I was born with deafness and tinnitus, my Grandmother Fannie used to sing this song and hold my head against her chest to feel the vibration of her voice. My deafness was corrected with surgery. What I learned about my Grandmother was her first husband died in a mining accident when she was 19 and left widowed with an infant. I honestly believed she sang this song about him. I can hardly fight back the tears when I hear this song and think of her.

My mom sang this to my little brother and me when we were little. During her last week on this earth after a rapid decline following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, I found this version and played it for her. She was unresponsive, but I believe she heard it. She died on the 9th of this month, so only 8 days ago, surrounded by my dad, my little brother, her little sister, and me.

I was born with deafness and tinnitus, my Grandmother Fannie used to sing this song and hold my head against her chest to feel the vibration of her voice. My deafness was corrected with surgery. What I learned about my Grandmother was her first husband died in a mining accident when she was 19 and left widowed with an infant. I honestly believed she sang this song about him. I can hardly fight back the tears when I hear this song and think of her.

She was born almost all the way blind and she couldnt hear very well. She was also a special needs baby and couldnt eat properly so she had to have a feeding tube. She was the cutest thing ever. I’m so sorry for your loss. I sing this song to my dog too. He is a Pomeranian turning seven in December.
