You did a fantastic job on that mess of boiler!
Thank you so much I really appreciate the feedback and the support
Very thorough. Im not even in this trade, but I love learning from Mikey Pipe. Great synopsis at every stage. Learning made fun.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Very thorough job. I wish I could get you out to Minnesota to do mine.
Just had one like this last year. Wrong gas valve installed, and not set up even remotely close. Luckily they went for a replacement and I didn’t have to clean it. Nice job
Mikey Pipes I was taught to do it the same way! Thank you for sharing!
You bet!
nice job
Thank you! Cheers!
If every contractor worked to and above your standard WOW! Many happy customers 😊😊😊
Right?!
Just started plumbing school this November, any tips/advice and tips on tools ? Love the channel my instructor recommended it 👌
Great job Mike, The chimney or exhaust flue probably needs a cleaning too, Mikey's chimney sweep Co. Just kidding, but that was nice the guy in Pennsylvania, to send you a gift, and appreciation.
You got that right!
I replaced a Lennox oil furnace today with a Thermal pride 0H6 the chimney base was full, used my soot master vacuum to clean it out. I love that vacuum I’ve had it for years.
Awesome. Good job.
Part of every HVAC person’s training should be watching all your videos. So informative and professional!
Question: I would be tempted to cut off the loop on the end of the brush and connect it to a drill. I think it would make it easier and do a better job. Have you ever tried it?
Hummm. Now I never thought of attaching to a drill
I wish u would show the adj. u did to get o2 and co2 reading right. Great job, thanks
Ah, the secret adjustment technique? That's classified information! Just kidding, I'll make sure to include it in the next video. Stay tuned!
Awesome video. Small suggestion for nasty jobs, I got 50 ft of shop vac hose . I put the shop vacuum outside and just go in with a vacuum. Even if it a filter is hepa rated . It might not be totally sealed so the fine things that don't get trapped in the filter if it's outside it's not a problem.
Great tip!
@@PipeDoctor For sure, I was wondering how effective the filter on your vacuum might be when it comes to the media you were sucking up. Good thing you were wearing a mask too, after hearing about how small the particulate is from forest fires you may even consider getting a better mask for jobs like these. Stay safe man
I thought the letter was going to say
Dear Mikey,
this is the tool I used to remove the Bosch boiler you installed when I sold it on eBay
-Keith
So I guess I was wrong
**relax all. Just a joke
😂
I need heat and AC LOL. I'll take that over money bc i can sit at home and be climatized. Personal comfort over values money any day. Thats why im blown away that people bitch about trip charges, etc. Your comfort is everything. Take it from someone with autism even though i know this is a BS bot comment.

that's a nice old stillson he sent you 😁 I have some here my grandfather and elders had long ago. should probably hang them on the instead of leaving them lay on a shelf buried under other tools and materials. but being buried there, nobody will mess with them(lol)
yea it was in good shape. I have other weird tools like s wrenches and other things my pap had in the 50's.
Bro, I’m sick! 4 flame rollout switches, 2 chimney cleanings (didn’t even know I had 2 chimneys!) and a thorough (outside) cleaning of my Crown natural gas steam boiler and STILL tripping the switch. I’m up worrying about more cold days for my twin little boys and finally stumble upon what it most likely is. When I hit the floor pan with the air hose, black carbon came backing out of the (exhaust shoot?) and I didn’t know enough to put 2 and 2 together. Can you recommend someone in north/central jersey? Any help is MUCH appreciated. Great channel man!
Mikey pipes!!, big fan of the videos I have a question for you have you ever had a situation like this one and found the problem not fixed after the cleaning. Maybe a problem with back draft due to a big restriction in the flue clogged up or something to do with make up air in basement
Yes I have. You’d need to address draft at that point. Rare but usually gets resolved by sucking out all the crap at the base of the chimney.
Thx. That's bad for gas but would be clean for oil. :)
Was about to say looks like every oil boiler out there
🤣
mikey you are in your NASA suit lol
lol
I would of thought wet methods to clean would have been a “safer” approach since it keeps the dust down, sort of the same way they teach for asbestos abatement, but if your saying dry technique is better for these purposes I gotta trust you since I’m not in the plumbing field ..… thanks for the educational video ! Appreciate all you do
Thanks for sharing but it’s the opposite. Makes a complete mess.
Im in Pittsburgh asbestos, and majority of the abatement companies will dry removed because of the same reason, it makes a complete disaster/mess, use an airless to keep the air clean and keep the fibers down during the process, fireproofing and plaster, but piping i usually always wets down
Hey Mikey, of Mikey Pipes Plumbing not easy being cheesy. I like your podcast/social media. Carbonized boiler? Hmm, I'm no draft King, but more outdoor mechanical air/make up air the better. The boiler trying to breathe, the hwh trying to breathe, the clothes dryer trying to breathe, the stove and wall oven trying to breathe, something going to loose, like the gas fired boiler. What am I smoking again? the book of st matthew from a thru z.. Love you buddy, jolly good show old boy , God save the King.
God save the King
How do you adjust the corbon monoxide level?
@pipedoctor can you use steel furnace brushes? For example Mill-rose 1/2” boiler brush sku: 84007. I have a cast iron gas burnham boiler.
I like the nylon brushes
Ok, thank you. Do you have a brand, sku/model number on the nylon ones?
I found the nylon brushes online.
Nice, Hey Mikey, where did you get those brushes from? My local johnstone sucks they have like one size lol.
These we got from FW Webb. You can also try Sid Harvey’s
@@PipeDoctor thanks!
Well she was bad but she wasn’t good either.. lol you know your going to be their for the day when you fight to get the smallest. Brush through… But that Sir was an excellent example of a well cleaned out boiler ❤ super great job !! An water washing? I have seen the results after a the unit a floor looks like shit!!! A excellent example of a proper cleaning !!!
Thanks Kat
I don't have a sight glass on mine. 1963 unit in Ohio. Cleaned it last year. Was not this bad tho
Sight glass. Face to face plus 3/8".
Smart
Put brush in drill. Slow setting
Next
Time
on my boiler, those little nubs on the cast iron sections towards the bottom are gone. theres little nubs where the nubs used to be. to high of gas pressure? not carbonized, pretty clean.
also, can you put new furnace cement on old stuff or do you have to clean off the old first?
thanks in advance.
That’s crazy. Where did they go? How old
Is the boiler?
probably contaminants in the air, short cycling and too many cold starts/condensation erosion.
it's also possible the design has them tapering to nothing at the very base for better flame/gas flow, maybe lookup the model and size of it and look for pictures.
😉
are you turning Italian @ Mikey? all that talking with your hands 🤣🤣
Haha, maybe I have some Italian roots I never knew about! But really, I just can't resist using my hands to emphasize my points. It makes me feel like I'm having a conversation with all of you!
do you come to Astoria?
If you pay travel
Hey Peter, of Mikey Pipes Plumbing. Here lays the body of Mary Lee, she die at the age of 103. For 29 years she kept her virginity, not a bad record for this here facilities. lol. Love you buddy, you be safe out there.
Great movie
Guess I need to watch the movie again.
Nice job Mikey 👍👍
New brushes for each job?
And a reminder to all: Asbestos killed my wife 10 years ago. Nothing to joke about. Take it seriously always. Leave it to the pros…
No but I didn’t have any for my new cargo van. Sorry for your loss.
I have a pair of asbestos gloves. They are MSE (Mine Safety Equpt) brand. @@PipeDoctor

