- Hello, 3D Printing friends! If you have a Bambu Lab A1 3D printer, go turn it off right now. There's safety recall over the heatbed cable, so you should stop using the printer.

Well, that's a printer maker's nightmare. A recall like this, but actual accidents even more so.
Looking forward to possibly buying a fixed, refurbished, discounted, A1 combo in a few months.
I was thinking about that also, I guess there will be quite a few AMS lite units available also! I have an X1C and AMS but an A1 would look nice next to it!
Glad I hadn't pulled the trigger on one just yet 😅
I chose to keep mine and repair it myself when they send out the parts. I'll use the 120 dollar credit towards one of the other printers they have or maybe just get a second a1. The couple months I've had it it's been an awesome printer.
Honestly gives me comfort that Bambulabs is looking out for their customers instead of first denying the issue *cough* unlike NZXT..
it's partially for the customers but also if an incident occurs where a house burns down because of a bambulab printer failure, their reputation would be irreversibly destroyed and they would lose a hell of a lot of money.
Not so sure about that. They are lucky that nothing happened so far. In any case that should not slip through QC.
@@darkquail2003 There are warnings on every 3D printer that you aren't to leave it unattended, if yer house burns down.... that's on you 😂
I'm still printing, I need to its my business. I only print while i'm in the workshop. I have no damage cable and the printed clip installed. I have no problem installing the new bed and gaining the $120 credit which goes a long way with several Bambu Filaments! I consider this one of the best response to an issue i've ever seen in a product.
yes same here mine already came with the update cable out the box and still reaches 100 deg, and am printing around the clock
Yeah the stop printing BS is so over the top it's actually insane. Most creality printers are less safe by default but they never did a recall.
I'm in the exact same boat. I can't afford to be down 2 printers at the moment.
Same. Still using mine. No damage to my cable, got the clip installed. I wont let it run at night or while im not here until I get the new bed.
I personally LOVE my A1. No visible damage, but am still following the crowd and returning it for a replacement. I read it will be about May. I say good in them for doing what they are. No hate from me. Great company and amazing printer.
Well said Bryan. Ordered on the 1st day, still sat in the box till 2 days before the recall ( too busy around the holidays to set it up). Took it out and laid it on my bench waiting to put it together. Still sitting there. I’ll wait for the replacement part and change it my self. Plus I’ll take the $120 voucher.😊
Bambu is a stand up company. Glad to see the community handling this correctly also. Kudos all way around.
If they were then this wouldn't have happened in the first place. They are cutting corners. Putting out products that weren't tested properly and putting customers life in danger.
Stand up company's don't flood the market with untested and un reliable printers that were knows fire hazards. Shil harder.
like Creality has for 10yrs? @@LilApe
Well in order to actually have a recall, Bambu Labs would have to answer the support tickets in their customer service system. All they have done is put out a blog post saying to submit tickets to have the units returned. Have had an open ticket for three days now and no response.
Fortunately I bought my Bambu Lab A1 Combo from Microcenter. I'm not eligible for the filament membership because of this but when I chatted with Microcenter regarding the A1 Friday they said to bring the printer back to them even though my printer was beyond the return window and didn't care that I had tossed the box either. I got a full refund Saturday and bought the Bambu Lab X1C with AMS instead so kind of upgraded the little A1 I'd say. In retrospect now that I have used the X1C for a few days now I am soooooo happy this went down this way and am pleased with the new printer and it's much more versatile printing capabilities.
Microcenter is the place to be my dude.
While I do have my concerns regarding Bambulabs, especially concerning privacy, I do commend them for making the right call. Nice job Bambulabs, and thank you Bryan
Good video and glad to see Bambuland stepping up.
Only after they flooded the market with untested and un reliable printers. RIP bambu lab
No argument here.
Who still have the Original Box? lol Good on Bambu Lab doing this ..Great Support ..
I throw mine out as soon as the Amazon return dat passes
If you ever have to do a 'normal' waranty claim they require you to ship it back in the box. They'll send you a box for (I believe) $50 otherwise.
