Devastating Light Show! Heavy Large Laser Cougar - Mechwarrior Online The Daily Dose

  • The Cougar is one of the latest additions to MWO and feels very similar to the Adder. While not beingthe fastest Light Mech on the Battlefield it can load a lot of equipment and therefore bring some serious firepower to the fights.
    In today's build I want to show you the strength of the Heavy Large Lasers. This weapon deals a lot of damage compared to it's weight but it also has a long laser duration and builds up a lot of heat. But is is the perfect wepon for Mechs with limited weight capacity.

    every molten video
    1. Rush in to fight.
    2. Get damaged and messed up.
    3. "Ughhh i should not have done that!"
    4. Avoid direct conflict.
    5. Manage to pull a win.

    • @oogalook
      @oogalook 7 років тому +6

      Seraph Basarab That is the exact formula to win matches, slight regret notwithstanding. He spends his armor early in the fight to support an aggressive opening and thus to gain a kill lead, and then, once he is damaged, he pulls to the second line to bear his firepower without being taken out of the fight. If you hang back the whole fight, you don't help your buddies get that vital early numbers advantage. If you stay on the front when you have almost no armor, you aren't defending anybody and you die early, taking all your firepower off the field. Do as Baradul does, and you will win pretty often.

      Actually Molten Metal forgets tactics from time to time.
      Do many frontal assaults when he could have flank the enemy.
      Then when he maxed out heat, he doesn't reposition himself. He stands and waits for cool down.
      Then an smaller mechs he tries to go in for the kill and gets himself blown up.
      One match, I think a Shadow Cat, he was brilliant. Sadly I could only 'like' that video once!
      I watch on my cell phone. Don't have ISP where I live in the country outside of Dallas Tx.
      One day I hope to meet him in battle.

    Have you considered using the mechassault loadout?
    2x srm4, lbx5, 4x small pulse lasers, ecm and 2 1/2 tons ammo for missiles and shotgun.
    I've only just purchased the cougar D for myself and it's a lot of fun.

    I know this is old, Baradul - and maybe someone mentioned it in the extensive comments already - but I think if you just include the Cougar-C Left Arm, you get a bonus of +10 points of extra Armor that this particular Arm has on it. It's not much, of course, but since we only use it to shield (in this setup), and house those extra Heat Sinks, it could prove useful in some instances (more Armor IS more Armor, after all). Other than that, an excellent and very hard-hitting-for-a-Light setup ! Bravo :-)

    Wow. That stealth armor makes a HUGE difference.

    • @oogalook
      @oogalook 7 років тому +1

      VorKragresh It's fun! But, by the same token of emitting no heat signature, you get super hot while it's active. It also requires two slots in every component but the CT, which can jimmy up your equipment placement.

    • @VorKragresh
      @VorKragresh 7 років тому +1

      Pros and Cons, just like any other equipment I suppose.

    • @EliPorterMahn
      @EliPorterMahn 7 років тому

      VorKragresh clan mechs don't have the option to use stealth armor.

    • @EliPorterMahn
      @EliPorterMahn 7 років тому

      Using two slots in each component is so arbitrary and silly they need to just make it take up slots like anything else.

  • @ArthurIdrisov

    It wasn't a stealth armor build. When he was close your HUD showed some jamming effect of a nearby active enemy ECM. Stealth armor on the other hand do not affect enemy HUD.

    • @Kill2Blit
      @Kill2Blit 6 років тому +1

      Stealth armor will show the same effects as ECM when up close. It's often how I find stealth armor campers at the end of a game.

    If you get the full 15% laser duration nodes, the heavy large laser has a total beam duration of 1.31 seconds, which is slightly less than a standard ERLL. If you divide the duration by the damage, it has the highest burn DPS of all the clan lasers. I haven't experimented with it much yet, but I'm thinking of giving this a shot: mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=280&l=d975675460173220ae007ac3b51cf073d619afea

    Love dual large heavy lasers, but the Shadowcat can do the same thing at 100kph with light mgs to finish mechs off late-game. Not seeing the advantages of a cougar for this build, unless you really have to be in a light.

    I'd like to see you try a mid-range fire support build with autocannons and ATMs. UAC10s and ATMs seem like they'd have some pretty good synergy and damage output for aggressive, brawly fire support builds. I've had some moderate success doing something like this with my TImberwolf, but I don't really have the stable of mechs to find the optimal platform for this sort of load out and play style.

    Super Video ! Du hast es nicht verlernt die Light´s zu spielen ;-)
    Light´s sind meiner Meinung nach die Königinnen des Schlachtfeldes......
    "sensibel wie eine Seifenblase, unberechenbar und zickig aber wissen genau wo es Aua macht !"
    (Jeder Mann der eine Scheidung hinter sich hat weiss was ich meine ;-) )
    Das handling von den Kleinen ist halt das schwerste im Spiel aber wenn man es erst mal verstanden hat, macht es mehr Spaß als die fetten Malborro-Wannen.

