Rory is a great singer that does justice to Jim’s songs. Jim as said is easily the greatest songwriter. There is no comparison. With the first few notes it’s obviously Steinman.
I talked to Rory Dodd on the phone a lifetime ago. I asked him the question that every Steinmaniac wants to know: Why didn't he make it big? Why didn't he achieve fame, given his truly amazing voice/talent. His answer was simple: He was just a regular personality, a singer. He didn't have a "catch." He didn't have a "gimmick" to offer, a hook for the general listening public. I saw his point, and appreciated his unparalleled gift that much more for it.
yes absoutely and yet u see rory on bat videos of the bat the bat has personaility of it own i guess why meatloaf made it but rory dodd is 1 hell of a singer beautful makjejeic briillance
Rory shoud have been given more credit for the songs he sang lead vocals on, on the Jim Steinman album 'Bad for Good'. That might have helped Rory's career a bit.
I love the way Jim speeds songs up then slows them down then speeds them up and then slows them down again. I thought after his death they would find loads of he's music that no one has heard.
Steinman is able to tear your heart apart with his "power chords". Never heard such kind of passion. Never heard such kind of a masterpiece. He can beat you and caress you only in two notes. Nobody can give the right sound to the lyrics like Rory. This song is a special one, and this is how I imagine heaven would sounds like.
Now hes making the vaults of heaven echo with this song. Rest in peace jim. Your music has been a gift that I know I and many more will appreciate forever.
just heard a Steinman interview where he said he broke a grand piano at one of the venues when they were first touring, the keys flew out and the string broke and he thought it was hilarious' to the shock of those who were supposed to play it in the following act... you can hear him absolutely smashing the piano in this. He said he was known for really hitting the piano hard!
Vaults of Heaven Lyrics In the still of the night I could follow the angels to the vaults of Heaven By the grow of the night As a million stars are shining on the rim of the sky Tear the curtains aside And my eyes are burning brightly through the vaults of Heaven Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free As the planets collide I can ride upon the winds into the vaults of Heaven Where the spirits reside I'll be gliding on the currеnts of the breath of the gods In thе arms of all time I can hear my heartbeat pounding in the vaults of Heaven Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free In the still of the night I could follow the angels to the vaults of Heaven By the grow of the night As a million stars are shining on the rim of the sky Tear the curtains aside And my eyes are burning brightly through the vaults of Heaven Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free
One of my favourite tracks on UA-cam without a doubt. How this didn't get on a Bonnie / Meat album is anyones guess. This would have not sounded out of place on Bat 3 just before Cry To Heaven.
Would have been great to have heard a full Steinman / Rinkoff production of this, with Rory singing. But in the absence of that, this will do just fine. #RIPJim
I really love this song. Wow, just when you think it can't get any better, it does! Thanks for posting this "better sound quality" version. This is pure perfection!
Every now and again you find these great unknown tracks where you wonder why everyone in the world doesn't already know them by heart. Would have been an amazing song for any of Jim's collaborators to release, but I always wondered why there was no sequel to Bad for Good, and why we didn't here more from Rory. Rock and Roll Dreams Come through is an amazing track. An incredible voice.
Just been watching A small Circle of Friends which Jim Steinman wrote the music for just to check out the original version of Making Love Out of Nothing at All and part of this song is in it too. Love hearing parts of Jim's songs in other pieces he writes.
I was listening to this track and hadn't twigged it was the tune used for "Für Sarah". Then I read your comment and the penny dropped. I had been wondering why this tune was so familiar. Thanks for pointing this out and enlightening me.
Anyone know where to download unrealeased Steinman demo’s and such? I would just download the UA-cam video but the quality would be a fraction of the actual mp3’s
Very Broadway sort of sound. Rory Dodd's voice here resembles Mandy Patinkin's best moments on the "Evita" cast recording. Patinkin would almost certainly be my choice for this number if organizing a Steinman tribute.
Wasn't this tune also used as the song "For Sarah" in the dance of the vampires musical? Was all the music taken from other things that Jim had already written?
For all of you who love the song as much as I do: Listen to "Für Sarah" ("For Sarah"). ua-cam.com/video/2cS8PPJ-e_E/v-deo.html It's beautiful song from the Tanz der Vampire musical for which Steinmein wrote all the music! :)
Inspiring, but rather than storming the Vaults of Heaven, I'm ready to dust off Battle Axe, Grab my Viking Helmet, and storming that office that keeps calling me about extended car warranties!
RIP Jim Steinman, greatest songwriter of all time. 1947 - 2021
He so is!
Rory is a great singer that does justice to Jim’s songs. Jim as said is easily the greatest songwriter. There is no comparison. With the first few notes it’s obviously Steinman.
this song ,makes u cry everytime as tyhe piano is so exce[ption and lyric are sublime to say the least

I'm a PROUD STEINMANIAC

Bryan Marcus I was thinking the same thing! Why didn’t Jim write songs specifically for him because he definitely would’ve became big!
Lucky you, dude !
Rory shoud have been given more credit for the songs he sang lead vocals on, on the Jim Steinman album 'Bad for Good'. That might have helped Rory's career a bit.
MODERN MOZART Rest in Peace Jim THANK YOU For the Beautiful MUSIC

