I love how it seems like Godzilla actively doesn't want to be here. He spends the whole movie getting stronger so he can end the fight as soon as possible and go back to bed. He HATES Kong and all the wacky adventures he goes on, and is guilt-tripped by Mothra into helping him. He's an unwilling participant in his own movie and its kinda hilarious. In fact he doesn't hate Kong, at least not anymore, in the novelization there is a moment in Rio de Janeiro where it is said that Godzilla felt proud of Kong, in the film we saw the two smiling at each other before Godzilla shoots into the sky.

@@jykxela5927 Yes he can. He was clearly holding his own before he called Shimo out to fight for him. Not saying he will win, but Scar King can clearly hold his own against Kong. I would say SK is capable of beating Kong but it is more likely that Kong would win maybe 7/10 times.
Disagree. Its garbage pizza thats only good when youre high. Pure spectacle with nothing else going on but in 2024 we have enough spectacle that it just ends up being kinda boring. I mean we can obviously disagree but come on... its a medicore movie even as a fun summer flick.
I love how funny it is seeing Kong putting his hands and arms forward in front of Godzilla and saying 'Whoa take it easy I didn’t come here to fight you'. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I could be wrong, but I think it’s explained somewhere that Kong accidentally made an Alpha call when he was calling for help. and Godzilla saw that as a challenge.
@Kayoss13212 I don't know about that, from the way everyone was talking toward the first part godzilla would've fought kong anyway, call or no call, since they're both alpha titans
Fun Facts from the Novel: -Godzilla has a familial bond with Mothra, noted by Kong -Shimo is called the “Hypothetical” or “Monster H” because her existence was a hypothetical. She also had a battle with Godzilla in the past, and seemingly won badly, which is why Godzilla needed to power up. Shimo also froze Ghidorah. -Kong’s gauntlet is made from MechaGodzilla’s corpse -Last fact: Godzilla sleeping in the colosseum was inspired by the directors’ cat sleeping 😭 but lore wise it is because Roman architecture reminds him of the home that was blown up in KoTM
The part of Shimo being the one who froze Ghidorah confuses me because in the Godzilla: King of the Monsters novelization it states that Godzilla was the one that froze Ghidorah by trapping him under the ice. Unless Shimo indirectly froze Ghidorah by just being present at the time wherever she was in the world.
@@vangoghsnight4268 To answer both of your questions, no she didn’t freeze Ghidorah indirectly. The novel states that the ice signatures were a “localized” and independent event from the ice age event. This means Shimo directly froze Ghidorah, but whether that means she did it alone or help with Godzilla is unclear.
@@vangoghsnight4268 No clue it doesn’t say in the novel. It can be interpreted that Shimo did it solo if you wanna go the full retcon route, but if you wanna interpret it as Shimo collabing with Godzilla to beat Ghidorah, then that’s okay too
Shimo is not only responsible for the Ice age, she's also the reason King Ghidorah was frozen in King of the Monsters. In the lore Godzilla beat King Ghidorah while Shimo was causing the Ice Age which made Ghidorah freeze when he was defeated. Plus Shimo is also one of the biggest titans in the Monsterverse, she's actually bigger than Godzilla in size. Skar king is how a villain is supposed to be (which is rare with movies now) Tiamat first appeared in the comic Godzilla Dominion, she fought Godzilla in the comic, Tiamat has Also appeared in the Godzilla vs Kong vs Justice League comic too. Oh in the vs Justice League comic. Godzilla actually beat Superman, the Atomic Breath literally burned him and stopped his heart, it's because the Atomic Breath has a same effect like Kryptonite Superman's main weakness. People seem to forget that Kryptonite is radioactive chunks of Superman's homeworld.
Its more because Godzilla's main "food" is radiation of *all kinds* including Kryptonite. Godzilla literally absorbed it and shot a focused beam of Kryptonite right at Superman. A bullet made of it was enough to kill superman, imagine what a beam of it could do.
Radiation on Superman is incredibly inconsistent with how he absorbs solar radiation from stars to make him more powerful and has survived supernovas which release high amounts of gamma radiation. Than again, he doesn't absorb solar radiation from a red star so perhaps certain types of radiation could hurt him. What's more is that Superman in the main canon continuuty has been recently immune to Kryptonite for quite a while (And all types of radiation in general), this is just a non canon crossover. Godzilla honestly also beats Superman because of certain factors here that left Superman at a disadvantage. They were fighting in Metropolis so Superman was forced to hold back and not destroy the city in the process, it was night time, and because Superman purposely took an Atomic Breath head on to save Billy Batson (AKA Shazam) and while it did stop his heart, he's still alive and he and Godzilla are about to get a rematch pretty soon.
