I just found a new in box set for $629 on clearance.
the bass drum actually sounds huge for it's size, comparable to 24 inches, maybe?
Based on the original German Trixon 'Speedfire' of the late '50s which had a dividing strip to split the bass drum into two separate 'chambers' and came with a brace of pedals. I always hankered after one. My mate has about 20 of the buggers and they sound fine. The original Trixon 'Telstar' had conical shells. I have one of those. (Just the one). Anything else troubling of you, any aches and pains or anything?

I'm melting, melting🧹
The 18" side of the bass drum sounds bigger than its dimensions imply.. the toms were good, but the wrap ain't my thing.. i love how you guys use different styles to show any drum kit's strengths and weaknesses, so I love this review just the same!
That shit sounds SOOOOOO good, of you're into the sound I'm into!!! Its so "Surf Rock" sound its almost painful! 😎💯 I LOVE IT!!!
Pricey and unique, but SakaeOH are a top quality design firm and one can keep a spare set of kick heads on hand, if needed in a pinch.
Never gonna be my main kit, but would love to have one on hand for a change of pace!
Didn't it originate in Germany from Trixon Drums? Vox was just a brand Trixon Drums were sold as in the US.

That's the 'why'. It's a flight of fancy. And that's all right.
Some places have them on clearance pricing, as of 2022... I'm hoping to get one... just wondering if the 2021 Maple version sounds so much better...

How readily available are those bass drum heads…
What’s the purpose or benefit of that shape…
Surprisingly enough they are available but dumbass expensive (in 🙄 it's an impractical kit especially for what you get vs what you pay. It's an engineering pipe dream fleshed out into reality. People buying these deserve them I suppose but for that much money there's so many better quality builds with better sound and more practical from an instrument to live with standpoint. This is a gimmick for novelties sake.
I closed my eyes to listen, but even when I couldn't SEE the kit I still didn't care for the sound. And to me, the look of the kit is equally off putting.
Personally, for that kind of money I would opt for a different set.

For a moment I thought the kick drum was melting
I got this kit and like it but durability is questionable. Probably not good taking anywhere so I may return it.
Why is the kick drum shaped like that
It’s a re-creation of a kit that was made in the 60’s. They’ve been making em for awhile. Pretty sure the bass drum’s design is purely aesthetical.
Never knew Vox ever made drum kits. If it wasn't for that weird, oblong bass drum this would be cool.

Explorers Percussion in Kansas City, MO has an original kit on display. I can't believe someone thought this would be a good idea to make again. It looks depressed.
Some bloke might dig it because of its uniqueness. Either you like it or hate it. I’m. The later. The hardware is a joke.

I hate to say it, but there is not one single thing about that kit which doesn't look truly dreadful.

Kick's kinda flat, honestly.
This drum set has really bad hardware, everything looks cheap, not worth the money, it should be $300 US
