Last year, I had A Very Paraspectre Holiday Special which was beating the Pokémon Trading Card Game using only Ice type Pokémon. This year, let's continue on with the question and complete the Pokémon Trading Card Game 2 (Pokémon Card GB2: Here Comes Great Team Rocket!)
Challenge begins at 11:16 if you choose to skip the beginning. But why would you, you know?
Original Paraspectre Intro by Joshua C. Griffin

The original Ice Type Only challenge: • Ice Types Only: Pokémo...

I say it EVERY YEAR. It’s just not Christmas without a Paraspectre video of him doing an Ice Pokémon only challenge run in the Japanese exclusive sequel to the Pokémon Trading Crad game on the GameBoy. My parents had no idea what I was talking about as a kid so they just put on The Grinch.
I remember growing up watching tv specials of Ice Pokémon only challenge runs in the Japanese exclusive sequels to the Pokémon Trading Card Game on the Game Boy and wanted to try and recreate that magic here.
Never heard of the Grinch.
@@Paraspectrehe’s like if Mewtwo hated Christmas and he Nasty Plots to ruin it, but a little girl teaches him the true meaning of Christmas and at the very end he gains the ability Soul Heart and changes his ways
Interesting how Articuno had Freeze Dry and Aurora Veil before they were moves in the main video games!
Also, I always thought it was weird Dewgong's card was an uncommon too. It's moves were good enough for a rare, and I think the art was pretty enough as well for a holo.
I feel like they had to have gone back to the card game for attack names, or used beta attack names for the cards, because there are so many that have turned into official moves
Yeah that is pretty weird. It’s essentially the same as Ice Beam in the card game so I wonder why they changed the name here. Maybe to make Articuno more unique. Now they just need to make Boyfriends a move from the Nidoqueen card.
I really love just how _done_ Parasect is with you in the skits. It's great. You really are such a goober in them and I can't imagine having to deal with that every day. Such a brave stuffed animal o7
Haha I wanted an episode where he sounds super annoyed by me the whole time. Alex did a great job.
Wasn't hard to voice him either. With the things Paraspectre puts him through...it didn't take much lol
"Hey spike, how do you draw a pentagram?" Refuses to elaborate further
Thanks for reminding me, I never did finish writing in that card
@@Paraspectre to Mathew?
Now that you've done ice in both games it could be cool to see other challenges during other seasons/holidays. Maybe fire type for the Fourth of July. Exeggcute line for Easter. Pink pokemon for Valentines day.
Lots of options.
Also I have the bell but I don't remember getting a notification for this video and only just now saw it recommended. I really don't want to miss these challenges.
This is an excellent idea and one I’ll be thinking about more… Easter could be Exeggcute and Wigglytuff only.
@@Paraspectre Wigglytuff is a very good idea.
@@Paraspectre Chansey has an egg in its pouch.
I have a TCG GB challenge for you: beat the first game without using Trainer cards. Trainers are broken in the Base Sets with being able to play 4 Professor Oaks and Bills per turn and letting Energy Removals fly. As tedious as the second game can get, the first would probably be better.
As for something relevant to the video, I used Dewgong a ton as a kid in the TCG GB. 3 energy for 50 damage is great when your opponents aren’t minmaxed with the Energy Removals flying. Teamed it up with Wartortle a lot.
I have had a couple requests for no trainer cards. I for sure agree that they can be a bit overpowered, especially with how often I rely on gusties. But I wouldn’t really know what the deck would be, since every Pokémon and energy card would be options.
2:40 holy shit that guy almost died! That was legit 1cm from his head slamming into those brick!
Yeaaaa I didn’t know what I was going to find by searching those haha
How about a challenge with the Nidos? Can the Nidos defeat Great Rocket?
I do love the nidos
@@Paraspectre I would suggest up to three base forms if you’re using the full line of either/each.
I just hope there’s enough variants to allow you colorless attacks.
