my mom was the contact paper queen in her day! I still have boxes that she beautified to stack pretty organization in your closet or for memoribilia. awesome!
THANK YOU for mentioning caulking! I see so many contact paper countertops where no caulking is used and all I can think about is how much water must get under them. SUCH a good, cheap tip. Extra important around areas that get wet often, like the sink.
Actually I didn mine without caulking and it never took in water or lifted either. If you take your time and let it stick appropriately with enough heat the adhesive holds so well that water isn’t an issue.
Have you ever heard of spraying the surface with soapy water before sticking the paper? We did that when replacing the camera paper tops on boat dashboards. It allowed me to move the paper and squeegee out bubbles easily. I don't know if the paper used in the video may be too thin.
I have already done three of my smaller countertops. Since they were on both sides of the stove, (heat) I first applied schmears of gorilla glue mainly near the edges and seams. I also lightly sanded and applied Polyurethane (rolled and tipped with a foam brush to remove any roller bubbles) all over the top...four times! Roughed up with 220 between coats. The finished surface is like glass...I am now preparing to do the long buffet counter (90") that separates my kitchen from the dining room. Patience and easy does it!! Love the blow dryer suggestion.
I have found using a hand held clothes steamer and a microfiber cloth. It works amazing for wrinkles and bubbles. Just be careful not to burn yourself. Use the steamer over the area first, pull the steamer away, then wipe the spot with the cloth and push the air to an edge to release it.
I did it in the rental I was in and it came out amazing. It definitely is durable. But like you said you have to search for the ones that are the best water and heat resistant. The 3 years I was there it never lost its shine, or it’s coloring. It withheld like a champ, and let me tell you we do a lot of cooking in my family. As you said it was so easy to clean off. Just like a nonstick pan.
I’ve been watching a million videos on how to update my kitchen countertops on a budget and I think this is the best solution! I can’t afford new ones right now so I was going towards painting them but that looks a lot messier. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂
Christina, a quick tip for caulking - if you add a couple of drops of dish soap in the water, it makes the caulking smooth out really easily. Nice job.
I have used a marble look contact paper in our master bathroom- which was a black laminate. It was tricky as their were 2 sinks. It worked - looks great and brightened up the room. It’s been almost a year and is holding up great.
This looks great! We're buying a house that needs a lot of updates/reno, so countertops are not too high on the list. I'm planning on doing this as a short-term fix until we can get real ones.
I jusy put all new handles on my cupboards in the kitchen And It's crazy how much of a difference just changing one little thing made.i immediately thought omg I need to change the counters. Lol there is no way I can afford it though so here I am! I'm excited I hope I don't f it up too much!
I've been using contact paper all my life on all sorts of surfaces and never heard of the hair dryer tip, that's very helpful! Thanks for the demo. 😊 👍
This brand is very durable! I paint on top of it everyday in my studio. I used this brand but in a bamboo wood style to cover a folding table that I converted into a drawing table for my art studio. I didn’t do the folding method on the sides. Instead, I measured it to fit perfectly, laid it down, and then finished the edges with small white tiles and grey grout-yep! I took it that far lol. Then, I wrapped silver yarn very tightly around the legs to elevate the look, and placed a wire basket with some extra brushes, paint, and some faux greenery underneath the table on each side. You would never know this wasn’t an expensive piece of furniture. I highly recommend the contact paper!
It’s so funny that this popped up this morning! I am working on helping my parents upgrade their kitchen at their office building and the counter top is...... less than desirable.... especially after we got new floors and painted the kitchen. I had sent my mom links to contact paper for the counter and we were talking about doing it in the spring when the weather is better and I paint the cabinets. Now I have a lot more information from you and something more to show her. Thank you!
Thank you you're a lifesaver!! I just got mine and when I started I thought iam ruining it..I started panicking but thanks to you it's really easy this way and now I have a perfectly installed one...
Looks fantastic, I would definitely use it in my little kitchen. I have a plain white countertop which stains so easily. This would be a great budget friendly solution for me! Thank you, from Australia 🇦🇺
You make this look so easy. I tried it on my cubicle desk and ended up with a sticky bunched roll of failure. I’m about to try take 2 (which is why I’m watching this), so with your tips may the odds be ever in my favor.
