Make sure to keep track of everything that can be a deduction on your taxes, as most gig jobs will have you fill out a 1099. You can claim deductions for mileage, per diem, business expenses, and more!

Thanks for bringing this up I can see it's received a lot of attention. The only thing with taxes is I don't want to give you incorrect information as I'm not a tax professional or CPA . I'm an expert in what I know and don't pretend to be a tax expert, hope you guys understand.
When it comes to taxes for the past 2 years I've done Turbo Tax self employed, they just ask you what 1099 income sources you have, you'll list gross revenue then corresponding mileage. They'll also ask if you want the standard mileage deduction or itemized deduction and you'll follow the respective prompts.

Another important thing to consider is where the drop-off will leave you...sometimes I get decent orders that take me to areas that are purely residential, with no restaurants around...so I have to drive back to an area where there's a probability of orders...so I am "riding empty" as truckers say. Important to consider this.

I pretty much decline all drive through orders now, especially if it is a red card order. I will only pick up from fast food places where I can walk up. The only exception will be Chick Fil A, which they bring out when you arrive. They are usually pretty good but I did have a couple instances where I ended up waiting 20 - 25 minutes.

Franchises are BEGGING for new owners, as long as your LOCATION fits their agenda. Chic fila only wants $10,000. I’ve spent over a million on my failures. So why not give these men the push that they need.

The problem is where I live we never ever get more than 2 dollar peak pay and it's usually only 1 dollar and doesn't happen very often. We simply cannot make that kind of money here. The tips always suck and we are forced to take 5 and 6 dollar orders because that is about 90 percent of the orders we get 5 percent are lower and don't get accepted and the other 5 percent are the occasional 7 and 8 dollar orders

@@YourDriverMike I do instacart too but it's just as slow and when they finally do have batches They are just way to little pay fro the size of the order. Other than that no! there's nothing else we can do here. We just have to deal with low pay and not many orders because being the only game in town it is also way over saturated with drivers. After doing my first 4hr shift tonight, I think DD algorithm route higher orders to specific people. Base pay was $3. $2 peak. My. Entire shift all of my orders were $10+ with very short distances. My son was in the same zone and kept getting $7-$8 orders. He started last week. I’ve only done 118 total. I get high orders back to back but he doesn’t.

I would love to see a video that walks me and talks me through a full door dash after the fact... so record it in the moment, leave that hard to focus background music out, and talk me slowly through the process of an order coming in - what do you look at, what helps you to decide whether to take the order or not, what are the things you consider? Once you take the order, talk us through the details of how the app works from there. My first order took me forever to figure out how to do everything in a timely manner and I ended up getting tagged as not having delivered it on time, when in fact, I had delivered it at least 5-10 minutes early. Also, where do you put your purse? Some of the areas I deliver to are not the most trustworthy and full of character, integrity, and respect. I worry about my purse when I jump out to run a delivery up to a house.
Things I found hard to figure out on my first day dash today:
    1. How do I look at the screen and know whether it is worth my time and drive?
    2. How do I know what the full amount of miles will be?
    3. Once finished, do I drive back toward a hotspot to pick up another delivery or stay where I'm at?
    4. Is there a way to tell where I'm being sent ahead of time? (I live in Indiana and it sent me across the border to a rough neighborhood in Illinois today. I grew up in a neighborhood like that and I know what goes on. I was not prepared and should never have been over there.)
    5. How do you go into the app and send the customer a text? Are you doing this through the app or through your own text message?
    6. I actually live in a rough and unsafe area... How do I drive to a safer area where I can work? Do I have to find the hotspot or can I just go to the area and then pick up orders from there?
    7. What app or process do you use for tracking mileage, vehicle maintenance, etc?
    8. I know I'm missing some things. For a type A - Highly sensitive personality and a total introvert (functional introvert but nonetheless...), I was a little overwhelmed with it all. I wish I could have had time to play in a "test" version to really learn my way around the app and figure out how to navigate it but because they don't offer that, I need a video that at least takes the time to show these things - and preferably, a previously recorded dash that has been gone back through and voiced over to explain everything...

Just a note is very different in Columbus GA, snsllish town not CALI, so when you mention good and bad amounts of money, it is all relative to one's area. I loved your idea of a spread sheet comparing peak pay to non peak pay. I also have been finding that Saturday is so saturated with drivers that I do much better during the week. Even though the orders tend to be for less, the resteraunts are much quicker, less backed up. And more orders because there are less drivers.

been doing DD for 2weeks, what happens with me or prolly most of us is that we get a delivery notification while driving, usually back from a drop-off, it will be from a merchant that is nearby me. I just click Accept because I'm not going to pull over, which sometimes it's impossible to do, and analyze in the 40-second time frame to Accept it or not. This happens all the time. I'm just able to glance at the dollar amount, all other info is in small type. I don't want to take my eyes off the road, so I just make sure it's not below $7. Any suggestions for the 40-second game show decision timer while navigating the roads?

