Great video. Team JGC! One of the videos you can watch over and over again admiring the exploits of the WK2. Aside for the Quadra trac, the approach and departure angles were superior here.
This video is a testament to the capabilities of the Jeep Grand Cherokee! I purchased a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland not too long ago and LOVE it. It hasn't disappointed me one bit. I actually think its look is better than the newer models. The larger grill and headlights give it a bolder, more rugged look. The rear taillight's design flow into the center chrome accent, making it look like an SUV rather than a minivan. Great video. Thanks for sharing!
I use to drive my mother's 2013 Grand Cherokee back when I first got my license.. Being in Canada it was tremendously amazing during winter, super comfortable rallying dirt roads at high speeds lol, and never left me stranded once
All that brand hate. So much wasted energy. Lovely video and very nice driving. Both models seem to be in very capable hands, and it goes to show with the right driver it really doesn't need massive lifts, aggressive tires and a heavy right foot to cover trails like this.
Coming from someone who uses a 2011 Grand Cherokee for offloading one of the biggest factors is having the right tires to get the job done. I personally use sub-terrain tires because it gives a combination of a highway tire and a off road tire. For optimal performance using a All-Terrain tire is the obvious best option.
Aussie Four Wheelers (Hemi4WD) Does this Jeep have the electronic rear locker or is it all done with traction control? Is it Quadra Lift or steel springs? Impressive stuff. Good job.
@@edsil5754 you must be one of the only few lucky ones mate we bought a brand new JK Jeep Wrangler diesel Auto 4 door in 2010 was the biggest Shitbox i of ever owned
I own a 2019 grand cherokee .. but really love the style and the old school tec on the nissan. That car is actually very capable. Great vid and amazing trail guys 👍
Hi Ken, just as Nicholas said, his is the WK2 and I still have my HEMI WK, I love it to much, can't think of selling it yet. Yeah, that's my Patrol that I use for work, it's stock with a factory rear locker.
Yeah, you're right about the WK2's. They have pretty good clearance with the independent suspension compared to my WH/WK model but I don't know how high they could be lifted or what would be the biggest tyre size to put on. In regards to the Land Cruiser and Patrol, LOL, I better not comment, all war will break loose, HAHA, if you know what I mean :D.
I am impressed with how much control the Jeep maintained. It was thinking how to best climb in every situation, putting the power exactly where it wanted it and the air suspension leveled it out perfectly. The ironic thing is that the Cherokee is really a crossover always has been.
Jeep's fully armoured underneath, plus he's got the rock crushers on the sides, made out of RHS 150x50x5mm. I just did the same on the Patrol but went with a bit lighter 150x50x4mm and tested it (see the 4x4 Mayhem Teaser @ Wheeny Creek video) and not a dent, let alone a bend. Just scratches, which are easily fixed with a spray can LOL. So yeah, the Jeep does very well. The intention is to make it remain looking stock... a sleeper.
Interesting comparison, but the GC comes in on a disadvantage being that it's only got independent suspension. That being said, and considering its a laredo v6 I'd say it did extremely well. (Not to mention tires) All of you guys who are commenting on which one is better as a brand should compare a solid axle jeep to a solid axle competitor. The vid would have been much different if the jeep was a wrangler, with open diffs of course, to be fair. Put the Patrol up against a jk rubicon unlimited with 2 inches of lift and forget it. Then the reliability debate starts lol. Anyway, that's my .02 Good vid though Aussie, keep it up and cheers from the great white north!
People get so butthurt over brands. I prefer Nissans from a mechanic and reliability point of view but I'm not going to shit on Jeep enthusiasts. The rubicon is probably the best Offroader out of the factory bar none.
To be honest I think people put to much stock in Solid axles and articulatation for off roading. They are more important when you have limited slip or open differentials that can't stop the one wheel from spinning, but when you have lockers or brake traction control that can lock the wheel in the air and send pretty much 100% of the torque to the wheel with traction, wheel articulation is a lot less important. Plus with independent suspension you can get better ground clearance.
Why is everyone so impressed with the Jeep? It's designed to do this! In any case, as far as I am concerned, if they both finished the trip without breaking, they both win. They may do it different ways, but they get the job done. But I's still rather have the Jeep and do it in luxurious comfort and style..
