.
As a child, I knew that Peter Pan was a fantasy character, nevertheless I saw him as a hero more or less. I liked the idea of never growing up and like most kids (I think) I liked the idea of flying. My other memory of PP is from Peter Pan Peanut Butter. I once sent in for a free Peter Pan toy which was, as I recall, a Peter Pan cut out of paper with movable joints. The Picture was the Disney look.
I never tried Peter Pan peanut butter before. I remember seeing them in stores when I was younger but never got to try some. I’ll buy one and try it if I can find it at Wal Mart or Redner’s.
No matter how many times I watch this video, I don't ever get bored of it, I adore it. It must be my favorite on the channel I think. It's funny because I've never liked Disney's version of Peter Pan, as in the movie by itself. I rather like darker and more wicked interpretations so yeah, not my jam in this case (I adore the Once Upon a Time take on the character, for example). But the design of the Disney Peter Pan himself is lovely. And well, the simplicity of it makes for great base material for all sorts of redesigns and reimaginations. You said a couple of times in the video that it's surprising to have so many redesigns and versions for such a simple design, but I think it's specifically the fact the design is so simple that makes it possible to do a ton of different versions based of off it. If you take a character with more elaborate clothing style, like Kristoff or Eugene, it would be harder to modify things without changing the overall design and maybe even confusing people about the character they're seeing if he were to be somewhere out of context, whereas you'll ALWAYS recognize Peter as Peter, even with the Frozen inspired costume, and even if you see him out of context. Also, I have to say the Frozen one has to be one of my favorites from the list, but honestly I love a fair number of them. I'm even considering drawing my top 5 in a more animated style to match the original character. By the way, I was in Disneyland Paris last year (my first time ever in a Disney park!), and their walk around Peter was more of an earthy type - relatively light green compared to the other earthy ones though (but a more muted tone rather than the usual bright colored light green ones) - and also more adorned than the regular tunic. I believe he had some sort of shoulder pads or stitches or something. Unfortunately I don't have pictures (I'm not much of a photo person, unless it's pictures of landscapes and animals). He looked pretty great, to be honest - a nice middle ground between a cartoony look representative of the movie version and a tad more realistic and nature oriented design.
Oh yes! A Distory on one of my favorite Disney characters! :D I really like his look in the stage shows where he has the leafy shoulder cuffs. It’s kinda cute. The Disney On Ice one is also a fav of mine! ^^ thanks for making this vid! You’re always a pleasure to watch :3
I love the concept of Patchwork Peter Pan so much! It makes so much sense to me that Peter would throw Neverland foliage together to make himself his iconic costume, especially given that the first Tinker Bell movie shows Tink creating her minidress in a similar fashion. Of course Peter would think like a tinker!
Didn't Tumblr get really creepy over Disneyland Peter Pan actors a while back?? Anyway, this is a real rad look back! I never knew about the whole jewel-studded thing, that's pretty cool.
Yes, back in 2010-2011 or so Tumblr exploded in fascination and obsession to a casted Peter Pan actor, calling him the "Spieling Peter Pan." He was let go after a while due to being too old for the visuals of Peter Pan, but in that time he was working, he was absolutely stalked by people in the park and outside. To know which one I'm talking about, here was a page on Tumblr dedicated to post Spieling Peter Pan. fyeahspielingpeter.tumblr.com/
that was cool. way more than usual. for you next one could you plz conside doing captain hook, baloo, eeyore, or (and i know theres not alot of different versions for this one but itll be a good way to celebrate toy story land) woody
*All the men* who played *Peter Pan* in this video *are so cute!* Kyaa~ 💞💕✨😆 Handsome and adorable at the same time. It could be their facial expressions and bright behavior but they're so adorably dreamy 💞
It’s interesting how all of the characters costumes have evolved. In the 90s they had such an iconic but simplistic design. But with today’s evolution of the cosplayer, and the totally outrageous dedication they put into re-creating the costumes, the official costumes have had to be plussed to stand out! LOL
I really like the "Earthy" Peter Pan look. It looks more...realistic? Which sounds weird for an animated character, but I like whenever costume designers add textures to looks rather than just having flat colored fabric.
This video actually gave me a great idea for a Peter Pan costume. I think that's the reason there are so many variants and designs for Peter: each costume leaves room for growth.
I was searching for more pictures of peter pan and wendy costumes and guess what I found! There is a real-life couple (Andrew and Hali Ducote) who use to play Peter and Wendy at one of the parks who are now married! Andrew's peter was apparently a really popular one as well, he was nicknamed "spieling peter" for being the best peter ever at the park. There are a few of videos of him performing on youtube as well, he's really entertaining
This is my first time watching one of Dan's videos where he isn't on-screen, and I have to say I like videos where I can see him on-screen! It creates more opportunities for silly moments and commentary. Another great video, Dan!
Thanks for these videos! It's amazing to see the history of these costumes, and to see these designs change and take on their own life as times change. This Peter Pan one was by far the most interesting.
Tons of the photos you're misidentifying are actually the real Bobby Driscoll (voice, facial features and live action reference), not Roland Dupree (a dancer used only the flying and fighting scenes). Bobby was 14-15 (besides his teenage physique being very present in the drawings, that's definitely his voice after it dropped, too) during the production and turned 16 one month after the release, which was right before he was fired for puberty-related acne. What... NO WAY!!! That’s amazing. Which one were you??? We should arrange a quick fun interview for the channel! Haha
which one were u tell us now
Kneeling Pan at Disneyland with Hook and Smee, briefly seen near front and end of episode.
peggy rose 5:13 There you are!
peggy rose Wow! What was it like?
Don't matter what he's wearing or what park you are in. The best way to find him is to look for a red headed boy being stalked by a group of girls.
Summie omg right
Instructions unclear, I found Archie on accident 😂
Peter got it going on. Not gonna lie. 💞😆
Nicholas Ellis oh my gosh. XD
The only time I met Peter Pan in my life, I don't remember anybody else being around me as I threw a coin in a pond (I think in Adventureland), wishing for me to meet him. And as I raised my head, there he was, and he saw me and was coming towards me!
i love the idea of peter just loving scarves and having a collection that's honestly gotten out of hand over the unending years
That shadow costume is awesome. I wish that there'd be a Peter Pan shadow in the Disney parks, indiscreetly following Peter Pan from behind buildings or the two just generally causing mischief together. It would be hilarious and incredibly fun to interact with.
They should do that specifically for Halloween :)
I met Peter Pan and Captain Hook in October of 2016, he was super goofy, telling me to compliment the captain on his “curlylicous” mustache, and asking why I didn’t get a pin of him yet. I ran into him again the next day and he was so happy I finally got his pin that he walked around with me and got me one of the hats that looks like his 😂☺️
I want that experience
Wait, he just grabbed one of the hats from the merch places and gave it to you? That's amazing!
I’ve had an experience like this! I was 6 years old and I LOVED Mulan! I told her how much I loved her, and she closed the line and walked me around China in Epcot for like 40 mins I was so grateful