Haha
Speaking of gold. If someone was to pay for your HVAC or plumbing services with real gold and silver. Would u take that as payment?
Yes.
Money is money regardless of form… and everyone needs precious metals
Maybe and unlikely carbed up from the pilot like u said I disagree had a previous tech clean out a boiler not even a month later plugged back up pilot was really high
We shall see. Have a tuneup next month. We shall see.
Cut that handle off your brush and put it in your drill.. easy peasy
Great idea

👋
If I may ask, what was the gas pressure on the old valve vs the new?
Old one was 4.1”
New one is exactly 3.75”
@PipeDoctor
Thanks.
Old one wouldn't lower.
I have run across new carrier furnace out of the box- 2 stage that wouldn't change.
I try to keep around 1.5 and 3.2- higher the gas pressure higher co
The world's largest crack pipe - a boiler sight glass. Safe trip man.
Damn
Boulder toaster 5000@@PipeDoctor
lmao! 🤣🤣 for when you really need a rock, use a boiler sight glass!
I'm dying over here 🥳🤪
im glad you got a kick out of it lol. @@throttlebottle5906
Mikey, please excuse my ignorance but I thought gas was clean burning. What was the problem here; shutter adjustment, gas pressure?
Gas pressure.
The way you clean that gas boiler is it almost exactly the way you clean an oil boiler
Yup 👍
That was a dirty one.
👍
Replace the boiler
That was our first recommendation
Oil boilers are so much funner to clean. Aren’t they so much more soot and carbon and sulfur lot more than a gas boiler
Yeah?
Used to do this work a lot in the 90s hated it so much. after opening my company I completely stopped doing it. I know that it good money but still not for me
Yeah it sucks scrubbing a carbonized boiler
Love love love. Would love to fly up. and id work for you for a week to pay my dues. You cant have the biggest MPP client not at the grand opening. And the biggest personality. You and I, we would kill it. And be careful around that shit. My pap died of stage 4 non small cell which is what this shit does. He did 20 years in the nuclear plant. They used it for shielding along with lead.
You driving to the grand opening?
Im taking your Learjet. The pilot just called.
@@Keith_Mikell Gulfstream
My bad. he said i should have access in my email soon. @@PipeDoctor
@@PipeDoctor we can do all your tech shit in the new place. That’s another benefit. You can use me bc you’re sending the gulf.
Why so dirty because steam unit or just flame roll out
Bad combustion
Jeez that thing was dirty like am oil burner. Mustve ran like crap since day one
I can see that you never worked on oil fired equipment and by the way that pipe wrench is called a Stilson wrench.
I’ve worked on oil only a handful times
Where is Peter?
Answered during video
@@PipeDoctor yeah I typed that before you answered at the end.
Using water are they crazy? What a mess
Yes. They are crazy
😂
👋
Looks like a oil burner !
Mikey pipes, I have to be honest you annoyed the hell out of me .
Well, at least I'm not boring you, right?
Biden tell you to wear a mask? Lol
Cleaning a hx is political?
What does Biden have to do with cleaning a cast iron boiler?
@@PipeDoctorhe cleaned 3 of em after visiting ground zero 😂😂😂
even I wouldn't fix that old burnt turd of a boiler. they'd either replace it on payments, have no heat or call someone else to rig it. 🤢🤮
Haha! I wouldn't touch that burnt turd either. Time for a new heating system, maybe?
