Whether it's achievements that require you to play the game on specific dates, or for a certain period or even one that requires you to negotiate with a shady cartel of players who have locked out the top of the leaderboard, these are the sort of achievements that require a great big pinboard covered in pictures and string just to keep track of your progress. That's going to look real incriminating if you're ever framed for murder.

What about the Stanley Parables "Go Outside" achievement; Which description says "Don't play the Stanley Parable for five years". That will take some serious long term planning.
nah... it only takes a good memory to remember why you didnt play it since X Amount of time... you don't have to plan to log in at date X or so you do not really have to plan it... itt doenst matter if you log in after 5 years and 3 months or after exactly five years

Change the time, the REAL achievement is "Dedication" for playing the entirety of a tuesday, no time changing, just playing for tuesday, you can leave it on though.

Of course she poisons her own too. To prepare for this plot, years ago she started taking non-lethal amounts of the poison, gradually increasing the dosage and hardening her against its effects. So now she's immune and can safely poison all the fruit baskets (and fruit) in the world without any risk to herself.
You know, that bit about the fruit baskets got me thinking: who pays you guys? Jane seems like a criminal mastermind, but there's no way Mike and Andy actually *work* for her. My current theory is you accidentally (or intentionally) summoned some Lovecraftian horror who controls you with the power of fruit baskets.
LOL. I had to watch this for my son's 5 seconds of fame... he is the #1 on the leaderboard for Quake in the seventh achievement of this video.

I'm sure a large portion of the people who still play GMod have had that achievement for years.
"Emperor!" for Elder Scrolls Online is a pretty insane achievement, in that you have to be in the faction which owns all the territory around the Imperial City (which is a rarity) and then be the highest ranking player within that faction which requires almost 24/7 gameplay during the month/campaign if you wish to beat other achievement hunters ~ this would also only happen if the current Emperor falls down the rankings below yourself. It truly is a full-time job... but then you'd expect that from an Emperor...
Back when the game first launched, Zenimax said that they were interested in interviewing people who obtained the Emperor rank... this surely must point out how rare and prestigious this achievement was and still is... as of writing this comment only 0.07% of players on the Xbox One own this achievement, insane.
You're kinda describing it wrong. You need to be on the top of the leader board for your alliance when the emperor is crowned, after the 6th keep is captured. Important difference, if you reach the top of the leaderboard after the keeps are captured and while your alliance currently has emp, you still don't get it. I've known people who spent days, even weeks, at the top of the leader board but never got emp because the other alliances couldn't dethrone a previous leader.
I was going to mention this achievement myself before I saw you mention it. It's even harder to obtain now, that there are fewer campaigns and they've changed pvp. I got this in the first year when my guild had a pretty simple formula for getting it. Find a non-red emp weekly campaign when the campaign resets. Farm AP by taking one of yellow's home keeps, then just having the player going for emp get the D ticks...when that player reaches 50K, take the 6 inner keeps. We were a strong, very organized pvp guild and almost always had the leaderboards full of our members for at least the first few days of one of the campagins, and could flip the non-haderus campaigns almost at will. this enabled us to pass emp to guildmates. It didn't work all of the time, it took two tries to get it for me, and even the second try was one of the harder ones as there was one guy who knew how to get AP like no one else that was actively trying to prevent me from getting. It actually took a deal between our guild and the main yellow guild defending the keeps for me to finally get it. That went on for about 2 months, we crowned 48 different emps in that time. But then we started getting the attention of bigger yellow guilds, and no matter where we went, 2 or 3 of the games toughest guilds soon followed. The competition was still a lot of fun, but it made it incredibly hard to flip campaigns, so we became less about crowning emps and more about just winning battles.
And I also point out that you have to be on the top of the leaderboards when emp is crowned shortly after the 6th keep is taken because one of my friends got crowned by the narrowest of margins. We had been up all night playing, and my friend and the other guy were neck and neck the entire time, so much so that neither wanted to take the final keep because they couldn't be sure that they wouldn't lose the lead while trying to take it. But then at around 7 in the morning, another group that wasn't us or the other guy at the top started taking the 6th keep. My friend and I joined in, even though he wasn't at the top of the leaderboards. Since we were there and the other guy wasn't, the tick he got for taking the keep put him up by 214 AP, and he got crowned emperor. That was one of the craziest nights I've ever had in the game.
Dead by Daylight's "Where Did They Go?" achievement. It requires super rare add-ons, complete cooperation from each survivor, and if you aren't playing with a team of friends, it's next to impossible.
there's an achievement in half life 2 where you literally carry a lawn gnome from basically the first level to THE END OF THE GAME then shoot it into space on a rocket, not like catty it in your inventory, no, a physical prop that you pick up and hovers in front of you the whole game. You have to load it up into your crap vehicles and pray to God it stays there while a helicopter shoots you with missiles. You have to kill bosses while protecting it.