I truly appreciate the time, patience, simplicity nd clarity that you put into making this diy video. It really helps a first timer like myself to be willing to try nd apply this only to the top surface of an old dresser nd 2 nightstands once I've repainted it. Thanks 4 sharing 🙏🧡🌹
Thanks for a great video. The previous owner of my home tried to do a DYI marble look counter top using paint, and it's terrible! I want a live edge wood countertop, but don't have the $$ for that right now. So I'm considering doing this vinyl as a temporary measure until I can save for my wood slab counter. This definitely was more encouragement for me! Thank you.
I’m about to move into a rental and want to do it on the kitchen which has granite. Do you think it will come off easily when I need to remove it? Great to hear it looks good on granite!
@@larivilchez It comes off super easy!! :) I did it in my room when I lived with my parents. About to do it again in my very first apartment! It leaves little to no residue when you take it off too! And the residue it leaves, is suuuuper easy to remove!
I did this on the countertops in the first house my husband and I bought. In 1974! The counters were ugly and it made a huge difference. I don't think any of the thicker ones were available back then. Recently, I bought a high boy dresser to paint black and discovered the drawer fronts were plastic. No matter what I did, the drawer fronts looked bad. I got a thicker black woodgrain one to cover and the difference in how it looks is amazing! Now, it looks pretty classy! BTW, great tutorial! You covered everything I learned in the process. The blow dryer works great. My drawer fronts have a curved bow front and using the blow dryer to make it stretch a little over the drawer top and bottom kept me from having creases and folds. Patience while doing it is very helpful as you have to do a little at a time.
I did almost all my kitchen then had to get another roll as the one they sent me was half ruined from it being rolled in to a roll for packaging. I then saw a video about hair drying as I also got different paper for my kitchen doors and what a difference it makes!! Prevents it from coming away on corners and round edges as well!
To be honest, I love that wooden countertop. It is gorgeous! I wouldn't cover it with contact paper. Well at least it is temporary so you can switch it up. I'm thinking of using this application for my horrendously unappealing granite laminate in my second bathroom. Nobody ever sees this bathroom but my husband and me, so I haven't done much with it. This seems like the perfect inexpensive way to make it look nicer.
This video is extremely helpful! I'm about to move into a new apartment that was built in the 1950s and it has dated, ugly tile countertops and cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom! Thanks!
Yes I will use this. You made it look so easy. My grandson just moved into a small rental.., it needs some attention. Look out contact here comes Gram. Wish me luck
I LOVE IT! I installed faux granite contact paper on my kitchen counters. NO ONE CAN BELIEVE it is fake! That was probably 2 years ago. It is looking a bit "used" in some spaces. I use essential oils and when the oil gets on the "paper" it has "removed" the design in those spots. So, yeah. But I got the paper on a HUGE clearance sale for $5 bucks a roll and bought the two rolls that were on this sale. It has been a REAL blessing. My actual counters are an avocado green color that I have despised for 8 years. So now, 10 years later since I began renting this home, it is time to try MARBLE! teehee! I am going to be ordering some of this paper you have shared! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Love using contact paper, I did both my bar and bathroom in my basement with marble contact paper. Wish I had the hair dryer trick when I did it. It has been over a year and it has held up really well.
I am definitely considering doing this in my kitchen! I rent and the counters ate really old and ugly. There's no way I can afford to replace them and not to mention the tacky plastic backsplash! This is a great solution for my. Thanks👍
Awesome presentation, awesome finished table! I watched your video because I suck at this! I've only been doing 15 things wrong....... you're a lifesaver. Thanks!
Hi I've been installing contact paper for well over 25 years in my own rentals when I was younger we moved around not a lot but more than we want it but I was looking for a place to call home sadly I couldn't find it until now. Over the years I became excellent and installing contact paper and Border paper and for the first time ever I watch your episode with the blow dryer and that was like oh my god I've never thought of that it was like riding a bike for the first time!! Seriously thinking of doing this to my kitchen. My countertops are almost 20 years old. The previous owner burned the laminate and now we have additional stains from 11 years of use. Also, I do tired of the yellowy beige color. This might be able to hold me over until we can afford to remodel our kitchen as you said in the video.
This is inspiring. In my craft room I have the plain with hollow core table top from IKEA.... I think I’m going to do THIS to snaz it up a bit. Surely this is more easily cleaned than those...
I’ve been watching you a few months and I’m really enjoying your videos. Just thought I’d stop by and say so. Looking forward to seeing what else you do this year.
Thanks so much for the tips I have some I want to try on my main bathroom. Definitely thinking about epoxying it since that’s my kids bathroom. But we are updating on a budget and hubs said no new counters but the counter clashes with the wall and cabinet colors my kids have picked and the flooring that I picked so definitely worth a try!