Skar King is honestly such a unique villain compared to the previous Monsterverse baddies. The Mutos and Skullcrawlers were Godzilla and Kong's respective natural enemies, Ghidorah was a living natural disaster and Mechagodzilla was basically a kaiju Terminator gone rogue. But Skar King? He's a very *human* kind of evil. He rules with political power and influence over his army and enslaves and abuses his own kind.
Fun fact guys this is the first movie where we get to see Mothra Godzilla and Kong together on the big screen. We were originally supposed to get a movie with king Kong and Mothra back in 1966 in Ebirah horror of the deep but ToHo swapped Kong out for Godzilla. So imagine how awesome it is when we see all three of them together. 4:52 that's skylla you've seen her already she bowed to Godzilla at the end of kotm but obviously she's going on a rampage so Godzilla gotta kill her
The only reason the swapped out Kong for Godzilla is that Toho lost rights to Kong that's why Godzilla is charged by electricity and kinda flirts with Kumi Mizuno.
@@williambanks2223 Toho released a Kong movie after Ebirah Horror of the Deep called King Kong Escapes where Kong fights Mechani-Kong. The real reason Kong was replaced with Godzilla in Ebirah is because of legal issues that didn't involve Toho losing the rights since they were able to make King Kong Escapes the following year and technical issues because Rankin-Bass who had also licensed Kong at the time for an animated series rejected the script for the movie. Toho on the other hand liked the script so they used Godzilla instead, Kongs powers and traits were just carried over into the film.
I do love how Kong and Shimo seemed to have forged a symbiotic bond similar to that of Godzilla and Mothra, Kong’s care and compassion for Shimo is very touching, especially when you consider his track record when it comes to giant reptilian creatures usually involves them trying to kill him.
I thought part of Shimos design and her overall freezing powers were partially or even completely inspired by Barugon, another lizard-like kaiju with freezing powers from the Gamera series. In fact an early concept of Shimo that eventually led to her final design was based on Barugon.
I think Mothra showing up wth Kong's little friend was the turning point for Godzilla realizing that Kong can be an actual full on ally. If Mothra is cool with Kong then Godzilla will be too. He respects her opinion over all others. Also, Shimo is adorable once she's freed. Just look at that face she makes when she sees Godzilla's magenta atomic breath light up the sky. She's like "how beautiful!"
Fun fact: Tiamat(the dragon snake titan in the artic) and Scylla(the giant squid crab titan that Godzilla founght in the beginning of the film) had appeared before in the prequel comics of the movies called Godzilla Dominion (a prequel comic to Godzilla vs Kong) and Godzilla X Kong the Hunted(the prequel comic to This movie).
@@OfficialMediaKnights Yep. And both Tiamat and Scylla attacked Godzilla before and they were warned. He didnt kill them for no reason. Both of them are classified as "Destroyer Titans".
This was the most Marvel-esque Monsterverse entry, which actually worked well in this case! I had a great time. Dan Stevens definitely channeling StarLord vibes. Also, Dan Stevens starred in the director Adam Wingard’s breakout movie “The Guest”, and that’s an awesome flick too!
The Guest is an awsome flick. Dan is also in Abigail the new vampire movie that came out last month. So a pretty big year for him and he's not done yet, he's also in another horror film coming out soon this year called Cuckoo that looks creepy and interesting.
Marvel-esque? I'd say it's more a big-budget version of the Showa films. Those movies got really wacky and no Godzilla film has ever felt more Showa since the actual Showa movies.
I love how they treated Godzilla like a big ole cat and how they made us sympathized with kong there was a few times where i just wanted to give him a big ole hug the colosseum scene; Godzilla If i Fits I Sleep XD Baby Kong was a little devil he looks cute but he's a cheeky one When shimo is not controlled she is a little cutie pie i love how kong gave her a head pat and a chin scratch
I love the natural progression of the bond between Kong and Suko. Even with that "I'll beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker" moment. And the fact that Jia was prophesized as a hero who can rouse Mothra from her slumber is amazing, same with her meeting other members of her people. Fun fact: Dan Stevens also played The Beast in the remake of Beauty And The Beast.
Kong has gone full Kratos. First he uses boat propellers on chains like the Blades of Chaos, then he grew a beard and wielded an axe, and now he has his very own Atreus to call "BOY!". 😂

After GvK I had a feeling they were gonna go in this direction but to be fair we felt this one was more balanced in terms of how much Godzilla we got. Such a great time!
