The Rest:
1 - engine “options”
Sure you get three different power outputs
But no more V6 and no more diesel
The 2.7T is the only engine and all the way boosted up to 310hp and 430 lbft means real high compression and with all the knocking and shaking off-road I’d start to worry about durability
2 - trail boss looks cool but is really basic
Cloth interior
Hard plastic dash
No rear seat center cupholder
No LED headlights
So if you want the A/T tires and off-road kit you have to have a crap interior or fork up ZR2 money
3 - no rock rails
I believe the ZR2 will come with them but neither the trailboss nor the Z71 come with rock sliders under the fenders
Of course you can option them as an accessory and you do get skids on the trail boss
4 - the rear
There’s not a huge amount of room
No charging ports
Some trims don’t even get a center armrest or cupholder
No map pockets
Under seat storage is there…kinda
5 - the dash
We touched on this with the Trail boss thing but the WT and Trail boss literally just have a scratchy plastic dash
Maybe it’s for durability, maybe it’s easier to clean - but I’ve been off-roading enough times to know that a canvas wrapped dash or synthetic leather one would hold up fine enough
Also the steering wheel is plastic/rubber not leather
It just makes the whole interior feels cheap when the dash is this material - which is a shame because the rest of the interior is pretty nice…and speaking of which lets talk about the best things about this new Colorado
-
The Best:
1 - the screens
Donning your dash behind your steering wheel is a segment exclusive 8 inch completely digital gauge cluster
The graphics are bright and crisp and you get some nice customizablity
But it doesn’t stop there
You also get a 11.3 inch screen for your center infotainment
Again, you’re not getting that anywhere else in this segment.
I really like the system here as well the animations are quick and fluid and it feels like working your phone
And since it’s so good they’ve brought things like the headlight controls into the center screen
Which I’m not sure how I feel about quite yet
But the screen is great
2 - The look
These midsize trucks are getting more muscular and rugged looking and the Colorado builds on that
It’s angular and agressive and muscular
The track is wider (esp in trailboss and zr2)
Th wheelbase is 3.1 inches longer
Trailboss has 2 inch lift
ZR2 has 3 inch lift
3 - the tailgate
GM and their tailgates man I swear…
HOWEVER, their multi pro tailgate in the Sierra was really nice
AND they’ve brought a nice little feature here too
The tailgate has a hidden compartment
48 inches long
4 inches deep
It doesn’t exactly lock so I wouldn’t put valuables in there, but it’s nice to have and makes use of space that would otherwise be wasted…reminds me of ram boxes but doesn’t eat into your bed space
4 - towing
The Colorado in its base power output has a max towing capacity of 3500 lbs
BUT in the middle and top output your towing increases to 7700 lbs which isn’t too shabby!
There’s also several cameras and assists for hitching and trailering
5 - Cameras
Not only are the cameras nice and bright and high resolution, but you get a lot of them!
You get 10 cameras for the 360 system
They’re great resolution
And the Z71 and ZR2 get an extra camera underneath to help you pick your line in trail
6 - ZR2 & Desert Boss
The incomignZR2 and Desert Boss are interesting additions to the segment
Of course the Colorado has offered and ZR2 for years and even a diesel ZR2 Bison
but now with the additional power, additional finesse and refinement it’s more compelling than ever
Will the Tacoma still sell more TRD Pros?
Probably. But that’s not because it’s a better truck…granted we haven’t been able to drive the ZR2 yet but based on this platform I expect some Toyota engineers to lose sleep…especially if the Taco is 2.4T only…
7 - Price
We’re going to make another reference to the Tacoma as it’s the segment sales leader
The Colorado starts in WT trim at $30,650
And if you go on the Toyota website that’s about what you’ll pay for a base SR5
The difference being the Colorado is a more modern and better equipped truck…especially at that price
Special thanks to our Patrons for their support of the channel! I quite like the new Colorado, but let me know what you think!
NEW COLRADO IS THE CLASS LEADER WITH ITS GMC CANYON VERSION .❤❤❤. OBVIOUSLY THE UPCOMING TACOMA WILL RETURN AS LEADER BUT Thats something for the future .