I love this ptcg GBA 2 content I would love a small tips video of both the games of what trainers are good to farm or some more challenges I just love your content 💙
Never thought about a tips video, interesting. I’ve now completed it three times, so I’m still not super familiar with it.
although its been said many times, many ways, merry christmas.
Oooh, a TCG2 challenge! How rare!
I’m certain this challenge will be easier from an objective standpoint given that there aren’t 5 Ice type cards. But as much as I love TCG2, it can be very dumb. Still waiting on those Sealed Fortress battles!
Haha I’m always so done with the game by the time I take out King Villicci that I’ve never checked out what’s next.
@@Paraspectre You have to beat him twice before you can enter. It would be cool for like a stream or something.
I remember Last Year's Challenge and was so much fun, this one was so so so Good Too! Your intros are Goated! Hahah
Love all your content Bro!
Happy Holidays!
Take Care!
💚🐌💚🍄💚
Thank you! I don’t think Spike was even around last year so this had a different tone ☺️
This was a great video. I was hoping that Dewgong would be the workhorse it was in the first game but seeing Cloyster step up to the plate in the final battle was an awesome ending. Also, you can never have enough Dewgong especially in this post-Dexit world.
It’s probably my fault that it wasn’t because I opted for Articuno more often with Poké balls. Dewgong really didn’t matter for the second half.
Captain hindsight here to offer some assistance in any future runs for challenges like this where you need to edit the deck sometimes. Make a copy of the deck and put it into different slots, then edit that one. You could make one that’s just for energy requirements, and one with 4 random Pokémon shoved in or whatever. Makes it a bit easier to switch back and forth.
Edit: I think you’d have to make templates and not decks technically, but it would probably still keep things quick in the long run.
I thought about this, but I was constantly adjusting what trainer cards are in the decks anyway, so I stuck with adjusting the same one each time. I’m sure what you’re saying is the better route though because it was still annoying every time haha
Why would I skip to 11:16 that is utter nonsense
That’s what I’m saying, yo. But some people want to do it 🤷🏻♂️
Love the Christmas specials every year! If you need a break from this game I totally get it! I think it’s cool if they are a special treat. Also I am so hyped about the gen 3 paraspectives
Thanks! I’m doing a new side video idea next and then the Paraspective continues.
I love your videos, especially the tcg ones! I adore Spike!! Also, KITTY!!! 😻😻😻😻😻😻
Pancake made a few appearances this time! I never acknowledge them in the videos but always leave them in the shots if they are wandering ☺️
Challenge idea:
Coin flip only moves and gambler cards.
My idea aside, always thrilled to see another of your videos in my subbox :D
I just started watching the video, and if can say something is that Lapras with surf is amazing, when I played this game it was a fast attacker that most of the time overwhelmed my opponents before they could set a bench, pretty cool pokemon
Are you planning to do a Matthew deck run in this game? Would you use their GB1 deck or GB2 deck?
I certainly have thought about it but I had some concerns of continuing to do the same challenges on both games. Is it too redundant? I’ve done 3 on both games now.
@Paraspectre Hum... kind of depends, I guess? Maybe not back to back, but it might work as a challenge after like using another npc's deck in GB1? Like Ryan's, maybe? They use fossil deck, I think?
That yt making you only make pokemon videos joke was a good nod haha
Haha I wasn’t sure if it made sense or not
Love the tcg2 challenges! Keep it up
Thank you!
Idea for a challenge run for this game: Use only pokemon with 50 HP or less. Something like that should work with most if not all of the in-game challenges and give you plenty of room to experiment with different decks and cards.
It’s a possibility! I’ve even considered only 30hp mons.
@@Paraspectre I just hope that whatever you do next for this game, it's fun throughout. I always like when challenge runs add fun twists, rather than just being frustrating for the player.
A challenge, where only attacks doing 10 or 20 damage can be used?
I have certainly contemplated this!
The Articuno Challenge (ft. the Pounding Jinx Remix). Another great video bro, you're a good Man Paraspectre.
Haha I’m a good man??? Oh, thank you.
