I had been trying to get the right kit for my 2004 F150, I had Advanced Auto special order me the "right size" when i picked it up i spent an hour trying to get it in, I don't have a lift and was on my back in the muddy driveway trying and trying. I returned the part to get the other one they recommended and it STILL wouldn't fit, I was defeated and loss any desire to continue trying, I couldn't even find the right size online for the specific year. I went on a whim and took back the 2nd set and got the one you recommended and BAM it snapped right in!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Literally a 1 minute fix! You sir, are the man and my hero!!!!

For the ones who trying to find out how to push it on... I used a deepwell 13mm socket with a extension (no ratchet) and it fit perfectly at the edges of the bushing and then i just applied pressure and pushed it in.
I got for $8, it fit the 05 Lincoln Aviator and matched up just right. Two thumbs up to you buddy. It's the Doreman HELP! 14041 at auto zone. The second from the smallest fit perfectly when I heard that click, I giggled.

At the time I did this video; I had nothing to hold the camera and needed both hand to do the repair. Furthermore; this has to be absolutely the easiest repair you could possibly do on a vehicle. If you need more information than what I've given in this video or you need to actually see it being done to understand how to do it then you should NOT work on vehicles or attempt this yourself and have someone else do it................but that's just my opinion!
@@joeyfix-it1916 if you didn't have any way to hold the camera while you tried to film yourself doing a "simple repair" on YOUR OWN UA-cam Repair channel, then you shouldn't be doing UA-cam repair videos..........dick.........but that's just my opinion.
Better make sure the ebrake is on as well. Was underneath my FX4 snapping the plastic piece in and engaged the gears and if it wasn’t for my pops jumping in and mashing the brakes it would have ran clean over me. Scared the living shit out of me. Don’t make the same mistake I did and I wasn’t on a hill either
i just had this happen yesterday with my blazer because the ebrake doesnt work, nobody to hop in it i just got lucky and got out of the way just in time. i had a block under a tire as well shit went right over it, dont think ive ever been that scared in my life
And in the last 50 seconds of the video I mention about safety and jack stands, ramps and Jack safety but I guess I forgot to mention about wheel chocks and the ebrake also a good idea to have someone else they're just in case.......... The bushing on my linkage cable would not pop in. We used grease and a lot of muscle and it didn't do it. I ordered mine online from O'Reilly's. Not sure what the deal is.

Unfortunately that's easier said than done when you're laying on your back under a vehicle trying to hold a camera and record. It requires two hands to get the job done; one to hold the pliers and one to hold the parts that you are trying to assemble. I thought I explained the procedure pretty well on my video and all of the positive comments that I have received would appear to agree. Obviously ; we are all different and we all have different skills and different levels of experience. It sounds like you're not confident in your comprehension of my explanation on how to do the repair. If that's the case I would suggest seeking a professional or at the very least someone that is capable of assisting you in completing this task.
Not sure about yours. this video is specific to my vehicle and some information in the video MAY pertain to your vehicle. I just used pliers to squeeze the plastic bushing into the ball cup then onto the shift linkage ball stud. I also added some lithium grease.prior to installation.
Sorry I'm a handyman and not a mechanic by trade and I've never even heard of that car so unfortunately I can't help you on that. What I would say is to watch my video closely all the way through then look at your linkage and see if it looks similar as far as ball joint and cup configuration maybe even measure it. The repair kit is cheap and might be worth a try if it looks similar. Also I have never heard of "bushingfix".
Hey Joey. Any idea why my key fob is stuck in the ignition? It turns over and off just fine but won’t go all the way over to acc and let me take key fob out.
Well depending on the vehicle there is a possibility that there is an interlink between the ignition and the shifter. the shifter must be fully engaged in to park before the key can come out of the ignition. also try to jiggle the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key in the off position.
I love it when a video starts with the commentary "here is a video". I like having verification that I am watching a video, because often times I forget.
Hey, I have a 2005 Pontiac G6 with over 200k in miles and the bushing keeps wearing out. Like every 6-8 momths. The kit doesn't cost a lot but I'm wondering if it could be a bigger issue or if it's just general wear and tear? Any input?
That seems like excessive wear to me. I would try to put some type of lubricant in there maybe a grease of some sort. If your transmission is hard to shift into gears you could have a bigger issue possibly within the transmission. The next time you have to replace them I would leave the one disconnected off the transmission and go through the gears on the shifter and see that it and the cable are operating smoothly without any drag from the transmission. Definitely going to need some process of elimination here....
I did this repair on my 2010 Chevy Tahoe about 3 weeks ago, but last night my shift cable slipped off again. Any tips on how to make sure this doesn't happen again?
I'm not sure why yours failed unless you either used the wrong size bushing or the bushing broke again. Hard for me to say without being there to see it and check it myself........ I would just say try again until you succeed.
Smallest one works great on 2013 suburban I decided to add safety wire also called mechanics wire .041 tightly around the shifter lever and the shifter cable because pushing kept breaking
I did it by just trying them. If your trying the wrong one then it won't fit. Try it in the ball cup first. If it doesn't fit then it's too big; If it falls out then it's too small! ( And watch my video all the way through so you don't miss anything.) (Also like and subscribe so I can get inspired to make more helpful videos). Thanks.
You said you just used a pair of pliers the instructions say to use a C clamp and a 916 socket I've been having a hell of a time it. I may need to just get out the old pliers and give her a squeeze. Cause this is bull crap.
Yeah, good luck getting a c-clamp up in there to do that. Pliers are way easier and that's why I used them. I did say in the video step-by-step what I did and how it works for me so I would assume you should be able to achieve the same result. I ended up having to do the same thing on the other end of the cable underneath the shifter in the center console. I believe I did a video on that as well and if I did I will try to edit and post it soon.
are the plastic bushing easier to install than the rubber bushing & is there a special tool to snap the rubber bushing into place ?? i have a chev p30 1985 can't find any info on how to install for this model
nick diaz I'm not sure about the rubber bushing but on the plastic one I just use channel lock pliers to squeeze it into the ball cup then squeeze that assembly on to the ball stud

This is my problem. The old one will not stay on the transmission linkage but is still on the end of the cable. My first task to solve is how to get the old one out. This video did not show that so not much help here.

No matter what, it's going to be hard to deal with because there is not much slack in the cable and the catalytic converter is right next to it, being in the way. I may have to disconnect the cable from the last mount to let it come down enough to get to it........to work on it. It's going to be a pain, and I was just wanting to see someone take one out.
@@igoski1582 fortunately for me the insert was totally gone I guess it disintegrated or dry rotted and fell apart so all I had to do was pop in a new insert and pop it onto the ball end........
@@joeyfix-it1916 It seems, most just fall out, creating their problem, so almost no one is showing taking one out. I did find one guy taking one out.........but he was doing it on his WORK BENCH. And he still struggled for several minutes with it. After seeing that, I know getting the old one out is not going to be quick and easy. Thanks for your effort and video to help.

How do we drive it up a ramp if our transmission linkage cable is disconnected?...Hmm I'll tell my cousin to get it out of park with his hand.

But how do u know which one to use?

Just did this yesterday on my 04' FX4 $14 for 2 kits, did both ends of the cable with those bushings

Use a pick and pry it out of the socket.
