What really bugs me about this is that, in the (admittedly limited) advertising I've seen for this pan, the implication is that you'll never cook a meal with multiple pans. Even if this does do the work of, say, your skillet and your dutch oven, it can't possibly do both at once. If you wanted eggs and grits, or a curry and rice or flatbread, or pasta and sauce, you'll need two pans anyway.
There is NO WAY I want to make half my meal in this thing, then clean it out and cook the other half while the first half gets cold. So, even if this pan is the best pan ever granted to us mortals on this earth - you need to buy two. Which puts you around $300 just so you can cook something other than a one-pan meal. My Lodge skillets don't gaslight me, and I like that.
"My Lodge skillets don't gaslight me"
Gaslighting. That's an excellent description of the "big ad spend" technique!
@@daveh7720 cooking with gas is underrated.
Idk why but I bought a gas Outdoor stove because natural gas is unavailable in my city. .
The outdoor stove does better meals. I'm not arguing. Just stating my reality...
@@chanceDdog2009 so I assume it you have never heard the term "gaslighting" before? Look it up, you've completely missed the point of discussion here
@@chanceDdog2009 I agree with you! I much prefer cooking with gas myself.
But the term "gaslighting" (from the title of the film _Gaslight_) means to play mind games with someone until they begin to believe they're insane. Which is sort of what high pressure marketing does to get people to buy substandard products and believe they're superior.
@@daveh7720 I went on a tangent. And off topic.
And do know what gaslighting is.
My parents were narsiccist and emotionally neglectful. I Love them as only a codependent son can . They still gaslight me often but am handling it better because of therapy.
I do appreciate, the clarification tho. It very kind , many people would have responded with sarcasm or by ridiculing me.
Invest in a good cast iron skillet and a quality Dutch oven, that will cover SO many cooking bases. They'll last decades, or longer
100% agree although I will say cast iron can scare a lot of brand new beginners who get scared of the seasoning process and/or don't know how to care for/clean it.
Still a very good option although I would buy carbon steel cookware if I was starting over now. Pretty much all of the upsides but it also heats faster and sticks less.
Cast iron I only use for meat. For almost everything else on the oven top, a Teflon pan will work fine. Dutch oven I use for stews and soups mostly.
Yeah. I got a nice Lodge Dutch Oven, A 10" teflon skillet, sauce pans, and a large stainless saute pan, and it pretty much covers every base. I should be able to hold onto the stainless pan and dutch oven for nearly a lifetime. Telfon skillet, a $30-40 one is enough and I expect to replace every 2-4 years, and sauce pans are also stainless so they last decades.
Literally have a Dutch oven from my grandma, at least 70 years old if not more. Good pans will last longer then a lifetime.
My dad is already talking about which of his adult children will one day inherit the Dutch Oven that his mom gave to him and her mom gave to her.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't the Always Pan just a high-walled, enameled cast iron pan that is not oven safe, can't cook over high heat, isn't enameled, isn't cast iron, costs 5 times as much as a beginner's pan, and also sucks?
You are correct.
Their “steamer” is placed so low that the content touches water you might as well just boil it
Exactly! That's just one of the many reasons why it's necessary to have pans of different sizes. How can I steam anything in a skillet? It's not tall enough
Literally like a 1/4 inch, the water would boil off in minutes. Stock pots are specifically designed for this.

There is such a thing as an everything pan. It's called a wok. Mine cost £25 from the Asian supermarket that supplies most the Asian kitchens in my City. I bought it 15 years ago and not only is it still good it is actually better now than when i bought it. I love my wok.

@@ingridjansson4284 Ikea used to sell a non stick wok that when cooked to stir fry appropriate temperatures, the non stick coating peeled off immediately. Now I'm so skeptical of any so called non stick coating, though I think technology has improved drastically from the Teflon crap of the 90s.
mine is a five euro one! got it from a local mr. price (ireland). wooden handle, not the cantonese version. virtually indestructible and has lasted for 5 years so far.

