  • Smith & Wesson has long had many options for those interested in a dedicated concealed-carry gun, starting with the company's diminutive revolvers that date back to the 19th century. However, more recently, the company decided to offer a different take on the popular micro-compact nine concept that proliferates in today's handgun market. The Smith & Wesson CSX is a metal-frame, hammer-fired handgun that's still lightweight and compact, yet offers a familiar manual of arms for those used to traditional M1911-style guns. Watch our "American Rifleman Television" Rifleman Review segment above to learn more.
"Smith & Wesson, with the new CSX introduced in 2022, they tried to just take a little bit of a different tack and offer something for folks who wanted something other than that typical polymer-framed, striker-fired nine," said American Rifleman Executive Editor Evan Brune.
Measuring just 6.1" long, 4.6" high and 1.12" wide, the CSX fits the bill for an easily carried CCW gun, and with its 19.5-oz. weight, it's in the same ballpark, weight-wise, as some other micro-compacts, despite its aluminum-alloy frame. The frame adds a bit more rigidity to the platform, though, and gives it a feel that polymer just can't replicate. The gun also has a suite of controls that will be familiar to those fans of more traditional platforms.
"Some of the other really nice considerations are how friendly it is to left-handed users and ambidextrous users," Brune said. "One of the nice things that I like to see in a concealed-carry handgun is the ability to use it with either hand, and the Smith & Wesson CSX offers that capability. We've got bilateral thumb safeties, we've got bilateral slide-stop levers. Now, the magazine release is not bilateral, however, there is an option to put a mirrored magazine release on the gun, so if you are a left-hand-dominant shooter, you'll have the ability to access the magazine release in the place you prefer."
An interchangeable backstrap panel makes it easy for users to customize the fit of the pistol to their hand. Small and extra-small backstraps are included with each gun. There's also a textured frontstrap for added grip, as well as a flat-faced, single-action trigger with an integrated blade safety.
"All in all, the Smith & Wesson CSX is a really nice option to have in what is a very crowded marketplace of micro-compact nines, and for folks that practice the 1911-style manual of arms, this is a 1911-style gun that is great for concealed-carry use."

I bought this thing right when it came out and never had a problem with it. Absolutely love it and made a nice gun to carry at work. Crime has been getting out of control lately in Houston so I gave it to my girlfriend as a first gun. She's very short and had difficulties pulling the trigger on some of my other pistols, but this SAO works well for her. I'd recommend this thing for a people of all sizes and will be getting it back when I buy her an EZ or something like that.

I love mine. It’s just perfect. About 100 rounds through it. It’s my favorite EDC.

I have one.. never had a problem with the trigger especially after breaking it in and having sent it back to S&W after the first 15 rounds because of a defective component in the slide. It’s a very balanced and well firing pistol that conceals very easily.

I've been searchin' and researchin' for almost a year. I have a Ruger EC9s as my EDC (falling for all the hype about "a pocket pistol" for carrying), but it is too heavy and the trigger travel and reset is distracting. I love the 1911-style triggers for efficiency. There are SCADS of great compact 9's out there, but the S&W CSX WILL BE my next carry. Gonna go down to Ozark Armory this week and pick one up!

Hoping S&W offers a V2 that has an updated trigger/reset and those sweet M&P scale slide serrations.

I have had mine for a little over a year now, and it's my EDC. It handles well from a in the waistband holster and fits just fine in my pocket as well. A step ahead of a .380 for sure and not that much larger or heavier either. Being hammer fired it fits my needs, but S&W really missed the mark by not making this SA DA IMHO. That would of been a grand slam for me. That being said, I'll keep caring it until S&W upgrades it to SA DA. By the way, it is a straight shooter and the action and trigger improve with use for sure..

I am a S&W fan and was excited to try this gun out. For a hammer fired gun the trigger is terrible. If they do something about that in future upgrades I would buy one, but not like it is now.

A good idea that needs to be developed more. Aftermarket trigger options from Apex would be nice.

A little deburring and polishing on the pivot point of the trigger helps alot. Hopefully the aftermarket comes out with some parts to drop the trigger weight.
The false reset can be overckme with training and mine got less and less noticeable with break in.
At the end of the day it is far from perfect but it fills my requirements better than the competition.

The trigger reset thing is overblown by tacticool idiots on tube, you can’t find something like this in the shape form weight and capacity with hammer fired and being reliable and accurate, if you want 13 capacity aluminum frame hammer fired reliable and accurate that fits anywhere in its shape and smooth form that has great ergos look no further, but if you just one of those tacticool peeps move on

If this had been a traditional DA/SA gun I would have already bought one.
This pistol is a NO-GO in multiple ways and y’all are late to the party as usual.

You hinted at the question that rolls around in my noggin! Is this DA/SA, or is it SAO? The statement that it is similar to the 1911 setup brought that question to mind for me.

@@KD-lb9bg Thank you. I was wondering if that safety was a decocker or not. I think I'm going to have to pass on the cocked&locked pistol in my pocket. I could see IWB, but pocket? Yikes.

POS from start to finish. I see you didnt mention the fact of the hinged trigger, instead of slide trigger like a 1911 and i also see you failed to mention that that “single action” trigger ranges from 8-11 lbs!!! It looks like a 1911 design but its not even comparable.

It's not a mini 1911 and the trigger is fine on mine. This is a defensive carry gun and if it did have a 10 lb trigger, you would never notice in the heat of using it for such.

Heavier, bigger, doesn't conceal as well as the CSX, lower bore axis keeping recoil way down for a gun as small as it is. But yeah every meaningful respect....

This gun is terrible. Why would you want a bad trigger hammer fired gun? Wouldn't that be the point of a hammer fired gun? Also with a false reset?? come on S&W! there is a market for hammer fired guns but not ones with bad triggers and false resets...

    • @darrelwhite9164
      @darrelwhite9164 8 місяців тому +8

It's none of those things. Have you shot one? The trigger is better than any striker triggers I have owned or shot. And if you can't get over the reset that happens in a quarter inch...that's on you.