It's in the instructions and printed on the box for the A1 that you should keep the box in case you need to ship the device back to bambulab. That's on you if you cannot follow simple instructions.
I still have my cow box from my 1999 Gateway PC. I never throw away electronic boxes
@@TheDarkestPhoenix Never bought a Bambu don't plan on it......issue solved
I’ve been using A1 for over a month and printed today the protective cover. As much as I appreciate Bambu for how they decided to handle this I must admit I’m a bit disappointed by the fact that I didn’t get that e-mail and had to learn that I shouldn’t use my printer from a youtube video.
Props to BBL for stepping up.
Bambu is handeling this the right way I think ... inspires confidence in their business, atleast to me. I do not own a Bambu printer but just might in the future ... for now it's just an Ender 3 and CR10S pro.
Bryan, thank you for a calm, well-reasoned response. Your video is unfortunately the exception to other content creators' hysteria and sensationalism. I wish more of them would follow your example.
Also, from what I've been reading, that photo of the cable with the hole in it has largely been determined to be faked due to the way the cover is bent outward from the cable. Had the hole been created naturally, it would not look like that, nor would it be that far back from where the xable connects to the printer body.
Thanks again for handling this issue so well.
here here!
This isn't calm and well reasoned, just check your cable, if it looks good just keep on printing😂
@@malloott what it isn’t is the hysterical click bait that others are coming out with. Mind you it’s no Anet A8 printer of death!
I was just about to purchase one when they pulled it down. Ended up with a x1c. If they handled this badly I wouldn’t have went through with that purchase.
This is legit cool on their part. Meanwhile Creality is still using tinned wires on their printers and I had to pay money and spend my own time (thanks to your video) to crimp them. I don't own an A1 because I'm still happy with my Franken-E3V2, but I'm looking into it being my next printer someday.
I'm no fan of Creality, but I'm not aware of a Creality printer causing a house fire (someone jump in if they know of any such incidents). Bambu Lab chose to have a/c going to a part that goes through many repeated motion cycles. Safety needs to be front and center of a design like that. There have already been reports of cables smoking and sparking, so Bambu had little choice but to act. One house fire that kills someone would be the end of the company. They are acting in order to survive.
@@JonS an Ender 6 burned down a house in germany a few weeks ago killing a cat
@@anonymousperson7861 I just read an article about this incident (it was in Austria). There is doubt that the Ender 6 caused the fire. Neighbors reported hearing three explosion, leading some to thinking it was a laptop that was charging in the same area.
still havent bought a BBL printer yet but seeing how much theyre committed to their customer base it seriously inspires confidence in their machines
Damn. $120 to replace my own bed? If I owned this printer I'd definitely just do it myself.
It will be interesting to see what Bambu Lans eventually send out.
As an A1 owner, who hasn’t really seen too much to worry me about the heat bed cable, I’ve elected to keep the A1 and request the B option of a replacement cable/heat bed and the advertised $120 voucher (which I’ll use on BL filament).
However, the confirmation email from support says that BL will send a replacement heat bed, and an $80 voucher, not the $120 voucher that was the stated amount on completing the replacement request form.
I’ve pointed this error out to BL support, but will be interested to see if they honour the original advertised agreement that I signed up to, or decide to send the reduced value voucher out instead.
Keeping mine and the $120 credit as well. I have a P1S to use in the meantime.
Props to Bambu for not pretending the issue doesn’t exist. I’ve witnessed that behavior with other companies in the past, and it’s sickening. Bambu immediately acknowledging it and committing to make it right, makes me an even more enthusiastic Bambu Lab customer for future products.
I don't have the original box anymore. So I agree sending the box to users who need them. I also have just received an other A1 that is still in the box. Both of them I bought with Gift cards. Do I get refund in form of gift cards or money?
Thank you for another useful and informative video.
I received a notification about the first blog post, but haven't yet had one about the second post so this was the first I heard about it.
My cable looks fine but I suppose I should stop using it. I dread to think what an insurance company might say if the house burnt down now that a proper recall has been issued.