Great video. My granddaughter and her husband used this type of countertop. They did a good job but should have watched your video for more detail. For there 1st time it looks good.
I am sprucing up my bathroom and want to do the contact paper for now til I can get a new vanity. I have never done contact paper so wish me luck lol. Ty for your video. Any advice on backsplash on my vanity?
Thank you so much for making this video! You answered all my questions! I really appreciate the care you took in filming and creating such quality content! You’re the best!! Got my rolls and can’t wait to get started
I’m about a year late but the base of the island would look amazing black. It would give the yin and Yang effect and make the island even more cohesive with the counters and cabinets. It looks amazing like it is as well.
I found this video after I bought marble looking contact paper and needed to know exactly how to apply it. To my surprise, I bought the same brand you recommended! How convenient? 😆😃
I've seriously been thinking about putting some down. Master bathroom and the kitchen & the bar. Diffenly would use it because of the price. We are in a doulewide mobliehome and we cant afford the real thing. Thanks for showing how to install. 💛🌻
the larger flat areas are much simpler to get done and cut/seal corners, it’s when it comes to sink tops with cut outs for faucets, drains, electric outlets, etc is where things get very tricky.. we have very nice calico granite in our kitchen with natural untreated wood cabinets but she insists on black marble counters and open pore black cabinets.. the cabinets i can afford.. the granite? ahaha this was lovely and got the job done fun diy project that can be reversed 7-8 months down the line when you’re ready for the real thing. great to get used to the look and see how it fits the home.
Thank you so much for all the tips and info! I will definitely be installing contact paper in my rental home. I just wish that I had known about this sooner!!
Just get extra paper and redo it if that happens. I’m just about to do my kitchen for the 3rd time in a month or so. First time it looked crappy, 2nd much better but I’ve decided to do it a little darker. The white shows every air bubble and of course I can’t not stare at them. It makes me irritable. So….3rd times a charm. I buy the cheaper paper so basically it’s just my time I’m wasting. And I have fun doing it so….there’s that. Anyway, you should do it. If u don’t like it, take it off. It’s not permanent! JUST DO IT!!!! Lol!
Your video was extremely helpful. You did a great job explaining and describing. Thank you. My plan is to do my countertops in my kitchen, and have already got my contact paper. I appreciate you taking the time to do this informative video.
It worked really well. I got to say though i did have a little trouble on the corners of the back splash. I'am pleased though with the results. So i say go for it. 😊
Thank you for your video! I am definitely going to do this. I'm going to be using black marble contact paper. I am so excited! What's the worst that can happen? I have to peel it back off LOL. Love these kind of DIYs❤
This has come at a perfect time as I am doing this !! This is very popular in the UK. I am thinking for making a template for the sink you could use leftover backing too? Great tutorial. Thank you ! 🙂❤️
That was great! I used the exact paper in my little pantry on the shelves. I wish I had known about the blow dryer technique to make it wrap around the edges. ( that Part was a pain)
It really looks awesome!! Thanks for the tips, I can see myself using this on some surfaces in my craft room!! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the weekend 😉 💖
It is a nice budget solution but I wouldn't tempt it on my large breakfast bar. I'm fussy to perfection, plus mine has 5 angles and has another angle between top and side edges. Besides, I use mine for my worktop and I can imagine glue, paint, and whatever could possibly make indentations. I'd have hives 😔. You do a great application and it does look nice on the other hand, Christina! 🙌
This would be a great way for a small independent store to update fittings too! Lots of retail fittings and displays can look very dated, but also very expensive to replace. This could work in the interim. X
I really messed up on chalk painting my living room end tables...they look terrible...so I think I’m going to try putting contact paper on them now! Thanks!!
Can't believe that me, 54 year old male, would seek this specific video! We sure change over decades!! Cheers!

You can Glaze with Diamond Finish Clearcoat and it will be hard as a rock and last forever. It's expensive but, will give you a more permanent fix and doesn't yellow. Need a lot of ventilation. It will look like glass and real marble......

You can also put on glaze coat from Lowe's it helps with water, oil, heat up to 450 degrees, also looks beautiful.

For smaller pesky air bubbles, it helps to take a very fine needle and puncture them ever so slightly so that you can push out the air with a spatula afterwards. Once they are all out, a sealant to top it off (such as Dee suggested below) prevents anything from penetrating back into that pinhole. :) This looks like a fun project! Thank you for sharing!

