is the always pan worth it?

- In September 2020 I was gifted the Always Pan by Our Place with no obligation to post, and I decided to cook with it every day to see if it really lived up to the hype! The Always Pan is marketed to be a "do-it-all wonder is designed to replace 8 traditional pieces of cookware." It's been sent to SO many influencers (including myself) and has been sold out numerous times with a ton of rave reviews.
The Always Pan: bit.ly/39tESNI
When I first received it, it was priced at $150 CAD on their website, then I checked again in November where it was priced at 180 CAD, and now it's at $195 CAD. As far as I know it seems to be the same product? I know there has been changes from the first version (sold around $100 USD), but from the one that I received in September vs the ones they're selling now, I haven't seen any updates to any changes to their pans.
For what it's worth, I've heard their customer service is generally pretty good about sending you a new one if your pan gets "defective" but at least 3 of you told me you were sent replacement pans, and while that's good customer service, 3 seems to be a high number of people within my audience to have had to seek customer service help.

I don't think your are being overly critical. People who are experienced in the kitchen would be frustrated with the performance of this pan. I think it's completely overhyped.
Buy a cast iron, take care of it and save some money.
same i agree. as a fellow cook this pan would infuriate me knowing all of these details. thank you for sharing an honest review!
I'm not really a cook at all. but I would destroy this pan so quickly.
With you completely.
I found a cast iron pan in the woods 14 years ago i brought it home fixed it up and it's now ?y always pan. It was free it's the best pan I've ever had...
Or, buy good stainless steel I have used for 50 +years. I do use cast iron regularly for certain dishes. Love cast iron, too. Prices are going up for the Always Pan because this will be short lived. Great review. I lost it with “no-stick” surface. Don’t like nonstick of any kind. Never lasts. Thanks for honesty.
low to medium heat? For that reason, I'm out
@@JHidalgo2010 And the flipside of that is the TAGINE, which can take 2.5 hours on low to med heat. Chicken thighs jettison the bone. Prep and forget until that smell fills the house.
Right? No woking in that pan (okay, okay, not the right pan for wok cooking but you get my point) : )
Pros: it's beautiful
Cons: Everything else.
they better have a good warranty for the pan
I've almost been sucked in by the aesthetics of this pot, so I really appreciate your thorough and honest review!
Same here!
Same so glad I saw this so I can just take it off my list! I would have been so pissed if I had bought it.
Yup 100% especially when the coating is scratched up it’s no longer safe. Read about how safe ceramic coatings are friends✌🏾
I wanted this pan for so long and just saw that it was on sale almost bought it but decided to watch a few reviews first. I’m so glad I didn’t pull the trigger! Think I’ll just buy a cast iron and stone
For me, it was an immediate no go when I found out the pan wasn’t oven safe. I like to start my tofu on the burner, finish it in the oven. It’s over $150 US, and for that price it better do all I want!
for this much money it should grocery shop for you!
Another good point! At least with cast iron, it's oven safe.
Its oven safe-up to 450°. I just baked chicken in it with no issues.
Bruh, everything should be heat safe...especially the handle...we should not be burning ourselves because it's heavy sometimes
That is my only gripe with it. I actually bought a second one. I do use it more than once a day.
Finally. A real honest relatable and genuine. Thank you, really needed this. I might cancel my order now lol.
Whomever designed that pan doesn't cook.
Also, some influencers do not cook
@CE Juson
Lol, very true, lol 😆
I really appreciate a detailed, critical review rather than just "this pan is great." I'm here for your cast iron video too! I love my cast iron pan when I use it, but for some reason it's just not my go-to pan.
This is exactly all the things I was concerned about just from their ads. Thank you for confirming it. No matter who runs the company, the product is over hyped and underperforming. Thank you for always being honest in your reviews. It is great to have someone you feel you can trust youtube.
🙌 10/10 review. So detailed, very honest, and you evaluated every angle of that thing. At that price, I’d rather buy a Le Creuset pan that’s reliable, and gimmick-free. I’ll be here for all your kitchen appliance reviews.
Sounded like a sincere review, and I am relating to and agreeing with your assessment. The company is definitely excellent at marketing, but as a serious cook, I would have to not choose this pan, unless I was using it for looks and not "everything" functionality.
the person who designed this pan doesn’t understand basic cookery techniques.