I guess I'll have to get my ender 3v2 back up and running. I've been feeling really bad about dumping it for a sleeker new model; it really has been an absolute Trojan, apart from a couple of nozzle changes, I don't think I've even relevelled the bed since I put 'yellow springs' on it. I just wish it was faster.
I made my decision last night and submitted my support ticket to bambu.
I've opted for the heatbed upgrade solution for my A1. I'm fairly certain my A1 is fine, having no cable or heatbed temp irregularities. And I've installed the cable relief printed model.
Then i plan to use the 120 USD credit toward another Bambu printer. Perhaps the A1 mini to supplement my A1. If finally mount the AMS Lite ontop of my A1 and then place the A1 mini alongside the A1 where my AMS Lite is now.
😊🎉
You should check your state laws on repair of electrical devices. Otherwise You risk to be liable of injuries or damage to persons and/or properties, but also problems with insurance company coverage.
@@donkeymarco Yes, and it's all good here. I submitted my ticket to bambu on my Saturday night. Bambu responded early hours of this morning to confirm they will be sending me the revised heatbed by the end of March. They said they will also send me a voucher code for $120 at same time they so it the heatbed.
I'm actually going to buy the A1 mini this week (without AMS lite) and use the voucher after it arrives for filament, etc 👍
I cant wait for the hoards of A1 "refurb'd" printers to come available. 😃 Ive been wanting one for a while.
seriously, i hate you people who keep saying this.
😂@@calebprenger3928 Then quit reading the comments dumb a$$
Why the hate?
Looking forward to updated print speed benchmarks reviews😂
Thanks for the information with out the hype and hysteria. Just the facts.
funny enough i actually love that this happened because i didn't buy the combo and was planning to buy an AMS lite later. so now i get to buy one half off with the voucher lol.
i just bought an A1 less than a month ago and havent recieved any emails. My cable looks fine (for now) but this is scary news. Looking forward to replacing the cable myself, I guess!
I too discarded the packaging so I chose bed replacements. In hindsight I should’ve just returned and purchased the x1c
I was going to buy an A1, but the order site said "coming soon". Hope this recall will be a drop in price when they deciede to sell new ones
This is exactly why I wait a few months after release when buying some tech. I Worked in electronics, rushing to buy the newest gadgets is the worst, many design issues are discovered in the first batches shipped.
The issue is simple. 120v bed with wires that are inadequate and are under constant strain..
Really bad choice.
Excellent council. Thank you for the rundown...
I miss this standard sign-off. Next time however!
Yah, i guess its thermal camera time, on cable. I have had mine since mid Jan, the idea of giving it back or stop using is a trial iin itself, sure i have other printers, but i love this one. I took the replace the bed myself option because of the timelines, i bet it would be a chore just to get it back in the box. In all the years of 3d printing this is the first time i have heard, recall and do not use. Unattended they are always a fire hazard, but it seems the rate is low or we would hear more about it. so it goes.
I'll need a box and packaging, glad you suggested that. I have had this A1 for long enough, and space is limited so the box and packaging went away. I'd be fine with getting another P1 series or maybe save a little more for the X1. I loved this A1, but I might want an enclosed printer, it gets drafty in this old house. I also just completed the prints for an enclosure for the A1, which will now be an enclosure for the A1 Mini and AMS Lite.
Thanks for the info and another great video!
Does anyone know if they are covering shipping costs?
Yes, they will provide a shipping label.

New Findings
At the time of publishing this blog post, we have found that less than 0.1% of all the A1 printers sold have electrical malfunctioning problem related to heatbed cable suffering from damage reported to us.
Wish I had bought one last week, would just fix it myself
best info so far, thank You!
I thought mine was okay, until i took a very close look at the cable, the part of the cable close to the heatbed where the nozzle cleans itself, it has a weird little dimple.