I love the way Jim speeds songs up then slows them down then speeds them up and then slows them down again. I thought after his death they would find loads of he's music that no one has heard.
Awesome. There should be an album of Rory Dodd singing Steinman.
Bad for Good comes awfully close
one hell of a singer to say the least

How did this song not become a major hit? I wish the masses could hear this as I can't stop listening. What a combo of Rory and Jim.
It's more like a Broadway song
@@pjones6749 Yes! I thought the same thing.
This song deserves a better life then living in a single demo, where beauty overrides sanity.
yes this song is a masterclass of jim piano play and the songing is sublime
Absolutely stunning , love Jim Steinman’s beautiful piano, and Rory Dodds impeccable voice soars!

Yep...imagine how the incredible piano bits could have been transformed into orchestral parts and guitar solos.
Would have been great to have heard a full Steinman / Rinkoff production of this, with Rory singing. But in the absence of that, this will do just fine. #RIPJim
Rory Dodd simply the greatest voice ever
Wow, the voice and the piano is wonderfull!

2:00am? Lunch time? The usual incredible vocals. Who's surprised?!
Jim era excelente pianista... Deus abençoe.
Someone needs to record this with a full band.
Beautiful,,,an amazing talent ,such range,,,
What a performance - perfect , I think this is your best which makes it incredibly good. Thank you!
this is a true mastercllass expectional
until now i have only known the "fur Sarah" version used in Tanz Der Vampires, and i think both versions are great,
I was listening to this track and hadn't twigged it was the tune used for "Für Sarah". Then I read your comment and the penny dropped. I had been wondering why this tune was so familiar. Thanks for pointing this out and enlightening me.
Incredible
Great voice
So beautiful. Simply incredible. Thank you so very much.

Anyone know where to download unrealeased Steinman demo’s and such? I would just download the UA-cam video but the quality would be a fraction of the actual mp3’s

interesting listening to it on 1.25
Tex and Rex from "Shining Time Station"
Very Broadway sort of sound. Rory Dodd's voice here resembles Mandy Patinkin's best moments on the "Evita" cast recording. Patinkin would almost certainly be my choice for this number if organizing a Steinman tribute.
+Gibson DelGiudice the song with another text is used in the musical tanz der vampire. Called "Für Sarah (for Sarah)
I'm very much aware of that, Michael.
You might also notice that the intro to this song sounds like a sped-up version of "Das Gebet," ja?
+Gibson DelGiudice yes. I love that musical. But it's not very know in the US, let a long the german original and not Crawford's atrocity
@@MichaelKnaepen Atrocity indeed. We Americans really know how to fuck things up.
my favorite. music Jim Steinma,’ he’s favorite singer guy he’s good my boyfriend singer.
Wasn't this tune also used as the song "For Sarah" in the dance of the vampires musical? Was all the music taken from other things that Jim had already written?
Yes.
i loved that show! as michael crawford's fan id say i was the only one! lol
so operatic this song it just sublime say the least
is this on LP anywhere ?
RIP JIM
RIP Jim, Little Richard Wagner!
I've always been really taken with how closely Jim's piano playing matches Roy Bittan's. Jim could have toured with the E Street Band.
Roy britain and jim on piano are genius both are brilaint it povetry in montion
roy and jim piano play is majestic say the least
Jim chose him, as a "better version" of himself. Jim was a pure genius, but incredibly modest.
For all of you who love the song as much as I do: Listen to "Für Sarah" ("For Sarah").
ua-cam.com/video/2cS8PPJ-e_E/v-deo.html
It's beautiful song from the Tanz der Vampire musical for which Steinmein wrote all the music! :)
ua-cam.com/video/Bshg8KSj4xU/v-deo.html Steinman used parts of this song in his Tanz der Vampire/Dance of the vampires musical.
This is actually from the Jim Steinman Andrew Lloyd Webber musical whistle down the wind
I do love how Steinman reworks sections for other things. Its that Musical background at work, with refrains and bits reappearing :)
Inspiring, but rather than storming the Vaults of Heaven, I'm ready to dust off Battle Axe, Grab my Viking Helmet, and storming that office that keeps calling me about extended car warranties!
Rory Dodd could sing a little bit, eh?
Interesting. It sounds nothing like the Toms Jones version in Whistle Down The Wind with Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Rory was better than Meat... why the hell didn't he get big?
One of the great wonders of the world.
No
Its hard to get much bigger than Meat Loaf in the 70s. He was over 300 pounds...
yesd love meatloaf but rory is genius rory has appered on bat out hell backing singer too karla de viitto also
@@MLBFCollection You can say it out loud my friend
Wish he had at least released this track with Meat Loaf it would have been epic
Meat loaf he isn’t
Thanks God
For which we are all thankful - RD is a much better singer than ML ever was.
We can all be very happy that he isn't - Rory is a far better vocalist than ML ever was.
Was that Jimmy on the piano?
Yes.
@@spacepunk2001 Thought so - he had such characteristic style. I really miss him... :(
