Infuriating. Every boy that disregarded Tim and did not call for help after seeing the state he was in should be expelled from that school and spend time in jail. There's no excuse for what they allowed to happen. Disgusting people.
They should make a show called “undercover frat boy” where they hire actors/agents to pretend to join frats and bust them for hazing and shut them all down
My mother had a tear fall down her face after I sang an Irish goodbye song to her while she was on life support. she always said she loved hearing me sing it in choir so I figured it was fitting. The nurses were crying hearing me sing it to her.
I was doing a clinical placement in a dementia ward, one patient never spoke yet when I put some lovely classical music on they spoke a 5/6 word sentence to me and had tears in their eyes. Unless I was working they were often left alone in silence in their room looking up at the ceiling... I'm sure that's absolutely damaging to one's brain and mental state.
please cover more of these cases again closer to the start of the fall semester!! it’s good to have awareness fresh in their minds before moving on campus!
@@MileHigherplease look into the case of Sanda Dia in Belgium who died at the hands of an Elite fraternity’s hazing. Next to no justice received for a torturous and merciless death
@@MileHigher I am in Greek life on a small campus and we heavenly value the importance of NOT hazing and hurting our members. I will be sharing this episode with other Greeks at my school. If you cover more cases you should do it during national hazing provention week. We also talked about Tim’s case during that week.
This kind of behavior isn't hazing, it's committing litteral torture. I'm so gut wrenched by this case. That poor child... my heart breaks for his parents- to know what he went through before his death. Damn..
i just graduated from penn state last month. i took the gen ed called anthropology of alcohol where tim’s parents came to speak and you could hear a needle drop in a room of 700 students. thanks for sharing this story
The fact that Tim was literally DYING for hours while not one of those jerks did anything to actually help him is heartbreaking. Every single one of them that hit him, pushed him, stepped over him and ignored him while he died should have served time. I can’t imagine what he was going through while his body gave out slowly and painfully. I’m so sorry for what he and his family endured, this is devastating.
Exactly, I can’t imagine how terrified he felt when every time he became conscious in immense pain he was still being either ignored or tortured. Absolutely heartbreaking and enraging
A school a few of my friends went to had hazing for the fraternity brothers to "sleep with the ugliest girl on campus" and it destroyed my friend to find out that they all had picked her. These behaviors are atrocious.
Tim's parents came to speak at my university right before the pandemic hit. I get chills thinking about it. The love they have for their son and their mission to stop hazing is so admirable. They've touched so many lives.
REALLY IMPORTANT: In many states (California, North Carolina, and Texas I've researched specifically), underage people have legal immunity when they report alcohol poisoning. If you call, you cannot be charged with underage drug or alcohol consumption - there is never any reason to not call if you suspect someone is overdosing. This is also called "Medical Amnesty" or "911 Good Samaritan Law" and can apply to adults. In order to ensure this amnesty you must (a) report your name to 911 dispatch and (b) stay with the victim until help arrives. Protect the people around you, always.
Thank you for sharing this. Ohio for sure too! My friends had to call an ambulance for their roommate who had alcohol poisoning and they saved his life and didn't receive any penalty for underage drinking.
Thank you for sharing this and i hope this gets pinned. :) Also on another note, if you are capable to call emergency services or go to the ER bc you think you have overdosed, the doctors and nurses care more about your life than they do about getting you in trouble. I know this doesn't apply here to this situation bc well obviously he couldn't get himself to help. However, since you mentioned the Medical Amnesty I thought it might be nice to include this incase anyone does find themselves in a situations where they themself need help. (i hope this comment wasn't rude. I promise i'm not trying to correct you. I LOVE WHAT YOU COMMENTED! I only wanted to add to it bc i've been in a situation where i had to convince someone to let me take them to the ER bc they were afraid the doctors would call the cops. Which they didn't.)
At the same time though, I get people don’t want to get in trouble, but if someone is literally dying…. DYING, how do you not call 911. I think that’s worse than getting in some trouble. It’s all fun and games until someone is literally DEAD. At that point who cares if you’re in trouble, someone life is literally in your hands. Underage drinking is literally a slap on the wrist, license revoked until you’re 18, maybe some classes, court fees. None of that compares to having a death under your belt. You’ll live with that forever. That’s a life sentence. Maybe I’m just over empathetic, but I could never let someone die over my fear of getting in some legal trouble.
