~Tapping into Your Potential Where Others Saw None~
Anything he sang became his song. Nobody did them like he did.
Johnny possessed more gravitas in his later years than any other recording artist ever.
The best ever. All hail the Man in Black.
I cry every time I hear this song.
The chorus, without the verses - was a “happy” tune I remember from childhood. Here it’s depression-era depressing 🤪 if you haven’t done “Hurt” (also produced by Rick Rubin)
please do! He always sounded like Moses coming down the mountain to me; even when he was young.
My Grandma sang this song to me from my birth until her passing.
I’m sorry fam
My mom and I have had a shitty relationship because of her addictions, but the most fulfilling thought that ever crosses my mind, is hearing her voice sing this song to me every night when I was little, chokes me up a little bit… glad you’re clean now mom❤️ I love you
Same here, I’ve never gotten close with my mom tho.
This is an ancient mountain folk song. I used to sing my daughter to sleep with it when she was little, but Mr Cash had a way of making every song his own, and injecting a healthy dose of melancholy, especially near the end of his life. Johnny Cash was his own genre. I'd like to recommend a song for you: "Men With Broken Hearts" By Hank Williams (Luke the Drifter), if you haven't already done that one. I think you'd like it.
This is one of those songs that has been done by dozens of people over the years. I love these old raw, unedited recordings. They’re awesome. Still hoping you will check out Linda Ronstadt. One of her first TV performances was on the Johnny Cash variety show. She also accompanied him when he went to perform for inmates at Tennessee State Prison in the 1970’s. ua-cam.com/video/LKHN_f7ly2I/v-deo.html. This is a link to one of the songs she did there. Great choice, Van🌺✌️
Honestly Cash has so many good songs for you to discover I wouldn't know where to start. Pretty much everything on all his American Recordings is absolutely amazing. A lot of his earlier work is great as well. Cash is honestly one of those artists with a voice that he could sing the worst song in the world and still make you feel a certain way. Legend.
Johnny was SOOOO madly in love with his wife June (and vise versa) all their life together- until and beyond the day past she died and then he died, it was SO obvious and a love story for the books for sure. A real life Romeo & Juliet.
I always think about my daughter when I hear this song...
According to Wikipedia, this song was originally written by Oliver Hood in the early-1930s, but he never recorded it, nor published it. His wife was in the hospital, and he needed the money, so he sold the song to Country singer Jimmie Davis, and music publisher Charles Mitchell, for $35 in 1940. The song had previously been recorded in 1939 by two Country bands in 1939; The Pine Ridge Boys ,and The Rice Brothers Gang.
Jimmie Davis recorded "You Are My Sunshine" in 1940, and it was a big hit for him.
My dad used to sing the chorus to us as kids.
Oh my gosh, I’m not sure if I’ve heard this version or just heard the main chorus of this song. This song warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes. My grandma used to call my oldest aunt, her “Big Sunshine”. When my daughter was younger, I’d say maybe 9 or 10 ish, years old, she heard my grandma say “I’m so excited because my Sunshine is coming home to visit.” My aunts lives in Texas and we lived in Florida. My daughter got so jealous “Oh she’s your sunshine? What about me? Am I not your sunshine?” My grandma got a kick out of my daughter getting jealous of my aunt, she was quick to say “Well, your Aunt is my Big Sunshine and you are my Little Sunshine.” And my grandma would get my daughter birthday cards that referred to this song. My Aunt now calls my daughter “Little Sunshine”. So this song reminds me so much of my grandma, and now my aunt and daughter have this special connection through this song too. 💕❤️ I’m literally crying because I miss my grandma just thinking of this. Thank you for bringing this song to me. It’s been a while since I heard at least the main chorus. 💕
My mom used to sing me this song when I was little.
My daddy used to sing this to me when I was a little one. Miss you daddy 💔
my mum use to sing this to me when i was a kid❤️
How about "God's Gonna Cut You Down" Thank you!
My parents were friends with the man who wrote this song, Jimmie Davis. They would go on annual fishing trips with him in Louisiana. He did stay with us for a few days when I was a little kid. I didn't know who he was at the time, so I just thought he was a nice enough older man. I remember it mostly because he brought us some alligator meat and snake meat. I tried the alligator but not the snake. That's when I learned the saying "tastes like chicken." Alligator meat tasted like chicken to me.
I love Johnny Cash. He has a huge number of amazing songs. You should listen to "Hurt" by him. It was originally done by Nine Inch Nails. After Johnny covered it, the original writer, Trent Reznor, said that it was now Johnny's song.
You should listen to "Sam Hall". As someone with the name Hall in the family it may give you a laugh. My cousin Charles Hall showed me the song lol.
He has an 2 cd album called Personal File. His 92nd album. Contains unreleased material and commentary. Stuff he wanted to record before he died. Wife sang this to the kids all the time
I sang this song to both of my kids and my granddaughters name is Araya Sunshine.#Cash
Another version you should here is from the movie oh brother where art thou? By Norman Blake! It really convey the sense of sadness this song portrays!
That was recorded somewhere within the last 10 years of his life So somewhere within the last roughly 15 years
🥺yea ☝️ definitely felt that last night I'm nit playing and never was playing when it came to lives
love it 💫
I like that in your links it shows you watched "hurt" nice choice
My mommy always sang this to me. I always sang it to mine too. The good verses, only
My “mama” used to sing this song to me too. Usually as a song to relax me to go to sleep in the warm Southern afternoons of Louisiana. 1960’s, ceiling fan above, screen window open beside my bed.
Another good JC tune is field of stone. It was originally done by David Allen Coe, but great version. Diamonds in the sky is a JC original written I believe to June Carter Cash.
His song was sung
You're not wrong. My mom used to belt this one out when I was a lazy ass kid and she wanted me to wake up. She was no Johnny Cash, and she had a singing voice like a foghorn. But damn that takes me back
So when the funeral director asked if there were any songs you think of when you think of your mom, "You are my Sunshine" was at the top of the list.
If you want to know what happens when your only sunshine goes away, listen to Bill Withers - "Ain't No Sunshine".
Cant believe you have never heard this song when you were a kid.
You gotta listen to Johnny Cash - Man In Black Live
Only johnny can make a happy sounding song depressing
And you sir t-shirt 🤟ok bye 👋 😘
It never about lust it was always about the purple crys
lol
Y u up so early fam
No no no you need to see The Civil Wars do this
This was a year before he died. His wife must have just died