They all have such personality at the parks, they always make me laugh.
Kelly G what character did you like?
Cause when i was young, i used to watch peter pan alot
I actually think the tunic starting to be buttoned to the side was taken from Once Upon a Time! Pan debuted on that show in 2013 and that's how his costume was designed! The leather cuffs were also from the show!
YukinaKudo I LOVE Once Upon a Time! Pan was ALWAYS my favorite character on that show! Finally someone that remembers that show!!❤️❤️
imagine Pan looking at Disney's Pan and thinking "this is how you people portray me?"
I was in a production of the musical version of Peter Pan and we used a Justin Bieber wig xD
hahahaha, this comment tickled me a GREAT deal. Thank you!
ErinTheSoprano lol I was in the musical Peter Pan and the wig was almost completely white 😂
Love this, Peter Pan is my favourite. Love the shadow costume, I imagine it would be very magical to watch live!
Fantastic video! I had no idea there was so much history behind the Peter Pan costume evolution over the years. Can't wait to see more, no one does these type of videos like you!
12:22 You forgot to mention that he now wears pointy ears in this version as well.
It wasn’t consistent. I found it both ways. I couldn’t figure out why sometime he has them and other times not.
I imagine it may be dependant on the materials used: if it was latex ears for example, there is a chance the actors were allergic. Or sizing issues?
It was because the latex ears/spirit gum made ears bleed regularly :( so cosmetology tried styling his hair to make it look like the ears were pointed, but was eventually given up on due to accuracy & difficulty. So his ears were eventually just covered by the hair or pushed back & looked regular

I can't believe this is the first video based on a face character. A friend of mine performed Peter Pan in Disney Paris once.
Did he wear those leggings??
Yes he did, and it was the present version.
And whilst I'm here, how about the evolution of the 7 dwarfs please? I'm really interested about that. :)
Worst is @10:21
Best is @12:34
Great Color + great wig + ears + hat +brown shoes, if its not broke don't fix it
I agree!
My least favorite is the bedazzled one
NO GLOWING PETER GOT STYLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭
I would love to hear about the making of Peter Pan movie
Dan what about the evolution of the mickey mouse hats?
Devoted Cetacean yeah
Devoted Cetacean that would be amazing an I totally agree
Do it do it
Devoted Cetacean Yeah can we do this
That video would be like, an hour long, with an at least 15 minutes segment about the Rose Gold Ears

sorry i'm late, my dog ate my homework, anyway i'm ready for the lesson
Poor Nana probably got indigestion :P
Blog it.

At 19:06 Peter Pan is like “I’m coming for you”😂
And some girls be like "Take me away!" 💞💕😆
Awesome You should tackle Alice next love this video
Peter does like scarves.
*LOVES*
Can you please do a Distory about the making of Peter Pan ?
Please do an episode on the history of how they made the Peter Pan movie!!
I love these evolution videos! Ariel would be an interesting character to do considering all of her dresses and mermaid outfits. Also, seeing the history of the making of Peter Pan would be cool!
Would love seeing the making of Peter Pan

Please do an evolution of Tinkerbell and Wendy costumes

I never tried Peter Pan peanut butter before. I remember seeing them in stores when I was younger but never got to try some. I’ll buy one and try it if I can find it at Wal Mart or Redner’s.