You should of studied the new 2.7 liter turbo charged engine. It’s has forged internals and diesel engine parts for durability.
the trailboss with a colour matched bumper would look killer
Ive always been a tacoma guy, and currently have had a 2016 trdoffroad since new. This new Colorado has me really pumped! Especially the ZR2. Depending on what packages Toyota comes out with at the end of the year on their new Tacoma, I may be making a switch to a zr2. Chevy really gave us more bang for our buck with this new Colorado. However, how reliable is this new Colorado going to be and will it hold a good resell value are the questions??? Currently my taco sits 121k at a trade-in value of 21k-24k and i have yet to have any mechanical issues with it. Chevy, you have delivered!
This truck is class leading. 430 lb/ft of torque is insane. It's more than the 5.3 silverado.
That 2.7 engine is really impressive
@2011buddylee That engine is only available in that trim. Tell me where I can get a mid-size truck with these figures under 40k?
Don't care how much power it has ....it's a 4 banger ina truck
@@B86432 SO WHAT .ITS A MID SIZE TRUCK And IT DOES NOT A NEED A V6 🙄.
@@2011buddylee RAPTOR IS A HIGH PERFORMANCE TRUCK SO IT DOES NOT RIVAL NORMAL MID SIZE TRUCKS .SO Dont POST SUCH DDUMB COMMENTS
I ordered the yellow z71 last week I have last year's model and love it but I always wanted the features the bigger trucks have minus the insane cost.
Z71 in my opinion offers the best experience I don't off road so it suits me I'm impressed with the upgrades especially the interior.
The biggest improvement that no one mentions is the rear shocks no longer hang lower than the differential and have been pushed to the sides. I wish the trail boss had at least a rear locker.
Yeah the rear suspension revisions are so much better for off-roading now👌 the trailboss does get the LSD and I did feel it shifting power during our trail ride. Not a full locker of course but still useful from what I experienced
They actually hang the same lol was never an issue just a talking point
Colorado's will top out at $70k CDN... asking that much for a 4 cylinder is criminal.
You could always go buy a v8 Silverado ZR2
@@chadbrinkley6358 Seems to me a full-size Silverado would make an even worse midsize truck
@@Daywalker_27 Much worse. 😂
Trucks in general are overpriced. My brother just bought a brand new Dodge Ram Limited. I have to admit the truck is spectacular inside and out.....but he paid $90K for it. Even if you can afford it, that is still way too much for a motor vehicle designed to get you from point A to point B. 30 years ago you could get a small house for that much. Insane.
I tow a small travel trailer that weighs 2,900 lbs loaded (Casita 17). Pondering a midsize vs a half-ton. The plan is to replace our current tow vehicle at the end of 2024. The Colorado/Canyon was the only mid-size truck that I would NOT consider. However, the new 2023 Colorado/Canyon is dead center on our radar now! Kudos to GM with this new truck. However, the true litmus test for me is reliability. If it ain’t reliable, I don’t want it!
I was told by Chevy they torture tested the powertrain and it held up 300,000 miles
The eight speed transmission they using in this has Federal class action lawsuit against it. Stay away unless you are leasing.
@@paulm6481 thank you. I have heard about its history. Wondering if the new generation will be any more reliable? I will monitor over the next 18 months before purchasing at the end of 2024.
@Dean May I heard chevy redesigned the 8 speed transmission making it better
@@rickmcmhan2296 I have read the same thing. Great! Look forward to a test drive at some point. Not in a rush. We are buying a new truck to tow our small camper at the end of 2024.
GM should of gave the new colorado a 4.3lv6 option
Chevrolet Colorado?
👎🏻
Toyota Tacoma?
👍🏻👌🏼
The new canyon and colorado are class leaders in every way ❤❤. Cant wait till the upcoming tacoma because its going to beat this but hey good competition is always good
@@2011buddylee FYI .OBVIOUSLY UPCOMING TACOMA IS GOING TURBO I4 And HYBRID NOTHING IS NEW THERE. UPCOMING TACOMA IS GOING TO BE BETTER .
I still prefer this over the new Tacoma's. The new Tacos are nice but you get more bang for your buck with this and imo this looks nicer inside and out.
@@user-rr3fo6hy9q NEW TACOMA has a better interior design exterior design power performance comfort and more.
That stowflex cargo area in the tailgate DOES lock. When the tailgate is closed it can’t be opened so no one can access it when you close and lock the tailgate. HTH.
