    I was looking for a meal with burger, Velveeta cheese. I found this after I decided to just throw everything in my burger. Cream of mushroom , corn, diced tomatoes with green chilies, green beans, some crushed red peppers and garlic added elbow mac. It tastes really good. I can not cook. And everyone loves it. Go me. Lol

    My mother is 91 and has forgotten many of the recipes she used when we kids were growing up. Mom watched this video together and she got very excited when you got to the part about omitting the dairy. you had just made the "goulash" us kids still talk about! You made my Mom's day and we are making this tonight, sans dairy. I want to say how much I enjoy your channel and you. Thanks!

    This was called “goulash” in my house growing up! I make it now as my comfort food! I most of the time leave out the cheese and add egg noodles instead of macaroni...delicious!

      Right? My homemade cheeseburger Mac is nothing like this lol this looks like goulash to me

      In your opinion.. goulash is made different by everybody.. just like meatloaf

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому +9

      @@EpicKman316 Yes, it is, but in my experience and the feedback from tons of people who make Goulash all the time, the flavors are different. A little more like spaghetti in flavor than cheeseburger macaroni. I don't get caught up on what anyone calls anything, make food the way you want to and love it. I just don't want people to expect the flavor of a goulash when this really isn't that flavor at all.

    I made this a few times and its phenomenal!! The ONLY thing i do a little different, is saute my onions first till the brown a little then add some a clove or 2 of fresh coppped garlic (i love garlic lol)

  • @yogizorch
    @yogizorch 3 роки тому +11

    That looks delicious. I've always made mine pretty plain. I always cook the macaroni separate and only use salt and pinch of pepper on the hamburger meat and onions. I also use a can of diced tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce to make it a little thicker. I usually hold back a bit of the cooked macaroni to add cheese to. I like red pepper flakes in mine also.

    Thru the tomatoes in the food processer and I thru in 1 chopped up garlic clove 2nd time I made it .. Family loved it even more .. Thanks for the new dinner idea 👌👌👌

  • @BarryPiper
    @BarryPiper 3 роки тому +4

    I've made this three times now and the first two trials were a bit too tangy (ketchupy) even after neutralizing all the acid with a pinch of baking soda. Trial #1 used tomato paste and #2 used a half can condensed tomato soup for thickening. Trial #3 was the best, using half a block of cream cheese to thicken. I kept the Worcestershire but omitted both vinegars and the result was still pleasing and hit the 'comfort food' spot just right. Instead of salting it, I sprinkled on some of that cheese powder used on popcorn.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      Glad you tweaked it so you enjoy it! I would say the original version is a bit tangy and that is by design, but certainly not a flavor everyone will love.

    Saw this and thought I’d go ahead and make it today since I had all the ingredients on hand. I did have to make one substitution though -I didn’t have fire roasted tomatoes, so I used two small cans of Rotel Tomatoes. Gave the dish a little spicy kick! Still turned out great. Thanks for the recipe.

Thank you! even though I subbed ground chicken, chicken broth and ketchup in place of vinegar and tomato paste this turned out so flavourful, I'm never going back to the box again! in case this helps anyone else, watch the salt, the broth and canned tomato would have been salty enough for me

      You're going to love it! We use ours every day because reheating is so easy, too. Don't invest in a lot of fancy extras. But I do like my silicone sling that I use with a simple round cake pan. We use that a lot for reheating. I used a notebook and put in the recipes I found and where I found them so I had them handy. I also gave away my rice cooker. Have fun here!! Louise is amazing!!

      jimmy21480 I’ve had American Chop Suey/Goulash many times and the flavors in this dish are completely different, but delicious.

      Of course, you can add anything you like. You can also change the seasonings for a taco seasoning and make a Tex Mex version.

    This reminds me more of cheesy spaghetti rather than hamburger macaroni and cheese.

      It's nothing like spaghetti, the flavors are completely different. Hope you give it a try!

    Can’t wait to make it, do you have to cook the noodles separately or can you cook them in the pan with everything else ?

      Do you cook them in the same pan with the meat everything

      @@deetremonti5161 I made it in one pan, starting with cooking the ground beef, then putting in the pasta and water, once the pasta was done I threw in the shredded cheese with the other ingredients

    Would like kosher options for this: real meat and non-dairy cheese substitutes.

      You can use any ground meat that you like and use what you normally use for a cheese substitute as long as it melts. you can also skip the meat and cheese.