The company should watch this review. I love how you included so much detail. I wanted one but am glad I watch this first!
Thanks for an honest review, i'm so tired or seeing these FAKE influencers bragging about a dumb pan. this is literally the most gimmicky thing ive ever seen. I doubt anyone who is actually educated about cooking like a chef, uses one of these. These pans are for people who dont know anything better to do with their money. Shame they marketing this to an everyday person who probably shouldn't spend their hard earned money. Get cast iron, a stainless steel, and a cheap nonstick and call it a day.
I am a chef and I just bought one.I will always cherish my LeCrueset pans but I love trying new things too. Hopefully doesnt disappoint
Really appreciate your honest review for this one! I saw the one you posted on your IG story originally and loved how thorough you were!
All valid points!! As a professional chef, I too love functionality over aesthetics. I knew from the moment I heard about this pan it was overhyped! Different pans exist for different reasons. Thank you for such an honest review, coming from someone who cooks a lot🙏🏾
Thank you for this review. The look is amazing and most reviews are so supportive I was skeptical of the price tag. Glad to see an honest review from someone who cooks regularly.
This was such a great, honest review!
Also that makeup looks stunning on you!
Thank you for such a great review! I love that you have suggestions on how the product could be improved
Girl I love how they gave you this for free and you STILL went for the jugular! I love you!!!!! You’re a queen subscribing!
I have a silicone coated whisk for use in non-stick pans, so that's something to think about for someone who wants to make a sauce in a pan with an easily damaged coating.
This was the best review I’ve seen. I have watched so many videos but yours is hands down the most thorough. THANK YOU. Almost got sucked in buying one.
Love your honesty. This was an extremely helpful review. I see all these people I follow and "trust" using them and it does encourage me to get one if even just slightly. So they've been smart about sending it to influencers for free.
I’ve been wanting to get this pan, and I’m glad I came across your video. This is really helpful. Thanks!
If I spend a lot of money on cook ware I get Le Creuset. I can afford about one piece every two years or so but these things are very nearly unbreakable. There is nothing that compares to it where usability and durability are concerned. (And no I don't get paid to post this.)
Agreed - might as well spend on Le Creuset especially during sales
And the company replaces them for free
My thoughts exactly
I've always been really skeptical of these pans and I wonder how their business model is working for them. For the same cost, you could buy an all-clad skillet that will last you a lifetime + a nonstick skillet + a cast iron pan.
I got an ad for this pan as I was watching this video! Anyway, thank you for being so honest and thorough. Much appreciated!
I get ridiculously excited when I see a video of yours uploaded no matter what you're talking about or doing :'-)
Thank you for doing this video! I love cooking, and I’m honestly just as picky as you are, so your little knit picks were exactly what I was looking for. I had planned on asking for this pan for my 40th birthday in a couple of months, you saved me from embarrassment. Thanks!
I would love a video on how to take care of a cast iron pan!
Thanks so much for an honest video! I wasn’t even looking for anything related to this pan but glad your video showed up and that I watched it. I might have gotten tempted enough to buy this but I will just stick to my wok, carbon steel pans, stainless steel pans and a non-stick pan which I use occasionally.
I've been waiting for this video! I love your honest reviews :)
Thank you thank you for this honest and detailed review! I live in a small space and I am so glad I did not invest in the Always pan. There is nothing more frustrating than your food sticking on a non-stick pan. I love that you took your time to really incorporate the item into your day to day and found all the small details that really do make a difference! I would love to learn what are the top 3 pans / cookware you would highly recommend in anyone's kitchen?
Thanks for the thorough review.. I inherited a cast iron Dutch oven fry pan from my grandmother; it's a regular shallow skillet paired with a deeper skillet that functions as two skillets or a Dutch oven. I keep it well seasoned and use it all the time. However, for certain specific oil-free recipes calling for a nonstick pan, I also have a $40 pan by Ozeri, which I purchased on a recommendation from Mic the Vegan on UA-cam. The nonstick surface seems durable, and I follow the manufacturer recs and I like it a lot for crisping pressed tofu and some other recipes.
"I am both cheap and also willing to shell out cash for good products" - high five girl :). I'm so glad I watched this. I've been eyeing the pan for a while now - but you're right bamboo steamer ain't worth $50!
