How to STOP Euro Leaders from sticking to the rod

  • Fishing with thin (micro) euro leaders have fantastic benefits. But just like a lot of things, there are pros and cons. The con is fishing in the rain or any wet conditions.
    The solution to fix this problem is a 5 min process. Spiral 1x or 2x tippet down your rod from the tip to the base. (1/4 to 1/2 in apart). You can either tie off on the hook keeper or use self bonding/fusing tape to hold it. The "ridges" formed by the tippet will prevent the leader from sticking to the blank. When you don't need it anymore, you can simply take everything off and dispose of it.
    Hope this video helps!
    Cory
    Materials:
    1x or 2x
    Self fusing/bonding tape.

    **UPDATE** you can replace the plumbers tape with rubber O-rings. Leave them on your rod at the base. Just slip the mono under the O-ring and tie a couple of over hand knots. It will not slip out.

    Cory, I got all the components for the leader and was able to test it out this past weekend, I really liked it!! Best Iv tried so far. I didn’t get the sitter material yet but plan too, the cortland I use I don’t like too much memory!! The micro system works great it does have a few drawbacks but I need to work around it I guess.
    So thanks so much!!!!

    Hi Cory; great material, videos and clear information on every one of your videos. Thank you! My question: Does the weight from the wrapped tippet, especially in larger diameters, affect/dampen the action or balance of the euro rod in any real way, esp as we move to lighter finely balanced rods with super sensitive tips? Thx

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  Рік тому

      Thanks so much, David! It doesn’t affect it at all. Don’t go above 1x though (2 or 3x works perfect)-there really is no need. But you will see that the rod feels and acts the same. Hope this helps and appreciate you watching. Tight lines!

    i tell u a way that will be i lil quicker,,i always keep a rubber O ring on my butt section around the rod blank so i hook my dropper fly to prevent it from flopping around and twisting..after u wrap the blank with mono i just slide that o ring to trap the mono under it...never has come loose as long as the o ring fits snuggly and then u totally eliminate the extra time having to put tape on the rod..tite lines..

      Hey Damon, If you are going to two pieces, I would go ahead and wrap at least 3 sections. It will be frustrating if it starts sticking on that 3rd piece.

    Somebody want to see line stick to the rod in wet conditions? Try Stren Magnathin in 2 lb. test. It's hair.

      Little note to anyone... if you (any reader) come across some Stren Magnathin in 2 lb test, let me know, please. Lately, I haven't been able to find it. I haven't looked for it in quite some time because I had a lot of it but I could use some now again. There seems to be plenty of 4 lb test but the 2 lb may be history... maybe. Good luck fishing, folks.

    Do you have any tips for stopping tip wrap with micro leaders?

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  4 місяці тому

      Tip wrap is caused by rushing your cast. You are becoming “disconnected” with your bugs. You have to S-L-O-W down and wait for your backcast to unfold fully before you start your forward cast.
      Hope this helps.

      Kuku, I have actually found a better way now. I recommend getting a Rubber O Ring assortment kit (they are made for faucets) You can get them on Amazon for like 8 bucks. You will get a bunch of different sizes. Find the size that fits on the bottom of your rod. I put 2 of them on and they always stay there. I'll just spin the mono down then slip it under both of the O rings, then tie some overhand knots. It will not pull out and is super easy. Hope this helps.