@@OfficialMediaKnights I don't know, Godzilla only had about 9 minutes and 30-40 seconds of screen time compared to Kong but then again I guess Godzilla is supposed to feel like a heavy presence/plot device than an actual character compared to Kong who's all Ape and because of that they go the more actual character route for him because its easy. But it kinda takes away the Monster aspect of this franchise when they start to humanize the monsters.
To be fair Godzilla got a lot of lore dump in 2014, King of the Monsters and the Monarch Legacy series. Kong just has one movie before GvK and that one also touched a lot on the lore that wasn't fully explored. So it makes sense for this movie to be more Kong-centric. Maybe the next one will be more Godzilla-centric to balance it out.
If you pay close attention to what the insurance says, it says Gargantua, which is a literal call back to the 1966 toho kaiju film, "War of the Gargantuas"
Don't know if they have or have not seen that movie or if they even know about it. If so, they should react to it since it's one of the best non-Godzilla kaiju movies that Toho made.
Mothra is a gurdian spirit that takes on the form of a moth. Whenever she takes physical form, she lays an egg. Whenever she is defeated, her spirit returns to the egg so she can rise again when the earth needs her. She never truly dies.😊
I love how both of them were like "aww little guy" at Suko at first and then were like "OH YOU LITTLE SHIT" afterwards and then back to "smol baby boy" after the rescue scene 😂😂😂
Godzilla killed scylla because she had betrayed him for the third time and was, i believe, getting thermal energy to heat up the ice caps Also, I love that shimo is not evil, but just a big ice pupper

I know the shot of them running together was in the trailer...but seeing it in IMAX and having a cheering audience was magical. Also I love Godzilla was speed running his evolution 😂😂
Just to give an idea of how big "Suko" the Mini Kong is. He is the same size as Kong was in Kong: Skull Island. Just goes to show how massive Kong grew in 50 years. Alex Wingard also confirmed the other day, that with Kong now taking over Scar King's people, he is now King Kong.
While I'm mostly a Godzilla fan I do love that the A story of this movie is basically about Kong finding his people and, in the end, becoming King Kong.
In case you were worried that some of the new physics-breaking features of this fictional world are out of left field: the old monster movies have done stuff like telepathy before. The new shit STILL isn't half as weird as the classics, lol.
Not at all! Love the fact that they’re having fun with it. I just wish the weight of these massive monsters was more apparent as it was in the first films of the franchise. Other than that they can go as bonkers as they want 😄
In case nobody has told you guys yet, but the opening of the movie wasn't the first time Scylla had attacked a human settlement. She did so about twice before years after she submitted to Godzilla, but she's also the least loyal to him. Dominion and The Hunted showed that she's been trying to power up and provoking Godzilla by attacking human cities to challenge and usurp him, with the previous times she tried having her being given a beatdown to back off. This time was her last as Godzilla just lost all patience with her and decided she was too much trouble to keep around. Godzilla has also fought Tiamat before when he claimed one of her lairs as his resting place after 'King of the Monsters', and like Scylla she's one of the more malevolent Titans. She's known for mimicking thr calls of anything to lure them to her lair and then kill them, with her nest in the Arctic supposedly having the skulls and bodies of her victims. It's implied Godzilla saw her as a nuisance when she was using the Sun's radiation energy to supercharge herself to one day usurp him too, so he just offed her before it happened. The Skar King's threat just so happened to hasten that idea lol
Here is why Godzilla evolved because when he got to to his blue supercharged state the blue Godzilla in one scene he was close to going to go on a nuclear meltdown which in Godzilla’s case explode and die so he went to the Arctic which in the monster verse the Arctic is the largest stockpile of energy with the bombardment of solar winds but that sea snake that you saw her name was Tiamat and Godzilla killed her to get to the place that she was sleeping at Godzilla evolved so he can store more power so he can’t go on a nuclear meltdown anymore he can store 20x more power so he cannot go on a nuclear meltdown.hope this helped you.
This is check-your-brain-out-at-the-door popcorn entertainment at its best. I love these movies because I don't have to think and I become totally immersed in the world and lore. 10/10
Took my 10 year old to the theater apprehensively as he has ADHD. He was glued to the screen and loved the movie. I enjoyed it was a good popcorn flick.