#1 G80 locker instead of e locker on the trail boss
that is the look i want on my zr1 that is coming ., but i could not pick those rims , wheel well flair, and blacked out door handles. now i have to add them on but you can not online
I’m sure there will be a bunch of aftermarket support! Enjoy your new truck!
Thank you! I appreciate the information!
Where is this trail in San Diego?
The tailgate storage compartment does indeed lock, according to GM.
Correct, with the tailgate closed you can't open the storage compartment. So when you lock the tailgate, the storage compartment is locked as well.
That truck looks really good with the bulky black wheels and trim 👌
I keep hearing that highest output is flashable at the dealership. Is there change in fuel requirement post flash?
I'm loving the z71 trim
Yes! I did talk to an engineer about that and you can boost the power at the dealer. They didn’t say anything about a change in fuel but I would just confirm with your dealer
Still runs on 87 octane. The flash simply raises the boost from 20lbs for the turbo plus up to 30lbs with the HO.
@@coop4274 Is that 87 is ok and 91 is recommended or designed for 87?
@@ph00ny1 designed for 87 octane.
You complained about no sliders. Do you know there are so many ZR2 owners taking the sliders off for steps or a better slider that you cannot give them away? I been trying for a year to give mine away and those that do sell them only get couple hundred out of them.
Yeah, the old ones that don't mount to the frame, nobody wants those.
Love that new Colorado !
Mpg specs??
Doesn't all off road vehicles have easy cleaning plastic interiors
Yeah I think that was a strange comment. It's off road why would you want leather interior, etc? I think it comes from people that want all the off road stuff in case the apocalypse happens but in the mean time they want the comforts of a luxury vehicle on their way to their desk job. You can't have both. Either you want off road or you don't, so if you don't off road but you buy an off road truck, don't complain when the interior looks cheap.
Don’t order a gm vehicle if you plan on it being delivered in your life time. Ordered a 23’ colorado in January, my great grandkids might get it by the time they can drive.
What is the towing capacity on this Colorado trail boss ?
7,700 lbs.
With the tailgate closed and locked by key or remote the storage compartment cannot be opened, so there's your locked storage.
That assuming you have a lockable tonneau cover, then yes
@@dwnshft no need for a cover at all. Once the tailgate is closed that storage compartment can’t be opened. It’s only accessible with the tailgate fully open and in the down position.
It's inevitable that by end of 2023, all mid size trucks will pretty much feature the same 4 Cy turbo engine so at that point, it's all personal preference for styling between this, new ranger , tacoma and canyon. And tacoma has been due for a total rehaul for years....
Listen to the video and see how any times he compares it to Taco. There is a reason for that. Tacoma is proven, reliable, great resale value, and not overpriced. Taco all day every day.
You mean, the same compression ratio as the Ecoboost in the Raptor?
Your dislikes come on. You can move up the model line or option your needs. Spec it out online to take delivery or GMC.
Great vid... but, would you please pay attention to your lapel mic ? the screeching noise is so annoying.
I do apologize- the wind was howling and it was the best I could do without a bunch of wind noise or muddying the audio
BUY a toyota pick up, and i am an American....Anyone tells you different is billed as an advertisement from whoever....
I hope soon chevrolet colorado z71 and trailboss in the 🇵🇭 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
The drivetrain & front end are by far the worst the only good thing is the interior black painted rims on off road trims is just asking for trouble they will get destroyed after 1 season of trail running
Extremely overpriced for what it is. Plastic cabin, cheap materials, not even led lights. Typical GM trash job.
Tb doesn't even come with heated seats and cruise is an option lol
Yeah the interior on WT and trail boss was pretty tough, but the Z71 I was in earlier was pretty nice (gloss black being the only issue I had with it)
@@dwnshft yeah but you're paying for it with the z71
Why would you want a luxury interior on an off road truck? That makes zero sense. If you want luxury buy luxury. If you want off road buy off road but don't complain when the interior is plastic, it should be it's off road and is easy to clean. Just go buy a Mercedes G-class and you can have all the luxury and pretend to off road.
I feel like his points really hold no weight ur asking for what a zr2 has. On a lower trim and that scratch kn the plastic I don’t like leather it burns in the sun and is cold in the winter anyways that’s just my point mid video
is that truck for sale? a bird put a deposit on it
Typical GM quality.
