he was pretty patient with jenny, serena on the other hand was already known for being brought up in a toxic environment so he was more patient with her
the "i killed someone" scene was hands down the best scene of all 6 seasons the music the anticipation and the shock altogether was sooooo chilling

After watching the show several times I've come to the conclusion that Serena was never a bad person she just did bad things and had no self control or disicpline but as a person she was always nice, she never looked down on people who had less than her and she never held any grudges, Georgina literally DRUGGED her and she didn't get "payback"
Serena is my favorite character is she perfect no but she tries her parents were not a very good support system for her
Also Juliet drugged her and she almost died but she didn’t get revenge but blair wanted her too
huh ?? Did we watched the same show ? Serena is pretentious, selfish, self-centered, and her ego is out of this world. Not to mention that she is so unconfident about herself that she's scared of being alone more than two minutes, so she always do whatever she can to get male's attention and literally craves for male's validation being the BIGGEST pick me I've ever seen, going to the point she betrays her own friends for a boy, and getting mad every time one of them leave her little harem. She for sure has trauma due to her dad's absence and yes she isn't perfect and she doesn't have to be perfect but at least she can try to become a better version of herself, but she doesn't even try. She lives in Serena's world were everyone is at her feet, that's also the reason why she never truly evolve, because nobody put her back in her place EVER. Yes she claims that she wants to be a better version but she only tries the first season and then immediately go back to her old immature and immoral version, just because, let's be honest, she's not that interesting, in contrary to Blair for example.
I'm currently watching the show and in season 3 she's pretty nice (but it never last) and even care for Jenny when she is with Damien, and I just realized watching it that every time she's nice the show kind of leaves her behind and then they suddenly remember that she is the main character so they make her doing an horrible thing again so that we can talk about her again. The only thing saving her from being selfish, mean, untalented and insecure is that she's born pretty and rich, and that is even more sad knowing that she doesn't even deserve anything she has.
If Serena is your favorite character and if you love her I'm sorry but you must be a terrible person. Even the actresses herself hates this character.
@@gwenbar8144 all of these things you use to describe her, which is a HUGE mischaracterization could also be used to describe blair's less likable traits. it doesn't make sense why you are uplifting blair to put her down...and i love blair. not liking serena is fine (even though all the characters of the show are flawed...that's like the point) but to be so delusional is boring and annoying!
@@oh-cx7dr honestly no. Serena's character doesn't just have some flaws that makes her more likable or more human just like all the other characters in the show. She's just a terrible person.
Also I don't remember what I said but I'm not using Blair to put down Serena, cause I don't need anybody to put her down, she's doing it by herslef. But yeah at least Blair is realistic to what she is and they don't try to make us believe that she's a good person and that she's always the victim. No we see her for what she is, in contrary to Serena. Moreover she has a real development, again, in contrary to Serena.
I 100% think that Serena being jealous of Blair make sense. It's like the Gossip Girl thing, she likes the attention, but she never had to fight for it, so she doesn't realise that she's a bit of an attention seeker.
It's what happened to Lola when she tried to make her th enew it girl too.

her applying to yale was the biggest giveaway that she was secretly very jealous of blair. that was blair's dream school since she was a child. serena went to one visit, realized that she "liked the campus and the people are nice", and then got in due to publicity. how absolutely cruel to do to someone who used to be your best friend and that level of cruelness is usually rooted in jealousy. you just want to take everything from them, even their childhood dreams.
not to mention when she slept with nate AND dan. ol girl was obsessed with blair's coochie leftovers.

This was so obvious in the show and even blair admits it on several occasions. Serena applied to yale because blair was being a bitch to her, like she always is. Maybe rewatch the show?

Dan had an incredibly shallow and idealized version of Serena. Also this video made me realize I'm Blair in the best sense.
I feel like they just made it so obvious from the beginning that Serena and Dan were endgame so they had to just bounce her around until the last season, and pretty quickly Chuck and Blair were the most interesting couple and Serena took a back burner, but was always there to fight with Blair which damaged her character.
When the writers gave them a sibling I really thought that would be the end of Dan and Serena, but sadly noOoOoo
It was Serena’s character to bounce from guy to guy but Dan was HER guy tho so it makes sense she would land there eventually

