As a resident of LA, I'm looking forward to the completion of these projects. Though, to be clear, ALL these transit projects were not planned or constructed for the Olympics. Most had been planned before LA bid for the games, and remember that LA actually bid for the 2024 games, not the 2028 games. However, once they got the 2028 games, they put certain projects on a faster track to try and get them done sooner. Another major transit project you didn't include is the Sepulveda Pass line that will connect the SFV to West LA and then eventually to LAX.
As an LA native who works daily at the airport, I’m shocked to see the inaccuracies portrayed about our airport in this video. LAX is seeing its most massive overhaul for any airport in American history. I can’t wait to see the finished product and am proud to be a part of such an enormous undertaking.
Yeah, I have worked at LAX for the past 10 years, and seeing all the different things that have been going on and being constructed has been a huge change to that airport, and they’re not even finished.
they should make transit free for residents during the Olympics if they want people to use it. Why give away free transit to tourists that are used to paying for transit in real cities
The only reason why LACMTA charges is because it is a crime deterrent. They did a study and found like ~90% of all crime committed on Metro was committed by fare-evaders.
I love that the olympics is accelerating mass transit development and they are going to use existing venues for all the events. There won’t be vacant stadiums or other infrastructure, it’ll continue to provide more mass transit to residents for many years
As a non car driver living in LA for 4 decades, even those 42 billion dollars are secured n get built by 2028, life remains the same unless you are willing to walk 5 miles or more. LA residents love cars even the train lovers love cars
I applaud their efforts, but am skeptical they will make much of an impact. The odds of someone living near a station and working near another station are low. But I’ll take anything that reduces traffic and makes LAX less of a nightmare.
I really love LA. It is one of the greatest cities in the world with so many different areas and cultures, you pretty much have the whole world in one city. I really hope that these initiatives are not only for the Olympics, but start a bigger revolution down the line to get more transit. I am in LA and greater LA area every couple of month, but was actually shocked about LAX. 3 month ago, I arrived from Las Vegas and rented a car. I was shocked that you go to a pick up line for buses to get to my specific rental car company, not yet a rental car center, which I assume will happen once the people mover is finished. Next was the somewhat sketchy area where the rental car company was located. However, even worse was just like 2 month ago when I went on an international flight and had to transfer in LAX. The services offered there were just bad. It was later in the evening, and I had to find/go to a Habit Burger grill that was horrible. The number of shops and restaurants, also affordable ones, are nowhere close to international competition. Over the last 12 month, I went through Airports in Madrid, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Copenhagen... to just name a few, and each one of these were on another level compared to LAX. I really hope that the transformation will elevate LAX to what it should be. LA, you can do it;-)
Most of the rail projects were started way before they declared this 28 by 28 nonsense, the people of Los Angeles county voted for a tax hike for these projects, they did not 'win' the 2028 Olympics until much later.
No mention of the Valley to Westwood or even LAX Metro line for the 405? That's not a 2028 goal but should be one of the biggest priorities to pick up the pace on for Metro.
The extension of Line A to Pomona will add a lot to the San Bernardino Metrolink line. However, I'm sorry Line A isn't being completed to Claremont, because Pomona (North) station area is not as TOD friendly as Claremont. The Claremont area was formerly the area around a Pacific Electric station.
How do people get to stations without cars? I live in that area. I know it will be difficult, but people like you just care about rails n big parking lots
@@commentorsilensor3734 - I routinely take 80-100 miles (200 miles round-trip!) by train, bus, subway, LRT in southern California, after driving 3 miles to my local station. I think that's a net win for the environment.

@pacificostudios first, this video is about car free system which LA mayor tried to accomplish. Of course, its not going to work because people like you push the idea you need cars to use rails. Your fatal argument prove in 4000 years LA will never be car free
I wish British people would say the city's name the way most present-day Angelenos say it. Don't British people get annoyed with us when we mispronounce places like Edinburgh?
All of these projects are indeed necessary for Los Angeles. But, one item is being missed. A big chunk of the Olympics are taking place in Inglewood. I didn't see any significant transportation planning for that area.
No the big chunk missing in local bus connection. Oh wait, you want to drive in n out of stations. Oh wait, it's about carfree. Do people know what they are talking about?
The Metro Crenshaw Line (aka the K line) runs through Inglewood. The northern section opened up in 2022 and the southern section that connects with the LA Transit Hub and the Los Angeles People mover as well as the Metro Green Line (C Line) is scheduled to open up in 2025.
Well, the concept of this video is great. The implementation pretty horrible. So many inaccuracies and more than half the amount of time spent repeating the same thing over and over and over. A much better video would’ve been to Go through The 28 projects, but you barely got through of them. Also, the LA airport is going to a massive expansion the biggest in US history while it’s delayed and over budget it will still be in immense accomplishment and will mean a much better experience for travellers, increased capacity and much better Metro connections.
Bus lines like the G and J lines are a big success. In addition, Metrolink could be improved, providing a quick link between LA and Disneyland. LA Metro should just absorb OC transit.
It's a great improvement for not just for the Olympics but for the city for many years to come. Here's 3 rail projects should be accelerated for the 2028 Olympics The East San Frando Line 2031 is way too long for a small project there's no reason to intentionally delay the project phase 2 would be instead be build as an extension in 2031. The Southeast Citygate Line both phase 1 and phase 2, that would be the largest and most ambitious of the 3, also the most expensive but it's worth it. The E Line extension to Whittier is another project to be finished by the Olympics, there's no reason to split it into two phases. It would be another big project to be done. The K line extension to Torrance and the Sepulveda Line are too ambitious and complicated to be finished by 2028, they will be finished in a later time ( unless they are also accelerated).
Your proof that Trump is stopping federal funding for transit? These funds are already earmarked, and if not why do my (federal) taxes need to pay for CA's follies and inevitable cost overruns, er, I mean graft...
The citizens of L.A. County have given Metro 40 years of budget certainty with the passing of Prop M and other initiatives. Metro constantly has the worst metrics and outcomes as judged by other cities in the U.S. Hugely expensive costs. The highest paid executives (Stephanie Wiggins' compensation package in 2024 - $487,000, a 7% pay raise over 2023). Almost every project going over it's bloated to begin with budget. Why give them even more money to plunder without accountability? How to solve Metro's structural problems. 1 - Metro must have accountability by an independent citizens commission. Executives that preside over the types of outcomes that I just described get fired, just like in the real world. 2 - Metro needs to reduce the number of projects by 75%. They should focus their work on fixing their current network, delivering new projects at a reasonable cost, on time and below the budget. Fewer projects with better outcomes.