    Personally I found myself having a lot of fun with 2 Heavy Large lasers, and 4 Heavy Medium Lasers and an ECM. The remainder of the mech is filled with heatsinks. Its a bit of a bear with the heat management BUT you pull 76 damage with an alpha. Once fully skilled it gets to about 76% heat with one alpha. but either way, murder is murder.

  • @bruceh72

    My build has the traditional tech arm, 3er meds, 1lpl, it's somewhat cooler, faster cd, inspite lower damage.
    But on the other hand, heavy large lasers are good on small/agile mechs for hunting heavies and assualts that are currently meta.
    Thx for the daily dose, I rly like the fact that you make non-standard builds plus make them work.
    You are "Professor Mech".

    Should I sell my Panther if I want to poptart better? I've been thinking to replace him with a poptarting Shadowhawk.

    • @BlueWizi
      @BlueWizi 7 років тому

      B - eepz If poptarting is your thing, yes. They're very different mechs though. The Panther is a really bad light for poptarting cuz it has such low arm hard points.
      The Shadowhawk is great, cuz it has super high weapon mounts. But if you wanna stick with lights, the Raven 4X or Urbie are the way to go.

      KingChuckles I have one and put a lot of skills into mobility to give it back its agility. Kenetic burst and hard brake and turn and all that jazz will bring it to where it needs to be. Also utilize the masc and the classic SRMs and LB 20 with medium pulse lasers works great.
      The hardest thing about playing the spirit bear is that everybody wants to kill you. Lead the push, call for the push first and in the immortal words of Bruce Lee, move like water.

    6:45 "my armour on the right arm is now red"
    I haven't played in a while but isn't the paper doll presented front? So the red arm is the left one?

    • @SierraSierraFoxtrot
      @SierraSierraFoxtrot 7 років тому

      OMG since when is your mech's paper doll reversed and the enemy is not?!
      This stupid BS is why I quit the game. Please someone tell me you can change this in the settings...

    • @BlueWizi
      @BlueWizi 7 років тому +2

      SierraSierraFoxtrot Your paper doll is displayed from your perspective inside the cockpit. Left is on the left, right is on the right, like normal.
      The enemy paper doll is flipped, so that it has the same orientation as if you were looking at the enemy from the front. Which is the most common way you'll engage a target.
      It makes complete sense dude. When you're looking at another person IRL, their right is on your left and vice verses.

    • @SierraSierraFoxtrot
      @SierraSierraFoxtrot 7 років тому

      It ain't normal. It's horrid. The epitome of bad UI having a different method for the enemy and myself.
      I could swear when i used to play both were like the enemy is now.
      So glad I quit. I just watch now and don't have to get really angry.

    • @BlueWizi
      @BlueWizi 7 років тому +3

      SierraSierraFoxtrot The fuck? How is it bad UI? That's how fucking sides work dude. When you shake someone's hand, you both stick out your right hand, which are opposites when you face each other.
      It wouldn't make any sense if they flipped the damage grid.
      Also it's always been like this. Since beta. And you know. In real life.

  • @ref4nej2
    @ref4nej2 7 років тому +2

    It's just too bad that heavy large lasers suck in general and aren't worth it on most other clan mechs. Needs a cooldown and/or duration buff
    Eg. Heavy Large Laser vs 3 CERMLs
    3 slots - 3 slots
    4 tons - 3 tons
    18 dmg - 21 dmg
    16 heat - 18.9 heat
    5.75 cd - 3.75 cd
    1.55 dur - 1.25 dur
    450(900) range - 400(800) range
    In most cases, it's better to take the ermls, even after they've already been nerfed again. There is no standout niche for the weapon other than mechs with few energy slots, which is pretty lame.

    • @Blackthorn0451
      @Blackthorn0451 7 років тому

      Yes, the LHLs are extremely inefficient in all aspects. I think all heavy lasers need a slight buff, though I have had some success with the smaller heavy lasers. Mediums, despite their terrible burn time, are a pretty decent damage to tonnage value. I've found they work OK as backup firepower on mid-range dakka builds.

    • @TimberWulfIsHere
      @TimberWulfIsHere 7 років тому +2

      Can't Stump The Trump heavy larges benefit mechs with limited energy slots, such as mechs with only one or 2 energy slots like a spirit bear, even though i wouldnt put them on mine

  • @AtemiRaven

    I find the cougar is kind of useless. It is incredibly slow and not made up for by armor in the slightest. I much prefer the adder running heavy mediums as it is more sneaky and has more energy slots.

    I think if there's one thing I legitimately dislike about the game, is that it takes so long for mecs to end up on the store. Is there in game MC generation or something? Because it makes no sense to me.

    • @telmosilva9161
      @telmosilva9161 7 років тому

      It's how PGI makes money, selling mechpacks. But you are right, from the civil war pack the MDII pack takes 10 months from being announced to the time i goes out for c-bills.

    • @Ishlacorrin
      @Ishlacorrin 7 років тому +1

      There is in game MC gen for units that take planets in Faction Warfare play but also you often get MC from events tho it's only a small amount. The main reason for the slow release is for PGI to generate funds by those players who cannot wait for C-Bills. As a free to play game they need someway to get cash to keep it open after all.