The example Julia said of being dosed with acid and then locked in a coffin overnight made me sick to my stomach to think about. That’s vile. I would need a grippy sock vacation after that
I have done plenty of acid in my time and I cannot imagine the pure unadulterated terror that experience would cause. It amounts to psychological torture.
I commented about a similar situation that was going on in the frats at UT Austin when a friend of mine was a part of it (2013 ish, not sure if it happened after) where they would double dose the new guys with LSD and blindfold them alone in this big forest all night. Afaik nobody has died, but they’ve had to call police in the morning to find people and they were traumatized and cut up from branches and rocks etc.
@@theIaurenshow Just out of curiosity, what fraternity was it? I have an absolute horror story involving one of them in 2012, and am curious if it’s the same one or not.
I’m from Belgium and we just received a verdict on the death of Sanda Dia, an 18yo student who died after a night of terror getting hazed by his “fraternity brothers”. All rich daddy’s boys who received 300h community service and a fine of 400€ for causing his death. Heartbreaking.. it happens in Europe too.
I made a similar comment! I hope they see it and decide to make a video on it because Sanda Dia deserved better than this merciless & torturous death and the world deserves to know about him 💔
I was looking for this comment. I am from the Netherlands where we do have sororities and fraternities. Personally, I am not against them and even part of a sorority myself. But our hazing is planning a 15 minute to 2 hour date with each of the sisters and embroidering our symbol on a scarf that they should wear on all days with our events. Also, some alcohol related thing but we always go with it if they don't want to join those things for any type of reason. This way it can be fun, but what happend to Sanda is dispicable and I find the verdict as sickening. I don't think these things should be banned but at least highly regulated.
My mom's friends daughter went to UNC Pembroke and literally lost her foot to hazing in her sorority. The new recruits had to walk/swim across a lake while naked and blindfolded and the girl stepped on a broken bottle on the lake floor. She was so determined to not get her sorority in trouble that she didn't seek medical attention until an infection had gotten really bad and she had to have her foot amputated at the ankle.
I’ll never forget watching the body of a 19 year-old be carried out of my apartment complex just 2 doors down from me while his friends were all lined up outside being questioned. Apparently he never woke up after his celebration party for getting into the fraternity. My heart breaks thinking about it even all these years later.
I grew up with Tim, graduated high school with him. He was a very kind, all around good guy. His loss is still felt. It’s surreal seeing his photo on my screen in this context.
i really think it’s a form of collective trauma they use to mold you into the type of guy they want you to be and through that trauma you do end up bonding with the other men in your pledge class. it’s not natural bonding through positive experiences with your brothers, it’s a trauma bond that keeps you silent and complacent.
Super super agree. They never actually deal with the trauma. They just “cope” with it by telling themselves one day I’ll get to make someone else suffer the way I suffered. It’s so sickening.
Kendall, I don’t know what happened to that girl that you helped at the frat. But I want you to know that she may not have been super conscious but I’m sure she is so thankful for you staying with her and helping her and still remembers it. Just one example of your great caring character. Just wanted to let you know ◡̈
this!! i got overly drunk at a party with no one i really knew. i had some man i’d never met who sat with me while i slept it off in a random room & helped me get home.. He kept me safe that day.. I still have no idea who he is but forever grateful for the way he sacrificed his party time to keep me safe.
Please cover more cases like these. This one was so difficult to listen to but at the same time so so important. It’s truly sick and evil what these people do to one another. I was tearing up hearing how he kept getting up and probably trying to get himself to safety and each one of his “brothers” not only failed him but assaulted him.
Thank you so much for covering this case! His mom came and spoke to all of greek life at my college and told his story and spoke about hazing and I have never cried so much in my life. His mom is such a lovely and wonderful person
Not sure if you have heard about this case yet, but this happened to a student named Daniel Santulli who went to Missouri-Columbia this year. He survived, but is now in a wheelchair, blind and unable to speak. There is video footage from that frat as well. Absolutely heartbreaking that this is still happening.