And I was just about to buy an a1. Damn it. Thats probably why the availability went away a week or two ago
I just performed the heat bed cable replacement fix on my X1 Carbon (1st version), which included having to swap out the older boards on the extruder and bed for the newer versions. I can't imagine anyone who hadn't been working on printers for years and bought a Bambu printer because it was "plug and play" being able to perform that level of maintenance/repair. Dealing with Creality machines for years gave me the knowledge and experience needed to get grimy with my printers when necessary.
I just ordered an X1C. I'm guessing I don't need to worry about that replacement?
I just watched the Heatbed replacement video Bambu provided in the blog. I have several decades of electrical experience and this seems very straight forward since its mostly exposed under plastic covers. Only caution I'd advise is removing the AC wires from the power supply as the capacitors might still have a charge in them. Shocked they didn't advise how to discharge it. - No pun intended
@@Yggdrasil42 You likely won't have any issues. It was mostly a problem with the first generation machines sent out close to launch.
Unfortunately i threw the box away so I'm not sure what to do.
Just get the replacement bed and keep printing if your cable looks good, don't fall for the scaremongering
@@malloott yeah that's exactly what i did lol . Going to use the 120 credit for repairing it myself towards another printer.
Thoughts and comments on this printer and is it still worth considering purchasing one. Are new printers still being sold, they do list them on their web site and is there still an issue with the cable.
Bryan, if the heat bed fails while printing unattended that it could cause the a huge build up on the extruder head and nozzle??
I just had this happen late Saturday
And I just ordered a new Hotend Heating Assembly for it
This has been well discussed in the facebook and reddit groups. there is no real danger to using this printer. the main issue is inconsistent bed temps from cable damage.
For those who are buying an A1 now, will the new incoming product have the issue fixed?
i got one today, and it got still this issue
And what if you don't have the original packing?
Well explained... thanks Bryan.
In the newest recall post there is a link to register which option you choose to do.
Time to send it in... will most likely be an upgrade for me, not interested waiting for to long
I can see where this could be extremely inconvenient for small printing business owners. Overall their response is decent. I had been hesitant about Bamboo printers after their last incident of printers initiating themselves in the middle of the night. Even with this new issue, if I were in the market for a relatively pricey printer, I'd still consider a Bamboo.
Still using mine. Not when I'm not at home though.
The original excuse of shipping or assembly damage was lame. Clearly a design flaw. That said, this is a pretty solid recall and overall response to the issue. It's generally not how a company messes up, it's how they address it.
Like they said, it's an issue with 0.1% of machines, I don't understand why they recalled. Mine works flawless and has no damage.
@@malloott Time vs risk. It's an issue for a very small number of machines currently. The more time passes, the more machines will get used, the more cables will fail. Even a single house fire could end the company's reputation. It is a company's responsibility to address issues with their products as they arise to protect customers, and that's what they are doing. How much risk do you accept before a company should respond? This also covers them for the future because if someone has an issue with their printer and they never returned it or replaced the bed, Bambu Lab can easily say they told everyone to stop using the printers. It's a about reputation, consumer confidence, safety, and covering their butt.
Nice work buddy 👍 thanks for the update 😎
I am impressed with their speed in addressing this problem. Unlike other companies that drag their feet and try to deny there is a problem, Bambu Lab faced it head on. Because of their actions I will certainly be buying my next 3D printer from them.
Thanks Bryan.
I agree with you re the boxes. Being in a position of living in a small space keeping the box was not practical. Making it a pre requisite of a refund is simply a joke at this point.
Well, as I've had the printer over 30 days and had no intentions of returning the printer, plus not much space, I got rid of the box and packaging. 🤔 Ive opted to return the printer but how will I do this. I've asked Bambu Labs let's see their response. #printerproblems #returns #help
Well, I wonder if that’s affecting the one that I just received in the mail or if they had corrected it on this printer
My A1 is sitting in it's original box since I never even removed it and set it up. I opted for the replacement heatbead and $120 in store voucher. My guess is the new replacement bed will be double and triple checked and then checked again to avoid this happening again. so Essentially I'll get a new A1 and $120 in free filament and replacement heads. In my opinion this is an equitable resolution to the issue (as long as the replacement bed is flawless)
still printing, everythings fine on this end. Still not gonna let it print on its own
To be honest, some of the pictures floating around look like the damage was due to user error. How on earth you get a bite out of a cable that moves back & forwards I have no idea! The kink at the start of the cable I can see - while putting the printer together it was easy to drop it on that cable connection and I was careful not to but I bet a lot of people weren't as careful, put the printer too close to the wall, etc. and that aggravates an already potentially wonky cable.
