- "Gotta Be Another Way" (composed by Genevieve Artadi and Louis Cole) is one of the earlier compositions of the independent electronic music duo "KNOWER". WDR BIG BAND principal conductor Bob Mintzer wrote a fresh big band arrangement for Johan Hörlén on alto saxophone and himself on tenor saxophone. Produced in May 2019 at WDR Studio 4 / Cologne.

The one who edited the video definitely watched some Knower/Louis Cole videos.
It's a good chance to user the features in Premier that no one ever uses (except Louis COle).
He probably edited the video
Johannes Imort did the video editing 6:29 ... He edits a lot of videos for the WDR Big Band.
Definitely true! But I found the editing missed the mark a fair bit, too many disorienting zooms and shakes and the glitch effect really didn't work for me. I like seeing the interplay between the musicians, and I think this editing focused a bit too much on individual performances without giving a good enough sense of space. The first bari (?) sax solo, it seemed like he was just isolated in his own room, not sure if there's any connection between him and Louis! Overall great music and decent editing though, just a bit off.

The fact that we're watching this for free on UA-cam is incredible. I hope Louis Cole tours, because I'd give him everything in my bank account just to be in the room for a session like this.
Uiii, hopefully in the near future concert projects will be possible again, - then you can attend live sessions again. We are all waiting for it!🙃
its not free. its a publicly funded orchestra. so the german taxpayer pays for it. one of the better occasions they use it for though. the money i mean.

Oh my God! I will never understand why I did not know anything about KNOWER til ten days ago. Now I'm changing all my perspectives about music.
I saw Louis Cole live a couple of weeks ago. I’ve never seen someone enjoy themselves on stage more than Genevieve. She was jumping and dancing around the stage with the biggest grin on her face. It was an absolute delight and managed to elevate an already mindblowing concert. Looking forward to following them into the future!

I didn't know Bob Mintzer was involved in the WDR big band, but as a big Yellowjackets fan who is going through a serious Louis Cole phase, this is definitely tight.

I am not much of a jazz guy but I too am in a serious Louis Cole phase, which has led to a Snarky Puppy phase, which for a guy with a Taylor acoustic guitar and a songlist of Eagles-Beatles-James Taylor is like being abducted by aliens -- really, really musical aliens. I did not know Bob Mintzer was in the Yellowjackets, which I also listened to some time back, but then again I know jack shit about jazz. This stuff is amazing. And Genevieve is a force of nature.
Mintzer did the arrangements for this band on organist/singer Ricky Peterson's guest spot last year as well. They covered Prince's Sexy MF.

Wow, never in my wildest dreams did I expect to see Louis playing with a) this big band or b) Bob Mintzer (one of my favorite tenor players). Leave it to European cultural sensibility (specifically the German Govt who support this band) to appreciate the beauty, creativity and originality of this combination.

So much hard work, technical skill and performance discipline. I think Louis Cole's face expresses everything there is in this music. The german big band plays with cybernetic precision and fantasy.

Ich habe schon vor Jahren meinen Fernseher abgeschafft, weil gute Live-Musik im Fernsehen ausgestorben ist. Warum ist nicht wenigstens die WDR-Bigband gebührend oft im WDR-Fernsehen zu sehen? So wie ich von Leuten höre, die noch fernsehen, kommt das viel zu selten vor. Jeder gibt seinen RundFUNKbeitrag. Also, WDR, zeigt die Band viel öfter. Viel zu schade, sie nur im Studio verstecken. Die muss im Prime-Time Programm zu sehen sein. Und eine eigene, regelmäßige Sendung bekommen.

THIS IS ONE OF THE COOLEST COLLABORATIONS I HAVE SEEN THIS YEAR! Knower's original studio recording was great techno-pop and a terrific song but this is something completely beyond that. Jazz and pop blending into pure sophistication with solo artistry. There is a lot of talent in this recording.

SP's horn section is much smaller than this one. Much easier to be tight. Also, their tempos are usually slower.
Lingus is alot of fun, though, agreed.
Check out Cory Wong and the Wongnotes channel. There is no tighter horn section than The Hornheads. The horn arrangements are just out of this world.

I know Knower, I know Bob Mintzer, naturally I know WDR. WHAT A FUSION! Knower was famous and well known already at the time of the recording. But for me, they looked young post-graduates, facing the professional players first time. They looked so serious in front of the great players, and they performed best. What a phenomenal recording, isn't it?

Chills, most badass brass arrangement/playing I have heard in years, framing the genius of LC and GA! It's hard to believe music this good exists in relative obscurity while the crap that sells millions is so musically infantile.
Louis is such a friggin genius and I have a soft spot when the composer is also shredding on an instrument, just feels more connected, like he could have highered a sick drummer but his approach and attack is soo specific. Absolutely love this video❤❤❤