I was hazed on my HIGH SCHOOL dance team as a FRESHMAN. I had recently turned 15 at the time of the hazing. My coach had a “team sleepover” at her house (this was beginning of December in Montana; snow on the ground, extremely cold outside) We were all playing games in the basement when suddenly all the seniors go off into another room. Everyone else thought it was kinda weird but we had no idea what they were doing so we just ignored it. Then around 30 minutes later all of the seniors come running out of the room screaming and blindfolding all of the freshman. We were taken into the same room they came out of and were demanded to take off our clothes and put on these outfits that they had picked out for us. They were all old baton twirling uniforms from probably the 80s. They were extremely small and skimpy. Then as we were still blindfolded, we were all forced into my coach’s car and she drove us all around town. She stopped at probably at least 8 businesses (idk where exactly because we were blindfolded the entire time) with a speaker so that we could do our dance routines in these ridiculously skimpy leotards, blindfolded all while the seniors recorded us with their phones and while it was actively snowing outside. The more I think about it the more I feel rage and disgust agaisnt my coach and the seniors that abused and VIOLATED me and the other LITERAL CHILDREN on the dance team. I never had an interest to join Greek life in college because of my high school dance team experience.
This is so royally fucked off. I'm so so sorry you went through this! I was a dancer for 10 years, and a dance coach and I NEVER in a million years would have done this bullshit to ANY of my freshman dancers!. This is straight up evil and traumatic. I am so deeply sorry for you having to endure this torture and the fact that it ruined any chance of you continuing dance or even going into Greek life. That's just so awful 😢 my heart goes out to you
Ugh,Sorry this happened to you. It’s also strange that the dance coach basically allowed it, her home, her car. The seniors should have lost their positions on the dance team and the coach fired !
I’m so sorry you had to go through that, that’s so horrible! I am always shocked how humans can treat other humans like this with ZERO empathy. Especially full grown adults.
I’ve been watching your videos and listening to ALL of your podcasts from the beginning. Not one story has made me cry instantly until I heard Tim’s story. The amount of chances these “men” had to help and continued to do nothing is absolutely sickening. Their sentences are criminal, they should all be in for life. It would’ve taken any of them just one 911 call to make the outcome completely different. As always thank you for the respectful story telling and commentary. Thank you for sharing these horrific events to help shine the light on these archaic atrocities. Hopefully it helps stop anyone else from ever joining a fraternity.
My cousin actually passed away at 19years old as a result of hazing. His fraternity encouraged him to drink way more than he should have. They left him on the front porch falling in& out of consciousness until sadly he died there alone, it just breaks my heart. Luckily, the mom pressed charges against the college. She won a huge settlement. It won't bring back her son, but it definitely helps life be just a little bit easier. ✌️💙
So sad, I knew a guy in college who was pledging. He was underage but the frat made him drink a lot of alcohol and forced him to ride his bike all over campus. Well, he almost made it back but ended up on a road that was pretty dark and was clipped by a car and hit his head. Some of the boys were following him and saw what happened but fled the scene and so did the car that hit him. Authorities said he would’ve survived if he would’ve gotten help sooner but actually was left there all night and died from his injuries. The frat was only suspended for a year off our campus. 🙄
I can't understand how certain universities condone the outright criminal and sadistic activities of particular fraternities. There should have been catastrophic consequences for all of those responsible for the death of your friend. That's horrific. I'm sorry.
There already is laws …it’s called not causing bodily or mental harm to another ….if you cause harm to someone regardless of what you call it it’s already illegal lol…can’t just punch someone call it “hazing” and all the sudden it’s legal… what they do is already illegal …it’s just not REPORTED
As someone who was considering Penn state for college, one of the things that drew me away from this school was the hazing culture. Thank you for shedding light on this guys ❤
i get where you’re coming from but i just graduated from there and they try to do a lot of education about this now and crack down on frats :/ you do not have to get involved in the greek life there
I live about 25 mins away from PSU and my grandpa worked there for 20+ years before retiring and after hearing all the stories about what goes on I definitely did not want anything to do with going there after hs, it certainly depends on the area you want to study but all in all its not that great of a school
@@katelynbrown98Ngl Penn State as a whole is lowkey culty… It’s a college town that’s in the middle of nowhere (center PA is mainly rural farmlands, State College is a town centered around Penn State) and it got to the point where the students literally set the town on fire after one of the football coaches got fired (he supposedly knew that one of his assistant coaches was r*ping the boys on the football team and was let go for covering it up.)