Great review! Long term reviews are the only useful ones on non-stick pans. They all work great when they are new. This was really helpful.
I loved your review of this pan. I too see a lot of my favorite you tubers using this pan and have wondered about it- if it was worth the money. I for one am glad now I didn't buy into the hype. Thanks Lisa.
I just got mine about to weeks ago and I already feel exactly the way you expressed yourself here. It's going back ASAP! No way keeping something I have to baby when I'm a super busy homeschooling mom of 2 and wife of one.
Thanks for the honest review.. too many talking this up and found it hard to believe it's so perfect. I will keep looking for my new pans 👍🏼
Wow this came up on my feed right on time! just last night I was thinking to myself about wanting something more non-stick than what I already have and I was curious about this pan that always kept appearing in ads targeted to me. I had no idea it was that expensive, yikes!! Thanks for this thorough review! :D
I so want the green one too (always pan). Oh along with the bamboo steamer. Thanks for sharing.
I really needed this review, I was thinking of buying this as a gift to myself but would love to hear more about the cast iron pan you have.
I'm so grateful for you to do this review since this is pricey and I've been on the fence. On a different note: love your eyeshadow and lipstick color. The red tone complements with your skin tone.
The same thing happened to my always pan too. It developed a weird sticky coating from the oil. I can't remember what I used to get off. At first I remember using the doctor Bronner's multipurpose soap. But I had to get a stronger dish soap and soak the pan to lift the sticky coating. I also have the bamboo steamer that came with the red pan. So steaming dumplings or veggies is no problem. What I like about the pan and the company, is their customer service. My first pan came with scratches and chips in the non stick coating. So they sent me a brand new set free of charge. They let me keep the first pan to do what I want with it. So its mainly used as a steamer or to boiling pot. Plus I use a silicone wisk for my sauces. It's an okay pan. I paid $175 USD for the red set. I'm shocked the price has gone up for just the basic version of the pan.
That's awesome that they were so quick to help you, their customer service sounds really great.
I'm with you! Spending $200.00 on such a finicky pot/fry pan is ridiculous!😕
This is my first time commenting on your video. I love your honesty. Thank you Lisa for being genuine and not hypocrite.
Loved your honesty and because you actually like to cook, your feedback is so relatable. Thank you! I almost ordered it because they’re pretty and seemed practical. I love cooking with a cast iron pan and Le Creuset. You’re right, the Always pan should be able to last and work well for $200!
Thank you so much for this honest and through review. There are so many overhyped products around and it's hard to sift through them all!
My cast iron skillets passed down from my late Mom are still going non-stick strong; I also have one De Buyer carbon steel as well. My Sam's club non-stick pans are going on 8yrs and aside from the exterior bottoms and sides, the cooking surface is good as new. When it comes to high heat searing, nothing beats my cast iron and carbon steel. My interest in the Always Pan lasted about 10 mins of youtube video reviews. Thanx for the objective video.
I just received this gift along with the Spruce steamer fir Mother’s day. So far I love this pan . I am a Seniorcand the weight of the pan is great to handle. But I did burn my hand on the outside handle for I was not expecting it to be hot since the handle and knob on the cover are not hot. Cleans up really well. There were no instructions on how to use the steamer though. I know how to use the metal steamer with about a cup of water for vegetables. Maybe there is a recipe book but afraid it might cost too much. Thank you for your honest evaluation of the always pan.
So glad you posted. I have been so tempted to buy it bc it's so pretty, but I don't have the time to baby a pan. Thanks!
I love the way that you think about the pan and analyze it on this video. I guess I just like the way that you think. This video was very instructive.
Thank you for this honest review
Definitely do a video about cast iron pans Lisa! But that being said, just loved your honest review of that pan 👌🏼
This was an excellent review. I am not a pro chef, but I'm tired of "no-stick" pans that fail early and become just another door stop pan. Thanks for this review. I found it spot on, and a very independent review.
Thank you for the honest review.
Thank you… I’ve been looking for a lid that makes a very satisfying sound when you ding it 😂😂
Thank you so much for your honest review. I had just ordered this pan on Black Friday sale which cost me about $140 CAD. I have cancelled the order. What sealed the fate of this order was the medium to low heat. There were other things of course such as the metal steamer. Didn't think about that! I'm going to order the Eslite pan set on Amazon. Great reviews and I can use high heat. I don't want fussy cookware! Thanks again. Going to check out your channel. Loved this!