Just to give you guys more context on who's who: The orange ape with the whip around him is Skar King whereas the child ape is Suko (confirmed that Suko is the child of Skar). Then the giant titan all the other apes had trapped is Shimo (rumored in ancient times to have frozen Ghidorah explaining what doctor Andrew said as the ice age and it is speculated she is possibly bigger than Ghidorah as well). BEAST glove is also the real name for Kong's gauntlet Bio Enhanced, Anatomic, Seismic-Thunder. With the amount of radiation Godzilla absorbed in the artic he is now able to intake 20 times more radiation than normal after killing Tiamat and using the radiation absorbed from killing him which is why Godzilla specifically also turned pink. To get more context and understanding of the whole Monsterverse you can actually check out Goji Center where they cover everything in-depth that happens in trailers or movies!
Your the wonderful dynamic duo & are rocking these reactions, another brilliantly entertaining video 👍 Dan Stevens was brilliant glad he keeping the British end up 😂
My daughter and I saw this in the theaters a couple months ago. We both had a blast. We cheered and cried. It was great. This film was a surprise, honestly. I really wasn't expecting all that much but it exceeded all expectations by far. It definitely goes into the running for best film in the Monsterverse.
I loved this film. Great reaction you two as you two. I loved seeing Kong and Scar meeting you could tell...the difference between Kong's beliefs and Scar's. Kong seeing his people under a tyrant. Kong reaching his hand out to help one ape being abused and then punching the bully was so awesome. You knew immediately...these two were going to not go head to head. It reminded me so much of humans..some are bad and some are good.
F***! Did I just shed tears? The script, the acting, the cinematography, the shear fun and heart are enough reason to buy a little extra suspension of disbelief. This had the little taste of over-the-topness that Toho would approve of. Good times. Thanks for another great post work chillout.
This was so much fun! They really knew what tone they wanted and ran with it. As you mentioned this feels like one of the more wonky Godzilla classics, such a good time!
I swear, Kong is starting to remind me of the archetype of character that Arnold Schwarzenegger is known for playing. The characters that Arnie typical plays aren’t just incredibly strong but also cunning and intelligent. You think he’s just going to be a muscle bound gym bro but he ends being far more than that. I think it’s kinda cool. Kong specifically reminds me of Dutch from Predator. He’s strong and resilient enough that he can whip your ass in a straight up fight but he’s so versatile and resourceful that he can also quickly improvise weapons and traps in case he needs to. Kong is far more than just a savage ape and I love that.
I love one of the scenes where you can clearly see Godzilla telling one of the helicopter that is flying close to him to back of in an aggressive way. He is not in a mood for shots 😂😂😂😂😂
I think the reason why Kong is petting Shimo is because it's his way of saying don't worry you're safe now Thank you for your help Your free from him And from shimo's perspective I think she's pretty much saying Your welcome I'll always be by your side Thank you so much for freeing me But also because those chin rubs feel GOOD Shimo is my favorite original Titan of the monster verse I REALLY HOPE she appears in the 3rd movie
We really need a big big threat for the 3 team-up film. Something that’ll give Godzilla, Kong, Shimo and Mothra a run for their money. Here’s hoping for Space Godzilla!
@OfficialMediaKnights Adam wingard, the director, said in an interview that the 3rd movie will probably be Godzilla focused He's open to bringing in Godzilla JR A modern adaptation of Godzilla vs. Destroyah So if I had to guess Destroyah will be the villain, but I hope to see space Godzilla in a future monster verse movie
@@juliabonavita4731 You're right when you says Adam is thinking of Destroyah but you're wrong when you says that it'll be the very next villian because Adam Sir also mentioned that Destroyah will be the final villian for Monster verse in the end, we can expect Space Godzilla in next 😊

@@TheKyrix82 We saw in GvK that Kong would actually fight him again if necessary, I'm talking about the final scene where Kong drops the ax and Godzilla just walks away.
scar king cannot take on kong
@@jykxela5927 Yes he can. He was clearly holding his own before he called Shimo out to fight for him. Not saying he will win, but Scar King can clearly hold his own against Kong. I would say SK is capable of beating Kong but it is more likely that Kong would win maybe 7/10 times.

I mean we can obviously disagree but come on... its a medicore movie even as a fun summer flick.
The scene with Godzilla, mothra, Kong, and the little girl, all together, under the Egyptian sun, was my fav scene in the entire monsterverse so far.
Is my favorite too
mine is ghidora on the mountain with the cross in the foreground.
