Always Pan Pro review: decent nonstick, terrible quality control

- We've reviewed every single version of Our Place's flagship Always Pan over the past 4 years and this is definitely the best one yet - though it's worth noting that the bar is in hell.
That new titanium surface does release food pretty easily, but some confusing design, manufacturing, and marketing decisions hinder what could be a decent pan. Then there's the $200 price point.
It's a pass from me, but if you've tried it out and want to put in your two cents, go add a review over on cultflav.com!

Of course you're the first channel to actually talk about this pan with more details than just the marketing info. Shocked you're only at 6k subs.
We're getting there - we were only at 1k at the beginning of the year!
Subbing now!
I locked eyes on a V2 always pan at the mall today and a few hours later was hit with a Facebook ad for the titanium version. Shit looked sketchy so I went searching for reviews. Yours seems to be the only genuine one, very informative and funny too. Thanks Cult Flav!
I was SOOO close to purchasing this pan. Thanks to your video, will definitely look elsewhere for a better design/quality version. Excellent work with your videos! I too am surprised that you don’t yet have tens of thousands + followers.
This is the review I needed! Proper research and understanding of what home cooks need! Seriously impressed you guys looked up the patent, that’s some serious work, fair play!
I follow you guys on TikTok and just found you here. Once again, you saved me from being sucked into slick (pun intended) pan marketing! I am shocked to find that such practical, unbiased, and quality reviews don't command a larger audience here though. You simply don't have the following you deserve based on your information and effort - plus, I just like the two of you.
My wife has a background in home goods manufacturing, product design, and safety testing (nothing kitchen related - but everything else from alarm clocks with sunlight lamps to trigger point massagers, and vacuums) and I keep telling her people could really benefit from the trade secrets she's learned to help them buy quality products and save money, but she always says people wouldn't be interested in a straight forward science based review (which is how I view your reviews), all they want is short attention span flashy presentations. I guess maybe she's right, but things are so expensive these days; knowing how to make wise buying decisions can help take some of that sting out.
Anyway, sorry for the novel, I just wanted to let you know I appreciate what you guys put into the world and I hope one day soon you get to celebrate your millionth subscriber!
I've been watching reviews on this pan and this was the first channel to say that there actually IS a coating, which it does. Everyone else is going off the marketing claim that there is no coating. So thank you.
I've now (just this morning) gotten a response from their team and they make a very pedantic claim that it's not a coating simply because it's not applied, it's created by a thermal process that causes the titanium to react with the air creating a layer of titanium oxide. I would still contend that an additional layer that *coats the surface* is, in fact, a coating.
@@cultflav while it is by technical definition a coating, it would be nitpicking to toss it in the same catagory of PAN coatings like nonstick Teflon. Titanium dioxide forming from treating titanium is still far from the lack of durability of traditional non-stick. Just playing devil's advocate, we'll still have to see long term it's true durability
@koko4620 eh, if they're pedantic about it for marketing purposes and the surface is covered in another material, I certainly feel comfortable saying it's coated by it bc that surface is fully (and easily) removable. Also it's just such silly marketing... 🤷♂️
In good news, I've gotten a lot more info from the Our Place team and put this pan to a few more tests with very interesting results (like removing said "coating"). Filming the follow-up now, should be out in the next couple weeks!
the best reviews as always, love the channel!
Excellent job. Concisely provided the information I needed to make a decision. Saw the marketing but wanted an objective perspective - thank you for providing jt. Keep up the good work 👊🏻
You should get Michelin stars for your on-point, no nonsense, streamlined, no bs review. I really wish more tech reviewers would adopt the same approach. Many thanks for your high attention to detail and all the additional context- very much appreciated.
So glad I was doing my research and came across your channel. You saved me a lot of money! Thank you for all you do in your awareness of products and their BS claims! ♥
Dude awesome review, such great thought and delivered really well. Keep up the video making, you’re great at it.
Killer video. This was recommended on my Home Screen after watching another review. This channel is definitely on the way up! Going to catch some of your cookbook reviews
I asked them about the oven safe figure and they said it's 100% safe to 1000 degrees and the 575 was a misprint.
Always love when a there’s a new cult flav video! Am I the only one who thinks all of these hex clad and hex clad looking pans are going to age poorly? I just associate them with style over substance and I can see that style becoming dated…
Ngl I found your channel cuz I’m new to the Always campaigns and was looking for the stupid funny ads. I did not expect to get such a concise review complete with a chemistry lesson. (::cough:: I don’t cook, but my husband does. I immediately passed your vid on)
Dude. Keep it up! You got me to subscribe at 10min. I’m used to feeling inept when it comes to the kitchen. But I’m all for learning new things. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks for the review nicely done
Who knew Pete Davidson was such a great reviewer? Thank you for the refreshing and honest information. Great job!
Detailed and entertaining review. Salute
Thank you for this review. Extremely helpful.