I am balling my eyes out. I’m a mom to an almost 14 year old son. I can’t imagine losing him so young in such a violent way. This was so hard to listen to.
Same thing happened to a student at Mizzou except he lived and now has permanent brain damage. The fact that this is so normal in colleges across the country is sickening.
Aside from sororities and fraternities doing these abhorrent hazing rituals, some of the sports teams I was on in high school did similar things to indoctrinate the newly recruited team members. Even when people don’t end up dying, these hellacious hazing rituals should result in criminal charges being filed. There is no reason for groups to take things this far to be “initiated.” smdh.
A few years ago I came across a documentary on UA-cam that his family had made. I am so glad to see you guys covering Tim, his story deserves to be told and I truly believe it can say countless lives.
I was in a sorority and they heavily enforced anti hazing. I think it’s also a huge responsibility of the school and their IFC as well as the organizations themselves to uphold these laws and come down strong on those that break them.
I pledged a sorority when I was in my freshman year of college. I went to a university in New Jersey. It was a four week pledging process where basically it was all a mindfucking time. We had to wear these big signs on our chest saying we were pledging them every day, we had to wear certain colors. They blindfolded us one time and took us to a fraternity party where they let the guys at the party basically berate us, it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever been a part of. The last straw for me was they made us stay up all night working on a float that they needed for a parade that they were going to be in the following day so I didn’t get any sleep. I had to go home and I ended up falling asleep at the wheel and totaling my car. After that I decided not to pledge anymore and none of those people ever talk to me again. My so-called “friends “
A fraternity in Kansas made an 18 year old ONLY consume Mountain Dew & candy for a month. He got diabetes and almost died👍 (this was a couple years ago)

I attended psu for undergrad and now grad school. This occurred while I was in undergrad and it was incredibly shocking. So sad so insane these things occur and haven’t been shut down with so many stories.
Tim was an alum of my high school and I remember when this happened.I was in 6th grade and It shook our community. His family is so strong and is so dedicated for anti-hazing! rip Tim.
Every single guy who sat on his legs, threw shoes at him, backpacked him, smacked him, watched him fall, and did NOTHING should ALL be charged with MURDER!!! This is beyond disgusting, it's inhumane, I couldn't treat my worst enemy like that, and this is supposed to be their 'brother'???
Thanks for covering this topic. A friend of mine was “hazed.” He was tortured and raped. He ended up suffering from PTSD, anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, this led to him turning to drugs and alcohol to deal with the pain and he recently passed away in February. He was such a kind hearted person, who would still be here today if none of that happened to him. I miss him so much and seeing him spiraling down a dark hole was so heartbreaking 💔
this is actually one of the main reasons why i did not go to psu. i actually got an incredible academic scholarship there but growing up in pa i heard all my life about how dominant and out of control the greek life is. out of all my college acceptances i narrowed it down to a small liberal arts school and psu. i never wanted any parts of greek life so i asked how prevalent it is if you don't want to be a part of it, and i was told that it dominates social life. couple that with how psu covers up all allegations of assault, i knew i shouldn't go there. i actually would've been at the school when some of these incidents occurred had i attended. i'm so heartbroken for the families of these young men.
We don’t have this situation in the UK. It’s terrifying. In essence it’s immature young adults torturing their peers without repercussions. We are all so vulnerable at that young age and it’s occurring at a location of academia. So sad, so unnecessary 😢
There is some in France, it’s not this widespread, but still exists. Usually it’s way more tamed though… I remember refusing to participate and was put aside most of my school life. But I was already looked down at because anime wasn’t as popular then as it is now 😂🤷♀️
Hazing definitely happens, even without Greek life. Since most students are of legal drinking age though, I think people are more likely to seek help since there isn't the same risk of repercussions.
I knew of someone (an excellent athlete) who was thrown into a pool at frat and she came out screaming in pain. She was told to lay down and stop exaggerating. A couple hours later she woke screaming uncontrollably. She was taken to hospital. Today, she is paralyzed from waist down caused by hitting her head on bottom of pool when being thrown in that night 15 years ago.