I've been in both on the highway all day (1991 patrol instead of a 98+ but the point stands still) and id rather be in the patrol cause I have far more faith in it getting me home without having to work out, why all of a sudden the computer won't let me have 4wd, the lights in the sun visors are trying to catch fire, the abs module has stopped working and I have no brakes at all, why the check engine light is on (on ours turned out to be a cracked head from poor material quality) plus the seats weren't even very comfortable after the patrol
Its June 2018, just bought a GC 3.0CRD, Laredo, 4x4. I have been looking for a video of it driven off road, and finally i found this. I am truly surprised how well the jeep did. I had no idea it was this capable, given it has the on road ride of a Mercedes ML. Can see it needs the wheels to spin, before it uses the brakes to send power to the other wheels, given it does not have any locking diffs. The trailhawk has the locking diffs, and so did the patrol in this video. Great to finnally see what i wanted to know !!!
Aussie Four Wheelers mine is pulling to the left. Need a solution. Love the GC and have done the usual dealer alignment and wheel rotation but not Joy. Any experts in Sydney ?
Aussie Four Wheelers no lift or any mods. Only done 2000kms. Dealer aligned it, have the spec. Said it’s as good as they get. It’s got standard wheels n tyres.
Awesome trail and amazing driving skills! Thanks for sharing it. I'm so surprised a V6 QC "mom-mobile" is this off-road capable - just helped me decide to buy a used 2011 for my winter ski trips in Michigan.
That one in the video is my mate's and I was surprised how well it performed. He also said he gets very good fuel economy. Personally, I love V8's so a HEMI would do fine for me, just love the sound. But if you want real good economy without losing much power, CRD is the way to go then, amazing torque, excellent 0-100 times for an SUV and good low down torque for wheeling.
The Patrol made that look a lot easier than the Jeep, it had better suspension travel and more clearance. The traction control on the jeep was the only thing that got that through, and then it was putting massive strain on the half shafts. I think the patrol will still be running well in another 15 years whereas the Jeep I think will have died.
That I'm unaware of as I'm from the States. But google or a quick call to your local dealer will likely answer that question for you. It indicates that those prices are what you pay out the door, so I can't imagine there's a lot of extra you'd have to pay apart from registration fees (not sure how all that works in AUS, so I'm making assumption for that bit.)
Cool video. Both vehicles look good. My 2011 GC has seen more sand than rock, but has always performed well. I need the underbody protection next though
that's a jolly good job guys! both cars are great. I had a discovery 300tdi -rubbish. Now I drive grand cherokee wh with quadra drive ii and it s a perfect car. I love it.
Everyones going on and on about having the Jeep rather than the Nissan but the fact is, that Nissan is from 1998 and why didnt they just compare the Jeep to the Y62 Patrol because the Patrol used here is so much older. The thing is, despite the age, the Patrol can still go anywhere. I actually have a Y62, and I really hope that the Y62 and the Jeep are compared.
Nissan upgraded the Patrol from 4.5 litres to a 4.8 but the difference in power is significant as there is more to it than the slight increase in size. It is an absolute beast. I have driven a number of 4x4s and this is truly powerful and the auto box mates beautifully. Its reliability far outweighs most 4x4s except for Toyota who also produce long lasting vehicles. I went out and bought one and have done sand, mud and high mountain rock passes as well as other overlanding trips in Africa. It has been so impressive that my business partner also bought one. The first one is a 2004 and the second a 2006. Its offroad ability is enhanced by the powerful engine and amazing autobox. The suspension makes 4x4ing easy keeping all the takkies on the ground and giving fantastic suspension travel. That said I have found that Jeep Wranglers and the Cherokees are formidable offroad performers they have just proved unreliable over time and with age which is not ideal in an African desert or on snow capped Peruvian mountain passes both of which I have had the pleasure of driving. Great vids guys and great driving and I won't mention the safety stuff cos it's been said a lot anyway.
I saw you answer the GC has a 2" lift. I didn't see a response to the GC have the QuadraLift. Looking at it, it doesn't appear to have both a 2" lift and the quadralift engaged. Good video, I just got a 2014 GC Overland with quadralift. Amazing vehicle. Haven't done anything serious off road yet.
Not that easy! It wasn't just this trip. The owner of the Grand really gives it hard time and it's been on plenty of trips. All fixed now and ready for more adventures.