Assassin of Greed no he means half life 2, when valve *dev of both games* put it in left for dead 2 it was a nod to the tedious gnome mission in HL2, where yes instead of the entire game from the point you find it, in the LFD2 mission it's just to the end of that particular mission
Assassin of Greed and I'm sure he knows what he's talking about, and I'm not sure you know left for dead 2 all that well cause you dknt get shot at by helicopters, you don't drive, there arnt really bosses *because tanks are a single enemy the re occurs* and deffinatley nothing gets shot into space

I went for Bladder of Steel with a friend. We were 65 songs in when his brother wanted to play for a bit and paused it. We didn't even finish the setlist.
Easy way to pass it: just turn on "no failing" and always pick vocals. Just push the button periodically to continue to the next song. Go to the bathroom while the songs are playing.

The easter egg achievments from Call of Duty Zombie Mode were really hard and required many specific steps, teamwork, timing and communication. I remember spending many hours looking up guides and trying to do the easter eggs several times. And I also remember how satisfying it was to having completed them and letting people see that you did those hard achievments.

Hah - oh boy you have no idea. Where do I even start with this?
Okay, here goes. I'm guessing oxbox don't care about PC games from ten years ago so this won't make the commenter edition, but Guild Wars had an achievement called 'Legendary Defender of Ascalon', which required you to get to max level in the tutorial area of the game. The catch? You could only gain experience from killing stuff if it was within a couple of levels of you, and there weren't enough quests to gain XP from, so it was literally impossible to gain enough XP to reach max level while still in Ascalon. *However*...
Whether by accident or by an act of foresight as ingenious as it was diabolical, the developers had left an opening - in the structure of the game they released two years before they added titles - by which players could gain become a Legendary Defender of Ascalon. For a price. You see, not only did you gain experience from killing enemies, the mechanics of the game worked exactly the same way when enemies killed you. Someone must have been mind-bogglingly bad at the game to find this out, but if the monsters killed you enough times they would level up.
So all you had to do was get killed by a monster, resurrect, go back and get killed again, and you'd have an enemy of a high enough level to grant you experience for killing it. Well, sort of. See, death levelling an enemy like this (yes, this was enough of a thing for there to be a term for it), required hundreds, even thousands of deaths. And to prevent spawn killing there were no enemies anywhere near the resurrection shrines.
So unless you wanted to personally take your character back to the enemy after every single death, you had to lure the enemies to the resurrection shrine. Unfortunately, the enemy AI had fixed aggro ranges and fixed pathing that meant that simply running over and waving your tasty behind in the monster's face wouldn't be enough to budge them from their position for long. In order to lure them all the way to the resurrection shrine, you had to painstakingly use the terrain to mess up their pathing enough that the AI would get confused, and gradually drag them back towards the right spot (often only for them to run all the way back to their original position when you were almost there).
Once you had them at the resurrection shrine, though, you could leave your character to die hundreds of times over, resurrecting automatically only to be killed again, thereby levelling up the enemies. Hopefully there is no computer version of Toy Story going on here and our game avatars aren't secretly sentient, because in that case leaving your character trapped in this living hell was probably a bit unkind. However, after maybe 6-8 hours of this you could come back and kill your newly strengthened enemies and reap that sweet, sweet experience.
Of course, having levelled up your enemies were now super-powered versions of their former selves, but slowly whittling down their health as you continued to die over and over again was the easy part.
And you'd have to go through this cycle several dozen times before you could finally claim your Legendary Defender of Ascalon title. In all, it only took about a month - running the death levelling continuously day and night - to reach the title. If you had a spare computer you were laughing (except for the half an hour per 6 - 8 hour cycle it took to get the enemies into position, of course). If you didn't have a spare computer... well, it was an excellent time to catch up on your reading.