This has been the most chilling/ haunting true crime I have ever listened to. Tim’s story gave me goosebumps and I bawled the entire time. Please never stop talking about this and advocating against this culture.
This one really got me.. I've heard a lot of messed up things in my life. But hearing such details.. How he touched his side clearly in pain.. How many times he tried to get up and save himself... I truly got such horrific visuals. Kendall you totally warned me too. 😓😭
Agreed, he was suffering for so long and every time he became conscious the pain and situation was just worse every time. The betrayal he must have felt for them to just stand over him or walk over him while his body is dying. It’s so haunting 😢
his letter made me sob. hearing what he went through was so hard to listen to but the letter sent me over the edge. this is such a heartbreaking case and i can’t imagine what was going through his mind while he was conscious
The case of Timothy Piazza haunts me. I went to high school with one of the guys that dressed him the morning after. His name is Lucas Rockwell. He managed to escape any charges.
I'm British, and we don't have anything like fraternities or sororoties over here,. I've never really understood why they're such a big thing in America, they always seemed like some sort of popularity status symbol, and after hearing these stories tonight I am absoutely stunned that they are still allowed to be a thing. Just absolutely devastating 😞
I’m from the UK and I disagree! Private Schools? Cameron and the pigs head? The Bullingdon Boys? Rugby Teams? I worked in a Paratrooper pub, you do not want to know what they do to new recruits! It’s there, it’s just not spoken about. 🤷♀️
@@Lemonie76 I was talking specifically about college sororities and fraternities, I don;t know anything about private school so I can't speak to that but I totally see your point.
The acid in the coffin story really shook me to my core. I have claustrophobia and acid is terrifying as it is, I honestly would rather die than have that happen to me and I truly truly hope that he is doing alright and healing now.
Listening to this story is so infuriating. Those "brothers" pretty much got a slap on the wrist. Oh how I would have liked to see them wear orange uniforms instead of their suits because they should've been charged with manslaughter. I feel so sorry for Tim's family and hope they will eventually find justice that they deserve.
I am so so sorry to the parents of these kids. How devastating. As a parent, I don’t know how you ever come to terms with a child’s death. But something so senseless and unnecessary…I feel like that is just on another level of hellish pain.
First day of my senior year of high school I walked in and the news was broke to us within the first 30 minutes that our classmate and friend to everyone named Dalton Debrick that was rushing out at Texas Tech had passed from alcohol poisoning because his “brothers” didn’t call the police and left him when he passed out the night before at a frat party. That set the pace for my class losing over 12 people (friends and family) that year. We all started worrying who was next. I tell everyone I love them and to text me when they’re home to this day. Daltons mom is still fighting for justice to this day and this happened back in 2014
The names and faces of those “men” who didn’t help Tim should be more well known. They didn’t get legal repercussions but they should be shunned from society for what they did.
I went to the same school as Tim Piazza's girlfriend and we are a tiny campus. I was also in greek life and lived in the sorority house across from his gf's and when the news broke my whole campus was absolutely in shock. She was never the same after that :( We went to school an hour away from PSU main campus so it was very close too.
I've heard of this case but the amount of TIME that passed that someone could have done something is astonishing to me. The absolute disregard of human life (hitting him with things, throwing him around, wrestling and landing on him) is truly disturbing. Thank you for covering this. I hope it reaches the ones who need to learn from it most
Also fun fact: in PA sorority houses aren’t allowed because they are legally considered “brothels”. So only boys are allowed to have houses. Talk about sexism.
I wonder if that’s true in other states. A lot of major universities have a frat row, but a Panhellenic building for all the sororities. That’s how it was when I was in college.
This is also the case in Louisiana. Sororities can have houses but are not allowed to live in them, they are strictly for meetings. Fraternities can have houses and live in them and throw parties.