Very informative video. Was helpful in my choice of cookware.
Very helpful! Almost bought it too early.
Thank you for putting in an actual 0. I love that you use all the numbers, and don't automatically give something 5 points for being an object that exists. It really helps.
I'm sad, though, that Always are going to just keep on making these things and influencers will keep talking about them and using them in their videos.
I'm also going to go back and find out what you dislike about that innocent spatula, because while I'm happy to think that the holder on the handle that only works with that specific spatula is absolutely silly, I don't really follow what's wrong with the spatula itself other than its absolute lack of need to exist and I'm sure it costs too much to replace it too.
It's just a very short-handled low-quality spatula with a hole in the middle. It has no valid reason to exist bc you can buy better ones for a couple bucks.
Having titanium is a plus 4 advertisement but after watching this review.I'm grateful.I came to your site because i'm extremely fussy about what I cook on
Really great, informative review. Keep it up!
Was looking into stainless steel pots and this new pan came into the sponsorship ads, being new and I looked into tue titanium technology. Saw all the heston brands and was curious. Thank you for your review.
I feel lile Always, is mainly marketed to home cooks in the younger generations who like asthetics, influencer marketing, easy use.
Thank you for your review,
Love your honest review and expertise! Thank you so much for saving me $275!
Thanks for the great and honest review. God bless you man for the time you put in.
I was about to buy this pan but not
Good review. The best feature of this pan is that it has welded handles; no rivets. It's amazing to me how many premium brands of cookware use rivets, which are unsanitary in practice. One final point: titanium dioxide, which is used as a white paint pigment (among other things) is NOT the same as titanium oxide. This pan looks like it was coated in a plating process, and then abrasively relieved on the high faces of the hexes. Some pans, like Heston, use vacuum-deposited titanium -chromium alloy in their process, not oxides, which should be superior. At this price point, this pan may also have received it's surface in a vacuum-dep process, but you are correct that it was applied to flat sheet, then stamped into the pan shape. Keep up the good work!
Based on the patent spec, it looks like thermal curing was required for the coating, so my best guess was molding/3d printing the pattern + bake + abrasion of the grid - hard to know for sure without a design patent, which I couldn't find. I did find that titanium dioxide was referred to as "titanium (IV) oxide" and may have misunderstood the differentiation. Regardless, always appreciate a nuanced critique 🤝
Chemistry wise, you're correct that titanium 4 oxide is literally the same as titanium dioxide. Oxygen's charge is -2 so 2 oxygens are bonded to a +4 titanium, hence titanium dioxide. So now I'm even more confused than before about the marketing of this coating that really is no different (chemically) than mineral sunscreens. Of course application and dosage can make a big difference.@@cultflav
@kolbypham7318 I think I just discarded that (iv) in my brain as being of secondary importance. Learning! Thanks for the help!
@@cultflav not to mention, on further research, EU banned titanium dioxide as a food additive for safety concerns.
$330 in Australia. 😮
THANK YOU!!!
Very much appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks! What non-stick that is non toxic / non coated pan similar to this do you recommend? This size and also skillet thanks
The wooden spoon as a dog toy took me out, lol😂
Ty for review, i kid you not it's like youtube intentionally deluges with crappy, bizarre, misleading ads as a way to get a viewer to buy their premium account. smh
Tbh YT premium is my biggest value-added subscription by a huge margin.
@@cultflav not surprised these scammy scummy ads are almost annoying and creepy enough to get me buying.
Thanks for the honest review. This is the second pan I’ve seen an ad for on IG and thought “that sounds great!” then after looking up real reviews I realised they’re terrible for the asking price.
I just want a metal utensil safe non-stick pan. (Or maybe I should learn to cook with stainless steel?)
Stainless is pretty great, the challenge is just tender things like eggs, fish, tofu, etc. Carbon steel is decent for those, but I think nonstick is nice to have in a pinch for specific items.
Just found you. Thanks for a good honest review.
Thanks for the honest review! What’s your fav all around pan. I currently use a misen carbon steel but it’s unfortunately gotten slightly warped so I am looking for a new pan.
The one I reach for the most is just a 3-4qt sauté. My fav is the Demeyere Industry5. I have two bc I use them so much.
Objective, funny and saved me from spending some of my hard earned on something that is close to if not real junk right outa the box. Also very expensive for something I can get at Aldi for 1/10 the price. Seems the quest for a real non-stick pan without forever chemical coatings continues. Don't stop doing what you do so well. FB: couldn't understand all the audio but understood enough to get it
Thanks for this review, honest and in depth, you saved me 215.00, thanks again
Dang I was about to buy this and thank goodness I found your video. I’m looking to get a new multi purpose nonstick pan… what do you recommend? I want to make sure I get healthy Pan! Thank you!