Thanks for watching Gayle, something that can be tricky for anyone. Firstly yes I still look at the dollars:mile if I can, very minimum the pay but I can typically still read the miles. Second I quickly look if the DD GPS is showing I need to take an immediate exit because sometimes I don't have time to accept, click navigate and wait for Google Maps. Best case I'll exit on that immediate ramp then click accept, worse case I'll use the next exit and let it recalculate (unsafe road maneuvers are never worth it)

Don’t choose far areas. Set your own limits before you dash. What I do is set a limit for distance, and pay. Nothing under 5$ and nothing further than 13 miles. I will make 100-140 a day. The first days I would go far and take any order and would only make 60-70 a day

I was wondering if you could talk about the mileage with DD. Sometimes when I get an order it will say 2.7 miles so I excepted and then when I get the food and click on the directions the mileage will change to something like 5.2 miles. What is that? Why is there such a difference in the mileage after I take it? I have noticed that on a few orders.

To be honest, I don't like the shopping with the card or even the items to purchase with the card on the drive thru because it takes too much time. Although just watching and listening to your videos helps me out alot to try and make more money on a weekly pay. I try so much to not take the low paying orders because it takes too much of my time, when I should concentrate on the bigger payouts as you have mentioned. And I took the part the part when you said that a Hotspot does not really give you something to deliver. I've tested it and that is so true. With Doordash they will not give me a delivery right away until I have confirmed the deliveries. Uber on the other hand gives me deliveries continously even before I confirmed a delivery which Uber really keeps me busy throughout the day, nights, and mornings. Thanks again for your videos and tips.

Depending on the area. My goal is to never match or exceed the miles with the pay, but I'd say on average in my sprawling suburb I tend to drive around .65 miles for every dollar or so. I'm trying to avoid the edge of the city more often and stick to the middle, since orders on the city edge often get delivered to another city, IE, take me out of my zone and double the mileage on an order. So if I get in an accident while dashing, I am not dashing! I am just out grabbing some takeout. Don't open any cans of worms is all I am saying. Just quietly notify the customer and Customer care, but don't make a big deal about it at the scene of the accident. Cause technically, you car insurance company may want to sell you commercial insurance. Now if you are doing ride share, definitely get extra insurance which is why I don't do that. Well, lets be honest nobody wants to ride in a 2 door VW beetle and I wouldn't feel safe picking up strangers.

Hi Emanuel it is good practice to get supplemental insurance yes, most all policies have gig specific supplemental coverage. • @Daduke60

Could be different in different states. Here insurance is required for any driving gigs. DD is supposed to cover you while you are active on a dash. If you get into an accident where you are at fault, your own insurance may not cover you. It doesn't do much good to deny it as S.J. Bruner suggested. If you lie about what you are doing you open yourself up to penalties. If the police are involved and you lie to them by not mentioning DD you open yourself up to perjury charges. I am extra careful while on a dash, so as not to get into an accident in the first place. No I don't carry extra insurance. What is it that I am insuring? A bag of food?

Definitely agree with the higher peak pay = less gross per hour/per shift. Live over in hawaii and if I see the 4.50 pay bump I generally wont go because it feels like the app offers more money per delivery to validate having an excess of drivers in a location that is assumed to be super busy on that day? So you will be sitting a lot more often, I usually see quite a few people hanging out in hotspots waiting during those bonuses. Usually I try a mix of hanging out for 10 mins and then driving through & around the outskirts. But I usually have a killer day around the 2-3 bump range

whenever i have to go through the drive thru, i just cut the line by skipping the speaker all together. majority of the time, they don't say anything about the fact that i didn't pull through the speaker, they usually just give me a total thinking i was the next order in line & i just tell them that i have a door dash for so & so & then they just get it for me. occasionally, it's rare, but occasionally they will have an issue with me skipping the speaker & i just tell them that the last time that i came to this restaurant, they just told me to pull through to the window & then it ends up being fine & they let it go.

I just spent 30 minutes in a damn taco bell drive through that was drive through only, they were slower than Forest Gump. DD gave me a 2nd order across the street from it, that bailed me out. Both customers were happy, my on time or early and completion rates are still 100%. Communication with DD and customer is very important. I sure was pissed off for a good 28 of those 30+ minutes though.

The only time we ever even get peak pay is sometimes from midnight-2am, but everything is closed at that time 😂

I haven't really seen grocery orders on DoorDash, in my opinion I think Instacart and Shipt are dominating that market here

If the drive through isn’t isolated by a curb, I just cut in the drive through line straight to the window bc you’re not placing an order anyways so you don’t need to talk to the speaker box

I've thought about doing that but the thought of possibly upsetting everyone else in line especially if my order isn't ready is a concern

Elise D keep in mind that the restaurant rates drivers as well, so you just want to keep as much confusion down as possible. Don't want to upset anyone. It's not a bad idea, but it's a chance you are taking.