It's a bit heartbreaking for us A1 owners who really loved the printer. It is such a good machine, and these delays are really unfortunate. I opted to return mine and I'm waiting on shipping instructions from Bambu. I suppose I'll replace it with a P1S, but its not really an "upgrade" I'm excited for, given the P1S feels more like a expensive sidegrade compared to the newer A1 with its flow calibration, quick switch nozzles, and various other error detection features that showed up with the latest beta firmware.
P1S does not have those features?
@francruar It does not, but it probably has some error detection.
My take is there are going to be a huge amount of 'refurbished' product put on sale as 'NEW"!!!!
Was looking to puchase the P1P. Not now.
Cheers.
so I have a question what if I still use the printer will I still get the $120 gift card
Got an ad for the A1 on this video 😂
I've filled out the form a couple of hours ago. After watching the video, I decided changing the cable seems easier than wiring a plug. The only issue is Im in the UK, and Im hoping we dont turn out to be one of the countries that they can't allow customer repairs. If I do have to return it they had better send a box otherwise its coming back in any box I can find wrapped in bubble wrap. Who has honestly got the space to store those massive boxes!!!
I think we will be good in the UK. I'll be going the same route and replacing the bed myself, it looks pretty simple from the video. Plus a £100 credit on the Bambu store will be good for a few rolls of filament.
I’m in 2 minds about what to do with my A1. I mostly print pla but like the idea of the enclosed Ams due to moisture etc. would you take the upgrade if you could with the $80 voucher
Upgrading still is an expensive option, at least 300 more for the fully enclosed version. I'm keeping my A1 and will buy a bunch of filament.
Mine is affected. I have a crack on one side that I can feel with my fingers. For security, I left unplugged and place a ticket for a new spare plus 120 $ since that I can't afford another Bambulab printer model and also I don't like any multicolor that's right now in the market. I'm happy what they're doing and I'm waiting for my replacement spare due that I'm not in a hurry and I have other 3d printers available at home. For now, what I had printed on the A1 is very nice.
That sucks man 😢 first one I have heard. Mine if perfect
never got the email.
Started this video and got an ad for the A1😂😂
Anet a8's burned down a few houses and they never got recalled. Even the a few ender 3's caught fire, no recall either.
Jup, alll soldered heatbeds and hardly any strain relief, this was industry standard for ages. If you don't feel damaged cables on your A1, just keep printing and Don't fallll for the fearmongering
Mine is still working 24/7 because I have work to do…so kinda can’t stop
Bryan. Another great video. I bought my A1 to give as a gift for my sons Bday next week. It is still new in the box. My question is if I return the printer and wait for the A1 updated printer will i be buying a rebuilt printer with possibly several hours already printed on that machine or will it be a complete new machine.
The investment fund that funded bambu lab is awfully mad right now. Bambu lab about to be sold off for pennies on the dollar.
If you send your A1 back and BL goes bankrupt then you will not get your money back and have lost the the printer. Worst case scenario off course
Bambulab stans absolutely beside themselves right now
I have an A1 which has operated flawlessly since purchasing however I am in the unfortunate position of having already getting rid of the box and packaging material it came in and I am going to bet here in Australia we will not be able to replace the bed ourselves so I am wondering where that leaves me?????
Ive only received one email saying to print out a cable protector
You should have it now of in the next 24hr
This has all been blown so far outta proportion... I'm not turning mine off, it's perfectly fine.
i strongly disagree that bambulab should be responsible for sending out boxes for return shipping, it's common sense and practice to save any packing from expensive hardware for at least as long as the warranty lasts.
that being said i do agree on your other points, and also think that despite this being a really unfortunate launch, i think we should all be thankfull that bambulab actually cares, you would never see this from a creality or the likes.