Thanks for the honest review!🙏💕
Thanks for the review! I have been super curious about this pan because it's so pretty and you're the perfect reviewer because we have similar fusses and spending habits. I totally feel you about the steamer situation. Plus the basket appears so low that it's actually boiling the veg and not steaming. And yes, the bamboo steamer basket from the asian market is waaaay cheaper! That's what turned me off from the brand altogether. Your thorough review rocks, Lisa! It totally backs up everything I've concluded after all my research on this pan from other influencers and reddit. Thanks again!
For the way that I cook and how I live this pan works for me. I personally despise cast iron cookware. But I really appreciate your honest review and unique perspective.
Such honest and detailed review
I really appreciate this review!! I’ve been curious about this pan because it’s so pretty and that shape of pan is definitely my favorite to use for lots of different things (I have 4 different pans that are that shape!). I have used Green Pans for the last 10 years or so and been overall pleased with them! They also have a ceramic nonstick finish, so you do have to be careful with them (no metal utensils, limited high heat use, hand wash only), but I’ve never had the polymerization happen with them! They don’t last forever, the nonstick definitely starts to wear off with use, but overall I’ve been happy with them. A set can be pricey, but I bought our most recent set on sale from Macy’s for $169 US for a 10 pc set. If anyone’s looking for ceramic nonstick pans, I would recommend checking out Green Pan!
We got a greenpan a few months ago, and were happy enough with it that we ended up getting a few more. They're expensive too, but not that expensive. You could probably find 3-4 on sale for the price of the Always pan
Yes! I've been using GreenPans for like 8 years. I really like them and use them for nearly all my cooking (although I'm digging out my cast iron now that Lisa reminded me that I own one)
I’ve used a green pan at someone else’s house (I’m a personal chef) and EVERYTHING stuck to it. I wanted to throw it against the wall after trying to use it for a month. Was I doing something wrong or what??
@@CookbooksonRepeat you need to shorten the cooking time if you are using a Green pan. They generate heat quicker and more evenly, saving you time and money. I hope this helps.
an even more comprehensive view than Instagram! I am bringing my burnt pancakes i made in the always pan
Burnt pancakesss nooo 😭
I would love to see your video on how you use your cast iron! I have had one for a year now and there are a few things I love using it for but I'm still learning it I think.
Thank you, I was going to buy this as a gift for my daughter who is a great cook. I saw one review before yours and decided to view yours and I'm glad I did. I do agree with you about the look of the Always pan, it is beautiful to look at but performance is paramount.
Thanks for being super honest!!!
You're 100% spot on - I've had mine about 3 months as well and have to add, the spatula (which is awesome the first month or so) does split and crack. I've been through 2 already, and take good care of my equipment. If the pan was cheaper, I would have almost no issue with it, but the performance has been a little disappointing for the price point.
Even if the pan is $50 it seems the people who made this are so out of touch with what cooks actually need and how they cook. Thank you for reviewing this and I'm so glad you didn't have to pay for that. Feels like a scam.
this review was so helpful !
I am looking into investing in a nice pan
and pot for on the road living, this has
been on the top of my list for a while
but i'll save the money and try find
something else ♡
I appreciate your honest review of this pan. I am lured in by it's beauty, and I want to believe that it's everything that they say it is, but I have to agree with you. It does seem to be overpriced and all of the points you've made about the functionality, are also things that I easily agree with you on. If I buy anything from this company, it would be their dishes and drink glasses. Those look really streamline and minimalistic, which I love.
THANK YOU! I was about to pull the trigger and buy this pan but after watching your video, I am sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would be very frustrated with this pan and would definitely regret this purchase. Thank you for saving me this (not insignificant!) chunk of change.
Cast iron pan video please! How you cast it and how you clean it 😊
Thanks for the review!
As an experienced cook. You are completely on point about this pan. It’s just beautiful and nothing else. All my friends who did buy this expensive always pan, they do not use it because it not functional. They can’t or do not want to throw it away because they spent so much money on it .