No such thing as a "healthy pan". They're all unhealthy under certain conditions. What matters is that it's used appropriately. PTFE is convenient within its operating conditions (e.g. soft utensils + low heat). Carbon steel is decent outside of those conditions. Stainless when you need to cook something acidic.
@@cultflav thanks for sharing! I do have a stainless steel pan, hoping to replace my current nonstick. Too many scratches. Any brand I should look into? Thank you again!
Hype and marketing has just been bitch slapped back to the stone age , thanks for an HONEST review.
Boasts metal utensil safe and gives you a wooden one?
Thanks for the no-nonsense review. Illuminating. When I heard "3 Michelin" on their publicity, all the "money grab" alarms jumped.
Thanks for the review! Do we have any idea what their lifetime guarantee covers? It’s hard to tell with their mixed messaging. On the one hand they claim this pan has non-stick performance, and that the lifetime guarantee includes performance. But then as you point out, their use instructions seem very much like a traditional stainless steel pan. So hard to tell what level of performance they are guaranteeing 🤔
It explicitly excludes "normal wear & tear" if that helps clear things up?
@@cultflavjust hard to know what they’re going to claim is normal wear and tear when they’re claiming “the titanium surface is virtually indestructible”
@@meinkanta as much as possible, probably 😅
lol what’s the stainless steel pan in the back when you start testing the always
When is the make it fancy review coming out?
Next week! A little editing left to go.
Thank you.
Great review
Earned a sub. Fantastic vid.
Thanks for uploading this, what Non-toxin Non-stick cookware would you recommend?
Also wondering this.. 🤔
It seems everything non-stick contains PTFE.
So the challenge is that no cookware actually contains toxins which are technically "antigenic poisons produced by plants or animals". All cookware can be harmful depending on how it's used, and lots of production is harmful in itself. Nonstick tends to be more likely to be harmful because of its production requirements and its frequency of misuse. There's nuance here that just doesn't make for good marketing.
I'm going with enameled cast iron, heavy and expensive but very durable from what I've read.
Notably not nonstick, however.

That's where butter comes in.
Great review as most of the ones out there don't even talk about the quality or lack of.
Expand your content. Your honest reviews can be used everywhere.. thank you!!
This man needs to do a review on solidteknics stainless pan
I'm extremely apprehensive... why one sheet of stainless (which has terrible thermal conductivity)? Why does it look like a torture device?
This was a GREAT review. I, too, have tried every Our Place Pan - and have been disappointed by each. Glad to just watch this review and not have to try the Pro myself. Thank you for this.
Any decent alternatives? Currently using a ninja one but the coating is terrible..
What about the coating is terrible?
@@cultflavthey claim it's metal utensil safe but it literally cuts through the coating, already on my 2nd replacement set as they're under warranty.
@copieXD hmmm. We weren't able to scratch it even when trying to with a sharp fish spatula...
@@cultflav I can show you some images of the old one and the latest one I have if you wish?
@copieXD to be clear, I believe what you're saying. I'm just curious about how there's such variation. Could you send those photos to bryn at cultflav dot com? Would love to see what you're working with...
Aw man Facebook got me all excited 😂😂 Thanks for the review!!
Thanks, you just saved me £190. So...what do you recommend for a half decent pan that isn't covered in toxic shite?
Why do brands like always pan and hexclad lie and say they reinvented the wheel and u can use metal utensils on their non stick cookware?
thank you for the truth... seriously.
Their commercial looked sus and really makes me angry (lying to consumers)
Their ads keep saying its indestructible, even saying it can be run over by a tank. It's that valid at all?
Not even close. I can easily scratch off the hardest component - the titanium oxide layer - with an HRC45 rasp (read: softer than any kitchen knife on the market)
wow, can't believe they are trying to market this as a high end pan but don't use glass lids, I'll never buy a pan without the lids being clear glass.
Fwiw, most high-end pans don't have glass lids (though I also prefer them).
Thanks for saving me $200 😅
Word to that
Appreciated…Will not purchase
I don't like the idea of that wooden spatula being a part of the so-called always pan. It is clearly not non-destructible and who wants a burnt wood taste in their chicken?
Induction?
the ad for this product with that chef is so god damn try-hard cringey lol like, he swears in it but he sounds and looks like an absolute tool. you can tell this thing was gonna be bogus, and the only thing missing was the backstory if it being developed by some former navy seals and that big pharma is consonantly trying to pull it off the market because it's so revolutionary.
I'm almost always annoyed by how pretentious the spokespeople are for these pans but this one irritated me more than usual... Dude, it's a commercial for a pan. Is the cursing necessary? (And I work in construction...)
Good review. I'll continue to not buy these products.
I am in the market for a deep skillet/ sautee pan and was wondering which one would you choose between made in sautee pan or this our place pro pan? I am new at cooking so my knowledge on cookware is limited to say the least. I usually go with what ATK recommends.
Made In. I would probably not recommend this Always Pan to anyone.
