Nice tutorial video; there are many who don't know how to clean suede like leathers. This also made me think of the suede boat shoes I had in my teens, that I would have to clean every so often. I have thought about getting pair of suede/roughout/nubuck boots.

Good vídeo, Nubuck is the top grain sanded down still the top grain leather just a sanded surface. Rough out is top grain turned inside out (like putting a sock inside out)still top grain leather but with the flesh side out. Suede is leather split, they split the leather down the middle to get the corium hairy part exposed, it is thinner as the top grain has been removed. You can take care of all three the same with cleaners and conditioners made for suede. If you like that nappy hairy look do not use conditioners for smooth leather it will kill the nap. Out of all 3 Roughout is the strongest and more durable. Get a suede brush with the brass bristles to comb the nap and keep it looking good. Some people apply wax to suede and like textured leather to waterproof them. They sell some shoes and boots with waxed roughout leather( waxed flesh leather) It took me a while to figure out the differences the proper way to take care of my boots. Your recommendations to use cleaners and conditioners design for this type of leather will help the wondering eyes of those who got their first pair of roughout, Nubuck or suede.

I thinks that might be accurate but i think the 2nd layer is suade and so on and so forth until you get to the Roughout at the end

@@cowboybootshatsandwesternl9663 ah man, my whole life’s upside down now haha jk. I thought suede was only the inner part of the hide, cut and separated from the outer part of the hide to make it cheaper, and rough out was the whole hide but turned inside out ?

@@DanBCooper yep but if you still want the exotic hide to look exotic they basically sand it into a suede so that second layer that way let’s say it’s a Caiman Belly you can still see the caiman shape, but you also see the little fuzz on it and it looks more matt

Glad I found your video, I actually have a pair of rough out boots that I have on order and was wondering how I can treat them to be stain and water resistant. Great tutorial.

I have many full grain leather cowboy boots. But I just received my first pair of roughout boots. The Fergus by Justin boots. I love them but really want to make sure I protect them and care for them as I do my other pairs of leather boots. Which I wear my boots for work, play and dress. As tough as roughout can be I feel there is still an importance to care for them. Especially the colour of a tan or lighter coloured pair. My question is, is that protectant spray also a conditioner of sorts? Great content and thanks for the info! Cheers from a Canadian cowboy 🍻🇨🇦🤠👍🏻

      Thank you very much.
What I can say is that the protectant only ads a sort of a film layer to not let water or other things sip through.
I personally don’t really condition my Roughout because I feel they could go through the ringer and not have any problem but there is spray Roughout and suede conditioner you can use so I recommend if your going to use the spray conditioner and protectant first start by applying the conditioner then wait about an hour before applying the protectant.
      Thanks for the support.

Roughout is the same as normal leather, just turned inside out.

Rough out is the flesh side of the leather all they do is turn it around I think it’s the best because cuts don’t open up as much

I have an old water stain on my Ariat nubuck boots. I've tried a spray cleaner and cleaned them but the stain is still there. Any suggestions on how to get it out? Maybe I didn't do something right.?