Great review. Your feedback is exactly the same things I look for in a pan and agree that I'm not sure it's worth the cost. It is beautiful and if it lived up to the hype - then definitely but some of those functionality points you mentioned (especially the deal with the hot handle on both side and the lid) are key. As well as (of course) the fact that the non-stick deteriorates so quickly. And I completely agree with your issues with the basket insert - not a great design. I was looking at purchasing one of these for our camper van but not sure it's worth the money given these things. And the fact that the steamer baskets have to be purchased separately and for $50!? That's crazy. Thanks for your honest feedback - really helpful!
Thank you so much for this review 💗!!
Thank you for the brutal honesty!
I have gotten so many sponsored ads for this pan so I'm so excited for this video
this is the most accurate and relatable review! I also used the pan everyday for 2 months and it lost its nonstick quality :(
You’ve explained it all so well in detail. The price is what’s kept me away. I just can’t afford it. Thank You so much for sharing so much about this pan.
I really enjoyed your pragmatic and knowledgeble analysis which also demonstrated that you know your way around the kitchen. I purchased the duo package of the Our Place offered just before Xmas 2021 as the hype ads appealed to me. It was expensive but I felt I am spending so much less going out since Covid that $325 for two pots that did what they said was no issue. BUT I found out fairly quickly that even using great quality oil you have to monitor the temperature transition within the frying pan. At just beyond medium heat (6 of 9)on my induction range the pan was sizzling hot very quickly! The non stick issue worked great for about one month but then an egg edge stuck!!!! I'm thinking what the heck is this but learned that the raised centre diverts any oil injected( in this case butter) to the perimeter ring of the pan and the egg stuck on essentially a dry surface. On the other hand the cooking pot has been awesome for soup prep and similar type recipes. So, was it worth the $325 the answer is a simple NO! . Kind of like buying a Volvo sports car that turns out to drive like a Volvo. Okay but no sizzle!
Thank you soooo much for your honest review! It is a beautiful pan but for the price, is not as functional as we would hope. Keep the candid review comin as its truly appreciated.
I actually just got a silicone whisk, and I’m pretty freaking stoked about it. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Someone had to say it and our girl did!!! I -almost- got it and was waiting for a someone to be honest and real. Thank you!
Thanks for the review! I had pre-ordered this pan twice but canceled my order after thinking about it further. The price seemed absurd. Instead I’ve spent far less money on adding more cast iron to my arsenal, and I’m so happy I did!! The big Chrissy Teigan seasoned skillet from Target was $29 and has served me so well.
I just got my always pan from Chapters, I waited 4 weeks because it was two hundred dollars. Yesterday the total price was 75 dollars Canadian, i bought it straight away. I love it because it is light in weight and yet strong in material. It serves my purpose of light cooking. I can never handle a cast iron for the heaviness and the mistake of putting soap. I am happy.
for my small body, the non stick is great, also I only do light cooking
Y
This is a really useful review. I really value my space and want my chosen items to be very hardy. If I had a kitchen space that focused on aesthetic, that would be a lovely piece. But an art piece for a kitchen for one, perhaps.
Thank you for your honest review! I debated on ordering this pan but have decided against it.
I would love to see any video you do about cast iron pans. I was raised cooking with them and they are my favorite. The pans and 1 large pot I have now are all over 100 years old and I a the third and fourth generation to own them. I will never give them up!!!
What a super review!! I am the same when it comes to being frugal but willing to pay for quality. The endlesssearch for the best pan goes on…
I wish I had watched your video before I bought my pan. I will watch your cast iron pan video now. Thank you.
I have watched so many reviews about the always pan and this was the most accurate and real description of this product. I love love love that it is a woman owned brand, but if the product is useless (which it is) and needs a lot of work to make it become a staple, I definitely will not be buying it.
Thank you, that was a great review.
The best affordable non-stick pan I've found is the IKEA 365+. The 11” is $30 and has a five year warranty that includes the non-stick surface! You can buy a matching glass lid with a vent for about $10. Way cheaper than Paderno and other brands, and I would say it performs better too.
I got mine almost a year ago and it’s still very non-stick. It’s so easy to clean, and I’m super pleased.
I think your review is spot on. Good job.
Thank you Lisa! Very informative 👍💞
I absolutely love your review 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Its super thorough and really highlights the flaws in the design. I don't think it's worth the hype at all. Thank you.