The same rule applies at Miami University, but only because of an alumni who will withdraw their money if they break the rule. Most junior/senior girls just rent huge houses together and the sophomores live in sections of dorms together
Not a fraternity advertisement being the only comercial playing, wtf UA-cam. Too many heart breaking stories , imagine how many of these happen that we don't ever hear about. 😢
The summer that I was moving from middle school to high school, there was a school sanctioned football camp. At this camp, some of the older players SA'd incoming freshmen with broomsticks and other objects as a form of hazing. It was an enormous scandal for my small town and made national news. I have several friends who have never been the same since that summer and all they wanted to do was play a sport. ETA: This took place in New Mexico in 2008
@@jessiegowen9020 I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of something very similar happening shortly after unfortunately. It’s wild to me how people can harm others (especially children!) in the name of tradition or whatever. Some traditions should be broken
My aunt was in a sorority at University of Kentucky, and when they did interviews with each girl, they had to bring their parents’ tax returns and investment/real estate paper work…not sure if it’s still this way but that was around 2006
I was never in a sorority but I had friends share their experiences rushing on my campus. They made the women sit on washing machines and circle in sharpie any part of the body that jiggles. Greek life makes me gag.
Halfway through this episode. It's so infuriating. Had Penn State addressed hazing when Marquise was essentially murderered, Tim would be alive. They need to be sued until oblivion. Unfortunately, Penn has a network in the courts, etc.
Please do a series on this. While these stories are so heartbreaking I believe it's so important to get the word out on how vile these fraternities are. It blows my mind that this still happens. I hope more of these men start coming forward as it becomes more talked about.
At the beginning and the part about the squirrel and i am absolutely sobbing. Thats so sad. I feed my local squirrels. They come to my yard as a safe space to get snackies and a drink. I cant imagine hurting them. Thats so sad. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
As someone who was VERY fortunate to survive a ruptured spleen, I can tell you it was the MOST painful thing I have every gone through ( and I have had several surgeries to be able to say this.) I have been crying here, hearing how that poor kid suffered through his injuries, how his " brother's " treated him, and he still tried to get out. I just can't imagine.
I really enjoyed this episode. It was so sad to listen to but glad it is getting the attention it deserves. I would love to hear more stories on this topic
i’m from the south so greek life is super big here. i knew hazing could be bad, but i had no idea it could be this horrible. the way so many of the guys got off basically scot-free in tim’s case makes my blood boil. thank you so much for covering this.
An old coworker’s son was nearly killed at a Penn State frat party. He wasn’t part of the click and was darker complected (as he is Dominican) and was physically attacked. Ended up in the ICU with brain damage. The kid who put him there was never charged bc not one person would come out to law enforcement. This was something like 9 years ago. He’s doing amazing today, went back to college and graduated, has a great job and just got engaged recently. But the horrific attack he sustained changed him, and his mother, forever.
I’m so infuriated that those boys cheered and fist bumped after having those charges dismissed. It only encourages hazing culture and these behaviours knowing that no true accountability is handed out by the uni or the legal system. Community service when somebody DIED and you stepped over his body, slapped him, laughed, took pictures, ignored him etc. It sickens me. Rest In Peace Tim you deserved so much better, your future was so bright. My heart broke hearing how a tear rolled down his cheek when his family came to see him. I’m just glad that he was surrounded by them when he passed, knowing he was so loved.
Thank you for talking about this. It's so tragic that young people just starting their adult lives are killed or injured by the people who are supposed to be their friends. Hazing culture needs to end YESTERDAY!
My daughter is about to start her sophomore year of college. I'm SOOOO happy that her university banned fraternities and sororities back in the 70's (I think??) due to some incredibly horrific events involving death due to hazing and partying. However, I'm pretty certain she wouldn't join one or be interested anyway. Thankfully. 🙏
Not related to a frat, but i have a messed up story about my college experience. I lived with an RA my junior year in the gender-inclusive housing. Most of the residents were LGBT+. We threw a party in our dorm and residents attended (we were all 21 but underage ppl attended) and our RA sexually assaulted a freshman girl who lived in the building. Most ppl at the party testified about what happened to the school resource officer during the school's investigation. Our school ends up dropping the case fully against him after the girl transfers out and is diagnosed w/ PTSD. The school allowed him to keep his discounted housing that u get as an RA and he ended up graduating the following year. The victim's family tried to get the local police force involved as the school investigation was going no where. The local police were not allowed to investigate because i dont know exactly how it works but jurisdiction was the school's own police force...?!
i like the new intro with you guys showing clips before the video starts! i noticed it last episode, not sure if you started before then, but makes these feel a little extra professional❤
This is so sad. I work at a popular restaurant, and it’s close to cal poly. We get all this sororities that come in after they welcome there new ones into there sororities. They come in so drunk. It’s so sad to see them come in so intoxicated and not knowing that they look so bad.
