I never saw that PokeDex entry for Magcargo before. Why I don't get is that it says water vaporizes on contact with its body, yet it's doubly weak to Water-types.

Think of how many times pikachu shocks Ash in the anime, Why isn't he dead? Is Pikachu dramatically weaker?

+CometFire321 Steam erupts because water saps energy (heat) from lava when they touch or get close, which also causes it to cool and harden.
Magcargo, like Slugma, uses it's internal lava to carry nutrients. We can also assume that, like Slugma, when their body cools it hardens and falls off which would cause not only physical damage, but also lower it's ability to transport nutrients!
I can't believe the drying pan joke hasn't gotten old yet.
I think yanmega is an absolute gold mine of creepy pokedex entries. check out this gem from BW2 and X, and OR

6:50 maybe that's why omastar went extinct. maybe shelldar used to be its food source and has a softer shell, but over time shelldar developed a stronger shell and omastar couldn't eat it anymore, so it died out.
Also 'to crack open a shell' especially when referring to bivalves like clams and oysters can mean to pry open the shell; often also called shucking. A common tactic used by squids and octopuses is to use the suction cups on their tentacles to rip clams and oysters open.

It's like a young imaginative boy is the one writing these dex entries. They over exaggerate so much on what these creatures can do, yet we rarely ever see them do any of what their dex entries say.

In Macargo's defense its been proven that pokemon can turn off certain things like in that Ponyta episode where Ash gets on a ponyta and the lady says that ponyta can make the fire not hurt humans if it feels comfortable with the human, it works the same with macargo, maybe he chooses not to burn through earth or evaporate the little girl hugging it

Perhaps Omastar being unable to crack Shellder's shell is why it went extinct in the first place. Shellder's shells evolved (as in natural selection not pokemon evolution) to become to tough so Omastar lost its food source.

I think it should be remembered that the Pokedex is not a fact based info machine but one that uses facts, rumors, myths, legends and theories... and mixes them together, rarely (though not never) identifying which is which... that said, while I think the Pokemon world is similar to our world, it's probably a lot more powerful...

It can kinda be inferred that any Pokedex entry that includes "It is said" or "Old legends say" or whatever isn't true because in Japan it's said that foxes lived for hundreds of years, tanuki could carry seeds in their testicles, and that paper walls could grow eyes if they had enough holes... Those are terrifying though and even if those aren't true there are some that aren't even supposed to be old legends that are way more terrifying.

My theory is that temperatures work a lot differently in the Pokemon games making things like how hot or melting someone is have much weaker power than it would in our world. Though if this is true than any fire type Pokemon being in our world would bring about the end times

Pokémon could actually take this Golbat thing even further. Vampire bats themselves are harmless, they rarely bite us but when they do they don't drink nearly enough blood to harm us. They can transmit rabies though which kills a good amount of livestock annually. That's a good story for Golduck.

I think Omastar's entry might be referring to Shellder from it's time, whereas over time, Shellder might have adapted to have a stronger shell. I could be wrong but oh well.

Love me a metagross, big ol goofy robot! Also the fact that Metagross hunts down prey makes me wonder what he even eats. Does he go after steel/electric types? I feel like a robot would munch on electric types? Man, I dunno, I don't usually think indepth about what wild Pokémon eat tbh

Jigglypuff: When this Pokémon sings, it never pauses to breathe. If it is in a battle against an opponent that does not easily fall asleep, Jigglypuff cannot breathe, endangering its life.
Also, I learned that caterpie weighs about as much as your average house cat, Metapod weighs around that of a toddler, and butterfree, witch I always liked to imagine would sit on my arm or shoulder, is about half my weight.

Fungi is plural, JWittz. The singular is fungus. That said Parasect is one of the most interesting Pokémon in my opinion.

If you have an interest in the lore of legendary pokemon, you should check out the "Blessed and Damned" expansion of Pokemon Tabletop United. PTU is a tabletop RPG based off of pokemon (Basically Pokemon D&D) and the Blessed and Damned book deals with treating legendary pokemon as gods. In that context, the number of each legend varies. It claims that some of the lower pantheon (Such as the Birds and the Beasts) actually have one of each per continent. Higher pantheons such as Ho-Oh, Groudon, and Arceus are one of a kind. Stranger still is the Lake Trio, which according to the book are the most common legends because Arceus created them to defeat other legends (Specifically Regigigas, who went on a rampage when humans began domesticating pokemon).
The book also has interesting takes on the Unown Hive and even Missingno.