I purchased and plan on doing this to my current kitchen while I save up for a new kitchen. You did great!
This is inspiring. In my craft room I have the plain with hollow core table top from IKEA.... I think I’m going to do THIS to snaz it up a bit. Surely this is more easily cleaned than those...
I had my kitchen cupboards covered in a gorgeous white vinyl which has silver glitter in. Makes such a difference
I’ve been watching you a few months and I’m really enjoying your videos. Just thought I’d stop by and say so. Looking forward to seeing what else you do this year.
Thank you for watching!
Great installation tips, I'm going to try this in my kitchen until I install new counters or sell my home.
Love the look. I have under mounted sinks. Will it work, if applied to the inside rim of the sink?
I JUST LOVE THE LOOK EVERYTHING LOOKS AMAZING
Great video. My granddaughter and her husband used this type of countertop. They did a good job but should have watched your video for more detail. For there 1st time it looks good.
That's great!
Looks amazing. I would have never guessed that it was a real marble countertop.
I am sprucing up my bathroom and want to do the contact paper for now til I can get a new vanity. I have never done contact paper so wish me luck lol. Ty for your video. Any advice on backsplash on my vanity?
I saw somebody use epoxy after they lay down the peel and stick and they look really really nice
Wow, you answered every question I have about this process. This was such a helpful video - thank you!!
You can also put glaze coat from Lowe's two coats, it works for higher heat the 170, also water, oil etc. Looks vantastic as well.
the larger flat areas are much simpler to get done and cut/seal corners, it’s when it comes to sink tops with cut outs for faucets, drains, electric outlets, etc is where things get very tricky.. we have very nice calico granite in our kitchen with natural untreated wood cabinets but she insists on black marble counters and open pore black cabinets.. the cabinets i can afford.. the granite? ahaha
this was lovely and got the job done
fun diy project that can be reversed 7-8 months down the line when you’re ready for the real thing.
great to get used to the look and see how it fits the home.
You did a good job, thanks for the hair dryer
This is so beautiful! I love the idea of using blow dryer! You did a wonderful job!💕
You should also get the counter wet before putting down the paper to help you move the paper around to get it perfect before sticking it completely.
Thank you so much for all the tips and info! I will definitely be installing contact paper in my rental home. I just wish that I had known about this sooner!!
Looks great! Would love to do this but im scared i forget its on and end up putting a hot pot on it.
Lol!
🙌🏽 Phenomenal deliverance!! 🤩 I’m encouraged to upgrade on a small budget 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I would totally install contact paper in my home to upgrade and beautify💝
Your video was extremely helpful. You did a great job explaining and describing. Thank you. My plan is to do my countertops in my kitchen, and have already got my contact paper. I appreciate you taking the time to do this informative video.
How did it turn out? I want to try this.
Wish i had thought of this 2 years ago while I waiting for my new kitchen! About to install my new kitchen in 2 months or I'd order right now lolol
This has come at a perfect time as I am doing this !! This is very popular in the UK. I am thinking for making a template for the sink you could use leftover backing too? Great tutorial. Thank you ! 🙂❤️
That's a great idea!
That was great! I used the exact paper in my little pantry on the shelves. I wish I had known about the blow dryer technique to make it wrap around the edges. ( that Part was a pain)
I never thought about caulking. Love it. Also the corner cut makes more sense. 🥰
Awesome been eying up refinishing the top of my painted kitchen table as it’s white so so dirty.
It looks great!! Thanks for giving us the tricks for a wonderful install! Yes, I would use it in a temporary fix.
Thanks for saving my life! You explained every step and the secrets perfectly! XO
Soooo excited to make over my new home! Thanks for the tips!!!
This would be a great way for a small independent store to update fittings too! Lots of retail fittings and displays can look very dated, but also very expensive to replace. This could work in the interim. X
Absolutely! It's a great interim solution :)
Love this. Such a great idea, if you can’t change counter tops right away. I just might give it a try on something smaller.
😀❤️🇨🇦
Will be doing this on the counter of my little RV. Thanks!
Thank you! Good info! I'm going to use that exact type for my kitchen.
Thanks for suggesting how to stick this helped a lot
I really messed up on chalk painting my living room end tables...they look terrible...so I think I’m going to try putting contact paper on them now! Thanks!!
I did the same thing with the chalk paint. I hope the contact paper works for you! What a great idea!!