The loss of Marquis, and the fact that the Attorney General wouldn’t chose to prosecute are you freaking kidding me?! I am so sorry for this tragic loss and the pain Marquis’ family has suffered. One day there will be justice.
The fact that they were literally throwing things at him and hitting him as he is actively dying is SICK

Good idea
@@MileHigherplease look into the case of Sanda Dia in Belgium who died at the hands of an Elite fraternity’s hazing. Next to no justice received for a torturous and merciless death
@@MileHigher I am in Greek life on a small campus and we heavenly value the importance of NOT hazing and hurting our members. I will be sharing this episode with other Greeks at my school. If you cover more cases you should do it during national hazing provention week. We also talked about Tim’s case during that week.
@@MileHigheralso: Stone Foltz at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, he passed away in 2021 and an off-campus frat in a hazing incident
That’s a great idea!
This kind of behavior isn't hazing, it's committing litteral torture. I'm so gut wrenched by this case. That poor child... my heart breaks for his parents- to know what he went through before his death. Damn..
I was just saying this in my head. This was TORTURE. Poor boy.
Hazing is torture and the whole culture around it is pointless and needs to be abolished
I agree. Calling it hazing is reducing the horror down to silly boys playing pranks.
i just graduated from penn state last month. i took the gen ed called anthropology of alcohol where tim’s parents came to speak and you could hear a needle drop in a room of 700 students. thanks for sharing this story
Served time, yes a LOT of time. Less than 20 years is a travesty.
A school a few of my friends went to had hazing for the fraternity brothers to "sleep with the ugliest girl on campus" and it destroyed my friend to find out that they all had picked her. These behaviors are atrocious.
Wow that is horrible. I hope your friend is ok
Now that f up.... i hope she's doing ok😢
I'm so sorry for you friend, this all is so heartbreaking.😢
Omfg that is awful. I hope she is okay.
Omg I hope she's doing way better than them and that she's ok.
Also on another note, if you are capable to call emergency services or go to the ER bc you think you have overdosed, the doctors and nurses care more about your life than they do about getting you in trouble.
Every state at any age doesn't get in trouble when somebody is needing EMS. It doesn't matter what drug it is.
@@serious323 thank you for adding that!! i wasnt 100% on that so its reassuring to know thats country-wide
@@xglosis exactly!!! That would be legitimate torture I’d never recover fully
I said the same!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@theIaurenshow Just out of curiosity, what fraternity was it? I have an absolute horror story involving one of them in 2012, and am curious if it’s the same one or not.
The minute someone died frats should have been abolished. It breaks my heart imaging sending my boys to college for this to happen
They are in Canada for those reasons
It will still happen though even if colleges get rid of them people are still grown adults and will do what they want.
I was about to comment about Sanda’s death. It’s so disheartening that they literally caused his death and can get away with it so easily
I'm from the Netherlands and what happend to Sanda is despicable and this verdict is a cover up from the start.
I made a similar comment! I hope they see it and decide to make a video on it because Sanda Dia deserved better than this merciless & torturous death and the world deserves to know about him 💔
I'm from Sweden and I have never heard of this, we don't have them, so I'm so shocked it happens anywhere in Europe!
Oh my god…. That’s horrific
Tim’s story is absolutely heartbreaking. Im in tears right now. Every single person in that fraternity needs to be put behind bars.
It’s surreal seeing his photo on my screen in this context.
tim was tortured. it’s plain and simple. so tragic it breaks my heart his last hours were so horrific.
i really think it’s a form of collective trauma they use to mold you into the type of guy they want you to be and through that trauma you do end up bonding with the other men in your pledge class. it’s not natural bonding through positive experiences with your brothers, it’s a trauma bond that keeps you silent and complacent.
it’s literal cult behavior
Super super agree. They never actually deal with the trauma. They just “cope” with it by telling themselves one day I’ll get to make someone else suffer the way I suffered. It’s so sickening.

That's just so awful 😢 my heart goes out to you
I’m so sorry they did this thing to you!
