Can I beat The Pokémon Trading Card Game for the Game Boy Color by doing the Mega Man challenge? What is the Mega Man challenge? Every time I defeat a club master, I will "inherit" one of their signature Pokémon to place in the deck. Simple as that.

It’s funny. When we first started filming live action stuff, we made sure all of the animals were out of the shots. Now I want them to roam around as they please with me never acknowledging their presence.
This intro was the most cringeworthy yet amazing intros I have seen to date. Literally had me laughing out loud. Great video overall, keep up the solid work Para!

Fun challenges > ball bustingly difficult challenges. It's not more fun for me if you have to retry fights over and over again due to bad luck/horrible matchups that you can't do anything about due to restrictive challenge rules.

@@Paraspectre For me, the fun of watching the videos is seeing how different kinds of strategies and deck compositions work (or don't), and how it effects the gameplay experience. So a challenge that locks you into using a very limited selection (like, only 1-2 single evolutionary lines) isn't as interesting to me, especially when you hit big roadblocks where you're just hoping for better luck because of a terrible matchup, like I said above.
Stuff like "poison types only" is much more interesting to me because it still gives room for some creativity in what you use, and it has enough variety to avoid getting entirely roflstomped by a single deck (hopefully). Creative challenges like this video are also cool, and involve plenty of choice and decision making in determining what order you want to face the gyms and which card you want to incorporate when you win.
If I might make a suggestion for a future challenge, how about a single set challenge where you're only allowed to use cards from a single set you choose (or maybe select randomly!) at the start of the game.
Okay... i've got an idea.
How about a challenge you ONLY can use Pokemon that have attacks where you need to flip a Coin for them making damage? (And of course you only can use these moves)
(Fury Swipes, Spike Cannon, Greast Eggsplosion and the bunch)

They SERIOUSLY need to revamp this game for the Switch and allow the use of code cards to gain virtual cards etc. The TCG is doing incredibly well, so it's such a shame not to be able to play it on the Switch.
I think it would do VERY well. I feel like the current cards are way beyond my level though. Base through Rocket is all I really knew

Do a Coinflip only challenge - only moves, that deal damage based on Coins, bonus points for using pokeball

I feel like the “challenge” aspect of Pokémon challenge videos are way more entertaining, when the creator is having fun. I’d much rather watch this kind of creative content, than grinding for 1000 hours until success.

This is a simple idea, sure. That said you did make it interesting with your card chooses. I honestly thought you would go for Seadra since Horse has 'Smoke Screen". The Growlith line was also interesting, despite lacking health. Magmar is pretty good for damage, but it's fair all the same.
I'd still like to see a Porygon only run, but after seeing Rattata in the beginning makes me want to request a 30 HP challenge. A challenge that has you using only pokemon with 30 HP. There a few: Rattata, Gastly, Diglett. Porygon (of course :), Magikarp, Abra, Shellder, Kabuto (so a Fossil would be required) and Tentacool (it's ability might prove useful). You could also do a self damage run? using only pokemon and attacks that damage themselves. So, you would get to use Chansey! XD

A "Megaman Challenge" in the main series would literally just be using every Gym Leader-given TM, wouldn't it? Your little men stay the same, but inherit the power of their signature pocket monster; it's almost too perfect.
Yeah I guess that could be considered MORE accurate, obtaining the “weapons,” but it doesn’t seem as fun or interesting. Although being forced to use Bide from Brock in Gen 1… now that’s a challenge

Fun fact in the grand masters only Courtney plays by the rules the others if they only have one basic pokemon and don't like their hand can shuffle the hand into the deck illegally it's in the game code

Would love for someone to dig into the code of this game to beef up it's difficulty, spefically regarding deck lists, and the ai decking themselves out with kangashan is the real problem.

This was a fun video. The theme team was a refreshing change of pace and your insights into picking which of the club leader's starters you would take was pretty interesting. Personally, I don't mind if you do easier challenges. I am here for your personality and fun skits instead of watching you slog through tough challenges. When you did your Sandshrew/Sandslash only challenge I could definitely tell as the challenge got harder and harder your enthusiasm really dipped and it leaked into your commentary.
That opening skit was pretty cool and it gave off some nice RE vibes. I'd love to see you and Spike take on a horde of zombies in a reclusive mansion some day. Have you ever dressed as a member of S.T.A.R.S for Halloween? Maybe you and Spike could have matching costumes!
Also, I totally feel you with Black/White. I really didn't jive with the game at first and it took a couple of years to come to appreciate what it did well. It does have some of my favorite Pokemon but I'll talk more about that if you do a retrospective.
I appreciate the feedback on the Sandies challenge. It really was the least fun one to do, especially with GB2. I like that the expectation isn’t there for me to do grueling challenges because that doesn’t always translate well for a video idea.
And I tried to be Leon one year (back when I had long hair), but I didn’t have any money to make it look right. I would LOVE to implement more RE stuff though. It is my favorite game series of all time after all.