@@Paraspectre 🤣🤣🤣
I get it! Nick just wanted to some asynchronous caroling, so he left sticky notes with lyrics all around your house for you to enjoy at your own convenience.
What a nice guy.
Nick is super creepy, but I think he’s harmless in the end.
You’re a good man Paraspectre (:
I’ll never be as good of a man as GR3 ☹️
Thx for the community post. UA-cam didn't want to recommend it to me even though I watch almost everything you upload. Love your TCG2 vids!
Thank you! Yeah, something is very wonky with my videos getting recommended. Kinda frustrating
I’m pretty sure Clamp is objectively better on that Cloyster unless your deck is running low. It’s a 50% chance to do 60 damage (over 2 turns but still no retaliation apart from opponent bench building) instead of a 25% chance to do 60 damage and a 25% to do 0
The General MIDI Metallica track at the end sounds like something from Devil Summoner lol
why not as part of your pokenomicon storyline you have to use only dark pokemon in this game.
Now that’s a possibility
Nice video.
thanks a lot, sir.
you're a good man.
Finally, the king-awaited ice type TCG! I hope he takes the helix fossil!
O-ma-nyte. O-ma-nyte.
You are probably aware the name of the Porygon card at 31:17 is literally Cool Porygon, but yes it is not cool.
huh, Promo and Fossil articuno would combo pretty well if Promo's ability applied while benched, or in the double battle format not in this game(is it even still supported?)
Very true. But of course I make that one card per Pokémon rule so I’ll never know…
@@Paraspectre fair enough. then again none of the TCG games supported the double battle format(much like how none of GF's games had more than token double battles), so it's quite moot
I noticed Super Mario RPG music in the background and am looking forward to a video on that someday. I think its low difficulty would lend itself well to self-imposed challenges.
Since it IS my favorite game of all time, I have thought about doing a challenge with it. Just not sure what would be the most entertaining to watch
@@Paraspectre I think a retrospective with your memories of the game would make for a good video as well.
New paraspectre video?! Great bday present !!
Heck yeah, birthday. I hope you like ice.
@@Paraspectre thanks!!
Bulbasaur-Deck-Jynx, or BDeckJynx. Bynx, if you will.
Missed opportunity to call it Bynx. Ah well, maybe next time
I bet it's his deck I originally thought it was a pipebomb
Happy holidays!
Likewise!
You have to try this challenge with the Imakuni decks!
Definitely a top recommended idea!
Can't you set a deck and save it? You only have to make the X energy only deck once and then switch out only the energies. Then switch back to normal deck for other parts of the game
I probably should’ve done this, yeah. Even though I said it was annoying, I got pretty fast at changing it 😎
You have good taste in VGM my man.
at 40:00 Isn't that the Hoth Theme from Star wars?
Now you have to do a challenge where you only use attacks that do 10 base damage lol
This is doable. Unless you mean only attacks that do 10 without anything else, in which case… yikes. But maybe.
@@Paraspectre I wouldn't want to see you put yourself through that much torture for our sake lol. Figured it could fun using the different effects and deck combos
19:00 Snorlax moment
TCG challenge idea #1: can only use Pokémon you'd find in an industrial setting, such as a construction yard, blast furnace, or power plant (Grimer, Muk, Koffing, Weezing, Magmar, Magnemite, Magneton, Voltorb, Electrode, Electabuzz, Machop, etc.)
TCG challenge idea #2: can only use dragon-like Pokémon (Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, Dragonite)
TCG challenge idea #3: can only use Halloween or spooky-themed Pokémon (Zubat, Golbat, Cubone, Marowak, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar)
Wheeeeere might one find a translation for this game?
On the internet
Intro on point as per usual :D love it
What's a Googon? (Gugun?)
I think he's talking about Goo-Gone, an adhesive removal thing
Yeah, the adhesive remover. When I first learned about Dewgong, I thought it sounded like Goo Gone. My parents always had a bottle of that around.
