    I did want to add that your journey on this channel has been FANTASTIC for my education on the golf swing. I thank you immensely for the effort you’ve poured into this process. You’ve given us exposure to data, tools, and instructors that we would have individually never been able to gain exposure to ourselves. You’ve given us an open book view to all your efforts to improve. Thank you for everything - especially opening yourself up to everyone’s critiquing and for being so honest and committed to this project.

      Scott,
      I heartily agree with everything you wrote. I share exactly the same appreciation.
      If one expects rigid spoon feeding, one has less of a chance of discovering their athleticism. Be Better exposes us to a lot of information, most of it from extremely experienced people. Some of it may not apply personally to you, but it provokes thought and reasoning.
      In my own journey, the info Milo laid out in this video solved a major balance problem that was causing me to get stuck/run out of room, inconsistent low point, etc in the downswing. Huge for me. I would likely not appreciate the vital importance of ground force without this channel. It is a superb resource, if one knows how to use it.

    Brendon,
    I suffered a golf debilitating medical event 4+ years ago. I have wrestled with balance ever since.
    Milo's focus on defective balance in this video, combined with some other videos about posture from other sources, generated a breakthrough in solving weight out over toes, running out of room P5, 6,7, 8 issue.
    I set up left, with inside of right leg acting as a brace. This cut way back on lateral head and torso movement. However, I still had the tendency to run out of arm room in the downswing. Once I understood what Milo was driving at in this video, I added in balancing over my ankle joints. This makes me feel like I'm falling backwards, but I'm actually stable. Maintaining this balance in the swing with the posture I described at address is transformative.
    My counterbalance is radically better. I do not run out of room and get stuck. I can finish my swing and hold my balance and posture. Much more consistent low spot, better accuracy and power.
    This video featuring Milo's sage observations on how failure in amateur balance happens was a key to fixing the issue and helping me recover and get back to better ball striking.
    It's been a long road back, Brendon. Milo's tutelage in this video was one of two adjustments that finally brought my golf athleticism around.
    If we keep doing what we've been doing, we're going to get, what we've been getting. Now, I know what to adjust to stop what was a perpetual problem. I can now properly counter balance, thanks to your channel. Milo's balance information is a game changer; I know that thanks to you.

    Great video. Thanks for asking questions and contextualizing the information that Milo teaches. I know a lot of these videos were shot in the same day, it would be unrealistic to see changes over such a short duration, so that’s why we are seeing a lot of the similarities between the videos.

    Brendan is like most of us. It's tough breaking habits. My mate is a good instructor and says you've got to do things very slowly to allow you're brain to perform the movement. No such thing as muscle memory. It's your brain that remembers. Thousands of times and give your brain a chance. As milo is saying.

    One critical thing you're missing is the width of your stance at setup. Narrow feet allows the left hip to move outside the left foot and toward the target.
    Rotational swings have to keep the centre of mass cantered, and one very good way to do that is keep the left hip inside the left leg.
    Look at Milo's feet at 5:56 vs yours just previous at 5:40 and how easy you bump your left hip outside your left foot.
    Wider feet, more flared left foot will help immensely with encouraging rotation of pelvis vs linear movement toward target.

    • @guitar1950

      Interesting observation! Milo is shorter yet Brendon has a narrow stance. You may be on to something. Loss of balance and lack of using ground force for rotation.

    Hang in there B. We're all rooting for ya! Ok, at 6:56 you said, "I feel like the problem has happened already." You are correct. You pull on the handle in transition. That is the first and biggest problem you have. The early tilt, the slide, the lack of rotation all stem from that first move in transition when you apply force to the handle with your hands. The 2nd problem; even when you get the transition correct(with your hands), the early tilt and slide are pretty much engrained into your swing. So you can't just change one thing at a time. You have to match it up all at once. That's why this is going to be so hard. You can do it B!

    • @rickcicalo410
      @rickcicalo410 3 роки тому +1

      I agree. Milo’s left hip does not go outside (target side) his left foot. Brendan does not rotate like Milo. He slides towards the target and loses his spine angle. Instead of sliding is hips, he might benefit from trying to start his swing by bringing his right knee towards his left ankle.

    • @RorufuSempai
      @RorufuSempai 3 роки тому +1

      Exactly this. He needs to feel like he squats down for an eternity to bring the club head down, then rotate through by turning to the left. Get rid of the tension in your wrists, shoulders and that shaft will shallow. Easier said than done though, with the arms so overactive I doubt Brandon will have the patience with the amount of chunks and thins to drill this through.

    This is very interesting and I fought thru something similar to you when I started watching Milo over a year ago. When you’re trying to hit the 70 yard block, you are continually still flipping your hands over every time. Even after Milo said something the one time. I think you really need to embrace the feeling of getting your hands way out in from of your body and also way out leading the club head. Almost like you’re intentionally holding onto lag. Try to get the handle so far in front of the club head that the shaft is almost flat to the ground before impact. Take a divot at contact and Try to never flip the head / wrists over even after contact. Once you master that exaggeration swing, you’ll get the feeling of what Milo is teaching. Good luck & love the videos.

