Top Warning Signs You Have Cockroaches In Your Home
Pretty much everyone hates roaches, and they are probably the last thing you want to see running across your kitchen counters, so in this post, we cover the top warning signs you have cockroaches in your home.
Seeing Roach Droppings
First off, roaches are nocturnal and are very skittish when it comes to being around humans, so you’ll probably have a hard time noticing them if there’s only one or two roaches hiding in your home. You might accidentally run into them as you are stumbling into the dark kitchen for a late night snack as you open the fridge door.
Cockroaches, like most pests, are in constant search of food, water, and shelter. Unfortunately, your home can be an excellent provider of all three things cockroaches are looking for to survive.
Roaches typically eat food you leave easy access to such as scraps in garbage cans or even grease and grime left behind on dirty appliances and counters. You’ll usually find them hanging around in the kitchen or bathrooms where there are many access points for food and water.
In these high traffic areas for roaches, a top warning sign you have cockroaches in your home is finding roach droppings in these areas. Unless you are a night owl like roaches, you’ll probably start finding roach droppings before you start seeing other warning signs of cockroaches.
You’ll start finding egg casings (oothecae)
It doesn’t take long for a few roaches to create a massive problem because these pests can breed incredibly fast. Roaches don’t just lay one egg at a time and call it a day, but instead they lay cases of eggs, (called Oothecae).
These long brown egg cases can contain an average of 10 to 20 eggs and in some species of cockroach that egg count could jump up to as high as 50 eggs per case. This means a few roaches can quickly multiply when left unchecked and become a major issue almost overnight.
Often roaches will hide these egg casings in hard to reach places, making them hard to find and treat with over-the-counter remedies. This is one reason we recommend reaching out to a pest control service for treatment if you start seeing any of these top warning signs for cockroaches.
Smelling roaches
Another warning sign for roaches you might encounter before you start actively seeing them is you will start smelling them. Roaches can produce a rather unpleasant musty order throughout your house.
This is caused for several reasons. This smell could come from decaying dead roaches, but also from several live roaches as well. Often if you are smelling roaches, it will have an oily and musty smell.
In most cases when you begin smelling roaches, it’s probably not just from a single roach. Occasionally, certain species of roaches do have a potent smell as an individual roach, but in most cases you’ll be smelling many roaches if it’s strong enough to detect throughout your home.
Dead Roaches
Spotting dead roaches throughout your home is another sure warning sign you have roaches in your home. Roaches are a tough breed of pest and can go long periods without food, and in some cases even without a head!
Surprisingly, roaches can breath though tiny holes along their bodies and headless roaches can still survive for a decent amount of time. The only reason these headless pests die, is they can no longer ingest food or water.
This means that if you are finding dead roaches hidden around your home, they were the weaker ones that couldn’t survive. In most cases there are still plenty of others hiding throughout your home when you start finding roach carcasses.
Also finding dead roaches doesn’t mean you are in the clear. It’s usually just a sign that numbers are increasing and the issue may only be just beginning. Roaches aren’t really a pest that takes care of itself when left unchecked, so you’ll want to take action immediately when encountering any warning signs for cockroaches in your home.
The last major warning sign may seem a bit obvious, but it probably is worse than you think if you start seeing roaches during the day. Typically, cockroaches are nocturnal and seeing them during the day is a very bad sign.
When you start seeing roaches during the day, this often means that there is overcrowding going on in your home. Most often, nocturnal creatures and pests like roaches, won’t start coming out during the day unless they are desperate.
There’s usually more than enough food and water to go around if roaches are in your home to begin with, but if they are getting desperate and begin searching for those in the day your home could be in trouble.
Roaches are a tough pest to eliminate and it may require multiple treatments to fully get rid of them. So the sooner you can start putting an effective pest control treatment in place the better.

literally gotta have the owner of your apartment treat behind the walls and do a professional cleaning. the latter is super important after treatment because roach spit and shit is all over your apartment. That oily weird ass smell is that mess. I had a allergic reaction from it a few days ago and was hospitalized because of it. This ain't no joke. You need to be riding your landlord's ass on this bullshit. Worse case, in many states you can break lease without consequences and even get it court ordered that you're refunded especially on health costs.