I wonder if they will be selling refurbished A1's.
This is a pretty terrible way to recall. They need to offer a bigger credit to cover the difference between the P1S with AMS and the A1 Combo. I specially if they are wanting me to go through the hassle of packing and shipping my printer back and then being without a printer for months while they sort this out. This is their problem so I don’t care what I costs them but making it right would be more freeing an easy path to the next best printer equivalent at minimal cost difference.
Who cares, you sound like a customer nobody wants to have. Nothing happened to yours but you still think they owe you the world, despite they doing al this preventably. Just return it and move on.
@@fofopads4450 I never said they owe me the world. I am simply saying if they sent a product that is a potential fire hazard like they are now making it sound, they could do something of a bit kite of a gesture. They could offer a $200 discount on the P1S if we want to return our A1 and then they could always sell those as refurbished models to make some money back. People’s would gobble those up. We all know companies to the bare minimum usually so you can assume whatever they offer is probably not the best they could do.
This recall was so unfortunately timed, I was planning on getting an A1 literally next week, and now it's sidelined until May.
they used too skinny wires with insulation not rated for the usage;
hundreds of thousands of movements per print
the wire usage also likely violates the US NEC by a large margin
I remember ordering a chinese well pump that used cabling half the minimum wire size given the current load
Seems like it would be prudent to redesign this printer to no longer use line voltage for the bed heater.
Mine is perfectly fine but they want to give me a new heatbed and 125 dollar certificate. I'm good with that.
I'm in the process of returning my Bambu Lab A1 for a refund. Does anyone know if Bambu will be notify use when the new printers are available to re-order? I already miss it.
We need to remember that Bambu Labs is not a huge company... ~300 employees and they had a rough time getting started and through COVID.
Companies have closed up shop due to expensive recalls, leaving customers with nothing.
Hats off to them for trying to do the right thing & fingers crossed.
I got a hardware update and my A1 told me to go file for the solution.
So they will replace the entire heat bed fixture along with the LCD screen or they want you to install this new heat bed cable? Getting confusion on what exactly is being replaced?
The heat bed is the part that moves. The part that the screen attaches to is not the heat bed. They will replace the aluminum part along with the cord.
So this is definitely one the better responses from a company about a defect. It's not perfect but this makes me more confident in buying one of their printers.
I really hope BL will survive this recall, the costs of such a move are monumental. I can say, from my experience with other 3D printer brands (very reputed ones) that this is a rare move on manufacturers of this size, and that in the past, design defects like this from those reputed manufacturers were not handled this way and it was up to the user to figure out how to go forward with a printer that is a safety risk.
No doubt the company that gave them the wires would be covering the cost if it was to their design specs.
@@flat_stickproductions209
This is not how the world works… Nobody will volunteer to pay up, if it is a supplier fault they will do everything they can not to pay, drag it in court for years, by then, if BL isn’t financially stable they will go down.
I chose to replace the headbed myself, so I submitted this reply to their callback request.
Just now they replied that they would send a revised heatbed later and a 80 $ discount code. I replied back that it should be the promised 120 $, and got the same reply a few minutes later. Hopefully this an error on their part.
They updated the response, so it is the original promised 120$
I'm torn on what option to take. I'm new to 3D printing, actually the A1 Combo is my first printer. My cable shows no physical damage and I have not had any issues that I'm aware of. Based on the wiki and the repair video I know that I can do the bed replacement myself but should I use this as an option to upgrade to the P1S combo. If I want to order the P1S combo now will they credit me the $80 afterwards or do I need to wait to physically have that before ordering a P1S. Ugh
I returned my A1 to microcenter literally 2 days ago...Now this?! I'm waiting to hear back from microcenter if they're gonna honor the $80 credit since I bought a P1S when I returned the A1.
Please reply to my comment and let me know what they say. I've been wondering how they will handle this.

I turned mine off, put it back in the box and went to MC and came home with a nice P1S with AMS. Forced upgrades are the best!
