I think the cherry on the top would be the Stanley Parable's achievement "Unachievable" description: "It is impossible to get this achievement"
Fun fact: The developer kept on changing the way that you get this achievement just so it was harder for the community to crack it!

The Army of Two and Chromehounds ones are just proof that achievements that have an online component should never be added, especially when the games require servers that are likely to be shut down 4-5 years after the game's release.
After server shut downs devs should make online games peer-to-peer. Yes, the experience isn't great, but at least it's better than having an unplayable game

Maybe if a PC version gets released, there's a chance that you'll get the achievement. Sure it isn't on Xbox, but you can say "I have the achievement that was once impossible!"

Oblithian Same with multiplayer only or multiplayer exclusive games like Battlefront. When those servers eventually shut down, everyone who bought Battlefront will be left holding a $60 bookend since there won't be anything for them to do with it once the servers are shut down. That's why fans were begging for Instant Action to be added to the game so they could at least keep playing even after the servers are shut down.
In the PC game Dungeons of Dredmor there is an achievement called Sewer Brew which requires you to have a drink in real life with the developers. Good luck getting that achievement.

Yeah, the Army of Two one reminded me of the exercise game with a similar system of going through their website to get an achievement - that site now replaced with an advert for the new exercise game instead. Blooming EA.

@@TheBritt2001 Just started recently playing Mass Effect 3. There's one War Asset you can acquire by playing the mobile game, Mass Effect Infiltrator. Which would be fine, except that had already removed that game from all online stores. Why? Who the fuck knows! I know it can't be for any monetary reason. So you can't get that. But I'm waiting for the moment that the N7 HQ site disappears off the internet, and they also decide to stop supporting the multiplayer servers, which means the 'readiness' rating in-game is stuck at 50%.
The achievements are nothing, they only affect some number on your online profile that absolutely no one else is looking at. The Mass Effect 3 stuff actually affects the single-player campaign.
In summation: fuck EA!

What about "MUSIC FAN" from Space Invaders: Infinity Gene on Xbox 360?
To get this achievement, you need to play music mode 10 times, however music mode uses playlists stored on the Xbox 360 hard drive and it's impossible to do that on the Xbox 360 right now, so this achievement is impossible on Xbox 360.
EA is notorious for charging full price for online-only games... only to shut down the servers required to play those games.
I guarantee you, and will bet any amount of money, that in a couple years Star Wars: Battlefront will be unplayable.

The hardest achievement that is at least theoretically possible to get is probably EU4's Three Mountain Achievement. Europa Universalis 4 is a Paradox Grand strategy game taking place in 1445-1840 as real world countries, which means it is slightly more complicated than landing on the Moon. The game is hard enough when your playing a large European power such as England or France, particularly if you want to conquer the entire planet.
You have to deal with near constant rebels, every other nation on Earth hating your war mongering, RNG shitting on you at the worst of times, and other such issues, but to get the Three Mountain Achievement you must take over the world as a tiny island nation (which starts out with the worst economy, and one of the worst tech groups and religions in the game) on the no save scumming/cheating allowed "Ironman" mode. The only one who has gone on record and done it had to squeeze out every single exploit he could, all of which were promptly patched.

Sonya Lappin Well, this is much more fun, isn't it? If the achievement is glitched and either abandoned or going to be fixed later, it's not a big deal. Not much to talk about, really. But the Three Mountains... oh man, that's a real Achievement. And, by the way, it might as well be impossible - I don't think there has been anyone who managed it in the recent five or so patches. Many people on the forums say that it is literally impossible to do, and the devs haven't said anything about that. But at least it's not because the game is simply broken, like most of the examples here.
notbobby125 Play Hearts of Iron 3, the most complicated game in the 3 Grand Strategies: EU4 is least, than Vicky II, and then HoI3. Try very Hard mode without cheats and controlling everything by yourself, including Diplomacy, production, Intelligence, and Technology while conquering the world. No achievement too! D:

