Being an experienced lighting designer/lighting programmer & operator for theatre's and music festivals. I never ever want to touch a moving head with a manual focus. Reasoning why is because I normally have moving heads above the tech area to project onto the stage with a gobo and when out of focus I need to have a fader to control it. I've used Martin Mac Viper Performances, Chauvet Maverick MK2's and Chauvet Rogue R2 Spot's before. If your gonna buy new moving heads with more features, I'd highly recommend Chauvet Rogue R2 Spots, they're about £1.5k each, but really worth the price.

Rhys If you’re even considering buying lights like this for any non-mobile DJ setup its not going to be good

What's the downside of electronic focus BUT manual zoom? IE: the Chauvet 360X spots.

What’s some of the specific differences with the Chauvets vs foreign knockoffs? Not specs per say, but what is noticeable in application. I may get a knockoff 350W for a outdoor house display for $ reasons, but I know there will be some usability penalty.

    • @opaz.
      @opaz.  4 роки тому +1

One reason for not getting the knock offs Chris is i dont know how reliable their dmx control is (in the knock offs).
The menu control can also be a bit off of what the manual explains. Spec might not be truthful (options missing). Are you really getting that 90W (etc) led as advertised on the net and how reliable is the complete unit?.
I have bought non branded lights, simply cos their so cheap for what they offer and so far I've been lucky. The price of the 350's was too high to gamble on non branded lights.
My ADJ spotlight pro's are more reliable with their menu control than the cheapo's and the ADJ's are reliable with the remote.
If you want to spend a little on non branded small 30w moving heads with sound-light control, pars, then they're great value. Cheap derby or sunflower lights are great too, go for it. Big money on your WOW lights is the way to go and i recommend branded only. You need that brand warranty reliability, clear instruction manual and reliable hassle free operation & ownership.

@@opaz. Thanks for the response. I've already noticed significant discrepancies in documentation and specs for some of the foreign products I've purchased for a home holiday light show. In that hobby space there are hardly any name brands making the light hardware. But the moving head I want for my show seems to be $1k (foreign) vs. $10k (name brand). I know there's no such thing as a free lunch.

You'll need a lighting controller and then via a dmx channel you can control it for complex movements. Onboard it has sound to light and other simple programmes in its menu
Some of these small unknown/unbranded moving heads are poor copies and may not even work on simpler sound to light functions or dmx control

Pretty cheap, these are cheap. I started off with chauvet but after that, I went for name brands n the quality is literally night and day.
But there's one thing they all had to have n that's to be focusable via DMX. I did have a very small desk but I ran them all via a laptop.

( Please someone tell me how far away the brightness is of/from a single 60 watt 8 Gobo moving head light is) i also have one of the white U`King RGBW 60Watt 8 Gobo moving head white light and i haven't used it outside or inside a big public palce. i usually use in my house and i am so curious of how many feet distance / how far feet distance the light can reach since it's 60 watts and holly shit this thing is soooo bright. My first RGBW light was a 15 watt adjustable one position light black and that thing is still frickin bright. After like a few years of having the small DMX light, i was once being stupidly idiotic. I disassembled it to check the inside of it and see the fan size and also the componets and i apparently accidentally broke it sadly. I ended up throwing it away since i couldn't fix it :| But after that.I founded a white color moving head 8 gobo 60 watt DMX U`King RGBW Light and holly shit this thing is so much more better and brighter plus it's even quieter than the other light i had. I have the white U`King moving head light still and i frickin love this light. i only have 1 light. I might get a bigger moving head light that is like, 250 watts or 260 watts or 230 watts that is 12 gobo. And alot higher price too. I also wanna get a controller board for the light too. I have a small little remote that my white light came with and i think i can use the little remote for the bigger light. Just 15 watts of LED Light is bright but 60 watts on a bigger light? Definitely better! I might get a couple more white U`King lights or get a couple black bigger lights with higher wattage. - By the way, how much is the Chauvet moving head light brand new? ( All my DJ gear is Numark NVii DJ controller, 2 QSC K10.2 K2's 2,000 watt DJ Speakers and 2 packs of the Gearlux XLR Microphone/Audio Cable, Fully Balanced, Male to Female, Black, 25 Feet long cables packs ( 2 packs of these XLR cables )

Good morning. In a completely dark room where your moving heads are the only source of light, 15 watts will be vivid. It will be bright but I think you may find that the beam angle of that light may be tight, making it look very bright. The gobo image will also look small. Those 15-50w led's are ok for small-medium venues but in larger venues they lose punch
Many venues will not be completely dark, due to the lighting in a bar, lighting in a buffet area or general all-round safe lighting where people can see in that room where they're going (health & safety measures) etc
With single gobos your lights will be bright. Adding a multi facet prism to 15 watts, that power will suffer with that much larger spread of light . In these multi moving heads, the led brightness will be bumped up considerably to cater for this.
There are many Chauvet moving heads to choose from. The 260 (75w) is crazy money new and I wouldn't recommend them. I would recommend used tried and tested models to cater for your needs. There are many to choose from
All lights look great in the dark, which is why i test my lights in the daytime ua-cam.com/video/5nAtPWPGQ4I/v-deo.html
      Hope this helps
You have some great gear QSC/Numark
      Good luck

@@opaz. I got rid of my 15 watt light many years ago before i bought my new 60 watt moving head light and i love this moving head light the most aswell. I currently not going to be buying the big 200+ watt lights because i am saving up some extra money to get the DMX controller and one or two of the moving head lights too. ( I could've boughten the bigger low price 100+ wattage head moving lights but i wanted to get a smaller size moving head and i got my stuff fully brand new in person and online

Forget the mini beams, they don't throw light far enough in big rooms, they get lost. Tiny/small rooms they're more effective and better.Get the 75 watts for the best results in larger rooms. Hope this helps