That just happend to me I was laying in bed it is 1:42 am I am finishing a video about to go to sleep I look on my wall and see something black ( my lights are off ) I shine my phone light on it and see it is one of those flying ones. It falls of my wall on my bed and flies away. I jump under the cover sweating and freaking out about 6 minutes later I finally work up the courage to get out my bed I look around and see it on the far wall in my room and then it flies back to me again I get back under the covers for about another 6 minutes later I get our of bed and run to my parents room shaking and crying I wake my dad up and hes like what's wrong I am still crying and I say there's a cockroach in my room he wakes up my mom who is now in my room tryna find the cockroach

First floor Latinos brought em in and now I got em . Had to throw away a 2 month old microwave because they were literally inside where the clock part is . Then I placed combat traps and gel all over and thought they were gone until yesterday when the power went out for 2 hours then came back on there was one on my kitchen counter . Went out bought 12 more combat traps . They make me lose my appetite and put me in a shitty mood 😒

@@journeer309 Had two pest controls come in and said my house isn't infested. They are just coming in from the outside and said not to worry. If your house is tidy like mine and you still see them, then don't worry too much. I'd check cupboards and stuff if I was you to make sure. My flat is on top of an accounting firm with lots of restaurants around. Prob more roaches outside due to restaurants and stuff with their bins out all the time.
One time I took a guy to his VA appointment he was having to go through sleep tests for sleep apnea. While I was waiting in the waiting room a guy came in and sat down across the way from me. He looked like a homeless person. Pretty soon a big roach or whatever came from his direction toward me. About halfway across that aisle I lifted my foot in the air. It stopped, thought for a minute turned back and I swear went back to him and crawled in his shoe and he got up and walked away. Fine so long as you're gone. Total " Men in Black" vibe I'm telling you. 🧐

Yesterday, I was just lying on my bed using my phone and a cockroach came out from under my bed and went under my sister's bed. It was 12:20 AM. I just ignored it until an hour later I heard tkktkk as if a cockroach was on my wall. I had dumped a few clothes on my bed and I was terrified that it might be around my clothes hiding so I jumped out of my bed quickly. I sat in front of my closet but then I smelled something. I thought it was my pants (idk why) and then smelled it but it was perfectly fine. For some reason, my body made me stand up and guess what I saw right on the spot I was sitting on but behind it, A COCKROACH! I was searching under my bed and clothes while sitting but it was just behind me. I have an extreme phobia of roaches and they give me anxiety. Guess who's not sleeping in their bed? I slept on my sister's bed yesterday. At about 3:38 AM, I had fallen asleep.
I actually have half OCD, and it was crawling on my leg so I slapped it away. I was afraid my hand had germs so I literally washed it,came back in, it was flying! FLYING!! MY ROOM SMELLS FINE! I was taking a shower in my bathroom and i looked up because i just want to look up and i saw an antenna above the sliding door and it keeps moving. I quickly rinsed my body. Then while i get the towel it suddenly decided to show its head and turns out it was not alone there was actually 2. I got my lil bro to kill it.