I got a set of three different T-Fal skillets a couple years ago and they're the most consistently used pieces of equipment in my kitchen aside from a cheap aluminum stockpot I got at a restaurant supply store. Individually their skillets are in the $15-30 range depending on size, and while they're not the *most* non-stick non-stick pans I've used, it's better than naked steel - I don't think it's Teflon, some other substance that seems to be more durable since the non-stick coating looks brand new after two or three years of heavy use. Serious Eats recommended the brand as a budget choice and I have to agree they've been very good for the price. Getting an entire boxed set of pans from a place like Costco might be a better deal than buying individual, though I haven't checked reviews to see how Kirkland stacks up to other brands.
I'm a fan of Victorinox's Fibrox knives for budget knives but I've heard really good things about Mercer's Millennia series of knives and they're like half the cost of the Fibrox brand line so... maybe look into those first?
Glad you saw this early, I’d recommend a cast iron 12” pan if you’re looking for a good alternative to the “always pan.” If a family member has one they are willing to give you, even better. Cast iron’s get better with every use :)
Misin has good value chef knives and pans. Not as cheap as a cast iron but way cheaper than other brands with similar quality products
@@sIimepoop all I need is a cast iron skillet and a stainless pot to boil stuff in. :)
The best alternative to this would be a second hand Marmitout. It’s two small cast iron pans (frying pan and pot) and the frying pan fits over the pot as a lid. I got one for going to uni and I found it brilliant. They’re expensive new but if you set out a search on ebay you’ll soon find a set or the two bits separately as a bargain. Brilliant things and very lovely looking. If you’re anxious to get one maybe £50 for the two, but if you wait you’ll find the set for cheaper, especially if you don’t mind having two different colours

Sadly I asked for and got this last Christmas... One session of cooking yogurt marinated chicken and the coating crumbled. Now I only use it to steam dumplings because I also got the steamer basket attachment. I regret that I made my mom buy me a $145 dumpling steamer 😓
Also my biggest gripe is that it isn't oven safe?? How in god's name does it replace a skillet then
I did the same thing! Except I bought it for myself because I'm an idiot. My wife made me gift it to her little sister, and I'm certainly better off without that overpriced thing...
And the Dumpling Basket is another $30!! 😩

I LOVED my Always pan until I saw How damaged the bottom of the pan got after only using it 4 -5 times. Also the nonstick is going away and I’ve had it for less than a year😭

Jfc my cheap ceramic coated pan I bought a couple of years back has held up way better than that. So glad these videos came out when I started to consider buying the always pan
OMG, yesssssss. I goofed and ordered this pan last year when it was on sale and two months later when it arrived in the mail the nonstick coating was loaded with scratches fresh out of the box. Figured that maybe it was because the box wasn't sealed (which is also concerning) but I realize now it was that cursed metal steamer basket. I returned the pan for an exchange and when the second pan arrived, same sad story. I'm sticking to my seasoned cast iron. Why did I ever try to stray?

Plus the coating of ANY non-stick pan can come off in tiny pieces after a couple of years using it. This is highly toxic and after continued it is likely to make you sick or at the least cause vague health problems. Please throw any scratched/old non stick pans out and only buy new pans without the coating such as ceramic, stainless steel or cast iron! Please.
Thank you for saying this, it's also terrible for the environment.
The teflon coating is not toxic, its unreactive and would just pass straight through you, its the manufacturing of teflon thats damaging to the environment.

YES! you have a way of wording things so succinctly. I love it. Also I quote your old vines daily, don't worry, they hold up.
Hah I had enough when I bought ceramic knives and everything's getting stuck on them (can't even use it on butter or I have to scrape it off the knife) - no way I'm gonna buy ceramic pan - it's either teflon, steel or cast iron for me.
i bought my cast iron for 10$ at a Burlingtons. anyone who spends more than $15 on a cast iron pan is a sucker, considering making a cast iron pan is cheaper than making a decent non stick pan, they charge more because the pan being heavy gives you a "premium" feel

Its not, it would pass through you if you ate it, the manufacturing of teflon is harmful not the finished product.
This pan didn’t work for me at all - only 3 months after using it, the bottom completely burned and now everything I cook in it sticks. I admittedly used it on high heat sometimes (usually medium), because I didn’t see the disclaimer where they advised to cook on low to medium. They should be more upfront about this! I scoured the manual when I received my pan and I definitely did not see this disclaimer! It was either very obscure or honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it weren’t there at all

The best advice (when it comes to pans at least) i can give to a new cook is to buy steel or cast iron. Don't buy into fancy coatings, they are more hazzle than they are worth. It can be bought cheap from second hand stores, and it will last several lifetimes. Furthermore, you can use metal utensils, which means that you won't have to buy plastic, which looks like shit after a year of use.
Definitely. I swear by stainless steel pots and pans.

I got this as a gift. I never would’ve spent the money on it myself. But it has honestly become one of my favorite pans. It can cook on high heat better than this video suggests. It’s extremely durable and the non stick surface hasn’t scratched one bit after 100+ uses (including using metal). It came with a dumpling steamer that I use all the time now. It’s super easy to wash. I wouldn’t have paid for it, but I’m glad I have it.