I have the 16 max level shops, every wall is covered in paintings, I have roofs over beds, I have a equal amount of food and water, and a 260 defence level. All that and the only step left is to stand for hours, but I won't do that any time soon.
+Laser kitten I got this achievement. Although comparatively it was the hardest in the game, it's totally doable. All that matters is a bit of extra Food and Water, a lot of extra Defense, and most importantly, plenty of Shops. To be specific, Surgery Centers generate more Happiness than anything else. So, have every citizen at a Surgery Center except for the few you need to gather Food. (Note: if you need money for Surgery Centers, remember you can delete your other Shops and get back half the caps. Before butchering your Settlement though, save beforehand so you can restore it once you get the achievement.) Also, remember your Population Cap is based on your Charisma, so use Clothing and Stims to temporarily raise your Charisma so you can have the maximum number of Citizens. I haven't played the game in a while, but I believe the formula for Population Cap for an individual Settlement is your current Charisma + 10. Once you have all these things set up, place a bell and a bed in your Settlement. Ring the bell to call all your Citizens together (they are more happy when they are close to you,) then use the bed and rest. Keep alternating between ringing the bell and resting for a few hours at a time until you get 100 Happiness. Good luck!
It's impossible to 100% on AC4. I was at 99%, and all I had to do was get to a chest, once I opened it, I still was at 99%. Apparently to get 100%, I needed to find a Tavern in Kingston, which does not exist.

There was an achievement in Assassin's Creed: Revelations that required 100% game completion. There was a glitch in one of the patches that didn't allow the game to register once you've created all types of bombs. But all you had to do was uninstall the update and do it from there and you were good👍🏼
How do you uninstall a update from a downloaded game?

Getting the "Ultimate Collector" Achievement in Lost Planet 2 was REALLY impossible.You have to own all Nicknames, but for the Nickname "World Champion" you had to... well... be the first in the complete multiplayer ranking, or score a world record in training mode.
I once played a game (I forgot what it was called) where the 60th achievement was to get 60 achievements. Unfortunately, being the achievement hunter I am, I had to finish with only 59. This fabled 60th haunts me every night.

In Halo 3, there is an achievement for winning your first online match, if you mess that up, you cant get the achievement ever again. There were also achievements that required you to play on certain dates, back in 2007 i think
I just looked at the achievements for Halo 3 and I can confirm that you don't know what you're talking about. There is no achievement for winning your first online match, and no achievement requires you to play on a specific date in 2007. There is a achievement that requires you to play on the 7th day of the 7th month though. However, it doesn't refer to 2007.

+Sh4dowWalker96 No Xbox Live is just the online aspect of Xbox the system does not control achievements as it is hard coded into the game themselves and have nothing to do with Microsoft. The game developers would have to release a patch to fix the game as it's part of the games code and has no input from Xbox live besides showing you your gamerscore and detecting that your online for certain achievements.

On my first playthrough of Dishonored I killed NOBODY and I was very stealthy (Being the Stealthy gamer I am) And I almost got the f*cking ghost achievement BUT THEN I realized that sometimes i threw the guards unconcious bodies into water drowning them...
F*ck my life! And to this day that achievement haunts me! And sometimes on quiet nights I could hear the Ba-dunk Xbox achievement unlocked noise...

It's not impossible but the Go Outside achievement for Stanley Parable is probably going to be something few people have since it requires you not to play the game for 5 years.

Yeah it forces people to buy the game at launch. But even then, look at the new tomb raider. I LOVE tomb raider games and I will never platinum it because there just isn't anyone playing online because it's a flat out trash multiplayer.

If I ever get into game design, I'm gonna make an evil achievement.
I'll put in the option to listen to a long video tutorial (interactive so you HAVE to watch it) that runs for maybe five minutes. At the very end, you get an achievement (maybe something like "Self Torture") and are prompted with "listen to tutorial again?"
If you don't hit yes within a certain amount of time, you lose your chance at another achievement (respectively called "Button Mashing"). Hit "yes", earn the achievement and go through the tutorial again. If you watch the tutorial five times in a row, you earn the achievement "Slow Learner" and a huge amount of gamer points.

Me personally, I would have the player try to find in a round room the croissant in the corner. (Ah Penulitimo from Tropico 5) No, what I'd really do is have the player race through a 1 hour dungeon within 30 min, take no damage, no teleporting, and have to listen to a 90's guide to the internet and make it interactive.

Pay It Forward and BFA from Darksiders II. When THQ and Vigil Games went under, they took the servers with them. And with them went the achievement for sending an item to a friend who also had the game, as well as the achievement for unlocking everything else. Supposedly they were put back up for a while, but then taken down again, making these achievements once again unobtainable.
I have a Game Boy Emulator on my phone and with it came Pokemon Emerald. I have a Kadabra on my main team, and in order fir Kadabra to evolve, I need to trade it. The thing is that I can't trade it because again, it's on an Emulator. That coupled with the assumption a Legendary or two came from Events, I can safely say that I can never catch 'em all.