Wonder if my toyota prado can tackle those tracks. Great video love both cars.... but if I have to choose which one performs better... I go with the patrol... jeep struggle at times due to lack of wheel travel.... but performs well otherwise
I hope I don't offend anyone with my comment but out of my personal experience with the Nissan Patrol I think it needed a stronger engine it was one sluggish big truck with an underpowered engine, I used to own a 99 Super Safari Patrol with a 4.5 I6 and an auto trans. I felt like I needed a calender to time my 0-60, it didn't perform very well on big sand dunes it had a very good suspension though, all it needed was a bigger pumping heart, maybe because mine was an auto IDK..
Yeah right! My 2005 Jeep HEMI never had an issue. I don't know where people get these ideas from, you surely haven't owned one and I'm on my second Jeep. Surely the first one would've turned me off buying the second one if that was the case.
Nah, you're not offending anyone here. You're very right about the I6 4.5L engine. It is a bit sluggish and underpowered for this size of a vehicle. I wish it had a HEMI in it.
@@AussieFourWheelers for sure, and let's be honest the average owner won't be testing their vehicles more than the shopping malls. Very capable indeed.
Great video. and great review guys,, but let's not forget, the patrol is bout 2 times heavier than the Jeep... it needs more power to carry it's weight... yet, it does it with loadz of strength,,, one cannot compare these two vehicles,,, the jeep is a baby.. and the Cherokee is recognized cos it just has the brand name 'jeep' attached to it's name.
Umm... your facts are incorrect! WEIGHT: Grand: 1933 kg (4261 lbs) Patrol: 2473 kg (5452 lbs) That's not 2x heavier, that's 540 kg, but yes, it means a lot. POWER: Grand: 3.6L V6 - 216 kW 353 Nm (290 hp 260 lb-ft) Patrol: 4.5L I6 - 147 kW 348 Nm (197 hp 257 lb-ft) Even in power, the Patrol is weaker but with a bigger motor and obviously higher fuel consumption. The Grand has much more power and much better power-to-weight ratio. Although I love the Patrol, wish they had better and more efficient engines though, especially being half a ton heavier.
Nice video with two great trucks. If the Jeep had air ride, he really should have raised it up. Looked like the normal ride height. But that makes the drivers skill even that more impressive.

Wonder if my toyota prado can tackle those tracks. Great video love both cars.... but if I have to choose which one performs better... I go with the patrol... jeep struggle at times due to lack of wheel travel.... but performs well otherwise
Great driving, great video!
Thanks 👍 Glad you liked it.
Great skills from both drivers, Jeep surprised me.
Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, you wouldn't think that a modern, streamlined vehicle like the GC could do all that.
@@AussieFourWheelers for sure, and let's be honest the average owner won't be testing their vehicles more than the shopping malls. Very capable indeed.
100%
Great video. and great review guys,, but let's not forget, the patrol is bout 2 times heavier than the Jeep... it needs more power to carry it's weight... yet, it does it with loadz of strength,,, one cannot compare these two vehicles,,, the jeep is a baby.. and the Cherokee is recognized cos it just has the brand name 'jeep' attached to it's name.
Umm... your facts are incorrect!
WEIGHT:
Grand: 1933 kg (4261 lbs)
Patrol: 2473 kg (5452 lbs)
That's not 2x heavier, that's 540 kg, but yes, it means a lot.
POWER:
Grand: 3.6L V6 - 216 kW 353 Nm (290 hp 260 lb-ft)
Patrol: 4.5L I6 - 147 kW 348 Nm (197 hp 257 lb-ft)
Even in power, the Patrol is weaker but with a bigger motor and obviously higher fuel consumption. The Grand has much more power and much better power-to-weight ratio. Although I love the Patrol, wish they had better and more efficient engines though, especially being half a ton heavier.
thanks for the correction.....
Tenu Nkansa No problem dude, I appreciate your understanding. Take care.
both car are good in my opinion
Don Vito Corleone I agree
NIKHIL MAHARAJ 392 Both
Nice video with two great trucks. If the Jeep had air ride, he really should have raised it up. Looked like the normal ride height. But that makes the drivers skill even that more impressive.
Thanks, glad you liked it. Both have 2 inches of lift.
Great video mate. The vehicles are close to comparison. I would like to know Solid axle to solid axle JK Rubi vs Nissan Patrol !
Jeep looks so poised and compliant. It never looks out of shape. It just walks it.
Thanks mate.
jeep is the most strongest car ever no car can chalange it. . . .
Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6 is a beast off roading I have one myself
does the grand cherokee have the quadra lift?
No.