Ugh,Sorry this happened to you. It’s also strange that the dance coach basically allowed it, her home, her car. The seniors should have lost their positions on the dance team and the coach fired !
That's completely insane and the coach needs to be in prison.
I'm sorry.
So horrific! And they get a slap on the wrist for it.
There should be federal laws about any hazing of any kind and very heavy fines imposed on the offending institution
There already is laws …it’s called not causing bodily or mental harm to another ….if you cause harm to someone regardless of what you call it it’s already illegal lol…can’t just punch someone call it “hazing” and all the sudden it’s legal… what they do is already illegal …it’s just not REPORTED
It's illegal in many states, but no punishment happens because people don't want to be the ones to tell.
Fines for the institution, jail time for the offenders.
Did anyone else just want to go through the screen and give Julia a big old bear hug when she was talking about the baby squirrel 😢

My so-called “friends “

this is actually one of the main reasons why i did not go to psu. i actually got an incredible academic scholarship there but growing up in pa i heard all my life about how dominant and out of control the greek life is. out of all my college acceptances i narrowed it down to a small liberal arts school and psu. i never wanted any parts of greek life so i asked how prevalent it is if you don't want to be a part of it, and i was told that it dominates social life. couple that with how psu covers up all allegations of assault, i knew i shouldn't go there. i actually would've been at the school when some of these incidents occurred had i attended. i'm so heartbroken for the families of these young men.
We don’t have this situation in the UK. It’s terrifying. In essence it’s immature young adults torturing their peers without repercussions. We are all so vulnerable at that young age and it’s occurring at a location of academia. So sad, so unnecessary 😢
Same in Oz. Although is does happen to some "tradies" apprentices. There has been a couple of deaths, so the laws were strengthened to deter it.
Yeah I was going to say, not here in Australia either. I think the whole US College vs. Australian University experiences are completely different
There is some in France, it’s not this widespread, but still exists. Usually it’s way more tamed though…
I remember refusing to participate and was put aside most of my school life. But I was already looked down at because anime wasn’t as popular then as it is now 😂🤷♀️
Hazing definitely happens, even without Greek life. Since most students are of legal drinking age though, I think people are more likely to seek help since there isn't the same risk of repercussions.
This most definitely DOES happen in UK, and many other places.
I knew of someone (an excellent athlete) who was thrown into a pool at frat and she came out screaming in pain. She was told to lay down and stop exaggerating. I've watched a lot of your episodes, and I have to say Tim's story is one of the most devastating sickest things I've ever heard.
Daltons mom is still fighting for justice to this day and this happened back in 2014
How fortunate they are to have video footage! I won't forget Tim and the tragic way he was let down.
My heart breaks for all kids affected by hazing!!! These stories are so heartbreaking!
Fraternities can have houses and live in them and throw parties.
what's PA?
@@ratpacks9781 Pennsylvania
The same rule applies at Miami University, but only because of an alumni who will withdraw their money if they break the rule. Most junior/senior girls just rent huge houses together and the sophomores live in sections of dorms together

Jesus that's messed up!!
Tim’s story BROKE me. I cannot. Crying so hard. What a hard listen. Such a preventable incident. :’(
Halfway through this episode. It's so infuriating. Had Penn State addressed hazing when Marquise was essentially murderered, Tim would be alive. They need to be sued until oblivion. Unfortunately, Penn has a network in the courts, etc.
This episode literally made my blood boil!! So incredibly messed up
Please do a series on this.
Thank God you were okay. I didn't know it was that painful, that makes Tim's death even worse.... It also made me cry. So so cruel and barbaric.
This was so heartbreaking 💔 i cant stop thinking about tim fighting for his life while they continued to hurt him 😢 rest in paradise
Thankfully. 🙏
I could never imagine being a part of a sorority/fraternity.
So fucked up omg
This is one of the most heartbreaking stories I’ve ever heard. Poor Tim. Everyone in that house should be in prison.
This is heartbreaking in every way...hearing your voice talking about it Kendall you can hear the passion ❤️
It’s actually scary how cold those fraternity brothers were in the wake of Tim’s death. Bunch of sickos they are.
i like the new intro with you guys showing clips before the video starts! i noticed it last episode, not sure if you started before then, but makes these feel a little extra professional❤
Josh... You can't understand because you're a good man.