I think what you don’t realize is what happened in season six to Blair and Serena is very realistic and happens in real life where the roles can reverse and when one friend is in their “arc” the other friend becomes the hater. I think it seemed very realistic that Serena was acting that way and it seemed like she was capable of it all along
They were portrayed as frenemies from the start
on the season one versus season five-six Serena storyline, she's the one person that I actually felt like the regression makes sense. She's never had a good, solid sense of self like other characters, she's overly co-dependent (exemplified by her constant relationships, her need for her toxic friendships). when she sees the two people she loves most in this world, at the exact moment she's ready to be with one of those people, not only in a relationship but thriving together (... for the most part) it makes complete sense it would send her into a spiral and have her regress to comfortable ways: running away and pretending she's someone else. I actually do think it goes with her flighty but deeply loving character, one whose hurt.
as for the regression of other characters in season six ... it makes no sense. it makes zero sense why Blair was in a relationship with Dan but now cannot believe he's good enough for Serena. it makes decent sense Dan feels like a fraud once reaching his dreams, but it doesn't feel well-done (if that makes sense).
what you said about Serena having no sense of self is so true. I watched an episode where she's in a center (ostroff) and she starts a therapy and it's very interesting to see how she feels like she's not good enough and how she doesn't believe in herself at all. I mean if we really analyze her we know it, she has trust issues, is insecure and needs to feel that she's validated by men to feel worthy, but it would be so nice and interesting if she continued this therapy in the series, we would see the sessions and it could have lead to a great evolution of her character. Instead, she doesn't pursue the therapy she sorely needed and goes back to her life like nothing happened. I think it's really a pity cause this character never evolves and just regresses all the time without no real reason, and the lack of transparency from Serena (cause whatever she does she's depicted as the nice, confident, and perfect blond girl who only gets involved in drama cause everyone's obsessed with her, which isn't true at all) makes her appear as a spoiled kid who never learns from her mistakes and it really prevents us from understanding her or from having any sympathy for her and her traumas.
serena is part of a teen trope, rich girl with daddies/mommy issue, who is or was wild and now has a desire or is driven by her surroundings to go trough a redemption, also most of the time there drug and she's promiscuous :

This trope as intresting as it is, had always been baddly done. (Or forgotten aka peyton). Serena was pretty well treated during season one, but instead of doubling down on her theme, they focus on everything else, the superfical element and make her date around without tackling down the root of her need of men. Sometimes brigging it up when drama is needed and forgotten as fast at it was brought up. (funny how both marrisa and serena were inspired by paris hilton)

I agree! Marissa and the tone of the oc were different, both created by josh Schwartz but the drama on the oc was serious sometimes bordering soap opera. Everything Marissa did (even the stuff she didn’t do but is still blamed for) makes perfect sense considering she was a teenage girl surrounded by neglect and violent, obsessive men. Serena’s life was a bit better but she experienced trauma and home life issues that were never worked out and she was expected to get over and character development seemed to be an afterthought for the gg writers. Not too mention josh is terrible at creating and writing for female characters.

I'm really excited for a desperate housewives deep dive, this series was so good from the drama, the characters, the humor, the rollercoaster and it tends to get pushed aside in modern conversations and I felt like it became some kind of lost media with the time.
They don't do soap opera like desperates housewives anymore and it make me sad

i just laugh because even Penn didn’t want Dan to be GG because he said so itself it made no freaking sense 😂. it gives me peace knowing that because i could not for the life in me justify Serena and Dan being endgame unless it was a last minute writing choice, and it was! 😂
Serena should’ve ended up single. Why? Serena bounced from relationship to relationship the entire series, that was the way of showing the viewer how unstable she is. Her being single, happy and thriving would’ve been much more powerful in the end. But how could she end up single, happy and thriving when her character didn’t fully develop in the last season? I hate the character tbh, she’s the true villain. The way Blair and Serena are different is that Blair would scheme to do good, either for herself, her friends or family, sure she would hurt people along the way, BUT at least she grew out of it. On the other hand, Serena was so malicious and all her scheming was to purposely hurt and destroy someone, and that was awful to me. She would victimise herself after doing something horrible and then everyone would forgive her, idk how people just moved past that lmao
yeah it rubbed me the wrong way that she essentially resorted to trying to manipulate dan into being with her towards the end and she actually got her way😭 she should’ve ended up single and working on herself instead

I love your videos and I can’t wait for the last video in the gossip girl summary series!! So glad I found your channel. I’m rewatching gossip girl with my boyfriend and he said he’s not sure who gossip girl is but it would ruin the show if it was (the character who is gossip girl), so we’ll see how he feels about the ending 😅. Just a factual correction about the Serena/Tripp breakup episode as lifelong native Long Islander... We don't have indigenous coyote or wolf populations here, which is why we also have a disproportionately high population of white tailed deer. They have no natural predators here. To such an extent that they are a road hazard for themselves and for motorists. We know, for the most part, where and when they gather (dawn and dusk, and they cluster towards the shorelines) but caution should always be exercised because it's just a skinny strip of land we live on.
Anyway it is FAR more likely that they swerved to avoid a cluster of deer. Wolves or coyotes literally do not live here.
I think Dan got wolves there and knew Serena would get in a car accident. Nate was by her side at the hospital but Dan didn’t seem to care

@@Missmagazinebura What? There was no plotline where Dan caused Serena's car accident. It had nothing to do with Dan and was just an accident. The problem was that Tripp was driving and he moved Serena, who was unconscious, into the driver's seat so that it looked like she was driving and then fled the scene of the accident. And it was Maureen, his wife, who picked him up and supported his story publicly.
Dan didn't do anything involving wolves. In this episode, Dan and Vanessa go to a tiki party in Vanessa's dorm and pretend to be dating other people and then kiss for the first time.