Hey Dan, quick clarification: How does Peter feel about scarves?
HE LOVES THEM AS MUCH AS I LOVE THIS COMMENT.
i have such a big crush on peter pan you don't even know

When I was a kid I used to walk around in a Peter Pan costume at Disneyland
My favorite is the bedazzled Paint the Night one! I love the leather cuffs and all that glitter!
Congrats on 50K
Please do a Snow White costume evolution video! I would love to see her progression!
Whaaa my fav Disney movie! This video made me smile so much, I loved it!
*All the men* who played *Peter Pan* in this video *are so cute!* Kyaa~ 💞💕✨😆 Handsome and adorable at the same time. It could be their facial expressions and bright behavior but they're so adorably dreamy 💞
Awesome!! The first face character distory
Yes to more Pan history.... pls!!!
Can you do an evolution of clarabell cow?
Yes! Give us more Peter Pan history! This has always been one of my favorite Disney cartoons!
Finally doing a face character!!!
My favorite was DEFINITELY the Frozen inspired one from the Disney Cruise Lines. That one was all kinds of badass.
This is absolutely my new favorite series on UA-cam. I'm so happy I stumbled across your channel
I've always wanted to be a Peter at the parks. Oh well, I guess I can live out my dreams vicariously through this video lol
Please make A PETER PAN MOVIE CREATION HISTORY VIDEO
Yes to the Peter Pan movie video! I want to see it!

My power was out for OVER A DAY so I’m happy to finally see a new DIStory episode!!!!
I don't know why I'm watching a video on the evolution of the Peter Pan costume but I'm loving every minute of it.
Peter Pan/Peter Dan
hi Dan! just found this series and this channel and I am IN LOVE with the work you're doing! keep going! I can't wait to see what else you show us!
I would love more Peter history, I love that movie and it brings back my happiest memories.
Definitely the frozen inspired one.. it feels like a kid arts and crafts it with some native Americans supplies, really feeding into the lore
Wonderful! Video I'll watch it again and pick and choose a suit together
This video actually gave me a great idea for a Peter Pan costume. I think that's the reason there are so many variants and designs for Peter: each costume leaves room for growth.

Captain Hook would be great to see an evolution for! Maybe something about the history of Disney afternoon characters in parks
19:42 love the effect on the ships sails
I love your Distory videos!
Jeez the hunk in the fourth slide in the introductory title page is a really an interesting Pan!
I love videos like this, this was so well done!! And I would love to see the history of the film too!! Thank you, Dan!!!
Can we please have history of Disney films? Especially Peter pan and lion King
I love Peter Pan please do another video on this!!
I apreciate the earthy variants, goes well with the fairyland aestetic.
Yes, please tell us about the creation of the Peter Pan film. Thank you. 🧚♂️
YES! Tell us a story! A production story
This is my first time watching one of Dan's videos where he isn't on-screen, and I have to say I like videos where I can see him on-screen! It creates more opportunities for silly moments and commentary. Another great video, Dan!
I'm glad you finally returned it's been awhile
If or when you Branch out to park appearances, Please talk about Tick Tock Croc. 🐊
Poor Tick Tock. He and Louis got really screwed over by that 'gator incident.
Jascha Bull
I absolutely love Tic Toc and Louis. I'm kinda sad it'll be harder to see them
What happened to Tick Tock and Louis? Is there a story?
we need a peter pan history video :D
I love distory lessons ❤
These videos are always so interesting. Thank you for these!
I think the simpler the costume, the better. I do like the idea of the shadow costume but mostly I was happy to see Smiley Pan in the video!
Thanks for these videos! It's amazing to see the history of these costumes, and to see these designs change and take on their own life as times change. This Peter Pan one was by far the most interesting.
Loved this one!!
Thanks! I love this! I'd definitely be interested in a video on the film's evolution.
Yes! I am all for that mini Peter Pan story! :D
I really enjoy these videos. Thank you so much for making them for us.
Read the story of his life, because it's one of the worst chapters in Disney history.
Bobby was also present in the 1955 Disneyland opening day footage to promote the Jolly Roger ship, though filmed from afar.
The Wonder's sister ship is the Magic, and Disney Dreams - An Enchanted Classic doesn't play on the Dream, it plays on the Magic and the Wonder.
Hi Dan! Great history. Please share more on Peter Pan 👍
This video was recommended to me by PeterPanLore.
I didn’t know Disney tinkered with their Peter Pan outfit so much. Out of all the designs you showed, I think I like “Earthy Peter Pan+” the best. Something about the mossy texture just fits.
The last one you present is awesome ! It looks really cool and modern but still timeless :-)
As a huge fan of Peter Pan and the mythos, I would love to see a full mini-episode on that!
Thanks for adding my comment about Peter Pan
I really like the og cruise ship look the best :) The frozen inspired Pan is very interesting though!
Definitely interested in hearing the story of the development of the film. Yes please! :)
Do Captain Hook next 😄😄😄
I like the one that is in the parks now and that last bedazzled Peter that you liked, the one with the cute cuffs.