Well, that *is* a lot of planning, not least because it's just one title that didn't even bring any in-game buffs.
Except it's not just one title. Titles were more of an end game thing - you got one for completing each campaign, for example. And if you collected several titles, you would get titles for that too.
And if you wanted to get the highest title-collecting title, the one for collecting thirty other titles, the greatest title attainable in Guild Wars (named 'God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals'; if anything, the name undersells it. Gods in Guild Wars were probably less dangerous than a player with this title), you needed the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title. Well, that's not entirely true - there were others you could substitute, but they were actually even more insanely difficult to get to the point where it was basically next to impossible (not that that ever stopped hardcore GW players).
So at some point a lot of people, having spent hundreds of hours building towards 'God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals' must have realised that they were on 29/30 titles and could really, *really* use Legendary Defender Of Ascalon. Unfortunately, once you'd left the tutorial area you could never go back. There was never going to be any chance that the developers would patch the game to bring in a convenient boat/portal/rideable dragon that would take you back to the tutorial area. The developers were *really* thorough about cutting off that possibility: you didn't just move to a different area once you opted to complete the tutorial. Ascalon got obliterated by magic nukes, and you began the game proper in the ashen post apocalyptic wasteland that had once been its green, rolling hills.
So planning for later efforts to get GWAMM was a big reason for getting Legendary Defender of Ascalon. But one of the big draws of getting the 'God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals' title in Guild Wars 1 was the promise of sweet rewards and titles in Guild Wars 2. And at the time we're talking about, GW2 had been announced but was still years away from release ( when it finally came it did indeed include rewards and a title for those with the GWAMM title from GW1.)
To be clear, you couldn't just get the other 29 titles on your main character and then create a new character to get Legendary Defender of Ascalon. You had to get all 30 titles on the same character in order to get GWAMM.
*So*, when you first created your character you had to not leave the tutorial area as normal but instead use a loophole in the game's mechanics to level up enemies with your own deaths so you could kill them so you could gain experience over the course of weeks, if not months, so you could reach max level so you could get the Legendary Defender title so you could later get the GW1 God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals title so you could get the GWAMM title in the Guild Wars sequel that wouldn't even come out for several years.
Shame GW2 was a bit crap, really.

I know its PC and Playstation consoles but Hyperdimension neptunia Re;birth 2 sisters generation, "Gamindustris Ultimate Savior". an achievement that REQUIRES you to complete the game 9 different ways with each saves needing different levels on a 5-way ratio balance and getting 100 MILLION credits along with killing the secret boss and levelling all the coupling ranks with every character to the max.
it also requires completing all the real-time dungeon levels which took hours to complete and if failed you lost all your items from it and had to farm them again. and you needed all the oracles and the ability to do 100,000 points of damage in a single battle.
and all characters had to max level too. it results in if completed full at least 250 hours of gameplay for the 9 play through

Yeah i did it on the PC with both re:birth 1 and Re;birth 2 and it took hours, i think 90 hours in one and 140 hours in 2 for all the endings its sooo annoying

When I read the title, my mind jumped more towards the achievements, that required you to play the game in a certain way all through, like Dishonored's "Ghost", "Mostly Flesh and Steel", "Clean Hands" and so on.
What about the achievement on Rock Band Greenday where u had to have a full band and beat the whole game in one sitting! On expert!

