    Hi Kelvin. So what I understand is that the 1uzfe vvti motor uses the small afm (almost look like the Toyota 1gr) not the big cone tipe. My motor was installed with the big one.

  • @youngsairgunsa
    @youngsairgunsa 6 місяців тому

    Hey kelv hello from Thailand, do you know the reading ranges for each afm? I have a gen 1 and wondering if I can use another type with similar flow ranges? I know the iat sensor should be more or less the same but the afm sensor may or may not be different.
    Or is it just cheaper to replace it? They are so old the chances are any 2nd hand ones are already stuffed?

    Quick question from 1996 sc400 owner. I'm looking at custom air intake and it appears that, the ECU will go to a factory base setting if the MAF is removed. I've heard that adjusting the TPS 2 clicks counter clockwise and disconnecting the MAF will improve performance/HP. PS I'm in the USA and have no emission testing and not concerned about check engine light.

      Ive seen guys running no MAF on stock ecu and they have no idea how good a well setup UZ goes with a correctly working MAF. Removing the MAF drops power. Adjustment of the TPS does not fix this. Cheers Kelvin

      @@CartuneNZ Actually, my UZ is pulling hard through all RPM's on stock tune: full back exhaust w/ headers/custom intake, port matched upper and lower intake/head ported(intake only), hydro fan delete, EGR delete and water meth inj. I just read this offers power gains and questioned this myself, so reached out to u guys for better understanding...thanks!

    Hey kev i just bought a series one AFM from china for about $50 bucks and plugged it in and it still sucks, it feels like its on a fuel limiter and then afterwards gives you full throttle, have you had any experience with these? Currently running with the MAF unplugged so im at a loss right now

    Hey I have a question!
    I have a 1995 SC400 non-vvti 1uzfe and I’m planning on turboing it soon but I wanted to know what to do with the MAF sensor. Is there a way to delete it ? I was planning on running low boost 5-7 PSI (Single Turbo) and I have a Apex neo AFC that I got from a friend. I’ve seen some stuff about MAF adapters and what not but I’ve seen many other turbo set ups that don’t have MAF sensors or are deleted but many people are running standalone ecu. If you can help me out I’d appreciate it a ton !

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  5 років тому +1

      Any ecu needs some kind of load sensor, whether it is a MAF or MAP sensor or its tuned with TPS as a load signal. I generally go aftermarket as then I use a MAP sensor and tuning is easy. Cheers.

      Did you watch the video and see there are different AFM? Which one do you have? which wires are you testing? I dont normally test with resistance, I use voltage on hotwire units or frequency on the early ones

      @@CartuneNZ it’s the karmon with the photo cell ...1992 ls400 (USD) I have the factory manual but the range isn’t too specific. But I did swap out with a reman but the reman did the same thing. Starts up fine idles fine then when hit the accelerator it falls out and drops the 31 code. I think I will have to check the Ecu and compare the readings to the manual. Thank you for replying. The reman however does have a wire it looks like they added it though through the plastic. Mine is all plastic and you don’t see any wire.

    I have an original karman-vortex mass airflow sensor on my Lexus SC400 1uz Fe. Evidently it cannot be clean with mass air flow cleaner.I went to the auto shop and they had a Beck and Yardley for $419 with the bass and the sensor but I don't know that it's a karman-vortex do you have any suggestions.I know you said to go to Toyota DYI and order it but I haven't checked those prices yet but I will. The car has the original Fuji MAF. Only has a hundred and Thirty-One thousand miles on it which is great but it is 26 years old.

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  2 роки тому +1

      Toyodiy is a parts number system, nothing is able to be ordered there.
      If I diagnose a karman vortex afm as stuffed then cleaning cant make it fail, but cleaning it may fix it. We see quite a few very dirty units and I clean them, carefully. Best to view the possible replacement as per the video the difference is pretty easy to tell. Cheers

      I bought one of those cans of CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner and it said not to use it on the Lexus and one said even especially the 1uz Fe. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us out here who are not so knowledgeable.I've just read that it could ruin it and although it's really messing up bad since it's the only one I got since I've ordered two that didn't work I was worried but I'll give it a try thank you.

      @@CartuneNZ it's still barely works for now the problem is I can't even see a filament it's just a slit in the plastic running from the top to bottom and at the bottom 1/4 inch rectangle with a piece of plastic over it, I can't even see a filament to clean on the sensor. Thanks for your help and advice. I'll keep plugging that it.other parts they say that will fit it have wires and filaments on the outside that aren't even protected or a wire filament that I can clearly see from the side. Thank you. May try to get in touch with you in a few weeks or whenever this gives out about this Beckk and Yardley piece for $412.if you could leave a way I can order from Toyota or look at their stuff that would be helpful. Have a good one. 👍. Since you're a busy man running your own shop and helping us dummies out hereforget that last part unless I come back begging I'll try to find my own Toyota place here in the US I'm not good with computers or phones but I should able be able to that. 👍

      When I use a gen 2 wiring loom on a gen 1 engine I always use the matching gen 2 afm , ignitors and ensure engine has correct injectors. Then they run correctly.

    Hey Kelvin.
    Here in the states, the MAF for the Gen 1 1UZ Non-VVTi is discontinued by Toyota/Lexus and is unavailable for purchase. Do you know of any quality aftermarket sensors, or should I just try to gather sensors from salvage yards/dismantlers?
    Or if the sensors are available brand new out there in NZ, are you able to ship to the states?

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  2 роки тому +3

      Same here, new are discontinued, so we are using tested secondhand units.
