- In this video we show you how to change the rear wheel on a Vespa PX by leaning it against a wall.
This technique requires the scooter to have a stand in good condition, undamaged steering stops and a standard exhaust. Should you have an aftermarket sports exhaust this will need to be removed before changing the wheel.
To save scuffs and scratches to the engine gear selector, you should place some padding underneath to protect it. In this case we used some plastic shopping bags.
If the scooter is difficult to push off the road to a safe area, keep the engine running and use the clutch and fist gear to maneuverer.
It is also a good idea to put the steering lock on before leaning the scooter over.
When removing the spare wheel be sure not to touch the positive terminal on the battery.

It's incredible that such a clever design is non existent these days on modern scooters, no spare and takes ages to remove exhaust etc to swap the wheel.

I always carry a 2x2 x 7 1/2" wooden post with a half circle carved out at the top (where the shocks rest on). But that maneuver is also great. Provided theres a wall nearby.
we sat someone upstairs to unbalance the Vespa forward and then change the tire, but many used this system in reality! :-)

It’s self explanatory the rotation arrows on tyres. If you can’t understand that then you should not be let near anything 😉

You don't need a wall, and you absolutely don't need to lay the scooter on its side. I carry a small homemade screw jack to raise the rear up high enough to remove/install the rear wheel. Notice that when the scooter is on the center stand, the front wheel is off the ground. On mine that gives me enough room to jack up the back. If your front wheel touches the ground or is too close to the ground, carry something to place under each side of the center stand to raise it. Figure this out and make sure it works at home, BEFORE you wind up with a flat out in the middle of nowhere.

Sorry, the question is how to change a wheel of a converted bike, not how to do the conversion itself

this method damages the main stand, it already deforms after a short time with normal usage.
just lean the vespa to a chair/edge with the handlebar, in the back it sits on the gear box selector

The wheel change demonstrated is for quick and easy roadside repair where usually there are no "chairs " available

@@pradaman307 first, dear unknown, be nice and respectfull to everyone in life, even to people who dont know how to behave properly. This pays back. Always. Second. Edges to. Lean a scooter on, are not only at a chair but everywhere. Just open your eyes and look around :) might be a small wall, or a pavement edge, or. Park bench. Look around You will amazed how many edges life offers, and imagine that. Totally for free!!! 😄😉👍🍻

why not just buy one of those cheap engine stands which fit around the back of the engine and raise the back a wheel a couple of cms??????

Nope ... not in a month. Main stand can bend as can the floor. Prop it forward using a shock stand.