Do you warm up your eggnog in the microwave??? I'm not putting emphasis on the microwave aspect, but the warming of the eggnog, that seems revolting to me. To be clear, when eggnog is available in stores, I'm buying it weekly. I love eggnog, but to warm it up seems so fowl.
I just played some of the TCG2 game and I ended up getting a fossil articuno from the packs from the training stuff on the left side of the lab, I think? I did get it somehow in the earlygame.
Edit: Never Mind, I just found where you found that exact articuno early in the game.
I actually am trying a challenge currently that's pretty fun. I have no restrictions on the deck itself, but I may only use attacks with the word "random" in the description. It has been fun because each turn is you adapting to the situation and learning to pivot instead of planning many turns ahead. You should give it a shot!
Christmas came early!
This was super fun
I like your non Pokemon content as well, but it does seem like that's what UA-cam has told you. That joke was unexpected.
Just gen 2 mons?
Ah that’s interesting. I’d have to look up how you get the three
I'd love to see it, even if the cards aren't obtainable in the beginning of the story. There are loads of challenges that start when the first piece is obtained. Give my love to Spike and have a lovely holiday season
We need more obscure decks!!!!
Missed you! Glad you are back!
Why thank you! It felt like this took forever to make
My man, you make those incredible vids on a game that I love with some great background music. Keep up the great work!
Thank you kindly
Merry Christmas everyone this was a wonderful video for Christmas
I love your challenges …
I have also a idear and I am not sure how hard it is … tgc2 with minimum Battel (so no farming) and you need to win every battel on your first try :)
Yikes.. I wonder how many attempts that would take
I enjoy these challenges maybe your next one can be how fast the old haymaker deck can beat the game or try and beat the game using the terrible starter decks base set had
I’ve had a couple people suggest the Haymaker. And I sort of did the Base Set theme deck challenge, just on Pokémon Red. The others are an option though
(base)Dewgong is one of the cards that had it's rarity changed in ptcg2 (to rare in game)
It’s pretty badass
The limit of one of each is what made this really harr
Goin hard in the paint with them Ice Stage themes I see.
So uh, when will there be a bug type challenge?
Wonder if you could do a type of nuzlocke run? Maybe can only use cards from the first 1-3 of that type you get, and if a monster is knocked out, you have to remove/replace the card. What do you think?
I tried to do a literal nuzlocke run and absolutely hated it haha. It would need some rules tweaks
@@Paraspectre yeh it deffo needs some finesse lol. maybe put up a community post for ideas? I think only using cards from the first 1-3pk of each type is a good start. It'd be too limiting I think to only allow the first pulled monster from each pack - not even a normal nuzlocke forces you to use anything if you don't want, you can always box them. It'd be fun tho.
I wonder what happens with the game when you make a "missingno card" - ie, you try to use a card index that's not got any information in the games database. I'd guess it probably locks up. You can probably patch the crashing if so too but I'm not sure what it'd achieve lol. Still I'd be interested to see what playing a "missingno card" as a pokemon or trainer would use 🤔
Woo! More TCG challenge!
More TCG2 content please!
A Christmas Miracle
How do you get an English rom?
theres a patch that turns it into english

@@Strider73 I see was looking for a more simple process my emulator is phone bound and it's finicky as is no worries the game looks essentially the same as the first but with crap rules added in so I don't even want it, just nostalgia speaking
@@jeffhough7460 i have it on my phone, I think I patched it without having to move it from my pc but its been a while, but I do remember it was really easy.

Truth. Also kinda Brock’s dad.
Wooo.
Ice types again! On GB2
So many new card options this time

(Better) Challenge idea: Beat the game with Ronald's deck. Really show that sadsack how to use a Kangaskhan.
TCG Challenge idea: Brock's Team -- Only use Pokemon Brock used in the 1st season of the anime: Onix, Vulpix, etc.
I’ve actually thought about this, except using his team throughout the whole first season. That or using just Geodude and Onix.
A Christmas gift if you are playing this game! Almost an hour video! Good work @paraspectre
This actually is my longest video. It was over an hour but I cut back on some of the less interesting fights

Many many hours