I know of one that is some what impossible. It's still slightly possible but unlikely. The game is called Gmod, and this one achievement is called "Yes, I am the real Garry!", and to get it, you must play on the same server as Garry, the creator.
chromehounds was amazing when the servers were up. probably have more hours put into that game than any other... maybe skyrim.
I was expecting The Stanley Parable's "Unachievable" achievement which is literally impossible to get. There used to be a way by using the console in the game and entering a command but that has been patched leaving the achievement impossible.
Edit: I have since got the achievement by reverse engineering the game, I felt bad doing it because the developer disagrees with that. Oh well. :\

I think because that one is technically possible to get if you try hard enough. The achievements in this video are literally impossible, no matter how good you are at the game.

This achievement is not impossible, but close to it. There is an achievement for Garry's Mod called "Yes, I am the real Garry!" Where you have to play on the same server as Garry (I think is the developer of the game). There is a very slim chance you can get this achievement.

Need for Speed Pro Street: Online servers shut down
Band Hero: All multiplayer achievements (nobody else owns this game I am assuming)
Need For Speed Undercover (3 glitched achievements: Notorious, Among the Best, and First of Many)

Im not a CoD try hard, do not judge me just because I cant complete 4-5 stupid missions on one of the worst CoD games to date.
***** COD 4 all achievements.......The worst agony of gaming I remember from childhood.........but reward well worth it. Especially when you have OCD plus you are a completionist.

For Swtor, There's a couple of achievements such as They removed a certain NM operation that I don't remember the name of, then there's the one for Eternity Vault 8-man Story Mode, Yeah Suprise! It's glitched even when you defeat the Infernal Council

I get more frustrated by games that just give away achievments. Avatar gives you 1000G in the first 5 minutes, GTA V gives you 5G just for going online. Its lazy development.

Oh this was about achievements that you can't get... at all. I was thinking about extremely f*cking challenging achievements like one from Infinite Undiscovery which you get for beating the Ethereal Queen on Infinity Mode (the hardest mode in the game) who is already a b*tch to kill on easy let alone normal hard or god forbid Infinity.
On normal with your team at its highest level... she one-shots ALL OF THEM. Now take your awesome amounts of damage, add Infinity Mode and watch the numbers plummet down from hundreds of thousands to tens of thousands for average monsters, just thousands for mini-bosses, hundreds for regular bosses, and tens for the Ethereal Queen... who has over 2 million hp.
If you did manage to somehow do this near impossible achievement then you were awarded with the single hardest earned 1GP ever concieved.
Skate 3 has the same problem Army of Two has with the whole EA re-directing you to another page so you can't make a design and get an achievement.

There's also the Audi R8 from midnight club La - since the servers have been taken down, you are unable to play online which renders your chances of getting that car to impossible as it can only be acquired through online.
You know what would be fun? The entire Halo campaign on Legendary... without dying. If you die, you must restart the whole campaign from the beginning.

an example would be in Sonic and the Secret Rings there's a leveling up system and once you reach a certain level you'll be rewarded a skill and one of 'em is Hyper High-Step, usually the High-Step, Super High-Step and Mega High-Step improve Sonic's handling from left to right , essentially making turning left and right smoother, but Hyper High-Step makes Sonic TOO responsive and you'll most likely end up falling towards your doom

It was the worst Army of Two ever.
I remember renting that Rayman Raving Rabbids game. It was pretty much solely a collection of minigames, like Mario Party but without the main game. and while all the mini games were "beatable", the vast majority were exceedingly difficult, or even possible to get the "gold" ranking, like the standards were just set too high, and I'm pretty sure a Tool assist wouldnt be able to beat some of them. Glad I never have to see that game again. :)