I just saw a Gaint brown roach outside my window and i had spilt water it was day btw...also that was my first time seeing a roach at all on my window.
my apartment in NY was infested I had a exterminator there 5x seperate times and did fogs didn't find any after that. I put all my appliances in a plastic bag and put it out in the shed it was winter time and freezing, when I moved about 4 months later all my appliances and furniture stayed in a moving truck for about 7 days so it was super cold, Do you think any would of survived in that weather? I havent seen any but want to make sure.
With such extreme cold temperatures and prolonged exposure, it's highly unlikely that any cockroaches would have survived in those conditions. However, to be on the safe side, continue to stay vigilant and monitor your new space for any signs of infestation.

my microwave cabinet is always filled with droppings 😭 i have done everything, even sanding it all dipping it in diesel (yes diesel, cause they told us termites and bugs would not like that taste).... and they stil l o v e that bloody cabinet. i honestly dont get it 😐 (but i dont think like a roach, maybe they see it as a 5⭐ condo)

I found a big one half an hour ago in my kitchen counter. I store everything in jars and take out my garbage every day. Why I have them in my houseeeeee???? I think they are behind my kitchen furniture. But why do I find only big ones? It's been 3 weeks since I started seeing them (7 by now). My problem is that I sprayed the last one, fall down playing dead and went to get some paper towel to throw it away of my house, but can't find it anywhere. Wtf?
This is exactly what happened to me today and I am so grosses out I literally froze and called my husband to but raid and my home smells horrible uts just the counters and I too have everything sealed but my landlord did change some pipes and we have construction in my building maybe its that idk its 2:43 am I can't sleep i am scared 😭
I think you didn't actually fully killed the roach so it ran away to hide and recover.
I found two within the week. One was in my living room and killed it. Found another one tonight and killed that. I’ve had this before and got rid of them. So just wanting to get rid of them completely and not have them come back. Do you recommend anything for the yard to keep them away?

Yes it's possible. Outdoor roaches don't want to be in your home they kinda wander in and around and die unless your home is dirty. If you see one near a door or away from a water source it could be a straggler. If you see them under your sinks or behind your fridge and stove, you probably want to treat those areas and put out some bated glue traps to gauge where the activity is. Now if you see a German roach (small ones) you have a problem call a professional.

I'm become extremely paranoid, I found a black looking beetle in bedroom but after trapping it and examining it moved slow and only know roaches to move fast(they can be very fast) I have heard to never attempt to squash a roach as they lay eggs, don't know if this is true though. But from someone that lived in Greece and seen the sticky looking brown ones there something of a nightmare. People afraid spiders but I welcome spiders compare to roaches. Now I've heard there nocturnal, but I have seen them come out in the light. Literally makes you eat your heart when you see them.
It's understandable to feel anxious when encountering an unfamiliar insect in your home. While it's true that some types of roaches can move quickly and are difficult to control, it's unlikely that attempting to squash one will result in egg laying. You can check that worry off your list!

Though it's more common for dirty house to have them even the most spotless house can get them also. I'm guessing they just wander around to find the first bit food. Keep house clean and food put away don't leave water in bowls and if they was there they should go as the living conditions just don't suit them. Hope you don't see them now though.
It's possible that there might be others, but seeing one roach doesn't necessarily mean you have an infestation. Just to be safe, you might want to check common hiding spots and consider preventative measures. Stay vigilant!

My crawl space was filled with water and humidity. I had my crawl space encapsulated and now I’ve seen roaches in my house. Could they have been living in my crawl space? I’ve already called for pest control. I have put boric acid around my house until they can come out

It was 6:28AM and I woke up feeling weird on my leg. the cockcroach was crawling on my fucking leg! I slapped it away and it flew only my teddy ;-; and I was like, ight imma head out.

I live in the country but work in downtown Detroit. I cleaned out my locker and brought the stuff in my house. While setting my stuff down I thought a cricket was on my arm. What I’m used to. It was NO cricket! It was a roach! I know because I flung it off and couldn’t find it immediately. Will 1 roach give me roaches?

Peanut butter, boric acid, and a tablespoon of syrup. Mix all in a bowl and evenly distribute into bottle caps. Throw them behind frig, inside cab, and under sink. You should be good in a week
Just moved into a new studio apt, on the side of an older house. So far I've seen 12 or so baby roaches and I'm too scared to even sleep.. they CRWALED OUT OF THE DRAIN... like whattt I sprayed one with raid and it didn't even do anything
