When the sky is falling and you're looking round
    For somewhere to hide
Did you ever call out to someone
Did you ever call out to me, I've never been gone-
I've been right here by your side
    There ain't nothin' but clouds
There ain't nothin' but clouds in your eyes
Why don't you believe it when you finally found the truth
You've been drinking poison water from the fountain of youth
Why don't you stop tearing up everyone you need the most
You're so busy trying to get even
You never even try to get close
    I can't explain it away
    It doesn't make any sense
    To know what it's like
I guess you gotta go through it
    It doesn't matter baby
    Loving you's a dirty job
    But somebody's gotta do it
There were times when we'd never fake it
There were times when we'd always make it
There were times when we'd take it to the limit
And we'd never, never, ever leave each other alone
We wee flesh and blood and bone
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all
There were times when we took our chances
There were times we were damn good dancers
There were times when we heard all the answers
In the beating of the drummer
And the riches of the rock and the roll
I can see right through your soul
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all
If your fears could only be forgotten
We could pull all the barriers down
Would you follow your dream's desire
Would you follow your secret dreams
    And forbidden fire
Let's just peel out of this town
    It's been nothing but dreams
It's been nothing but dreams until now
    You're never gonna see it
You got your head stuck in the sand
It's the land of the free and easy street
It's the home of the damned
    You're never gonna see it
You better open up your eyes
You're the only one who's left
Who's gonna believe all your lies
    I can't explain it away
    It doesn't make any sense
Both: To know what it's like
I guess you gotta go through it
    It doesn't matter baby
Girl: Loving you's a dirty job
    But somebody's gotta do it
There were times when our bodies glistened
There were times that we can't stop missing
There were times that we'd lay in bed and listen
Both: To the pounding, pounding chorus
    Of our desperate hearts
Nothing could have torn us apart
There were times we had it all
There were times we had it all
There were times when we fought like tigers
There were times we were damn good liars
There were times we extinguished every fire
That was burning, burning, burning, up each other alive
From the heavens on down to the dives
There were times we lost it all
There were times we lost it all
There were times when we fought like tigers
There were times we were damn good liars
Both: There were times when our bodies glistened
There were times that we can't stop missing
There were times that we'd lay in bed and listen
To the pounding, pounding, chorus of our desperate hearts
Nothing could have torn us apart

It's good as a Steinman backing singer as he is paired with some of the strongest voices music has ever had. In any other type of music or paired with weaker voices he would be a good lead vocal.

I’m convinced all of Jim's songs can hit hard if we understand the meaning of his songs, and even more if we have experienced similar situations and challenges. I myself know many people right now who I love as a dirty job, hoping that they will one day see the light and 180 degree change their life…
Will forever remember you Jim. Your life was not and will never be in vain. Thank you for all your music. ❤

    • @Whateverwhoification
      @Whateverwhoification 3 роки тому

agreed, and great observation. Dodd is probably Steinman's most technically brilliant singer, but the others imbue his words with so much emotion-Tyler,Rundgren, and of course MeatLoaf. You have to give it your all with a Steinman song. Dodd does, but he can't quite own it the way Bonnie Tyler does.

    • @souldeep69
      @souldeep69 3 роки тому

@Whateverwhoification - may be the case sometimes, but on "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through", Rory Dodd owns it, makes it, becomes it, _is_ it. All the awe, tenderness, reassurance and hope the song contains is expressed beautifully in his voice and singing. Can't take that one away from him.

Totally agreed, Rory Dodd is far superior as a singer. I actually like Bonnie's voice with Steinman up to this album, then her voice got too screwed up and husky, it's not really all that listenable to, today. Anyway, I'd love to hear a Loving You's a Dirty Job, with Rory and Holly Sherwood. But even so, this version is totally great. Rory totally hits the high notes and syncs beautifully with Bonnie.

Jim hätte über seinen Schatten springen sollen, das Kriegsbeil gegen Meat vergraben sollen und exakt dieses fantastische Machwerk von Meat als männlichen Part dieses Duetts singen lassen sollen.

Probabyl for political reasons. While Meat Loaf ist the best singer of all time (in my opinion) his politicial views seem to be far off what I would support. I guess, for a musical reason he definitly should be included, but I understand that he is not.

Not really if you want to say he sounds like Steinman on songs like "Surf's up, Rock and Roll Dreams come true or Lost Boys and Golden Girls from the Bad for Godd album that's because Rory Dodd actuall sang the album versions of these three songs. Steinman only sang the rest of the album.

@@NeovenatorRex I always thought he sounded a lot like Steinman on Bad for Good, and he did. Rory could sing every note Steinman asked him to sing, and while Steinman's voice is really beautiful, Rory's is technically better and stronger. It's a shame Rory didn't get much credit for Surf's Up and the other songs he sang on BFG. I maintain that Steinman should have formed a band with Rory Dodd and Holly Sherwood.

It already is perfect. Although personally I think Bonnie Tyler could have been replaced by Holly Sherwood, but Bonnie did a good job here, she still sang good in the mid 80s. In any case, this demo is actually the best version of the song. Rory Dodd sings much better than Todd Rundgren.

King Rick Well it's a new version from older song you already like so generally you will find them better, just because you ve been listening to them for 10-30 years...I'v listened hours of music, alternating orignal song then remake / demo out there and some of them are better, some not, music ain't exactly the same either because a demo is still a demo... Some are hard to compare because the song is way different and some are simply plain better even if music is only piano. For this song, this demo I think is way better than original one but if you take for exemple, a kiss is a terrible thing to waste, the meatloaf version songs better in my opinion.

    • @EliasAlucard
      @EliasAlucard 6 років тому +3

Meat Loaf can't really sing; his Steinman songs are only good until you've heard Rory Dodd, Holly Sherwood or Jim Steinman himself, sing the song in question. Just take Heaven Can Wait, with Karla DeVito, as a case in point: far superior to Meat Loaf's version, and Meat Loaf's cover of Original Sin, which I heard after the Pandora's Box version, totally sucks. Also, you're wrong about new version; I hear new covers of Total Eclipse of the Heart all the time, I don't like them more over Bonnie's original version, because all of these covers recorded by mediocre singers, are inferior. However, I'm pretty sure that Holly Sherwood could sing TEOTH better than Bonnie. Holly Sherwood and Rory Dodd are Steinman's two top singers, ever. Bonnie was good until their second collaboration, but the only reason Bonnie Tyler became Steinman's new top dog, is simply because her record company paid Steinman good money. Other than that, Steinman has worked with many talented singers over the years, certainly more talented than both Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler.
