I'm very new to this smash bros and I still don't know how to recover after this video. I wish there was a controller icon where I know exactly what button to press. I see other videos where people are just fighting under the platform and still manage to get back on the platform ( recover )perfectly. Is there a tick to doing this because I try your technique and I'm still struggling.
@Potato Cat The best description I have is a loop of attacks that the other player can not escape from. The best of example I have of one is a Wobble. A wobble is an infinite from a grab with the Ice Climbers in melee and brawl.
@@zelgiusthebrave1401 Even Ike arguably has better recovery, since his up--B is harder to intercept and his side-B gives him the option of a higher recovery.
I end up SD’ing more than the opponent kills me due to how reckless I am lol. But nonetheless, thanks a bunch for giving newer players these helpful tips.👍🏽
Used to main little mac. Was never good, but my recovery game improved a lot. It's so much easier to recover with a different character when you struggle so hard to recover with little mac.
I watched that set against BestNess! I was super impressed that you kept your cool, came back and won the match after he had that super disrespectful KO on you.
Doing the same option AFTER your getup is a really big one that most people don't think about. Thanks for mentioning it! A lot of times I see people do normal getup and shield, so I can cover roll or jump and since I know they might getup and shield, once I see the normal getup I run in (after a getup attack would end, but before the opponent can shield drop) and grab.
These are great tips in general, but it's also extremely crucial to learn the intricacies of character-specific recoveries. For example, learn the angles at which Incineroar can Cross Chop down to ledge, or practice recovering downward with characters that can teleport. Btw love your content you beautiful banana boy you
On ledge trapping dont be afraid to take a breather before getting up on the stage. Almost always people want to keep the fast pace and so they will throw out a dash attack, or a charge smash (and the like) thinking you are going to get back up on the stage the moment you grab the edge. When they do this and you didnt try to immediately get back on the stage, they are vulnerable and you can punish them accordingly and even start edge guarding them
I honeslty kind of forgotten that bowser's up b is more vertical but back to the video, it's very useful to people especially when I get the habit of jumping immediately.
1:17 For me its more, "Don't spam the jump button after getting launched by anything." I get combo'd so much for this and generally lose a lot of stalks for it. (But props to me for nailing the very first frame of possibly jumping consistently while only pressing the button once?)
Otacon464 I believe he was referencing around 1:50 “ER” most likely means Ephemeral Rift, which is a popular channel in the ASMR community. The guy who runs it was used as the picture.
id add another tip: dont just blindly drift towards the stage once youre off-stage. by letting go of the control stick at the right time or even drifting back a little you can avoid being punished without having to use your airdodge or double jump. that also prevents getting gimped by z-dropped items, like peach's turnips or link's remote bomb.
I had my weekly tonight, I just got home and just now watched this. I got ledge gimped by some of these very things about half the time. Dang it past me, why didn’t I watch this earlier today!
Recovery is the one thing im good at. For some reason whenever i get thrown off stage I can pretty much read the opponents mind. I wish the rest of my game was this good.
Hey banana boy I haven’t seen enough people talk about spiking For some characters I can be really had like greninja for example His d-air spike hit box is fairly small but is very rewarding if hit I have not seen a single person talk about this in proper detail Thanks for your time
I stop my momentum with Side B as Villager every time. I mean, it's still a better option than doublejumping, and the slow rocket going offscreen as I recover low can even work as a surprise hit, as it arcs a little downward at the end
I am still technically bad compared to most people, and this really helped. I can finally recover against people who are better than me, and my brother doesn't even try to ledge guard.
Watch for his down-b and punish it with either a quick smash attack a combo. If yoshi is hogging the ledge, downward Ariel the bastard. Lastly, his side be is easy to punish, shield the first few hits and let go at the last ine, then punish. Hope it helps! :)
You don’t. Yoshi committed tax fraud and is a dangerous dinosaur. You wouldn’t get out alive if you battled him. Wield yourself with a sword if you still want to go ahead with the attack. Yoshi and other characters that are naked 24/7 lose greatly to swords in matchups, so keep that in mind. Hopefully that helps, if you get badly injured, don’t cry to me that I didn’t help.
As a Mario main, when offstage, you should totally spam jump immediately. I’m totally not biased and am totally not wanting people to just jump into my forward air
I like how Zelda is getting hit in your thumbnail for this vid because Zelda is the queen of beefy recovery and being unpredictable (at least in my hands)
As a R.O.B Main, even though he has a great recovery, I always seem to be offstage for like 15 seconds everytime I get knocked off. Maybe I’ll use up air more.
This is probably really dumb to ask but I’ve been using the the switch basic controller (the thing that holds your two sticks). I’ve been practicing and looking to improve in smash. I’ve played other smash games before but competitively. Should I pick up a GameCube controller and another controller or continue using what I have

Yeah especially for stages like Lylat where the ledge grabbing spot isn’t exactly visually accurate or forgiving.

Personally as an incineroar main my recovery game is on point but I'mma watch this because I can always learn more.
I like to alternate between recovery heights. Start at middle, go up, then down. Most players I fight are intimidated by this.