The Gnome achievement in HL2:E2, carry a gnome through most of the campaign to another gnome (I forgot the name). I lost it in the mines.
That Payday 2 achievement that unlocks the secret ending is the most insane thing I've ever seen in a video game.
The minecraft Xbox one edition achievement, “great view from up here” took a good amount of planning, I had to get shuckers to teleport to places, and accidentally killed a few in the process

undertakernumberone1 Assuming said game isn't super boring, I imagine remembering not to play a game for five years but ALSO remembering to play it again after those five years would indeed take some serious planning. If you forget partway through I don't think your device would even last long enough to try again lol

Ever done the "only one bullet" achievement challenge? I did and damn, was it killer.
The One Free Bullet wasn't bad. I've done it on both the Xbox's Orange Box and on Steam. Rocket Man was a bit rough as well as finding the grubs without a guide.
The Venom Hoon I've only played l4d2 for a total of like an hour and even I have that achievement.
I can honestly say achieving Bladder of Steel is one of my fondest and epic video gaming moments. As if it isn't bad enough on its own, I did it in co-op with a friend. 6 fucking hours managing each other's insanity and fatigue, awkwardly answering important phone calls, noise complaints from neighbors, making sure batteries don't die, and so on... those were simpler times lol
If I ever make a game, there'll be an achievement called "that took serious planning" where you have to replay the story on each of the outside crew's Birthday, and then play the story one last time on its hardest difficulty while the character's name is one of your names.
What about the Vidmaster Achievements for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST? The Annual, Endure, and Deja Vu challenges were time consuming and offered 0 incentive unless you completed all 7, had a Bungie.net account synced to Xbox LIVE, and therefore redeemed your sweet Recon Armor Set. BUT! as a lovely slap in the face, toward the end of Halo 3's lifeline, everyone was granted the armor set anyways.

I appreciate Outside XBox knowing their audience well. Number 3, the Mortal Kombat Entry, almost all the clips involved some of the sexy Wahmen bouncing around~ Sonya Blade, Mileena, and Sindel~ And then a little bit of Raiden right at the end~

Triple Elite in Elite Dangerous. Just spend a thousand hours killing about 10,000 enemies, making a billion credits in trade and exploring basically everything, ever. It's probably easier to become an actual astronaut.
Don't forget 'Strength in Numbers' from Left 4 Dead 2, since you have to form a full team and play and win a full match in versus/scavenge mode. Where you have to do it via the team mode, and you're only allowed to bring in 3 friends for your team, and not say 8 friends, one team intentionally loses so the other can get the achievement and then vise versa.
So you get your team of 4, enter matchmaking with another team of four and it'll either be a team of clanners that are way more skilled than you are and will completely destroy your team in seconds, or it's a bunch of randomers that will get trounced, and then rage-quit. (Which if all four of the enemy team leave the lobby, the game ends, nobody wins, and no-one can join the game mid-match)
And to do a full game of scavenge or versus takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete, sometimes longer. And finally, good luck getting a match in nowadays with hardly anyone even playing the game anymore.
How about an unlockable (achievement if it was on Xbox) for Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. There is a conversation that is unlocked at the end but it requires a laundry list of things for you to do during the game. However it also includes, before doing anything else, for you to migrate a saved game data from its prequel Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance where the MC and Soren must have a 'A' rank bond. So literally you need two games (and multiple playthroughs due to other requirements) in order to unlock this short conversation which is literally just the two characters talking about the long journey its been.
AND the Path of Radiance save can't be on easy difficulty or it crashes the Wii....seriously, I couldn't use my save data because of that bs...

How about Dark Souls "Get every other achievement"-achievement, which takes you 3 times at least to play through, because you have to do every quest, collect every spell and so on, and you cant get anything in a single playthrough

Well, you only have NG+ in DS1 for 2 things, and if im not mistaken both things can be gained if you are given 2 copies of lord gwyn's soul by other players. The two things you need being his sword (craft it at giant blacksmith) and sunlight spear from the warriors of sun covenant. There isn't anything else that can't be gained in NG1 to my knowledge, but the other games can't be cheated out by someone giving you all the items where as DS1 can be. (i do have the dark soul in DS1 and DS2, so i do know what im on about.)
@@randomshmuck4724 in ds 1, you also need both forms of the sword of artorias and the greatshield, which is only granted via the soul of Sif, so you need around 2.5 playthroughs, for the equipment one, if you went for the cheevo/trophy on one character

@@lwarmaniacl8668 I was bet by my friend, because I got all achievements on xbox, that I couldn't platinum it in a day. 22 hours later and he owed me a drink. That required some meticulous planning. Grinding for the Channelers Trident took me an hour and a half of that time.
I'm surprised that the Solace achievement wasn't on here. The Delicate Flower quest required a carefully thought out routine and strategy or else, BOOM one hit and your right back at square one!