    • @brycekanon547
      @brycekanon547 3 роки тому +1

      Spot on. From my experience to do what Milo wants, my feeling is like I slow down into the ball while keeping my wrist conditions correct to allow me to have lag tension/shaft lean. He’s flipping his hands over every time like you said, it may be because he’s really trying to force speed into the ball. He really needs to stick with Milo for instruction, cause Milo knows what he’s doing

  • @canefan17

    It's ok to hit bad shots while you're working on something B. Hang in there, the road to improvement is paved with frustration.
    My current instructor has me working on exactly what Milo was showing you (lead shoulder down and around). It opens up the chest, keeps you from tilting in DS, and by default gets you rotating. It took me 2 sessions to get the feel down though and only then did contact and later ball flight improve.
    If you are looking at each ball flight to see if the drill or instruction is working then you aren't making lasting change.
    I once spent an hour hitting shank after shank because I was learning a new feel. And if you saw my swing now from where it was... oooo eeee.

    At 8:56 it looks like Milo is demonstrating the Bradley Hughes 4:30 delivery concept .... the hands are out in front of the body while the club is behind in the 4:30 clock position (assuming 3:00 is the target line and 6:00 is straight from the ball down to between the legs). That’s a common position that all the great players were able to get into coming in to impact. Thanks Milo for your very demonstrable patience in working with Brandon. Milo never gets backlegged. His swing is around his spine. You get your weight (not just pressure) on that back leg, from there you don’t have enough time to get forward. You can either slide or rotate, but for you slide wins 9/10. I would practice having what you think is 50/50 foot pressure in your backswing. If you get nearly to the top of your backswing and you aren’t all the way forward (~4 inches in forward of where you start), you don’t have enough time to get where you need to go. If you are going to commit to a rotational swing, you can’t get backlegged or you will shank, pull and hit thins. Hope all is well,
    Alan

  • @grantbrooke8734
    @grantbrooke8734 3 роки тому

    Brandon - had a similar challenge. In your set up you can tell your weight is a bit left in the thighs/knees... you need to bow your legs a bit, like you’re going to throw a 5 pound hammer straight in front of you into a stake in the ground. On your back swing your knees get too close together to allow for any turn other than a forward lean. This allows for the hockey style turn Milo keeps showing you, you can’t turn like that with straight legs and close knees in transition and the downswing. Issue is in set-up.

    My opinion.... Instructors need to learn to teach the way an individual learns. One size doesn't fit all. I was struggling with my swing for 3 years, I just started my fourth year of golf. I took lessons from a few different instructors and never got anything out of it that I couldn't get from online videos. I stopped taking lessons and started taking videos of my swing and teaching myself, it took a year, but I finally figured out what I was doing wrong on my own and now I'm a confident striker. It's like he said, what he was doing wrong WAS earlier in the swing than what the instructor was focused on. I've become a student of the golf swing and have helped my sons and my frequent playing partners who have played for 20 plus years. They all tell me the first time I helped them was better than any instructor ever has, many of which have been taking lessons for years. I'm not ringing my own bell to pump myself up, none of you know me nor I you, so why would I? Point is, there are some good teachers out there, you just have to find them. It proves that just because you are a good golfer and instructor of the golf swing, doesn't make you a good teacher.

    Some of these instructors know what you should do but have no idea how to tell someone. Brenden is coming a little over the top and Milo is telling him to squat down, keep his left shoulder low, and rotate, without coming over the top, but that makes you come over the top without one really crucial movement which is lowering the hands. All great players lower they arms at the beginning of the downswing. If you leave them up high and rotate, your club will be across the line before getting to the ball. Watch when Milo does his demonstration at 6:00 how he lowers the club to his right thigh but never says that to Brenden. It makes it so confusing because if you just follow what he's saying without noticing that, you'll be way over the top. He says let your arms be passive and don't apply force to them, but he's actually applying a downward force and doesn't even realize it. He's just skilled enough to do it without knowing he's doing it.

You look , your hand path that is, for lack of a better term " loose" at the top of your swing. Maybe take a close look at that and figure out what's going on. Also when you where doing your speed training you had your best swing in my opinion taking a stick up and then directly down. Your practice swing with one of the devices looked "tight". I'm talking about your arm and hands. I realize your shaft may not follow the same path. I'm not a pro or an instructor, just someone who has been fing around with my swing for 56 years. • @jmoro1242
    @jmoro1242 3 роки тому +2

    "One" of the key moves to avoid a shank is the initial move of the left shoulder. The left shoulder must go down before it goes up and too the left. The left shoulder must not be pulled around to left by the lower body, in the initial move of the downswing, which will throw your hands over the plan. There must be some separation of the lower body and left shoulder on the initiation of the downswing. This will allow you to start the left shoulder "down" first before going up and around with the hips. The left shoulder going down, will pull the left arm, and hands down into the slot.
    This also allows easier forward shaft lean at contact. The left shoulder going up too soon will force a flip of the hands before impact to reach the ball.
    Take all this with a grain of salt. I'm just lower handicap hack.