This one might just be insanely difficult instead of impossible, but the "Man vs. Tank" achievement for Left 4 Dead one and two does seem to be impossible because either you have to be in a game with three people who aren't going to screw you out of it, kill all of your teammates and survive a fight with a tank (most likely during a horde of zombies coming out of the woodwork for some survivor pie) or you have to get an improbable game glitch like my cousin did.
He was playing Blood Harvest on Left 4 Dead one, and he was at the final scene, where you have to hold out at the farm house and wait for help to arrive. The thing about that scene is, you have to wait for two separate instances of tanks to show up. (For the uninitiated, they're huge, bulky special infected that can flip cars with a backhand. They're the strongest in the game, and are really hard to beat by yourself.) I suggested he wait in the closet in the front hall and bottleneck the zombies (because he was also going for "Unbreakable" where you don't get healed through the entire campaign). He and the 3 AIs were taking out a horde, when the tank music popped up. He waited for the tank to come in, content to leave it to the AIs so he could get his achievement. He sat there for a few minutes, and the whole house was rumbling and he could hear the tank growling, but he couldn't see it.
Taking a small risk (because the game wouldn't trigger the escape vehicle unless the tank was dead), he stepped outside, and discovered that the tank had spawned on the roof. It couldn't get down because of some invisible barriers. Another thing about Tanks is that they have to come and attack survivors, because they get weaker and weaker the longer they are just out and about. (You see this in multiplayer versus.)
He took a single shot at it with an AK-47, and it died, getting him the achievement.
I actually did this in a match because when the tank appeared it immediately hit a car and took out all three of my teammates and I ended up running from it for a good 2 minutes before I killed it with my hunting rifle. It was pretty funny actually.
Kill your friends kill the tank solo! Thats how i did it!

It's easy indeed, just get the mutation with unlimited machine guns and spray away. Set it to expert at the start so you can kill the AI, then switch back to easy.
I got it when i was with my friend on expert actually. it didn't glitch but we got lucky. he team killed the two AI's and was just sitting back in the safe room, where he just teabagged their corpses the whole time. when i went ahead i ran into the tank. Instinctively, i threw a molotov on it, turned around and ran. By the time it caught up to us the fire killed it and none of us fired a bullet so i got the achievement.
In hf2 there is an archivement that requires you to finish Ravenholm only with the Gravitygun EQUIPPED. But during the mission there will be a reverent, that gives you a shotgun which you'll automaticly equip.

Army of two was great, It got better from 1 to 2, but I THINK that bastard child Devil's Cartel was made by a different team....which doesn't really excuse it being bad...
this was.. underwhelming. there is a difference between insanely hard to get stuff, that no one is good enough to get and broken stuff. its like makeing a list of games, you will not be able to play and then just post a list of games, that never got a release instead of a list with games, that had obscure accidents that swallowed every disc. dunno, I expected something different then broken mechanics that prevent you from getting it

Lemon Meister yes. but that doesnt mean they are unobtainble trough bugs or offline servers. a achievment you will never get could be a BF 3 achievement to get 10 headshots over 2km in 20seconds. somethings can be so difficult, that you cant get them or 0,01% of the players have them. like the here in the vid that some people do have because they got it before the problems appeard.

JoeWright30 i didnt know how to word it, so what im trying to say might come off, as you say 'stupid'. what i meant was what you have to do to achieve some of these achievements isnt impossible, but its just the achievement itself that is impossible to get. that probably wasnt much clearer but thats the best ive got

I actually enjoyed it, because besides all the bad stuff, it's not a bad game, the soundtrack is AMAZING, and using some of the glitches to get to other levels as other characters was cool. This however, was back when by brother bought it for me when I was 6, so, I didn't realize how it sucked, and as usual, skipped the cutscenes lol

In fable 2 the chicken suit for the fowl player achievement could only be unlock in game by going to the fable website be the site is shut down so you can only get it by seeing a another player who already has it before Lionhead closed down over Xbox live perform the requirement to get the achievement.
Phantom dust for the original Xbox. One of the achievements was win 100 online matches in a row. There was another achievement for killing your opponent while they were in mid air from a very specific card that was gained by winning 25 matches in a row.
Homefronts' online achievements should be on this, for being such a great game that met an unfortunate end.

Naruto: Rise of a Ninja. The MP part was still running, but noone was playing and you couldn't finish the tournament (you had to fight 10 people if I remember correctly and they had to be on same "rank", when you turned it off or lost, you had to start from the begining)
There was one for world of tanks where you had to cause an enemy artillery to kill one of his teammates with friendly fire but they took away friendly fire and now you can't get it. Don't know if it's still in the achievements anymore
I was expecting a list of genuinely difficult achievements, not glitched or completely unobtainable ones due to online services being disabled.