UA-cam says I've watched this but I have no memory of doing so (might have fallen asleep with autoplay on), so I'm watching it again. This is great! I dig these challenges! I love watching Jrose, Scott's Thoughts, and Mah Dry Bread do gen one challenges, but the TCG is my preference every time a new Pokemon Challenge video is uploaded. You've inspired me to do a fire energy only run, which has been surprisingly easy considering how many fire moves discard fire energy cards. I'm not uploading it or anything; just playing for fun. My next run will be water only and utilize hyper beam, I think. Then maybe my own MegaMan run.
How do you get 4 Rattata and 4 raticate at the start I wanna do this run on my own time for fun.
I kept fighting random trainers who give those cards out until I had 4. Then started the challenge.
Not sure why there was the meta story of an Evil Dead parody surrounding a Megaman challenge of the Pokémon TCG video game, but I’m here for it and I appreciate it!

I feel like having 6 pokemon in the deck would feel more in the spirit of pokemon, like you could have the 4 for the first club then get up to 6 from defeating other gyms like it would be in pokemon
Yeah that’s a good point. I saw it more that I have the opportunity to use all of them by the end like Mega Man does rather than the 6 limit.
I don't care that Parasect can't actually learn Razor Leaf; that was funny.

How about a challenge where except for the energy guy you're only allowed to beat a trainer once limiting and randomizeing your cards
I thought of something similar. A 100% random deck and I gotta do what I can with it. That might be fun if I ever try streaming
I think you could try a randomizer where every battle has a random deck and you have to figure out how to win each battle
Honestly, I think that challenges like this are really nice to include. What I at least appreciate from these videos is the strategy and thought that's put into dealing with situations and that match against Jack for example offered a lot of that, meanwhile when you're forced to play just a single evolution line the strategy can very often become use certain trainer cards like gust of wind. While I do appreciate hearing how certain evolution lines play, at this point I think challenges like this one which have you building a more varied deck that gives you more tools to play with may offer more insight into new strategies that you hadn't had to use before. Great video though! Can't wait for the next one!
Yeah that’s the thing with trainer cards. They can make the matches more interesting but it’s easy to get too reliant on them. I do love my gusties though

I thought that the challenge would be that each time to beat a club leader you would use an exact copy of the leader’s deck.
While that would be an interesting challenge on its own, it doesn’t really match Mega Man. He continues to build his arsenal each time by keeping the same weapons. But that’s something to consider for the future!

I got a challenge for you: can you beat the game as batman (and robin)? Golbat and either Pidgeot or Fearow with lots of tricky trainer cards for that bat utility belt.

It doesn’t always work well. The Mega Man Challenge for Gen 1 for example, makes it difficult by the second gym since you can’t get Staryu until way later. But it’s still fun to try! It actually worked out well in Shining Pearl

It's a shame you don't like Black and White as much as the other games. Personally, it has my favorite pokemon (and a lot of ehh pokemon but that's beside the point) and my favorite antagonist squad with team Plasma.
I’ve given it three chances now. It’s the only pair of games that I just can’t get into. I don’t think they’re bad, but I don’t find myself getting invested. They are my least favorite graphically too. But weirdly enough, I like Black 2 and White 2 more
For me, Black and White feel way too slow. You have 14 rival battles (19 including N), a story that drags on, 2 abysmal battle styles, and poor scaling - people rag on X&Y for battles not having enough Pokémon but the leaders in B/W have 3 each, and the elite four have 4 each. Without B2/W2, I believe Unova would’ve fared worse than Kalos, which introduced a major new feature and a new type. B/W really only introduced seasons, outside of characters.

Your videos encouraged me to revisit these games! I recently did a pacifist run where I didn't use any damaging moves, so I could only win by decking out the opponent or fainting through moves like Gloom's poisonpowder. I had to readjust the deck often for trainer cards and managing resists, but Cubone was the overall MVP with snivel. It may not be interesting to watch, but if you're looking for ideas!
Oh, and Aerodactyl. That pokemon power reaaally helps when your opponent has access to every evolution and energy in their deck
I’ve had multiple people suggest a pacifist fun and I kinda started to plan it out but never started it. Was it fun?
@@Paraspectre It was! It made me think a lot more about match ups before going into battles, and it really showcased how weird/bad the AI can be. I also let myself grind for cards without the pacifist rules so I could avoid the majority of the tedium

In a way, the Grand Masters are your Skull Castle bosses, with the final fight against Ronald being the obligatory Dr. Wily battle. Makes sense, then, that you don't take any of their cards, since it works the same way in Mega Man.