    Brendon's first move away from the ball is a roll of lead wrist under, that is not optimum. He will never have a swing like Milo if the hands and wrists are doing something different. At waist high to the top, lead wrist is still angled somewhat down to the ground. Probably 30-40 degree difference to where Milo is at same spot in the swing. He could make that work but would have to forget about swinging like this, this stuff will make stuff worse like the shanking until the hands and wrists are figured out.

    Ive said this numerous times, drills like Milos are the best way to get good at golf but only good golfers have the patience,belief,skill set, to do them.Hackers just want to be Whackers! Unfortunately in this video you struggle with the urge to whack it with your arms.

      Yep. Can definitely see the hit impulse in B. I’ve never once seen him hit that 50 yard slow motion swing that Milo requests. It shows a lack of discipline. I used to struggle with it too. Hitting into a net helps.

      @@chubbychequer1512 Lowering your arms then turn is not a dynamic move, you must feel a tug across your left lat when starting the downswing, it does not mean to just leave your hands at the top then your lower body moves causing the tug it is just moving hands slower than the shoulders to feel that tug.

    Look at Milo's stance. Yours is completely different. He has his stance open and the left foot turned to the left....right foot is planted slightly out turned to the right. You are more toes on the target line and feet perpendicular to the target line. Make is easier to turn the body to lead the club. Try this......swing a club with your feet on the target line and perpendicular(straight) and swing.....then turn both feet out to 45 degrees and swing. Which way allows you to get the most turn the easiest? That is what I do....I am not a pro......just a dude trying to figure out the best swing for me. Just my observation....feel free to ignore it! :P

    • @scrubly_jr
      @scrubly_jr 2 роки тому

      great observation. i hadn't even noticed that about milo's feet. in addition to that it looks like milo's stance is slightly open (i.e. left foot dropped back just a little) in order to facilitate rotation and help him turn his hips hard. milo mentioned in another video he likes to play a fade as his stock shot - makes perfect sense given this setup. I absolutely love milo's swing and I'm currently working to incorporate this move into my own swing. If you look at Hogan and Trevino they had very similar moves: extremely fast and open hips and very shallow/left-exiting shaft at impact.

    Just a suggestion you have an elite coach in Milo, Let him write the syllabus and you follow it on how to get better. He knows how to build golf swings. This should be a pure teacher-student relationship. You interfere too much! I mean this with love, I've been following you from the beginning. Now that would be compelling to watch. Otherwise these videos are all over the place and hard to watch .

    The arms don't do much (the right arm folds a little, the left arm folds a little less, the right wrist hinges back, but besides that they just basically stay where they were at address). They only appear to move laterally and up because the torso moves them there, then the torso moves them forward, allowing the club face to collect the ball on their way. Turn the arms off, connect them to the torso turn the torso. Everybody knows that good ball strikers have the hands forward at impact, and so poor ball strikers spend all this wasted time trying to get their hands forward while moving their arms around excessively. The trick is to never move your arms to begin with, they just stay forward the entire swing. It's really very easy, turn your arms off, connect them to the torso, move your left shoulder down and under going back (magically without even moving your arms, the arms will move), add a little wrist hinge at the same time and this is a complete backswing. Now replace left shoulder, with your right shoulder down and under going forward (magically this will take your arms and club forward, without even moving your arms), don't stop at the ball, make sure the right shoulder completely replaces the left. The ball will just get in the way and be pured.

    Brandon: Go to your Bobby Lopez “off sides” video, and watch his Eddie Murray baseball swing-hitting to right field. Make that swing with soft arms and dead hands, and let the club head follow your right shoulder. The feeling is that your chest is wide open and the club stays back on your right side. That’s all these guys are doing. It’s not that complicated.

    Brandon seems very defensive and agitated in this video. Milo talks about not getting on your toes and not moving towards ball the ball, I think talking about how the back of you butt cheeks need to maintain their depth on the backswing and to impact or even better increase their depth while keeping head from backing away from ball will help keep the pelvis from moving towards the ball during the swing. I think I took 1 lesson from Milo at Willowick Golf course around 2009, but I was a lost cause because my back was so bad and had to quit golf months later

    I don’t like to write negative stuff because I truly believe you are trying your best but I can’t watch these anymore. Please take this as constructive criticism because I sincerely wish you the best.
    I don’t understand if the purpose of this channel is to showcase instructors while using yourself and your swing as the demonstrator or if you are on a mission to improve. If you are showcasing the instructors, I’d suggest you stop cutting them off and ask them to clarify thoughts, so the audience can learn from them. Literally just say, “can you please clarify that for me/us?” Don’t cut them off, repeat, and reinterpret every word they say. I would also urge you to be less chaotic and fidgety/anxious if possible....... it gives me anxiety just watching.
    If your goal is to improve, I’d suggest sticking with one instructor and do the long, slow, hard work it takes to improve and show the progress and setbacks along the way.
    Again, I wish you the best of luck and success. You have tremendous access to great teachers. I’d hate to see that access wasted.