Every time I rewatch gg I get sad about what they did to Serena. I don’t mind her being more jealous and maybe not always carefree and nice because it was interesting seeing that side of her and I actually liked that they teased this dark side in season 1 with Georgia, her past and when she has queen b fever but if I were Blair I would never forgive her for what she did with Dan. Season 6 was so rushed and disappointing. I think season 5 was super interesting but I would have wanted to give everything more time like: Dan and Blair and then her going back to Chuck but build it more up, Serena or others being gossip girl and her having her blog s by s , her feud with Blair and her and Dan getting back together.. idk also agree she had way less time with Nate then we all needed… I think it’s kinda like with Marissa cooper they just did not know how to handle her at some point any more but more subtle maybe …

Both were bullies with horrible personalities but atleast Blair didn’t victimize herself. She knew she was bad and didn’t blame others for her dark side. She also worked hard for everything in her life.
But Serena on the other hand always had a victim complex, never worked for anything, smiled and pouted her way through any issues and when that didn’t work she always ran away. Everyone then dropped everything in their life to be there for serena n she didn’t even apologize properly. She would repeat that cycle again because whatever fcked up things she did the consequences were just mild tap on her wrist while Blair had to face devastating consequences for her actions.
I think bullies is a strong word, never saw Serena bully anyone in highschool unlike how Blair treated Jenny, Vanessa and her minions. S did some mean shit but a lot of it started out with good intentions, was misunderstood or was even deserved. Same can be said for some of Blair’s actions too. But at the end of the day it comes down to bad character creating and bad writing that did little to flush out or understand these characters.
serena wasn’t a bully and she didn’t have a horrible personality, that’s blair. You guys always try to drag serena in blairs mess because you know you have no right to defend blair and that’s the only way you can, try again.

She has no ambitions or goals, she didn’t accomplish anything, the only thing she ended up “accomplishing” is marrying Dan which is honestly so sad, such wasted potential
I have a true love hate relationship with Serena. Honestly? She had, based on the show, an irresistible charm and an appeal to humans. She attracted attention effortlessly. She simply lived her life, and being the daughter of a billionaire in the upper east side, her casual day involved more entertainment and drama than a normal humans entire existence.
But besides her appeal, especially after 1st season, she has started to return into her original, attention seeking, empty personality.
Even though, I admit, her life was entertaining to watch. She was born into luck, and was given the opportunity to grow into social person through what she has seen from her mother, the real icon, Lily Rhodes.
I’ve had my ups and downs with Blair, especially when she was in high school, yet she stands out as a person who actually has dreams. Serena, who lives spontaneously, never properly talked about her future plans and quit from most.
Blair and Serena were both privileged. Yet, Serena simply had it easy. She was LUCKY.
At the end, she married her obsessive stalker, had no proper job except for relying on her family’s heritage, or being a “socialite” or whatever that crap is.
And in my opinion, she never deserved nate. He was a true moron for dedicating his feelings to an emotionally unstable person like her.
I loved her despite the betrayal in the first season, yet as she grew, my love faded for her.

Josh Schwartz was terrible at creating female characters. Despite being based off books his characters in gossip girl were created with little thought. Also want to add that Serena experiences so much trauma and home life issues that a lot of behavior makes sense and the people around her reactions tend to lack empathy or understanding.
Also season 1 is superior! And yes Blair and Serena are supposed to be frenemies! I have no idea why the show turned them into on again/ off again best friends

okay, the recap of the seasons in such detail was unnecessary. i wanted more analysis of her character rather than storytelling
tbh serena isnt a bad character and probably didn’t mean harm most of the times but she has some sort of ability to slip through the cracks of her mistakes so she doesn’t have to apologize because others would just forgive her immediately like how she betrayed blair and blair forgave her and how she got into yale even with her bad records so she’s never learnt to take responsibility and makes lots of ‘mistakes’ cuz people will forgive her anyway.

Serena is a disappointment in the series if you think about how, in the books, Serena becomes an actress. This would actually line up with the idea of her having a career related to doing promotions for movies or working with producers, that she would have a taste for acting or even more stuff related to that

That's cause she kind of was. Not super bad, just really entitled and always believed that she was in the right without ever wanting to hear someone else's pov of the situation. Selfish and spoiled was Serena. Blake even said herself how much she hated playing Serena.