Seeing Mothra and Kong finally meet was so epic
Kongs facial expression when Godzilla was charging him in Egypt was easily the best explanation ever
“Hey man, wait, no no no no no” *slam!!*
That was the "Let me tell you something" moment 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Then Kong was like I'm sick of this shit
I love how funny it is seeing Kong putting his hands and arms forward in front of Godzilla and saying 'Whoa take it easy I didn’t come here to fight you'.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
He really tried to make it as obvious as possible he didn’t want to fight but Godzilla was not in the best of moods 😂
@@markfoshee4768 Godzilla was bout to put Kong to death again if it wasnt for Mothra Intervening
The Double Toasted review on this film really leaned into that topic.
Fun Facts from the Novel:
-Godzilla has a familial bond with Mothra, noted by Kong
-Shimo is called the “Hypothetical” or “Monster H” because her existence was a hypothetical. She also had a battle with Godzilla in the past, and seemingly won badly, which is why Godzilla needed to power up. Shimo also froze Ghidorah.
-Kong’s gauntlet is made from MechaGodzilla’s corpse
-Last fact: Godzilla sleeping in the colosseum was inspired by the directors’ cat sleeping 😭 but lore wise it is because Roman architecture reminds him of the home that was blown up in KoTM
@@romangunter621I think what you said last is the correct one. Shimo was causing the Ice Age, accidentally froze Ghidorah at the same time.
@@godlyaardvark7265 oh I see then, thank you for that! So, is she an active participant during Godzilla and Ghidorah's first duel?
Skar king is how a villain is supposed to be (which is rare with movies now)
Tiamat first appeared in the comic Godzilla Dominion, she fought Godzilla in the comic, Tiamat has Also appeared in the Godzilla vs Kong vs Justice League comic too.
@@dracodracarys2339 they took his character out of real kings back in history who actually ruled like that.
4:52 that's skylla you've seen her already she bowed to Godzilla at the end of kotm but obviously she's going on a rampage so Godzilla gotta kill her
Godzilla had to put her back in her place permanently 😂 Jeez! That was such a fantastic moment! All 3 of these amazing titans sharing the screen.
@@OfficialMediaKnightsI know right 😁👍🏿👍🏿🦖🦋🦍
The only reason the swapped out Kong for Godzilla is that Toho lost rights to Kong that's why Godzilla is charged by electricity and kinda flirts with Kumi Mizuno.
@@williambanks2223 yeah that's right thank you 👍🏿👍🏿
@@williambanks2223 Toho released a Kong movie after Ebirah Horror of the Deep called King Kong Escapes where Kong fights Mechani-Kong.
I loved that Mothra sealed the entrance to protect the natives from outsiders.

@@jaylenharris343 exactly
Fun fact: The design of Shimo was inspired by the Rhedosaurus from 1953's "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" which in turn inspired Godzilla.
Shimo had such a grandma look on her face in that moment, considering she is the oldest Titan 😂❤
So cool to see how they’re making sure the comics are canon, reference them in the movies and even concluding certain situations.

They fully committed to the over the top tone and just had fun with it. This was such a great time!

Saw in theaters and loved it, I like how they humanize kong. Didn't expect it to be mostly Kong, but it was fantastic to dive deeper into the lore.
After GvK I had a feeling they were gonna go in this direction but to be fair we felt this one was more balanced in terms of how much Godzilla we got. Such a great time!
me too
seeing in theaters and on tv was awesome
@@OfficialMediaKnights I don't know, Godzilla only had about 9 minutes and 30-40 seconds of screen time compared to Kong but then again I guess Godzilla is supposed to feel like a heavy presence/plot device than an actual character compared to Kong who's all Ape and because of that they go the more actual character route for him because its easy. But it kinda takes away the Monster aspect of this franchise when they start to humanize the monsters.
@@OfficialMediaKnightsThis one was not at all balanced. Godzilla was a featured guest in this movie
To be fair Godzilla got a lot of lore dump in 2014, King of the Monsters and the Monarch Legacy series. Kong just has one movie before GvK and that one also touched a lot on the lore that wasn't fully explored. So it makes sense for this movie to be more Kong-centric.
Suko is actually bigger than KSI Kong
The Monarch Legacy of Monsters is a must watch series set in the Monsterverse
While I'm mostly a Godzilla fan I do love that the A story of this movie is basically about Kong finding his people and, in the end, becoming King Kong.
Kong was like "ay bro watch your jet. Watch your jet bro WATCH YO JET-"
Finally Kong now has his protector girl Shimo just like Godzilla with Mothra.
Other than that they can go as bonkers as they want 😄
suko jumping at Kong's face was a total FNAF jumpscare
This movie gave us what we wanted - more monsters! And I also wanted more Dan Stevens and Brian Tyler Henry, great duo
Even the big G needs some extra storage space 😂