You need to grind about a hundred encounters in almost every section of the game, about 60% of which are missable. It took me 3x 100% playthroughs, multiple online guides, and several spreadsheets to complete. It requires grinding encounters for enemies which are not in the bestiary, getting alternate encounters for enemies where only 1 specific encounter unlocks the enemy (other encounters have the enemy but don't unlock the rage), save/loading when you fail to get a specific encounter in 1-chance-only random situations, and save/loading when you fail to get all possible random encounters in long scripted sequences.
Lets not forget "Gunslinger" from Call of Duty: World at War. If you didn't know about the glitch to hop out of the map, you had to really plan when to take the shot

My Wife did Insane in the Membrane for World Of Warcraft, This involved grinding your way to exalted reputation with 6 factions and honoured with another 2 (not all at the same time), many of the factions being enemies of each other so raising your reputation with one lowers your reputation with another, and sometimes the grind involves mining for gems or picking hundreds of flowers that can be made into a book and then trading in hundreds of books for rep, a truly earned title but just after she got the title they made it somewhat easier.

Decided I wanted to try out the cool new Laser sword I earned for Day 5. Didnt pay attention to my health and bumped into Carlito with the Sniper. Tried to take him down with the Laser sword SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! It didnt end well for me LOL

Outlast 2's messiah achievement. For this achievement, you have to finish the game on insane mode without reloading the camera. Remember this is the same game that's so dark not even night vision can penetrate the darkness, a camera that has the worst battery life, and has enemies that can see you practically see you through walls. Hiding barely helps meaning you'll need to run away from everything.
The achievement in Nier for growing a Lunar Tear flower. You have to do some quests in the early game to get a place to plant seeds, then do several real time weeks of planting alternating colors of seeds to crossbreed the flowers into new colors until you get a pure white flower. The fact that you can crossbreed the flowers is not mentioned anywhere in the game.
They get paid in fruit, no wonder the smell-o-vision feature is so horrid on these videos. Tangerine and body odor are not a great combination.
Well, the Tangerine and Body Odor is simply covering up the blood of the dying and suffering in the dungeon behind the bookcase in Jane's office. :p

I'll never forgot 7 Day Survivor in Dead Rising 1. That took some really annoying planning because it was a 14 hour run made during the time the RROD was rampant. Leaving your 360 on that long is killer

honestly, i know its an indie game and so probably flies a little under the radar, but omori's 'universally loved' achievement takes so much fucking planning. You have to keep track of pretty much all things you can do in town, and if you mess anything up on one day youre locked out.
I actually didn't plan for the "Iron Bladder" achievement, I just had a lot of time to kill. Luckily I didn't have to go to the bathroom once, but my knuckles and forearms were killing me by the end of it.

You forgot Dead Space 2's achievement for completing the game on the Hardest Difficulty which only allowed you 3 saves over what was a 10-12 hour campaign
And the GRAW top of the global leader boards achievements which required you to get to the top of the Solo, Team, and Universall Leaderboards.
And any Skull collecting related Achievement in Halo 3 and Halo CE Anniversary edition. Given the crazy shit you had to do to get some of them.
How about the trophy "And They'll Tell Two Friends" from Borderlands? It requires you to play an online match with someone from Gearbox or someone already with the trophy. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I kept playing online matches with really unhelpful teammates and not once did this pop.

Me and some friends beat the bladder of steel achievement twice on one day. We logged on two accounts, one on drums, one on guitar, then we had four people switch out every 5 songs, when we beat it, we logged in the other two accounts and did the same thing again.
Jane's incredulous giggle at Condiment King reminds me of that time that StarKid wrote a candy themed villain for their parody musical Holy Musical B@tman called Sweet Tooth. They figured he was so ridiculous even by Batman standards that he couldn't possibly exist, only to find out that a Batman villain with that exact name and theme had already appeared in a Batman cartoon in the seventies. Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway had a few of these... Off the top of my head, there was one where you had to play the game 7 days in a row while online, one where you had to play the game once a week for 3 months while online, one where you had to play the game EVERY SINGLE DAY for ONE HUNDRED DAYS while online, and one where you had to play the game on the 17th of September while online...
